Please excuse where I should use the word Tag or Keyword or vice versa!
1.       BUG?    If a tag synonym is added or changed then all affected photos should be marked for re-publish. I do not think this currently happens.   Should this possibly be considered a bug?
2.       BUG?    When viewing a smart collection in a Flickr publish service and a new tag is added to a photo it is correctly moved to the “requires re-publish” section.   However … the thumb selection in the grid moves to the next photo, the loop view remains on the photo just tagged and the key wording still reflects the just tagged photo.    The selection shown in the grid appears to be wrong.      When working quickly this can result in tagging errors as the user looking on the grid believes he is working on the next highlighted photo in the grid.      This is surely a bug?
3.       BUG?      A minor point and I realise this is probably not the correct way to do things … but a double word synonym entered with quotes for example “Ice Climbing” will create two tags “Ice” and “Climbing” at the flicker end of things.    Removal of this synonym and forcing a re-publish does not delete these two tags at the flicker end of things.    I may have miss-understood, but perhaps it is best for LR not to allow quoted tags?
4.       SUGGESTION      An easier and more powerful way to review tagging of current photos should be provided whereby it is possible to clearly see the current tagging of a photo and have immediate access to the keyword list at the same time to make corrections.    Having both the Keywording and Keyword List panels open in Library mode results in a lot of up and down scrolling for me and is a slightly inelegant UI in my opinion.   I would suggest it should at very least be possible to have the tags viewable in Loop info as an option - so long as no truncation is made and all tags visible.    Ideally a better way should be sought.
5.       SUGGESTION      It would be very useful when reviewing tagging to select to show all photos in the currently selected folder or set which do not contain the selected tag.    Note, I don’t think this can be easily achieved by using a keyword filter and selecting all keywords and unselecting the tag of interest as the pictures may have many tags.    The same might be performed by textual based searches but this is inelegant and its slowness precludes a browsing approach.     For example – for me it would be useful to look at all my mountain shots in a trip which have not been tagged with “Glacier” and it will be immediately visually apparent where I need to make tagging corrections.    I would suggest a “Not” checkbox is made available on the top of each column in the library filter – this may also provide a great deal of power for other situations.
6.       SUGGESTION      It would be useful to allow a means of showing all pictures with a certain tag but which have not been tagged yet with any children of said tag.   For example all pictures tagged with Glacier which I have not yet named the glacier by introducing a relevant child tag or selecting an existing child tag.    A similar situation occurs for wildlife and potentially many other scenarios … I would like to use a tag “Butterfly” which I can quickly use on my first pass… and then do the identification and child tagging on a second pass using appropriate filtering.   This allows for a step wise or “top down” approach to tag classifying things in a workflow.    I appreciate this can be achieved (as I do now) by using a child tag called “Unnamed butterfly” or “Unnamed Glacier” but it seems more powerful, elegant and generically applicable to be able to filter on a “not tagged with a child” basis.
I apologise if I have missed the point on some existing functionality on any of these points and welcome any suggestions.

I have two related keyword problems. Some keywords get "broadcast" to every photo in an event. It's almost impossible to delete these keywords from individual photos. I select the keyword, hit delete and it reappears after a few seconds.

I have two related problems with keywords in iphoto 11. Sometimes, keywords get magically "broadcast" to every photo in an event or album. It's difficult to delete these keywords. If I select one and try to delete it it vanishes. About half the time, it reappears again either in a couple of seconds or after I go to another photo and then return to the previous one. When thios happens, I need to delete the keyword two or more times before it actually vanishes. With several hundred photos in an event that all have a bad keyword, this is a tedious process. I've tried rebuilding the library once, but with only the first (I think) option checked on the rebuild.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

Terrible iPhoto 6 bug, and some clues..

