Keyword Heirarchy - move/rearrange keywords

I would like to see a tool to make it easier to rearrange your keyword hierarchy.
*NOTE* This stems from the fact that importing from Elements jumbled my extensive set of keywords. The only way I see to move them around to the hierarchy I desire is by dragging the keyword.... waiting for the pane to scroll, and dropping it where it belongs... a time consuming and tedious process. But I could foresee this being useful for someone who starts off with a few keywords, and eventually as the list grows, sees the need to rearrange them into a logical hierarchy.
This tool would actually be pretty simple: You right click on a keyword, and get the option to "move keyword". This would bring up a tree of your keywords, and you choose where to place it. Done.
(This is very similar to how MS outlook works when you wish to move a folder in its Folder Pane under a different folder.)

Thanks again.  I upgraded from CS3 and deleted that version once CS5 was up and running.  I’m going to try to “export cache” today to see if that works.
To reiterate for anyone else who may read this discussion, all the information is there, somewhere, but the keywords are no longer organized in categories and the categories no longer show up in folders unless the keyword/category exists in the folder I am working with.  This makes it impossible to simply click and add keywords to files without recreating new categories/keywords for each of my folders.

Jim

  • Cannot move/rearrange apps on iphone 5s!!

Suddenly since yesterday I cannot move apps on my iphone 5S screen. After I press and hold the app, they wobble for 1-2 secs and I cannot move the apps.I am running the latest 7.0.4 on it. I can rearrange the icons on computer via itunes. I tried doing a hard reset. But dint work either.

    Hi aak244,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The first thing I would suggest is to quit all of the open apps on your iPhone:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
Then restart and/or reset your iPhone:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue persists, Reset All Settings on the iPhone.  This information can be found in the iPhone User Guide:
    Reset iPhone settings - iPhone
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph7a2a9399b
Reset iPhone settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset, then choose an option:
Reset All Settings: All your preferences and settings are reset.

  • Rearranging Photos in Book

I am creating a book on iPhoto 9.2.3 (Snow Leopard). I have not done so in a few years. In the past I thought I could move/rearrange photos from page to page when in “all pages.”  Like drag a photo on page 3 to a placement on page 12.  But in “all pages” all I can do is rearrange pages.  Is this possible, or am I thinking of the books I created on Shutterfly? The only way I can seem to move photos to different pages is to open page 3 and remove photo.  Then open page 12 and drag in the photo.  Is this the only way?  I like seeing all pages (the entire book) and rearranging photos from there.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the apple and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • Premiere Elements 12-Instant movie option

I just recently purchased Premiere Elements 12 so I am a newbie.  I like the effects in one of the instant movie options, specifically the news reel one.  However, I want to put the photos that I am using in a certain order, but the instant movie rearranges them.  Is there a way to make it use my order?  I also want to center a photo within the box on the part of the clip with the coffee mug and reel on a desk.  Is there a way to do that too?  Thanks in advance!

    dm
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12 running on? For now, I will assume Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
    1. For order of photos in News Reel Instant Movie, in setup,
    Top
no check mark next to AutoEdit
    dot next to Entire Movie
    check mark next to AutoAnalyzer
    no dot for selected clips
    Duration
    dot the Use All Clips
    2. To center a photo in the finished Instant Movie
Right click the finished Instant Movie on the Timeline, and select Break Apart Instant Movie.
That command will do just that. Once the Instant Movie is broken apart, then find the photos
on the Timeline and move and resize them carefully.
If you need further details, please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Project Window - unable to select clips and drag or rearrange

Call me dumb, but I've tried everything to get a clip to drag/move/rearrange within the project window.
I've worked with Mac now for 3 years and it's gotta be simple!!!!
    Deb

are you trying to move the clip or the thumbnail???. Be careful with this, the thumbnail displays by default 5 seconds of movie, but it is a continuous movie, although there are vertical bars. In order to move it you will have either to "split before selected clip", or copy and paste, etc., meaning editing.
You can change the length of the thumbnail, down to .5 sec and up to 30 sec. using the bar in the lower right.

  • Inputing dates in non-US date format

I know this is an old issue, but I could not find it resolved in the discussions and threads had been closed:
I cannot figure out how to input dates using my preferred format mm/dd/yy (or dd.mm.yy, or even dd.mm.yyyy) despite having set it up that way in system preferences>international (using Irish, UK, or whatever settings).
This occurs in Address Book where I try to input Birthdays (which I want included in iCal). It appears to want to make everything the current year and month (if dd>12 which makes it confused about dd or mm) or (if dd>=12) it assumes you are entering mm/dd/yy (contrary to my settings in System Preferences). The only way I have found around this problem is to write birthdays out in "long hand" (e.g. 31 May 1935)... Oddly if you give it something like 3/2/12 it will make it 2 March 2012 (rather than 3 February 1912 as intended). Which would be unlikely to say the least...
Definitely not the kind of problem I would expect from MacOS!
    MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

