Keystore used by the web start

Dear friends,
the keystore used by web start is the same used by the IExplorer?
i.e., if I import a certificate in te browser, it is also valid to my web start applications ?

No, these are two seperate keystores.
However, if using 1.5.0 or later on windows, you can see a checkbox in the Security section of the advanced tab
"Use certificates and keys from the browser keystore"
this (on by default) will allow you to import a certificate only into you browser, and not have to import it again using the control panel.
(This may only work with IE, I'm not sure)

Capturing audio using jmf from web start

Hi everybody,
Currently im working on a project related with audio capturing in client side. Clients will access the application from web start. jmf will be used to capture audio. Additionally, i dont want users to install jmf.
At first, for testing purposes i wrote a small and simple program that only captures audio and plays it again. It works fine as a standalone application. However, it did not work if i deploy the same program on the web start, doing all required configurations carefully for web start deployment.
I found the problem is that required capture devices could not be detected when the program is run from web start.
I searched forums and internet and made some trials to solve and idendify the problem. i want to share you the results:
At first , i installed jmf to my machine, some jars (jmf.jar, sound.jar,...) and a jmf.properties file are extracted to a directory in my machine. Then, after copying jmf.jar and jmf.properties file to some folder, i uninstalled jmf. Then i created a simple project for testing purposes that captures audio and plays it back.i created this project from eclipse IDE and and set its classbath to the folder which contains only jmf.jar and jmf.properties. It runs successfully. However, if i remove jmf.properties from this file, project does not run, no device can be found. I strongly think, this means that, this jmf.properties file is necessary to detect any audio capture device and hence to run any jmf program that captures auido.
If i deployed the same project from web start, it did not work as i mentioned, since no audio device can be found because of the lack of jmf.properties file. However, if i install jmf again, since the jmf.properties is created, the project runs from web start too. The interesting thing is that, if i uninstall jmf
but only create the directory that only contains jmf.properties again, project still runs from web start. If i remove this file from that directory projects does not run again.
It seems that, this jmf.properties file is impornt for detecting audio capturer devices. It is created in the phase of jmf installation by jmfregistry or jmfinit and is unique for the machine.
Finally, i conclude that in order to run any project that captures auido from web start without installing jmf, a jmf.properties file should be created for each client machine automatically (in a silent way) before execution which means that jmfregistry or jmfinit should be run silently before execution to create this jmf.properties. Is there anybody that knows antying to achieve this ?
Any suggestions about the topic rather than the answer to the specific question above will also be appreciated greatly. Thanks a lot in advance.

I'm trying to take a 16 minute mini dv video and compress it for use on the web. I'm interested in any suggestions you may have on settings for the video and audio tracks. I've tried using Sorenson 3 (15 frames, key frames set to automatic, 320 x 240) for video and IMA 4:1 (mono) for audio. The resulting video looked great but the file size came in at about 255 Mb.

Thank you for the replies. Everyone was correct about the jack, interface, and phasing problems. I have been unplugging my motu audio interface and then using headphones at work. I have not changed any detailed audio output settings in logic. When I read that the jack might be a problem I tried switching headphones. This actually helped. I am using dre-beats headphones and they seem to be having issues with the mac/jack-(the phasing/panning problems. I can use these headphones with other devices but not the mac. I have to use ipod ear buds and the phasing seems fixed. Hopefully this information is helpful to someone else.
If anyone knows how to correct this issue please let me know its difficult to know what my final mixes are going to sound like and I have had to keep bouncing everything into i-tunes- sync to ipod and then listen in my car radio.

I am using the Kurzweil 3000 software and before I can use Read the Web, KESIReader Firefox extension must be installed. This is not compatible with Firefox 5, how can I make your extension to work with my software?

I use the kurzweil 300 software and before I can use Read the Web I must first install the KESIReader.xpi Foxfire extension into Mozilla Foxfire however, the extension is not compatible with Mozilla Foxfire 5 which is the version installed on my computer. What can be done to make this work with Kurzweil 3000 software and the Read the Web tool?

Best way to copy total start up HD to a new HD to be used as the new start up disc

Have installed two new internal 2 TB HD's. I wish to copy the entire contents of the CURRENT (older) start up HD to one of these new HD's and then use that as the new start up HD. What is the best way to copy the entire start up disk so that it can be used as the new start up disk (hard drive)?

Structure inDesign document and export as XML for use in the web

Hello everyone,
I just recently started using inDesign and I am fascinated by its possibilities! I use it for a project where a finished inDesign layout that is used for a printed publication is now supposed to be transformed for implementing it on a web site. My job is to export the inDesign document as an XML file. After massive reading the last weeks I'm quite familiar with the structuring and tagging in inDesign. Though there's some issues I do not understand. Your precious advice would be of highest meaning to me
The programmer who will later use my XML output for the web-transformation needs the document structured in different levels like "Root > Chapter > Subchapter > Text passage / table". I already structured the document with tags like title, text passage, table, infobox,... but the structure is just linear, putting one item following to another.
How can I structure the document with reoccuring tags that enable me to identify the exact position of an item in the document's structure? So that I can say for example "text passage X" is located in chapter 4, subchapter 1. This has to be done because the document is supposed to be updated later on. So maybe a chapter gets modified and has to be replaced, but this replacement is supposed to be displayed.
I hope my problem becomes clear! That's my biggest issue for now. So for any help I'd be very thankful!