Hi, everybody!
I still don't have a satisfactory answer to this problem, which has essentially shut down my ability to use iPhoto. It seems that a number of people have this same problem (based on postings here).
I shoot a bunch of digital photos, and import the as a roll into iPhoto. All similar shots with the same hardware. Some random percentage of them are not editable or viewable in a slideshow. Double clicking on the thumbnails (which all look fine), results in a blank screen in the edit view, but just for a few images in each imported roll. I have checked the permissions, changed the "open with" option, etc..
Some clues, maybe this means something to someone here:
1) When I drag an unopenable image to the desktop (by dragging the thumbnail), the desktop icon is a thumbnail of the image. When I drag an image that opens fine in iPhoto to the desktop, the icon is a generic jpeg file.
2) Both of these files open fine in photoshop, and when I re-import them to iPhoto, they then open without difficulty.
Any ideas? Have now installed both updates to iPhoto (6.0.2), but the problem persists...

I know that CMYK used to give iPhoto 5 problems along with grayscale photos. IPhoto needs to have the images in RGB for all photo printing and book orders.

Request for UI improvments and some more

Hello Raptor Development Team,
Your product is really good, but there are some obvious UI lacks and some possible improvements (sorry, if these lacks/improvements have been pointed before):
1. There shall be possibility to search a text of a function/procedure/package/... without switching into Edit mode.
2. In SQL*Worksheet by parse error no info is provided in which position in the statement - line, column - error has occurred (even SQL*Plus provides similar info). As far as I can remember it is limitation of error-processing of Oracle JDBC thin driver, but it can quite easily be overcome but re-parsing the same failed statement inside PL/SQL block by means of DBMS_SQL package which provides such info (and it is relatively cheap, as statement has anyway failed on parse).
3. In SQL*Worksheet it should be possible to obtain all properties of an object under cursor by means of hotkey/popup menu (likewise the functionality of F4 button in TOAD) and not only by separate "describe" command (which, anyway, provide quite limited info).
4. Navigation in the left explorer-like panel is quite cumbersome, especially when working with schemas with big amount of objects. It would be nice, if alternative interface (e.g. tabbed a-la TOAD) will be provided. The problem may be alleviated as well by providing in the left panel speedbars that allows to quickly switch between different connections and between DB object types (tables, views, procedures,...) in the same connection.
5. If named bind variable is used in SQL*Worksheet and single statement is executed the "Enter bind value:" dialog box is shown for each bind variable as many times as it occurs in the statement (with empty "Object Value" field and "Object type reset to Varchar2 each time). Looks strange and inconvenient as it provide no clue for which occurrence of the variable value is asked.
6. If the same statement with bind variable(s) is re-executed many times or several statements that refer to same bind variable are sequentially executed in "single-statement" mode that it would be really nice if values will be retained between executions and prompted in "Object Value" field of "Enter bind value:" dialog box.
7. The following PL/SQL block fails

1. Has been mentioned before - we do have a bug on it. To search across all your pl/sql, there is a report you can use.
2. We are working on improving errors but I can't make any promises.
3. We have heard this before but it won't be there for v1.0. You can use the Connections navigator to access the details of the objects that are accessible to you while you have a Worksheet open. You can even drag your Worksheet tab down to place it under the Connections details tab so you can see them both at the same time.
4. In a post-v1.0 release, we will be looking at additional, alternate navigation.
5. We have an open bug to not prompt you for the same bind more than once.
6. I will talk to the Worksheet developer about this one. Not sure we can remember the binds from execution to execution but it would be a great enhancement.
7. Not sure why this is failing - I will check into it.

Can't Delete Keywords. How Delete Keywords?

I can't delete keywords easily.    How can I delete keywords easily?
I found instructions that said to select the keyword.    But I have no way to select the keyword.   At least I haven't found the way.     In the Library, where the keywords are, I found no way to select them.   Clicking on them does no good.
I found I could uncheck keywords from the Keyword List, but that requires a lot of scrolling.    There must be a faster way.

