Keyword best solution? 6000+ photos

Hi,
I am working on a photo project involving over 6000 photos. When I am done I am going to hand the photos over to a group who will use them for many different purposes.
I want to be able to use the features of keywords, but I am hesitant to start going through all 6000 of them and labeling them if keywords won't stick with the actual photo.
I know that the keyword file is in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iPhoto.plist
and that could be transferred to the user (the next user to get these will be on a Mac), however I am a bit worried about having to fuss with resending/resetting that file everytime these pics are transferred (potentially to a lot of people).
My question is this: Is it worth it to go through and use keywords, or is there a better way to do this (possibly via meta data??)?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You can use iView MediaPro in its demo mode to catalog your iPhoto library (reached thru the iView MediaPro->Getting started menu option). It will read the keywords, comments, etc. assigned to those files in iPhoto. You can then select all of the thumbnails and go to the Action->Sync Annotations menu option to write those keywords back to the original files. They will then be available to other users with applications that can read the metadata.
If you're doing this a log you might consider iView as your image management application of choice. Great app.

Best Solution for Photo Galleries?

Best way to achieve this is to get a script (javascript, PHP)
that uses a specific folder to display the images inside that
folder to a webpage.
A Contribute user then can upload images using the 'Publish
file from my computer option' (>File>Publsh file from my
computer) to that folder and delete the images (given proper rights
in the admin section) by using the delete page option
(>File>Acions>Delete page) from that folder.

Best solution for showing photos on a HD TV?

I recently got a Sony HD TV with full 1080. I would like to be able to display my photos at the best resolution possible on it. What is the best way to do that? My computer is nowhere near the TV so I can't plug it in directly. I also am not interested in buying an Apple TV so I guess I'm looking at DVD. How do you get the best resolution using DVD's?

DVD's give you, at best, a resolution of something like 852x400. Given that 1080i resolution is 1920x1080, you can see that you are loosing a huge amount of detail. It will look OK but not nearly as impressive as it might.
Honestly the best solution is to hook your Mac up to the TV. You can look for DVI cables online that are very long (I think as long as 50ft). You'll also probably need a DVI to HDMI adaptor, depending on what your TV accepts. The only question is if a cable run that long will be able to hold the signal OK.
The AppleTV would be a good alternative, but be aware that it limits resolution to 720p - 1280x720, which is much better than a DVD but not quite as good as a full 1080i connection. You probably wouldn't notice the difference between that and 1080i as much as between DVD and 1080i. Another alternative is an older non-Intel Mac MINI, still able to display a picture at 1080i just fine.
In the future, the answer to this question will be to buy a Blu-Ray burner and produce a 1080i slideshow to disc just as you can do with DVD today. But burners are still rather expensive as are players, so a second Mac or Apple TV would probably be cheaper at this point...

Best solution for shared photo album?

I’ve haven’t dipped much into the Photo ecosystem of iOS (mainly because my original iPad never had a camera, I don’t have an iPhone, and on the laptop my workflow doesn’t rely on iPhoto).    As such, I’m not sure what the best solutions are for the following:
Some elderly family members will soon be getting an iPad. I’d like them to be able to, with mimimal clicks, open an app, open an album, and then see all the new/current photos that have been added to a shared album. Photos would be added to the album mainly by a few other people elsewhere (via email or the web).    Specifically, those people likely would be sending photos from either an iPad or an iPhone.
Are there any best ways to do this?    I don’t want it to involve Facebook.   It sounds like the Web Albums HD for Picasa app may be what I want to make use of on their side, but can people contribute to the album without having a picasa/google account? Are there downsides to that app?

If I understand you right then you want all users to have "read" access to all folders/files on your shared disk but "read" and "write" access to their own folders/files.
If this is the setup you are looking for then it is not possible with either an Airport Extreme disk or any of the LaCie Ethernet mini disks (NAS).
Basically what you can do it to have a shared folder where everybody has "read" access and then private folders for each user, where the specific user has "read" and "write" access.
I will suggest that you go to www.lacie.com and download a user manual for one of the NAS drives and you can here at the Apple site download the user guide for the Airport Extreme.

You appear to have two issues: 1) a hard drive that is not working properly and 2) files you wish to recover.
Re 1) you need to answer Kappy's questions.
Re 2) does the drive load and can you see your photo files? If so can you copy them to another drive?
Do you not have a backup of the photo files?

Pop Up Window - Dynamic Page - Need Best Solution

I'd like to create a pop-up window for my site. I've used behaviors in the past. I'm not sure if that's the best way now. Basiclly I have a photo gallery with thumbnails. Once you click the thumbnail I want a larger window to open with the image. I've seen the javascript windows used that use CSS lightbox, however I can't get it to work with my site. I guess I should mention I'm using:
ASP vbscript
SQL Database
Unit is set for repeating regions

ITunes optimizing 6000+ photos every sync

I'm running the current version of iTunes (although it happened under the previous version as well) on Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit edition, and each and every time I sync, iTunes wants to re-optimize and re-sync every one of my 6000+ photos.
Two iPhones get sync'ed with this machine, and both of them see this behavior, so I believe it's an iTunes issue.
Deleting the photo cache seems to fix the issue if I do a second sync immediately after the first re-optimization sweep, but it will still revert to this behaviour if I sync again the next day.
It seems like something is touching my photos, making iTunes believe that they're updated somehow, but I do not have any additional software installed that would do this beyond everything included with Vista Ultimate.
I'm a software developer by trade, so I've tried a lot of the obvious stuff.
This has only been a problem under Vista (which I really just thought I'd give a try) but I may need to go back to XP if there's no solution.
EDIT: I should add, that I'm not interested in the option I've seen for other people experiencing similar problems; Disabling photo sync until I have something new to upload. I take far too many photos to frequently for this to be an option.

