Keyword Manager Supported under iPhoto 09?

Can someone confirm whether Keywords are still supported.? Also whether Keyword Manager is still available.
Thx

The keywords are still there. Keyword Manager will not launch in iPhoto '09 but the developer is working on an update. If KM is important to you, I'd just wait awhile before installing iPhoto '09 or at least check the forum on the developer's website, which has current information.

  • Keyword Manager is not compatible

Keyword Manager is not compatible with iPhoto '11. I accept that old software sometimes won't work with new programs. What I want to do is disable Keyword Manager so that I don't get a message each time iPhoto starts up. How do I remove/disable it?

Thanks for the hint on how to disable the plugin. I too encountered this Keyword Manager issue with every iPhoto updade. Until iPhoto 10, the developers of the Keyord Manager plugin, bullstorm.se, used to deliver fixes within short time. But this time I get the impression that the folks at Bullstorm aren't there any more. The Bullstorm forums are unavailable for quite a while "due to maintanance". And the FAQ remains frozen for weeks indicating:
    - Q: Will Keyword Manager work with iPhoto 9 (iLife '11)?
-- We are currently looking into that. We'll let you know.
So I think about removing the KM Plugin, even though I think it's the best and most useful plugin for iPhoto out there. It sould be implemented into the software right from Cupertino.

  • Keyword management in iPhoto

    Hi all,
I've been using iPhoto for years now and have been using the (now defunct) Keyword Manager to create hierarchical keywords for my photos.  For example, something like:
    Friends
    Smith Family
    John Smith
    Jane Smith
    Jones FamilyPete Jones
    Family
    In-Laws
    Sally White
    Mike Green
    Siblings
    Phil Black
    Penny Black
    WorkWendy Ng
The problem I have is that due to the Keyword Manager dependency, I am stuck on iPhoto '09 which means I am also stuck on OS X 10.7.x. I am sure that at some stage, I will either buy a new mac or upgrade the OS, so I am starting to look at options for a replacement photo manager (note that I am purely looking for a photo manager/catalog... not image editing!)
While I really like iPhoto, I am prepared to move away from it and I've no problems paying $100 or even more if it does the right job, but it must do the following:
Support hierarchical keywords like the above
Organise the folder hierarchy for me. I don't want to have to be fooling around with folders and files.
Catalog and manage both photos and video
Being able to import the following from my existing iPhoto library:   a) photos, b) album hierarchy, and c) keyword hierarchy from Keyword Manager.  I am a Mac/iOS developer, so I can certainly write scripts/plugins if required to facilitate this. This is very important as I have about 50,000 photos that I have arranged in approx 200 albums with about 200 keywords, so I don't want to have to rekey all that again
    I don't need:
Image editing. I am more than happy to use Acorn or Photoshop for that (I just need a way to launch into the image editor from the app)
RAW image support.  I'm just cataloging the family happy snaps.
Some initial investigation suggests that Pixa, Lyn or Aperture are likely candidates.  I'd appreciate any advice/guidance on whether those apps are useful and/or suit my requirements (and alternatively, if there are other photo management apps that I have missed).  Thanks a lot.
    Craig

Aperture supports the hierarchy, but in a slighty unusual way. In your case above, if you tag an image Pete Jones then searching on Jones Family or Friends will alos find it, but the keywords are not actually visible on the photo.
So, in my Aperture Library I have
    Europe
         France
         Paris
I tag a new photo with Paris and I can find it in a Europe, France or Paris search.
If you first upgrade to iPhoto 11 then purchase Aperture, then it will simply open the iPhoto Library - so migrating is a cinch.
And you can set Acorn or whatever as an external, though unless you're doing compositing you probably won't need them most of the time.
You can view the Aperture manual here

  • Keyword Manager in iPhoto

Since the sad demise of Bullstorm's Keyword Manager I have resisted upgrading to iPhoto11.
I have 100s of keywords and without Keyword Manager it's not possible to do a proper keyword search. When ask for a search it produces a windowlet with 4 columns and if you have too many keywords it simply scrolls off the top of the parent window and you can't scroll it back. I've confirmed in the local Apple store this behaviour is still the same in iPhoto11.
Keyword Manager solved this as well as adding loads of other features that should be there as standard anyway .. boolean searches, hierarchical keywords, sensible allocation of keywords to a group of photos etc.
I'm now getting a new iMac and iPhoto11 comes pre-installed. I believe I can de-install iPhoto 11 and install iPhoto9 but at some point it's going to stop working.
Does anyone know of an alternative to Keyword Manager?
    Is Aperture any better?
Is there a photo organiser out there that just does organising, I use Photoshop Elements and don't really want to learn a new editor. Oh and Elements Organizer 11 is poor and very restrictive. iPhoto would be great if it improved keyword handling and better support for RAW.
    Anyone got any views?
    Thanks
    Jack

