Keystroke to shift focus to dock

Stupid question, I know, but what does the ^ mean in keystroke shortcut menu mean? Is it option? Thanks.

^ means the Control (ctrl) key is involved in the chord; it's one of the modifier keys: Caps Lock, Control (ctrl), Option (Alt), Function (fn) and Command.
You'll also sometimes encounter a control-key-based chord listed as Ctrl/F3, in the case of summoning the Dock.
Command/Tab is another useful chord. (The command key is the Apple or cloverleaf or (useless Apple trivia ahead) the Swedish symbol used to mark areas of interest to campers.)
For a look at the symbols used in menus and various documents, launch Finder, select Mac Help, and enter the incantation "Symbols for special keys" into the search box.
The Quicksilver package might be of some future and advanced interest here -- as Mac OS X packages go, Quicksilver is very difficult to describe, and it's also a very powerful way to deal with shortcuts and applications and data. For now and for the near future the special keys listing will be of interest -- and then something like Quicksilver, once you get the hang of the modifier keys and such.

    you can also redefine the textarea's TAB Key behaviour. The tutorial has a good example for that - better than i would be able to describe :-)

  • Shift focus to active tab?

    Hi,
    Is there a keyboard shortcut to shift focus to the active tab? I like to move between tabs using ctrlshiftarrow, but if the focus is on some element in the tab like a text box or button, the shortcut doesn't work. I usually have to click on the tab's title up top to get the focus in the right place so that I can move between tabs.

    HI,
    Try restarting your Mac and then do Command + Shift + < or >
    Just make sure you haven't clicked inside a text box.

  • Control-f3 : expose vs move focus to dock

    With the new(ish) keyboard layout control-f2 is expose show app windows. It used to be move focus to dock. How is move focus to dock handled now?

    I assume you mean Ctrl+F3?
    Use FnCtrlF3
    You can also go to System Preferences, Keyboard and select the Keyboard tab.
    And then check Use all F1, F2, etc. keys ... to get the old behaviour back.
    To access the new functions of the function keys use Fn_Function key.

  • Applescript to shift focus from sheet's pane to the table

    Cmd + Option + return shifts focus from the table to the sheet's pane. However, I haven't found a key that shifts focus back to the table. Therefore, I would appreciate an applescript that selects column A of the last row of the table, no matter which sheet has focus in the shift's pane.

  • Preview unresponsive to keystrokes, based on focus?

    Has anybody had a hard time flipping through PDF's in Preview in Snow Leopard? I feel like the arrow keys and opt-cmd-g ("go to page") are often rather temperamental compared to Leopard.
    Here's an example: I'm browsing the PDF at
    http://www.nap.edu/catalog/12812.html
    At startup, the sidebar is showing bookmarks. If I click on one, nothing happens (an error in the PDF?), but I've changed the focus to the sidebar. The arrow keys and "go to" keystroke are unresponsive (but cmd-f ("find") actually works just fine, and it changes the focus to the search bar). Even if I click back in the main document window, the arrow keys and "go to" remain unresponsive. But sometimes if I hit "tab" enough, and sometimes not, the focus returns to the main document, I think, and I can use my arrow keys.
    I recognize I'm being old-school by using the arrows or keystrokes instead of track pad swipes, but that's the way I do it! I'd rather not swipe 50 times to get to page 50!

    how can you explain that my connection succeed but my iView transaction can not ?
    i check up all my parameters and i don't find any problem

  • Stop alt from shifting focus to the menu?

    Hi,
    Every time I press Alt the focus shifts to the menu bar, just as it does with other windows programs.
    This means I have to escape the menu every time I zoom, which is time consuming and extremely irritating.
    Does anyone know how to stop this behaviour so indesign and photoshop remain focused on the main page rather than shifting to the menu bar?
    Windows vista running indesign through creative cloud and Photoshop elements 9 installed from disc.
    Also, will this problem persist when I upgrade to a new windows 7 machine in a couple of weeks?
    Many thanks in advance,
    Ally@Tartan Pixie

    Until Adobe wakes up:
    I tried creating my own fix, for those who still have this problem, this fix seems to work in Photoshop, Indesign and Illustrator:
    Download AutoHotkey for free.
    Add this to a new AutoHotkey script and then run it:
    Alt::
    KeyWait, Alt
    Send, {Alt}
    Send, {Alt Up}
    ;soundbeep, 500, 500
    return

  • Is there a keystroke that simultaneously opens all Docked windows?

    Being able to Dock all open windows with a single keystroke (Option-click yellow button) is very useful, but I don't know of a way to get all Docked windows back open again at one time.
    Is there a way?