Glad you got it sorted out. (I didn't mean to get into a controversy; sometimes there's just a bit of to-and-fro before the particular problem is identified)
The item "containing keywords" AFAIK relates to the ability to nest keywords inside each other. For example, say I have the keyword "France" and the keyword "Paris". Now I put just the keyword Paris onto an image, and then in the keyword list, drag Paris inside France so that it indents as a sub-keyword. This now means that when I search for images using the term "France", this image will start showing up - even though it does not explicitly have the keyword France - since it qualifies indirectly through its keyword Paris (which counts as being "a France keyword", due to being nested logically inside that). Also when exporting, you can opt to have LR award the France keyword explicitly in such a case (just for the exported copy). So: this option previews any such extra "parent" keywords which would get added, or which are additionally used for searches, due to nesting. If you un-nested the keywords tomorrow, that behaviour would stop. Of course, if you did explicitly add France as well as Paris, then nested or not nested, would make no practical difference.
The item "Will Export" AFAIK relates to the ability to conceal particular keywords from exporting - by clearing a checkbox in the keyword properties. These operate internally as normal, only when exported, they get left out. Perhaps they are purely there for organisational or workflow reasons - or some kind of a private flag or rating which is never intended for public consumption. This option previews the omission of those keywords, which would happen if you exported - I guess, allowing a check that nothing will be included that you don't want to be.
Both these options are rather specialised; it is far more normal AFAICT, to just leave this set to "Enter Keywords".

Keyword parenthesis when using Keyword Controls

I am learning about keywords using the Keyword Controls and Keyword Presets, but sometimes when I bring keywords to the middle column, it includes the folder name in parenthesis after each tag. Is this something I should ignore? (It seems to only happen for the default Aperture keywords.) I'm not sure why it is there to begin with.
Also, is it possible to get assigned keywords to export and then translate as "tags"?

No,better not!
The keywords with additional brackets are specialisations of the keywords categories in parenthesis - not parts of a folder.
You seem to have a problem with duplicate keywords; you can check by creating a Smart Album at the top level of your Library Albums, based on keywords; probably when you add a rule "keyword is" you will see a list like this:
Some keywords appear twice ore more often, and the duplicates have a second keyword added in parenthesis.
Typically this happens, if two conditions hold:
you import images that have keywords assigned,
and this keyword is already defined in your Aperture Library, but not at the top level of the hierarchie of keywords, e.g., you have a hierarchie of keywords Animal -> Bird -> Sparrow.
If you import an image labelled "Sparrow", Aperture will create a new keyword "Sparrow" at the toplevel of keywords, and all your older images will be labelled Sparrow (Bird). These two keyword versions -"Sparrow" and "Sparrow (Bird") - are distinct keywords, and you need to merge them.
To clean up duplicate keywords, use the "Keywords HUD". There you can enter any keyword that appear twice at different levels of the keyword hierarchy into to the search field and merge the keywords by dragging the toplevel versions to the lower levels of the keywords hierarchy. Post back, if you need further help on how to do that.
Some of the duplicate keywords in my example have been caused by importing from iPhoto. In this case Aperture appended (iPhoto) to iPhoto keywords, to distinguish them from the keywords already defined in Aperture. Also the predefined Aperture keywords are defined in a herarchichal keywords list; so if you import (or reimport) images with standard keywords, you will automatically create duplicate keywords.

Some Bugs and Enhancement Suggestions for Offline DB models

I really like the way that this area of JDeveloper is shaping up, but I have a couple of bugs and few suggestions for enhancements.
Bugs,
1) when adding an index to a table, you can't edit the index name. If the generated name is too long, it doesn't allow you to create the index.
2) When adding columns to an index, there is no LOV of columns so you have to manually type each one. It always defaults to the ?first column of the primary key? which seems odd.
A few enhancement suggestions:
1) on tables and columns it would be very helpful to be able to also have a logical name as well as a physical name
2) if we have a logical name, it would be then very helpful to be able to set the display properties to show the logical vs. physical table and column names
3) Tablespace objects. I would be okay if they were just the logical object (not necessarily generate DDL to create them). If I could use them as part of the table and index definitions.
4) Table partitioning.
5) Packages on a DB Diagram. Just for the documentation purpose of visually displaying all objects in an application.
6) Ability to create views based on synonyms. Currently, it only allows to pick a table or view.
Just a few items that I have encountered trying to design a full application in JDeveloper.