To customize the date (and any other format) to your particular preference, go to System Preferences; select International; select Formats. In the Dates section, select Customize. A pane will appear with Show:. From here you can select Short, Medium, Long or Full.
As an example, I use Medium for my Mail using the dd mm yy format. To make this display, you simply move (rearrange) each of the elements of the day/month/format to your particular choice. You can insert any divider between each of these elements (I use a space).
If you prefer the truncated Julian Date (yyD) format (for specific message/signals processing), simply delete the existing elements from the format line, and drag and drop a date element from the table below the element format line. For Julian Date, I selected Year and then Day of Year (without a space). I then modified the Year format by clicking on the Year element, which then displays a white chevron to right of the numeral. Click on the white chevron and several format options are available. Click your prefered option. Repeat the same process for Day of Year element.
When you are satisfied, click OK.

  • Polygonal lasso tool

    Hi Friends !
May be you could help me :
I wonder how to move the areas I've traced with the Polygonal Lasso Tool (traced while holding the shift key to add them) separately ?
Because when I'm using the move tool the whole block is moving...
Another question : If I deselect and realize I want to move / rearrange those again how do I do that ?
    Thank you !

I have to admit to not fully understanding your question, but making some assumptions here are my thoughts:
    1) If you have a selection (as indicated in your post) consisting of several separate areas and want to move only some of those areas then you can follow the advice given by Noel or Bill.  If you simply want to move or change  the entire collection of selected areas then click on Select>Transform selection and manipulate the selection using the bounding box presented to either move or reshape the selection.
    2) If you want to move or rearrange a selection after you deselected it, you must have previously saved that selection.  With your polygonal lasso tool active and your selections on screen right click. From the resulting drop down menu choose Save selection.  This will produce a new channel which you can name. After deselecting you can at any time in the future recreate the selection by opening the Channels panel, hold down the Ctrl key and click on the thumbnail in channel you created. Then return to the Layers panel to resume your editing.

  • Re: Dissappearing act

Hi, this is the first time I write for help.
I have the problem that my iPhoto (version 4.0.3) has no visible image. I deleted several images with Finder. Now, I know that this is not good. But, I tried the two options you listed (restart with the option key holded and deleting the config file), but it did not work in my case.
I tried to looking for the installation file of iPhoto (and then try to reistall it), but I did not find it.
Do you know what else I can try?
    regards

    Hello, a3poncho,
    Welcome to the discussions!
(Next time just post a new topic, don't tag on to a lengthy thread. You will probably get more help if it is a new post).
my iPhoto (version 4.0.3) has no visible image
Do you mean that you cannot find your iPhoto application icon in your Applications folder? Or, do you mean that iPhoto opens and you have no photos in it?
If you don't have the icon, you will need to reinstall iPhoto. You need your original disks, either the one you purchased as iLife 4, or the 'software restore' disk that came with your computer if iLife came installed on it.
If you have the iPhoto application, but when you open it no photos appear, close iPhoto and look in Pictures/iPhotoLibrary and see if your photos are still there. Don't open them, change, move, rearrange or rename them.
Now open iPhoto holding down the option key. When asked, click on 'Choose Library' and then when the locator window appears, click on your iPhotoLibrary. See if your photos return.
Post back here if this does not work for you.

  • Cannot arrange clips

First time posting here, since I could not find the answer in the manual (I usually use FCP but waiting for a Binary version - first time using iMovie HD)...
I imported a bunch of clips and they went straight into the timeline (bottom panel) when I thought they'd go into the Clip panel (right-side of interface).
I am now trying to move / rearrange the clips in the timeline but they are not budging. If I try to drag and drop them (even if I use cut and paste) the clip I select just vanishes...
    What should I do now?

The timeline at the bottom of the iMovie window has two modes: Clip View mode and Timeline View mode. Click one of the small icons above the left end of the timeline to pick one.
When arranging clips, it's usually best to use Clip View mode. It lets you select the clip(s) you want to move and drag them. Other clips move over to accept the clips.
When trimming clips or adjusting audio, use Timeline View mode.
Rearranging clips in Timeline View mode is possible too, but trickier, for most mouse actions there are for other kinds of editing. For iMovie to understand you want to move the clip, drag it up above the timeline, then left or right. As you drag other clips will move over.
While iMovie is quite simple to use once you see how it works, the user interface aren't particularly intuitive. Watching the iMovie on-line Tutorial helps discover how things work.
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/imovie/
If none of that helps, it may be that there's a more fundamental problem. iMovie requires that the disk the project resides on use the Mac OS Extended disk format. If it's not that format, iMovie can't save edits to disk, sometimes causing behaviors as you describe.

  • ITunes configuring each time it starts...