I'm with you on Keyword Manager, and no there is no alternative or replacement.
The keyword handling in Aperture is better - nested keywords and so on. With a 3rd party app like Typinator you can add large numbers of keywords quite quickly, and you can also use drag and drop.
You can check out the Aperture manual here
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Aperture_User_Manual.pdf
Couple of added advantages: It's much more powerful than iPhoto and you can still use Elements in association with it, but you'll probably end up using it less.
There's a simple upgrade path from iPhoto to Aperture. Just open the iPhoto Library with the iPhoto 11 on your machine. This will update the library. Now Aperture can use that selfsame library.
Not sure what you mean by "better support for Raw"? Aperture supports the same cameras but with more fine control - in fact, iirc, there is better fine control on 11 than 9 too.
Not the solution for all ills, mind, and there is a learning curve, but Aperture is a good progression from iPhoto.

  • Keyword Manager in iPhoto '08

I purchased Keyword Manager a few weeks ago and installed it on my old Tiger laptop with iPhoto '06. It was working fine.
I just purchased a new MacBook, migrated my data over and now it's not showing up in Leopard and iPhoto '08.
I redownloaded the app and installed it (it said it was already installed so I uninstalled and reinstalled). It says it's reinstalled fine, but I'm still not seeing it in iPhoto '08. No menu or anything.
Does anyone have any ideas? I did post this in the Keyword Manager forums also.

Well, at least I know that Keyword Manager SHOULD work. I just haven't heard any response yet from their forums, but hopefully I will soon.
Since it comes as an installer, where could look to see if it's placing the appropriate files in the appropriate places?
I see a .plist and a backup folder in the Application Support>Keyword Manager folder.

  • Keywording: iPhoto Keyword Manager vs. Aperture

I'm wondering if anyone knows the relative merits of Bullstorm's Keyword Manager for iPhoto versus the keywording facilities available in Aperture (3.0, since it just got released).
I've loved Keyword Manager for its nested hierarcical keywords in iPhoto. I gather that Aperture has the same ability (better? worse?).
I have a large (many tens of thousands of files) community photo archiving and organizing project to set up and was going to use iPhoto plus Keyword Manager for embedding the IPTC metadata fields for keywords plus titles and comments.
But I'm beginning to think we could do with more extensive IPTC fields and support, and so considering Aperture. I'm wondering if the keywording is going to be more difficult without Keyword Manager.
    Any thoughts welcome.

but do you know offhand if Aperture will export all the keywords that have been applied hierarchically (with Groups?) for an image as embedded IPTC keyword data, therefore allowing all the keywords applied within Aperture to be readable by other systems and software on export?
Yes you can write the keywords to the IPTC data on export. That's an export setting in Aperture. However, as IPTC doesn't recognise hierarchies, it simply writes as a flat list.

  • Keyword Manager

    I have uninstalled Keyword Manager.
How can I get rid of:
    Beta expired
This beta of Keyword Manager has expired. Please visit www.bullstorm.se for an updated version.
It come up every time I open iPhoto.
I have already emailed Bullstorm but have not gotten response.

There is a fix, and it was posted on Bullstorm's site on Saturday. Simply download the newest version of SIMBL (which is how KM works). You will need to completely remove the old SIMBL, then install the new one. Then run the latest installer of KM. I had to restart iPhoto twice then it popped up about my registration details. After entering them, the Keywords menu item popped up.
If you did an upgrade, or have your Tiger backup still, your saved keywords are stored in ~/Library/Preferences & ~/Library/Application Support/Keyword Manager
I can tell you from experience, once you install the newer SIMBL, then run the KM installer, it works just as well as you are used to. I too was lost without KM.

  • Feature request: better keyword management tool

I'm re-organizing my keywords and I think that LR needs some work in keyword management and DAM features.
I miss something like separate keyword management tool which would have two keyword lists, which would work a bit like spatial file management in Os X finder.
Easily manage keyword hierarchy. For example: browse list and and be able to easily select keywords (now it's OK) and drag and drop them to under a new keyword (almost ok, but sometimes cumbersome, if one wants to move keyword which is/are at the bottom of the long keyword list to keyword which is at the top of the list).

Dang near impossible once you have a lot of keywords. A work-around for me has been to filter keywords first to reduce the number of keywords in the list, then do the drag 'n drop. At a minimum, a change to scroll the list when you're searching for a drop target at a variable rate that depends on mouse position, or even something simple like slowing it down when the alt key is pressed.
+1 vote - better keyword management.
Something else that may help you in the mean time: KeywordConsolidator.