Our print publications are created in InDesign CS5 for Mac then the text is exported to RTF files then sent to an outside company to be converted to our XML specifications for use by our website developers. I would like to create a workflow in which our XML tags are included in the InDesign layouts and then export the XML from the layouts.
Some more detail about what kind of formatting is necessary might be helpful.
I know that IDML files contain the entire layout in XML format. Is it a good idea to extract what we need from IDML, using the already-assigned tags?
Well, if you want to export the whole document, it's the only reasonable approach.
We use a workflow system such that each story is a seperate InCopy document, stored in ICML format (Basically a subset of IDML). Our web automation uses XSLT to convert each story into HTML for use on our web site; it also matches it up with external metadata so it knows what is a headline and what is not, etc.. It is not exactly hassle free, and every once in a while someone uses a new InDesign feature that breaks things (e.g., our XSLT has no support for paragraph numbering, so numbered paragraphs show up without their numbers).
You could do the same thing with with IDML, you'd just have to pick out each story, but that's small potatoes compared to all the XSL work you're going to have to do.
On the other hand, there may be better approaches if you're not going to export the whole document. For instance, you could use scripting to export each story as an RTF file, and then you could convert the RTF files into HTML using other tools.

"Invalid Keystore Format" with Java Web Start

I got a user with a "invalid keystore format" problem He's running Windows XP and it happens when our java webstart application is starting up. He had a mix of java 5 and java 6.
We uninstalled all his javas and deleted his c:\program files\java\jre6\lib\security\cacerts file as suggest by my company's support people and reinstalled java 6 U 22 and he still has the problem.
The other users don't have a problem.
How do we get our java web start application on work for him? It a java application and not a java applet.
He got a new Dell laptop a couple of months ago and it has never worked for him. That model of laptop works for other users.

the jar containing the native lib (win32com.dll) needed to be under the <nativelib> tag in the jnlp rather than <jar> .. duh!
fixing that solved the problem :)

With 4.0, there is no longer a way to do this using just the .NET SDK because the ReportEngine SDK no longer exists for .NET. Instead, you'll have to look at using the RESTful Web Services SDK for Webi which runs in the Web Application Container Server on your report server (NOT on the web server!)
RESTful web services are platform-independent and don't require the installation of any SDK files. Everything is done through standard HTTP Get, Put, and Post commands and the results are returned in either XML or JSON format. You don't mention which service pack of 4.0 you're on, but the RESTful web services have evolved over the course of the 4.0 service packs, so more recent is definitely better.
You can find the documentation for this in the "Development Information" section at help.sap.com/bobip40. There is also a "space" on SCN for this at http://scn.sap.com/community/restful-sdk and there are some links on this page for various resources and sample code.

What is the best video format to export to for use on the web?

I am looking for a quick anawer. What is the best format and size setting to use to export a video for use on a web page (I am using DreamWeaver to develop my web site and FCX to creat the movie). I like the size and quality of the opening video on the Apple home page if anyone knows what that is.

Use the http streamimg preset so the movie will be compatible with a range of different devices.

While using word, the computer started quickly deleting content line by line. What caused it?

What would cause my MacBookPro to start deleting text letter by letter, line by line while in Word? I couldn't use the cursor to stop the deletions.

I can imagine three scenarios.
If using an external mouse, one of the buttons could be stuck.
If using the internal trackpad, is it clicking properly (can also get stuck in a down position)?
Finally, you may have triggered a Sticky Key if you have that feature enabled in System Preferences / Universal Access / Keyboard.

Hiding the web start security popup

Dear friends,
a simple question: if I sign my WS app with a comercial ceriticate from Verysign, it will eliminate that popup alerting the user about security tips ?
i.e., I don�t want the system ask the user about the certificate.. the same behaviour as the browser facing a Verisign ceritifed web site

No, Even with purchased valid certificate user must be asked if they want to grant trust your app.
Verisign can only gaurentee who you are, not if you are testworthy.

Why has my use of the apostrophe started inserting a string of weird characters on my iPad?

My iPad has recently started replacing the apostrophe with a string of weird characters (something like &39; or similar) when I post a comment on Facebook or YouTube. Why is it, and how do I get rid of it? Anybody know?
(The apostrophe appears as normal when I'm still typing; it's only when I send / transmit the the post that it appears.)

I have been using site at different times from different accounts, and I have used autologin thing.
But when last time I opened the site, for some reason Mozilla automaticly logged in with my very old account.
For some reason in Security -> Passwords - I see only 1 "Login" detail for this site.
Is there any possible way to see all Logins (login information) I have used on this site to log-in?
May be some file folder is recording them?

If a password is filled then that can only be done if the password is saved in the password manager.<br />
