Keyword on import and batch edit

I am having trouble loading keywords on batch edits and also on importing new files, the only way i can mange this so far is to maually type in keywords as opposed to picking from a selection from the keyword window hud which I would prefer?
Thanks

Kirby, I agree with all you say, but still I come to a different conclusion - forgive me
I think, our workflows differ because we have different tasks to solve. I have import presets for the data that are to be applied to all images of the film roll, and that regularly requires some keywords to be set to all images. These keywords describe  things not covered by the EXIF and IPTC, but still apply to all images. For the majority of the keywords holds what you are saying - they are individual to each image and I set them later.
For example, I regularly scan old slides. The NikonScan software assigns  "Nikon SUPER COOLSCAN 4000 ED" to the camera model, bt the images have been taken with other camera. So I like to set the the correct camera model in an import preset for each older camera I have used. And I prefer to store the camera data not in the text field - caption, etc, for these are volatile, I too ofen managed to erase them accidentally when batch chinging the title or comment information.
Other general keywords describe the kind of experiment or other circumstances when making the images.  All keywords describing the kind of scene and the subjects vary and will be applied while browsing the images.
What do you think?

  • Metadata changes and batch editing

Has anyone figured out how to batch edit the photos in your library or change the metadata? Everything is very organized by date and location and if this information is wrong from older photos it REALLY throws everything off. Any suggestions?

Re: can I no longer batch edit photo meta data?!in response to Nickholl
You can select several photos at once and add keywords, but not the same title to several photos at once.
You can copy the adjustments from one photo to all selected photos.
You can adjust the time of several selected photos at once.
    But that's it
It is one more reason to keep iPhoto ready to prepare photos before importing to photos.

  • What's the best way to resolve duplicate contacts and batch edit?

    Hi.
I need some advice. I want to consolidate my contacts, remove duplicates, add tags, and then sync them across applications (Addresbook, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, etc.) going forward. I'm finding many challenges and it seems there's not an easy way to do it.
    Addressbook
    * will not let you go through and review/edit/approve how it resolves duplicates
    * manually finding/fixing duplicates is tedious - there's no drag and drop from one contact to the other
    Yahoo Mail
    * will let you review/edit duplicates
    * has a tedious interface and requires importing/exporting files
    * when adding a new contact doesn't always let one add a group
    * no longer has a "find new contacts" feature that would auto populate new cards - so anyone's address that I rely on auto-fill from recent will not have a card yet
    Gmail
    * I don't have any contacts there yet.
    Palm
I originally had all my contacts in Palm and there's a lot of old "X-Palm-Category1:" etc in the notes, which actually make good tags, but are hard to edit to something like "tag:business". I can if necessary try to use Palm desktop 4.
    Bento
I have Bento 3 and I've tried using it to clean up some of my Addressbook contacts and start "tagging" my contacts to make searching easier. The problem there is that I can't find a way to batch process contacts. I also can't seem to add line breaks in the notes. So in Addressbook I can add  tag:123 and tag:456 on separate lines, but not in Bento so any AB card edited in Bento shows it as tag:123 tag:456 on one line
    Excel 2004
I have exported most of these contacts into Excel spreadsheets. (Bento will export the Apple AB into a spreadsheet). Attempting to compile and clean data in spreadsheets has it's own set of issues. In particular, the data are not laid out in columns that can be easily copy pasted into one template. For example, Yahoo contacts allow the label for the phone number to vary for the phone column instead of putting home, work, fax, and mobile numbers in separate columns.
    iPhone 4
I also have an iPhone but it oddly enough doesn't display any smart groups, and it doesn't even display the phone's default "unsorted" folder. I can only find a new contact added from the phone after syncing it back to the MBP and looking in a smart folder I made for it.
Other than hiring a data entry temp to fix this as a project, can anyone think of something that I could use/do to make this easier?
I would appreciate any and all suggestions.

I found out I sometimes have three or even four versions of the same file.
How did you find that out?

  • Howto import and batch rename ?