  • How do I include keywords when I "share" iPhotos via MAIL?

How do I include keywords when I "share" iPhotos via MAIL?
When I send the images, it doesn't include the keywords, which I use as a description. But when I email them via "Share" in the menu bar - none of the keywords come through in the email. I looked for a preference or something that will allow sending keywords, but don't see anything like that.

    Hi Terence,
Thank you for your answer. My first thought was, "great - I've tried dragging them to my desktop, but the keywords do't 'drag' with the picture." So you're suggestion to 'export' and selectinh the appropriate boxes would solve the issue.
    But it doesn't seem to!
In iPhoto, under the photo I'm seeing the file number and the keywords under that. Good!
But when I export as yu've suggested . . . still NO keywords (which I use as a title). Now, to your credit, if I "Command + i" the jpg image, I will see the keywords . . . but I'm looking to see the keywords under the picture in the email - just like it looks in iPhoto?
Am I doing something wrong? Thanks very much.

  • No More Keyword Manager

Looks like Bullstorm has stopped work on the iPhoto plugin Keyword Manager.
Does anyone know of a similar plugin for iPhoto?
I think Apple should grab the App from Bullstorm and develop it as a feature in iPhoto.

I tagged some essential photos on my iPhoto 8.1.2 on my old MB and exported them to a folder,
How did you export them? To get the tags you would need to use
    File -> Export
In the resulting dialogue select Kind: Jpeg or Tiff
Then check the box at 'Titles and Keywords'

  • Problem with Keyword Manager after downgrade

I upgraded iPhoto 8 to 9, didn't like it, and reinstalled 8 from the Time Machine backup.
Now, every time I start iPhoto I get the same error with Keyword Manager that I got with the upgrade.
Before re-installing iPhoto 8 I deleted 9 with AppDelete, getting rid, I thought, of all the prefs, plists, etc. What did I miss?
I tried uninstalling KM and re-installing it but get that error again.

One for the Developers of Keyword Manager, I would have thought.

  • Konica Minolta Dimage A200 supported in iPhoto 5?

    Hi.
I am considering replacing my Canon IXUS v2 camera with the Konica Minolta Dimage A200. Primarily because it has a 7x optical zoom and 8MP resolution. But I can't find any info on whether the A200 is supported by iPhoto 5. I've checked Apple's iPhoto compatibility website and it's not listed (but the Konica Minolta Dimage A2 is!) and all I can find on Konica's website is that it's supported by Mac OS 10.1 - 10.3. 10.4 isn't mentioned and iPhoto isn't mentioned.
Anybody have any experience with the A200 and iPhoto? Alternatively, can anybody recommend an alternative camera that is fully supported on the Mac. My main requirements are: optical zoom (at least 7x), resolution (at least 5MP) and build quality.
    I have a G5 iMac running Mac OS 10.4.2 and iPhoto 5.0.4
    Thanks,
    Stuart

    Hi all,
I contacted Konica Minolta tech support and they confirmed that the A200 is supported under Tiger (10.4) and should also work with iPhoto. Here's the email I received:
"The camera will work on OS Tiger but we cannot comment on iPhoto as it is not one we have tested it on however we provide software called DiMAGE Viewer which will work with the camera. We have many customers using the camera with Tiger with no issues."
I then found the following Mac OS compatibility info on Konica's tech support site:
    http://www.konicaminoltaphotoworld.com/kmsupport.com/Compatibility.3036.0.html?& L=0#).
To summarise, Konica state that Mac OS 10.1 - 10.3 are fully supported and limited testing has shown that 10.4 works as well. There's no mention of iPhoto compatibility. The document also mentions possible file corruption for transfers over 10 mins and issues with date and time info not being transferred to the Mac. I thought these were a tad worrying so I sent a follow-up email to Konica tech support. Here's the reply I received:
"It should work fine with Iphoto. The information regarding MAC OS X.
There can be corruptions with transfers of over 10mins but not necessarily and therefore it is recommend to split transfers and also the data and time may not be transferred correctly and these I am afraid are issues which should be resolved when newer DiMAGE Software is released, however they might not occur at all and is only a precaution."
So... it's all a bit vague. Seems like it will definitely work with OS 10.4 but you might get some of the problems mentioned above... and then again you might not! Also, in the above reply, Konica mention that these issues should be fixed in a new version of their DiMAGE software. So maybe these issues don't occur if you just use iPhoto? Who knows....
I'm still trying to decide whether the A200 is the camera for me.
    Cheers,
    Stuart

  • Replacement for keyword manager

Has anyone found a plug in to replace Keyword Manager for iPhoto 9 and 11?  I don't want to upgrade to Lion until I have a replacement that will help me search for my library of 60,000 photos.