Unforunately, I've both reset & restored from scratch. In fact my wife's iPhone turned out to be defecive (Hardware defect) so I had the chance to start from scratch with another brand new iPhone.
I'm really begining to think that Vista is 'touching' my files in some way, causing them to appear updated to iTunes. I can't see any evidence of this in terms of create/modify date, but I've noticed that if I sit through the whole conversion process, it won't do it again that day, but as soon as the next day iTunes will want me to re-optimize.

Almost certainly none of the above! Try each of the following in this order:
Select 'Reset Safari' from the Safari menu.
Close down Safari; move <home>/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db to the trash; restart Safari.
Change the DNS servers in your network settings to use the OpenDNS servers: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Turn off DNS pre-fetching by entering the following command in Terminal and restarting Safari:

The problem is I can only update the software on one of the three iPhones – the primary phone I used to setup the iTunes acct. What is the best solution to manage these devices for software updates, apps? This is probably a common problem with families wanting to share apps and music without realizing the issues created by this approach. As it stands today... the first (primary) iPhone associated with the iTune acct has been updated with the latest software version 5.1.1 and sync'd up with all the apps, music, etc from the one iTune acct, while the other two iPhones are still running on the original software version 4.0.2 and are experiencing problems now. I was advised by AT&T back in January that it would be necessary to setup separate iTunes accts for the second and third iPhones in order to receive system updates. The problem would be how to keep all the apps, etc from being deleted off the second and third phones that were originally loaded from the one iTunes acct. Since this AT&T advice was prior to iCloud coming out, would iCloud be a better solution or at least part of the solution? I really don't yet understand how iCloud works. SQL Server 2012 - Wat Is The Best Solution For Creating a Read Only Replicated/AlwaysOn Database

Hi there I was wondering if someone may have a best recommendation for the following requirement I have with regards setting up a third database server for reporting?
Current Setup
SQL Server 2012 Enterprise setup at two sites (Site A & Site B).
Configured to use AlwaysOn Availability groups for HA and DR.
Installed on Windows 2012 Servers.
This is all working and failover works fine and no issues. So…
Requirement
A third server needs to be added for the purpose of reporting, to be located on another site (Site C) possibly in another domain. This server needs to have a replicated read only copy of the live database from site A or Site B, whichever is in use. The Site
C reporting database should be as up-to-date to the Site A or Site B database as possible – preferably within a few seconds anyway….
Solution - What I believe are available to me
I believe I can use AlwaysOn and create a ReadOnly replica for the Site C. If so do I assume Site C needs to have the Enterprise version of SQL server i.e. to match Site A & Site B?
Using log shipping which if I am correct means the Site C does not need to be an Enterprise version.
Any help on the best solution for this would be greatly appreciated.

for always on - all nodes should be part of one windows cluster..if there site C is on different domain - I do not think it works.
Logshipping works --as long as the sql on site C is is same or higher version(sql 2012 or above). you can only do read only.
IMHo, if you can make site C in the same domain then, Always is better solution else log shipping
also, if your database has enterprise level features such as - partitonin, data compression -- you cannot restore the database on lower editions- so you need to have enterprise edition.

2 developeing an application wich will be manging everything ??? (a kind of programm with its own GUI)

Web applications are all the rage these days and IMO rightly so as they greatly reduce deployment cost and headaches.
They do have some drawbacks though which for you might be important.
I can imagine that sooner or later (probably sooner in my experience) a requirement to interface with hardware installed on the client machines will emerge.
Whether this is a barcode scanner or a chipcard reader to get client information from some form of card issued to the client, or maybe a label printer to print out labels for medication bottles doesn't matter, you need to access the client machine directly.
Web applications have great difficulty with that (in fact, it's all but impossible).
You could go for an applet solution but that's contrived at best and still leaves the same problems.
So in your situation an old-fashioned client/server application (maybe using web services to communicate with the serverside application) is likely the best longterm solution.
You'd have the database remote so everyone has access to the same data, being accessed through processes run on the server and called by the clients. These can also do most of the business logic, leaving the clients relatively dumb responsible mainly for data validation and entry and presentation of the results.

What is the best solution to create SharePoint Extranet Application for existing windows web application ?

At present my SharePoint farm is having following domains:
1) Internal Domain - Domain1
2) External Trusted Domain - Domain2
And Following Intranet WebApplications having Windows Mode Authentication:
1) http://mywebapp1.Domain1.com - Single site collection
2) http://mywebapp2.Domain1.com - Multiple site collections
3) http://mywebapp3.Domain1.com - Multiple site collections
Both Domain1 and Domain2 users are able to access above web applications.
Now , we have requirement to add other trusted domains Domain3 , Domain4...etc. and create Extranet Application and I have following questions :
What kind of topology and Authentication is required ?
AD as User Identity storage location is better way for all other domains since there is trust ?
Do I need to just extend all the web applications in extra net zone and create site collection for different domains to isolate security and content as per the need ?
Is there any other best solution to implement extranet application under current environment ?
what kind of other factors are important to consider in order to create extranet application ?
Your help will be highly appreciated.

I have following information till now:
External domain will be trusted with parent domain where SharePoint is installed.
Authentication of external domain will be Windows Authentication.
User Identity storage location will be Active Directory of external domain.
Site to be accessed by external domain will be http://mywebapp1.Domain1.com
Now question is :
Should I assign external AD group ( Domain2ADGroups ) to SP Web Application http://mywebapp1.Domain1.com
OR
Should I extend the application in extranet zone for external domain and then assign permission to extended
application ?
I guess , if authentication is same then no need to extend the application - correct ?