I noticed about a week ago that everytime I try to open iTunes, it "configures" and puts a new icon on the desktop before it will start.
Does anyone know how I can prevent it from doing this each time?
I'm using Windows XP Pro. Here is a screenshot of the dialog box:

I get this too if I move/rearrange the iTunes folder/icons in the start menu. Its really annoying since I like to keep my start menu organized on my terms.
This is on my XP computer at work. Sorry I wasn't helpful, but I'd love to know why this happens and how to stop it.

  • Bueqie-you captured my problem, how do I fix

From another post: <It is usually safer moving files between computers with the same version of iTunes!! This process works best when cloning exact versions of iTunes, your music files and the iTunes meta-data files. It is also important to note that there is a new naming convention for the iTunes .ITL database file when moving from version 4.8 to 4.9. The ITL file is upward compatible, but not downward compatible (4.8 will choke on a 4.9 ITL file)>
I think I inadvertantly upgraded the version on my new computer because the <iTunes Library.itl> is on my old computer and the new computer insists on <iTunes 4 Music Library.no extension>. The XML doc on the old computer is <iTunes Music Library.xml>, on the new computer it's iTunes Music Library.no extension>. Does not show a 4. I've tried 17 different ways to move rearrange the file structure getting it to look exactly like the old computer, but whenever I start iTunes, it creates the <iTunes 4 Music Library.no extension>.
    - None of my playlists show up
    - In the left Nav pain it will show my iPod with all of the proper contents
    - The library shows all of the songs, only because I manually <File / Add folder to Library - all of the songs on the dvd.
    - as mentioned above itunes sees the ipod, but the ipod itself is hopelessly locked with the "Do not disconnect" flashing.

Put the disk in the computer and restart while holding the C key down. You pretend you want to reinstall the OS and go through the first two steps, until the screen just after the language selectiion screen.
On this screen you will see a menu bar. Click Utilities in the menu bar, and select Disk Utility. When DU is up and running, do this:
In the list at the left, select your start up disk- the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
When the repair is completed, quit DU and restart the computer.

  • How to move files from external drive to main drive WITH keywords?

On a recent trip, I uploaded several thousand images onto an external hardrive that I was using with my laptop.I keyworded and edited these files while on the road.
Back home, I want to move the files (keywords and all) to my permanent LR library which resides on a different hard drive. How can I make this transfer without losing keywords?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Jessica,
There seems to be a confusion of terms here: the catalog is where LR stores all its information (what your referred to as LR's library in your original post).
While you were on the road, did you use LR to add keywords to the photos, or did you use some other tool? If you used LR, than you already have a catalog on the laptop, which you can then import into your main LR catalog (using the Import from Catalog option from the File menu). Let us know if you get stuck anywhere.

  • Keyword management - how do you move keywords up one level?

How do you move keywords up one level in the hierarchy? Sometimes when working quickly, keywords and subgroups of keywords get inadvertently highlighted and moved as a child under another keyword or group. I can't figure out how to move them back out again to the root level.

I can't figure out how to move them back out again to the root level.
You can drag and drop sub keywords to other locations higher or lower in the nested folder but you don't seem able to drag from sub level to root level.
The easiest workaround would be to have a regular Back up of the list (pop menu from icon top right keyword panel: export keywords) and when not having added new words just use clear and import the back up to restore.
If you did edit the list you can choose to export current list and with a simple text editor make the changes for keywords and sub keywords you want, save and then use again clear and import to retrieve the correct list.

Check, if you have the "Primary Only" option enabled. Then keywords will only be applied to the "Primary Image":
See:                  Keywords or ratings are applied only to one of the selected images - why?
Uncheck the little square button with the "1".

  • Bridge CS4 - I still can't move keywords for stock photos

    I'm on a Mac Pro, Leopard 10.5.8, 4G RAM.
I buy a lot of stock photos. The stock photo companies have thoughtfully assigned a bunch of keywords to the photos, sometimes in other languages that I don't really speak. Photos.com is notorious for applying keywords that have nothing to do with the photo, as evidenced my my searches for certain keywords. I wish they'd all stop doing this.
When these photos are opened, their keywords appear under "Other Keywords." I can make the keyword permanent under "Other Keywords," but I am unable to drag the keyword(s) into the main keyword list in an effort to GET RID OF this "Other Keywords" list.
I was hoping this was addressed in Bridge CS4, but of course it wasn't...UNLESS...
someone here knows how to do it?

YES Terence!  Thank you. Exporting allowed me to move my photos from iPhoto into the Burn Folder on my desktop.   But that doesn't explain why I'm having to go that route now.   Have I done something (accidentally changed some setting) on my computer that will not allow me to just click and drag anymore?   I really liked the convenience of the click and drag option.
I don't have the time tonight to export and burn a lot of CD/DVDs.  I'll try that tomorrow and make sure my photos are moving properly.  I also need to export photos to my external hard drive to make sure that route is working.
Wouldn't you know that my Apple Care Plan runs out this Wednesday?!  I need to make sure everything is working properly before that expires.
Thank you so much for your help.   I really, really appreciate it.