    Hello.
I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT2 that doesn´t give filenames in date/no. format, only sequential numbers.
So when I am importing the pictures the title of the image is the sequential image number, not the date the image was taken. I also do not see in the left hand column of iPhoto the dates the pictures were taken, as I would in a windows manner.
Does anyone have a solution for this ?

    1. The filename is of no consequence in iPhoto. You can change the Title of a Photo, or batches of Photos, using the Photos -> Batch Change command
I see no advantage to renaming or titling photos with the date the pics were taken. That's already in the Exif metadata.
    2. I also do not see in the left hand column of iPhoto the dates the pictures were taken
Nor would I expect you to. The left hand column is for browsing the Library. The library can be manipulated in many, many ways, not only date.
In Events view, your photos are categorised by date automatically
Using the Calendar Tool you can find any and all pics taken on a specific day/ month/ year with a click
Using Smart Albums you can also find photos from specific dates or date ranges
Finally, If you click on the wee 'i' button lower left you will see the Info Pane. Among other things this will show you the date of the selected pic.
    Lastly, some thing about this
as I would in a windows manner.
suggests that you might be new to Macs and iPhoto. Perhaps you might check out the Tutorials here

  • Unity 4.05 Bulk import and bulk edit PIN issue

    Hi Unity community!
I have previously used Bulk Import successfully many times in the past. Now however, it appears the DTMF PIN is not being assigned the default PIN for some reason. Also tried defining explicitly in csv input, no help. All subscribers add ok, put when trying to access mailbox for first time it says PIN is not valid. Also tried using bulk edit after the fact to force PIN to a known value. (with trivial psw allowed turned on). Bulk Edit says it changed PIN but same result. Does not take PIN. If we create a mailbox using standard Web/sa Add subscriber. it works fine, default PIN works.  Any thoughts? Thanks, Tim

When you were placing the internal test calls, where was your phone located?   The RTP streams are usually only set up between the two endpoints (assuming no transcoder or MTP is used).
Have you have already checked calls between IP phones at your central site (where Unity is located) and IP Phones at site A?   Are these working fine?   If not, then it's likely you do have a QoS issue over the WAN to Site A.
Have you confirmed whether or not calls from the PSTN gateway at site A experience any voice QoS issues when transferred to an IP Phone at the central site?
Is the same codec is being used for the MGCP gateway as for IP Phones at that site (check the Region settings for the Device Pool it's in)?
If these things have all been checked, then you may want to consider collecting a simultaneous sniffer trace from each end of a single call, and comparing what's seen at the two endpoints.
    Kind regards,
    Craig

  • Importing and re-editing movies

I'm doing a little school video project that requires re-editing some films on DVD. To do this, I need to know...
What is the best way to import a movie from DVD to a file format that can be edited in FCP without rendering, or killing my external harddrive (750gigs)?
What is the best way to convert video files already on my computer into files FCP can handle? What settings should I use?
Thanks in advance for the answers!

    Hi there
There are many ways of doing this. You can as mentioned 'rip out' the DVD compressed content using one of the free utility SW out there, or you can play the DVD and 'dub' it back to DV tape (this might be an option for you, if you don't want to use your hard drive. But if you do so, you may need to re-capture the 'now tape content' to your scratch disk [internal or external HD]) or last but not least, if you know the person who initially edited the footage, you may if (s)he still have the raw material - that worked for me once.
In regard to your Memory concern, I recommend that you always capture your Media files to external scratch disk (Hard drive).
    Good luck!

  • Import and/or export for actionscript without extention?

I have a project in which I need to import several hundered png images.
When I import them into the library, then select all the images, then view the properties, I Check the export for action script and the export in frame 1.
Now, all my images have class names that I can access though my code, however, it included the file extensions in the class names, thus making invalid class names.
Is there any way I can import and/or set class names so they do not include the file extensions without having to do it manually for EVERY file?