  • Alt+ key combination shifts focus to menu

    Hi All,
    In 10g, we have mapped Alt+F1 for a user-defined action.
    However once the action is completed, the focus shifts to the menu.
    When we use another combination like Shift+Alt+F1, this does not happen.
    Any clues as to why the focus shifts to menu?
    Thanks in advance
    Rajesh.R

    That may be happening because you have the same key combination specified in your menu.
    Are you using the default Oracle Forms menu???

  • Shift focus to new tab opened in backing bean

    Hi,
    I have a tree whose nodes are displayed as command links. On click of these links I have corresponding method action in my backing bean that generates the URL which is opened as a new tab on the browser. Below is what my method looks like in the backing bean.
    FacesContext ctx = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    ExtendedRenderKitService erks =
    Service.getService(ctx.getRenderKit(), ExtendedRenderKitService.class);
    String url = "window.open('http://www.google.com', '_blank')";
    erks.addScript(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(), url);
    We are using IE7 and the problem is that the browser opens a new tab but doesn't shift the focus to the new tab. I added a simple af:goLink on my page with the targetFrame as"_blank" and it works fine. But its the script that I'm calling from my backing bean doesn't behave in the same way. We cannot ask the users to change their browser settings.
    Jdev 11.1.1.5.0.
    Thanks

    Thanks Frank,
    Since I'm generating this URL from the backing bean I did change the script in my backing bean to
    ExtendedRenderKitService erks = Service.getService(ctx.getRenderKit(), ExtendedRenderKitService.class);
    erks.addScript(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(), "window.open('http://www.google.com', '_blank').focus();");
    But that also didn't move the focus to the new tab. When I embed the same string in the javascript on the page(jspx) it works fine.

  • Catch keystrokes out of focus

    I'm new to event listeners and such. I was curious... is there a way to catch a key combination even when the program is out of focus?
    I've gotten the Robot class to "see" the cursor location even when I was browsing the web.
    My goal is to have an app that will launch a gui at the cursor's location when the user hits "Ctrl + Shift + [Space]", even if the user is in, say, an FPS! :P
    thx in advance for your help! :D

  • Keyboard shortcut for shifting focus to the version name?

    i'm trying to go through and quickly give each pic a version name, is there a quick way to jump from the pic to the info palette where the version name is? can't seem to find a keyboard shortcut for that.
    thanks!

    Hello, jake
    Quote: "i'm trying to go through and quickly give each pic a version name, is there a quick way to jump from the pic to the info palette where the version name is? can't seem to find a keyboard shortcut for that.
    So that it highlights Version Name in the input field in the Metadata Panel?
    I don't know of any that would move to the next photograph and at the same time highlight the Version Name field.
    Command Option m
    will get you to the Management Layout
    Hit w to close the Projects Panel and then hit i to open the Inspectors. From this layout you can use the arrows to manuever through the photographs in the Browser but you will still need to select the Version Name input field to add metadata.
    Should you have a ton of images you can use j k l (up, stop, down) to scroll through them. You can also use a ShuttlePro v.2 and modify the keys on it to make keyboard shortcuts for Aperture.

  • Focus Travel in the JInternalFrames (ctrl+tab and ctrl+shift+tab)

    hi ,
    i have a JFrame inside which i have a JInternalFrame.
    in this JInternalframe I have 4 JPanels when I click ctrl-tab from a JFrame the focus should go to
    next panel'sand similar for other panels vice-verse ctrl-shift-tab .
    how to achieve this .
    looking for help.
    Thanks in Advance

    According to my [Key Bindings|http://www.camick.com/java/blog.html?name=key-bindings] program those keys are already mapped to the next/previous frame Action.
    However, the problem seems to be that the KeyboardFocusManager is intercepting the KeyStroke so you need to remove those KeyStrokes from the focus traversal set. I don't know how to do that, but you can create a new set:
    Set set = new HashSet();
    set.add( KeyStroke.getKeyStroke( "TAB" ) );
    frame.setFocusTraversalKeys( KeyboardFocusManager.FORWARD_TRAVERSAL_KEYS, set );You will need to use similiar code for the backward traversal keys.

  • Suppress focus handling by JTable while editor os active

    I've a cell editor which supports auto-complete on ctrl-space. It is a JTextField with a child panel opened to allow selection between multiple choices.
    It works fine under Unix. But under Windows the key event will somehow start to shift focus away from the editor.
    I haven't found a way to track down who is actually triggering the focus movement.
    For this special key event it should be sufficient to let only the editor and its child working on the focus and keyboard event. What is the right way to disable the other components and not get involved in this sequence?

    Try this code :
              InputMap im = table.getInputMap(WHEN_ANCESTOR_OF_FOCUSED_COMPONENT);
              im.put(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_SPACE, KeyEvent.CTRL_DOWN_MASK), "nothing_to_do");
              ActionMap am = table.getActionMap();
              am.put("nothing_to_do", new AbstractAction() {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
              });Tell me if it works.