BUGS and FEATURES REQUESTED. Please add to it.

I've been using the z10 for the past couple weeks and wanted to start a thread of comprehensive Bugs and Features Requested.
I've labeled Bugs by letters (A,B,C...) and Features Requested by numbers (1, 2, 3...) so that others can add sequentially.
BUGS
(Not listed in any particular order)
(A.) Contact App adds current date as birthday. When I edit my contact, the current date gets listed as the birthday in local contact.
(B.) Duplicate telephone numbers listed. Telephone numbers show up twice in my Contacts (e.g.., if I have the contact's cell saved in (000) 123-4567 format and the person has the number listed in Facebook, I get a duplicate entry of +10001234567).
(C.) Telephone numbers and emails are not actionable in Web pages. In webpages, I can't click on telephone number to call (e.g., I look up a phone number for a restaurant). I should be able to easily call or copy into the Phone App or E-mail App.
(D.) Auto capitulation for words on the word substitution list is wrong. For example, when the word substitution contains more than one word. I have "ru" change to "are you" but if the first letter is capitalized (R) then both words become capitalized words (Are You). I used to have shortcuts like "mysig" to create email signatures with legal disclaimers but I can't do that now.
(E.) Backspace delete doesn't work consistently. The Shift+Delete function seems only to work after moving the cursor. This feature is the Alt+Del action to delete words after the cursor.
(F.) All Emoticons do not list. Emoticons do not all fit on the the two screens (lists) of emoticons. I.e., two columns are missing from view and can be seen when sliding (swiping) between the lists. Also, sometimes when I select an emoticon, it doesn't correspond with the picture of the one I intended. I believe this error is related. As a separate note, there should be a way to see the underlying symbols of the emoticon. (Often times, other people don't have BlackBerrys so I'd like to know what symbols would be sent--my prior 9800 would show the characters as i scrolled through them).
(G.) BlackBerry keyboard doesn't always work in input fields. E.g., certain Web pages. (I found a work around; two finger swipe up from the bottom makes the keyboard appear)
(H.) Sent messages stay unread. This seems to be an issue when an app sends an email (e.g., share article). The email with the sent indicator (checkmark) stays bold and I have listed 1 unread email. I can't mark as read/unread but if I delete the sent email, my unread message gets cleared.
(I.) Contact already added but I get the option to add instead of view contact. For some contacts, I get the option to add to contacts in the action menu cascade when that person is already in my address book. This bug is for emails and text messages.
(J.) Cannot call from text message. When I hold a text message and select call under the action menu cascade, the OS opens up the phone app but doesn't call.
(K.) Composing messages by name. When composting messages, the input must be by first, middle and last name. It should be, instead, by string and include nickname. E.g., if the person's name is "Andrew B. Cameron" I must type the name in as such. I can't type in "Andrew Cameron" or "Andy Cameron."
Features Requested and Suggestions for Improved User Experience
(In no particular order)
1)      Option to reply in different ways from the Call List. Be able to select a name in a call list and have options to call, text or email the person. The action menu allows calls to other numbers but I can't choose to text or email the contact instead. Sometimes, I missed a call and want to reply via text because I’m not able to talk. (Long hold on the Torch 9800 trackpad button brought up the action menu allowing me to call, text, view history, add to speed dial, e-mail, delete, etc.)
2)      Option to reply in different ways from the Hub. Related to above, when selecting an item in the hub, have the option to contact the sender or caller with multiple different ways.