My actual project has something like 9200 images in it.
if  my main project, let's call it "main.fla", was to contain every one of  those images, every time I tried to run or debug it, it would take  FOREVER to compile... as a work around that I discovered in a previous  project was to put all my graphics and media into an swc file. (Let's  call it MyLibrary.swc)
While I was trying to get the  swc working, I discovered that while my media in the swc was indeed  setup to be exported for actionscript with unquie classes and  everything, when I compiled and built my project, I could not get any of  those media elements using the getDefinitionByName function.
After alot of reading and trail and error I found that the only way to get it to work was to have someplace in my code, an actual reference to the objects that I was trying to get with getDefinitionByName. It turned out, that without instantiating the object in the code, the compiler was omitting it.
Now, but instantiate, I mean doing this:
    var bm:BitmapData = new MyImage();
Where MyImage.png is in my swc and has a class defined as "MyImage"
Once I do that, then I can do this
    var classRef:Class = Class(  getDefinitionByName("MyImage")  );
But without that line above SOMEWHERE in my code (even if it's not actually executed), the getDefinitionByName returns an error saying it can't find the class.
    Now, here's the problem.
When I import all my images into my swc library they get named with the file extention... "MyImage.png" and when I select all the images that Imported and batch set the export for actionscript, they get automatically assigned a class name equal to their library name, so the class name is "MyImage.png"
so if I wanted to use getDefinitionByName to access the class, I would need to instantiate it in my code by doing this:
    var bm:BitmapData = new MyImage.png();
BUT, that is erronous as the period causes an error and the adobe docs says right in it that class names can't use periods or any other non-alphanumeric character.
So while the getDefinitionByName function DOES actually work with classes with periods in them, because my media is external of the main.fla, I can't load it unless it's instantiated first, which leaves me right back where I was.... having to to manually rename over 9000 classes manually one at a time.
I did some searching and found the "Flash Library Renamer" extension, but it requires me changing all my class names to be sequenial, which the vast majority is not.
Is there a way that I can import the files into the library and have it omit the file extension?
if not, is there a way that I can set the class names in a batch and not have it use the file extentions?
if not, is there an Flash Extention or plug in that will allow batch renaming using regular expression or wildcards?

  • Keywords on Import?

I enter keywords on import and may use the same keyword multiple times.
When I twirl open the keyword HUD I have to re-move the keyword into the "folder" I created that already has the keyword in it. It gives me a move keyword warning and then asks if I want to merge which I do.
It takes a while - I get the beach ball - there has got to be a better way.
I do select replace on import and perhaps I should be selecting append?
I'm new at this and migrating 35,000 images into Aperture for the 1st time.
I am in the process of reading the Apple Pro Aperture 2 book but have not gotten to that topic yet.
I am hoping someone can jump in with a faster, easier, more efficient way to keep my keyword HUD tidy and not give me multiples of keywords which already exist in the HUD from previous imports.
    Thanks!

OK ... I've dug my way out.  Fortunately I'm rather anal about backups.
    - I deleted the files I had just imported and closed LR (without doing another backup.)
    - I erased my current LR Catalog file.
    - I went to my backups and copied my last LR Catalog file back to the folder for my current file.  (I make a backup anytime I make ANY changes to information in the files, so it was current as of just before I tried to import the new photos.)
    - I spot checked several files from over the years and ALL appears to be in order.  (Disaster averted ...)
NOW ... Anyone have any idea what the heck happened before I try to re-import my new photos?

  • IPhoto is quitting unexpectedly and losing the photos I just imported and edited.

iPhoto is quitting unexpectedly and losing the photos I just imported and edited.  Any suggestions to fix it?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Log and Transfer : any way to import a batch list?

    HI
Anyone know if it's possible to import a Batch list of In/Out points (ie a txt file from Excel) to automatically populate the Log and Transfer window? (as can be done in the Log and Capture Window)
It would help reduce the amount of data produced when converting from AVHHD.
There's a great little app called ProxyMill that generates small QT Versions of AVCHD file with Timecode Burned In ... so offline style capture lists are certainly possible, if only I could import the resultant data!
    Thanks in advance
    Lee

    Importing a Batch List
You can import a batch list into Final Cut Pro and use it to capture clips to edit or to create a sequence originally done on another editing system. The frame rate of the batch list is determined by the currently selected sequence preset in the Audio/Video Settings window.
Note: A batch list must be a text file. In some cases, you may need to add the .txt file extension to your filename to ensure that Final Cut Pro can import your file.
    To import a batch list
In the Browser, open an existing bin, or create a new bin to store the offline clips and open it.
For more information, see “Organizing Footage in the Browser.”
Choose File > Import > Batch List.
Note: The frame rate of the current sequence preset appears in the Import Batch List command name. For example, if a DV NTSC preset is selected, the command is named Import Batch List at 29.97 fps.
Locate the batch list, select it, then click Choose.
The logged clips appear in the Browser as offline clips that you need to capture.
You can capture the clips all at one time by doing a batch capture. For more information, see “Batch Capturing Clips.”
Note: Make sure you have all the source tapes associated with the batch list before starting the capture process.
If you’re having a problem importing a batch capture list, check the format of the text file. Final Cut Pro does not support importing RTF (Rich Text Format) text files. If you have an RTF file you need to import, open it in a text editing application such as TextEdit and save it as a plain text document first.

I imported several events for iPhoto into Aperture3 and in Aperture it shows two photos for each photo imported, one original and one edited although none of the photos imported were edited. Why has this happened and what do I need to do to prevent this in future. I have only recently got Aperture and am trying to learn as I go along using the Focal Press guide. Thanks for any help.

This is not what I found to be the case in a recent experiment using iPhoto11- I did repeat it to be sure.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/15586837#15586837
Quickly, what I found is that only the ones I did actual adjustments on brought over two images.  Images that were simply rotated, had "quick fixes" or "Effects" did not bring in two images.  More importantly, among the ones with adjustments that did bring in two images, the ones with the keyword  "iPhoto Edited" appear to be nothing more than iPhoto's 6MB JPEG Previews.  The master was a 25MB RAW image.
I don't know why some users are experiencing doubles on everything, but I recommend caution in deciding which ones to remove or you may find yourself deleting masters and keeping previews.

  • What is the best way to import and edit a large amount of footage?

    Hello Apple world,
As a newbie to Final Cut 10 I have a question regarding best ways to import footage. I'll give you a quick run down.
I have a 150 gig of gopro footage that I just hit 'import' to recently (from my external HD), it took around 10 hours to process it all.
Its all under one event, but then somewhat organised into dates etc. But it is very slow. I imported it all at once because it was all footage from the last 6 months of my Whistler/states/fiji trip and want to make a movie out of it, using clips from all over the time, not just in chronological order.
I have the latest mac book pro, 4 gig ram,2.4 GHz i7, 750 hard drive, with nothing else on the computer.
Ive read about creating proxy media, after ive imported, but am still somewhat confused as to the benefit. Does it create duplicates? that will fill up my pretty large HD as it is!
Can you suggest any ways that might make my laptop run a bit faster? Should i delete and work directly from external HD etc etc?
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance

    Hello,
I've just finished shooting what I am considering to be my directorial masterpiece.  Shot it on the Canon 5D (1080p, 24fps), and the footage looks amazing.  Now I am ready to start editing and have been using premiere lately, but I have yet to figure out the proper pipeline.  I want to know the best way to retain resolution before I delve into this project.
    My questions:
    1)  What is the best way to start a new project and import the footage without having to render whilst editing, so as to retain all resolution and originality of the source footage?
    2)  What is the best way/ codec/ format to export this same footage once editing is complete so as to retain that crisp 1080p for which the 5D is so recognized?
    3)  What is the best way/ codec/ format to import and export/ render between premiere and after effects?  I am speaking mostly of vfx and color correction.  I also have some 30fps footage that I intend to slow down in AE and then import into premiere.
I know this is pretty broad, but as a solo filmmaker I really need someone's guidance.  I rarely ever finish my films with the same, crisp look as the footage.  I need pipeline help, and really appreciate it!
    1. Follow the advice above. Also use the Media Browser to import the footage in case you have spanned media files. Import files with the Media Browser.
    2. It largely depends on what you wish to ouput to: Blu-ray, web, etc. This FAQ gives the best answer: What are the best export settings?
    3. Use the Replace with Adobe After Effects Composition function.