3)      Only show number once in contacts application. Tap on the number to bring up the "action" cascade menu with options to call or text the number. Why is the same number listed twice (once to call and below again to text it)?
4)      Timestamps for individual text messages. I can't tell exact time on individual text message if it comes in near the time of another text. All messages are in one "bubble."
5)      Ability to select MMS or text for a message. Sometimes I write a text longer than 160 characters and I prefer it to be sent in one message (i.e., MMS mode) rather than being broken into one or more standard text messages. I had this ability with my 9800.
6)      Send button should be moved for text messages!!! Why the heck is it right underneath the delete button?!? Or next to the period button? I often times have accidentally hit send when composing text. It's very annoying and embarrassing. (Also, what happened to the ability to hit enter for a return carriage to next line?)
7)      Bigger magnifying glass. My finger is often over the area I need to place the cursor. I find it difficult and erratic to place the cursor.
8)      Select all option. Add the option to select all text in action menu cascade.
9)      E-mail recipients and message headers. Difficult to tell if you are one of many email recipients. Can we have a way to pull the email down to see the list of recipients rather than have to click to expand the header info? I know this request is a little picky, but that's how it was done in the previous BlackBerry OS which I preferred; it is easier and faster to pull the e-mail down and 'peek' to see which e-mail box received the message, message status, from and to fields. This change would be consistent with BB's flow/peek rather than click.
10)   Browser navigation. Hold down back arrow to get a list of recently visited websites similar to a desktop browser.
11)   Dark/Night mode. A night mode (maybe in the drop down menu) to change all the white and bright backgrounds to black or dark which would be helpful when reading/viewing things at night in bed/etc.
12)   Number of contacts. Ability to see how many contacts I have.
13)   What happened to groups or categories? I'd like to have back the ability to filter or see categories and also a way to contact everyone in a category. E.g., family or friends or coworkers, etc.
14)   Shutter sound mute. I was at a wedding and wanted to take pictures during the ceremony but the shutter would was too loud.
15)   East Asian Language Input. I bought my parents two Samsung Galaxy S3 phones over the weekend because they need Korean input (and the Kakao talk app). (BTW, S3 is a great phone but I prefer the Z10 after having the weekend to use the Android phones).
16)   Ability to freely place icons on the homesreen. Currently, icons are forced top left-right-to-bottom. I prefer to space my icons out.
17)   Add a contact to the homescreen. I'd like to place a shortcut (similar to a Webpage) to the homescreen for a contact which will open up the contact. Android allows this feature and so did my previous 9800.
18)   Search Contacts by nickname. The contacts app doesn't allow me to search by, e.g., Andy, even if I have that as my contact's nickname. The previous OS allowed this type of search which was very helpful.
Finally, as a note, I've been using the BlackBerry Z10 for the past 2 weeks and it's a great platform. I just bought two Samsung Galaxy S3 phones over the weekend for my parents so they could use the Korean language input and related features so I spent a lot of time with the Android platform, setting it up and teaching them how to use it. The S3 is a great phone too.
I prefer, however, the way BlackBerry has done their OS 10 and the integrated management of messages.
It's too bad that BB doesn't have Korean input and apps like Kakao Talk or I would have considered it for them.
The BlackBerry 10 is a great platform and I look forward to the continual improvements that will only make the experience better.

X6 Firmware Bugs and Suggestions after V30

I downloaded and installed V30 on my X6 8GB yesterday.
The changelog on Nokia's website is:
- Here and Now
- New version of Ovi Maps and Ovi Store
- Improved Browser
- Improved chat in Ovi Contacts
Despite it saying that Ovi Maps and Ovi Store have been updated, I still had to install their last version via Ovi Suite (Maps 3.4, not 3.6 Beta).
Same thing for Ovi Store, Ovi Music and Ovi Contacts. Only Here and Now has actually been updated. It's very strange, because a 3rd party app like Quickoffice has been updated, but not Nokia's own software.
Beside that, I found this update not so impressive: maybe the overall peformance was improved a bit, but since no other things have been updated, it cannot be considered a major update.
I'm not here to blame someone or to complain, but I feel like Nokia developers released this update just to provide something, and that it will be completed in some V31 version (with all the respect for their work, it's just an impression). If it's the case, I hope it will come in near future.
Now the bugs.
- I cannot say if the date bug has been corrected since I installed it only yesterday, but if it's still there, it's something to work on for next release
- WLAN keep connecting itself after using Ovi Store, even if I go to WLAN settings and disconnect it manually, if I stay for some seconds it connect again (I didn't try with browser so I don't know if it does the same)
- All the bugs listed here
And the suggestions...
- Obviously, improved performance in CPU, RAM management, Wi-Fi, touch experience and all the things stated here are required to support all new features
- A real update to the Nokia apps on the device, like Maps and Store, which now have to be installed via Ovi Suite also after the update
- The suggestions reported in the link above

Someone confirmed that the apps are not really updated as they should.
Ovi Suite found a new version also for him, and installed them even if the phone said that they were up-to-date.
Here and Now was detected, but when updating it stopped, maybe because it is really updated.
Anyway, there is a problem: if they are updated, Ovi Suite should not detect an update and, most important, should not rewrite them on the phone with their last version.
Ovi Store is not updated: when I opened it from the phone, it make me download and install the new version.
So they are not really updated or, in the Maps/Music/Contacts case, there is something wrong that make Ovi Suite install another new version.
Also the date incorrect bug is not solved, as confirmed by many others, though I haven't seen it yet.

LMS 3.0.1 / CM 5.0.2 / Questions on Campus (bug and feature)

I had two questions regarding Campus Manager [LMS 3.0.1 / CM 5.0.2].
1/ My customer is using a background image with the topology map (representing the country map where icons are placed on each city).
When closing the map and opening it again it has been reported me icons are not saved on their previous position and no longer reflects their cities.
After going through the forum it should be due to bug CSCse24944. In the bug details we see CM 4.0 is impacted but I do not see any next release where it is fixed in.
I wanted to confirm if CM 5.0.2 is affected ? And confirm also there is no workaround at this time ?
2/ I understand that without CDP, there will be no links between devices in the map. Due to security mesures CDP must be deactivated so we enter in the best practices deviations.
My question is : Do you think that asking to my Cisco representative for a feature request allowing to manually draw a link between icons would be too irrealistic, given the technical context and conditions of CM ?
I hope the questions are not strange...

1. Yes, that is the bug and there is no workaround other than not using a background image. It is not planned to be fixed in the current incarnation of Campus Manager.
2. This is a commonly requested feature and may very well happen at some point in the future. It would not hurt to have your account team build a business case to get this implemented.

Library Keyword Bug?

I am not sure if this is a bug, and if it is not, then I suppose this will be a feature request.
Background: I am using Lightroom 1.3.1 on a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz on OS X 10.5.1 with 4GB of RAM.
Expectation: When in the Library Module, I'd like to be able to select multiple files from the thumbnail bar at the bottom, type in applicable keywords and then save them to all of the ones selected regardless of whether my main screen is in fit mode or thumbnail mode.
Actual Experience: When the main screen is in fit mod and I save my keywords, they only save to the actual image being displayed in fit mode despite the fact that I have multiple images selected below in the thumbnail bar.

Searching in this forum defaults, unfortunately, to the thread you've just been perusing. Just check the other box.
BTW, if we were to vote on it, I'd go with the way it's set up currently. But then, for whatever reason, I hardly ever use the strip. Much prefer grid for multiple ops, and for me, I need to check just how many are selected, anyhow!

Filter by keyword bug?

Has anyone else noticed this bug in iMovie '09...
After adding some keywords try to use the 'Filter by Keyword' feature, you'll notice that it's impossible to turn the topmost green light on. In other words it's impossible to 'only show clips that are tagged with whatever happens to be the first keyword in the list'.
You can only 'omit' the topmost keyword from view (red light).
