Keyword question, added to meta data?

I saw a thread about keywords not showing up in converted files meta data. I believe the solution was to make sure that auto-update xmp was set. So does this mean that to have keywords associated with my files outside of LR that I will need to use an xmp sidecar file as well? So if I send files to my stock agency, or to a client who needs the keywords I will need to send the converted file and be sure that the xmp file is sent as well? If this is the case, has anyone who does this encountered problems with their submitted photos/xmp files not being handled properly by their clients/agencies?
Perhaps I am not understanding. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks

This shouldn't be an issue.
XMP only needs to be updated when you want the keywords to go into your originals (i.e. the same files that are in your library).
Keywords and other metadata are always inserted into to exported files (JPEG, TIFF, DNG, etc), except if you check the "minimize metadata" option in the Export dialog box.

  • Adding detailed meta data

I've tried to look a few more times, but I haven't been able to work it out. I want to add detailed meta data to all my images. When I can add the exact same meta data to a batch, I can use the Sync Metadata button. However, I haven't been able to find a way to get that dialogue box when I want to add data to just one image (as there's nothing to sync). At the moment, I'm creating virtual copies to 'sync', so I can add detailed metadata.

When you only want to add metadata to one photo, you do that over on the right in the Metadata panel.

  • How to Create .m4v Meta Data ?

I am having difficulty with retaining meta-data in .m4v files that I create.
The issue revolves around the .m4v file format, which can be produced using source DV data with applications such as Quicktime, iMovie, etc.
iTunes gives the user the ability to import .m4v files into iTunes and offers a way of customizing the metadata which then iTunes uses to sort and categorize as either TV Shows or Movies.
By default, iTunes assigns all imported .m4v files to the Movie category. I attempted to change the categorization to "TV Show", and added additional meta-data, but for some reason this meta-data doesn't seem to be stored as an integral part of the file, but somewhere else.
The problem is when I move the data from one machine to another, say for a server upgrade, or a client upgrade. The meta data appears to be lost.
I would like the ability to retain the meta data that has been entered either by retaining the files that contain the meta data, or by knowing how to embed the meta data into the file itself.
    Any help would be appreciated.

I'd recommend using Lostify ( http://lostify.com/about/ ) to tag your files. This is done with the actual file and not in itunes so it should be transportable. I wouldn't worry about it's automatic tagging as you can do this manually.
    Kind regards

  • Problems with Importing / Exporting Keywords and Meta Datas

    Hi to all!
I recently upgraded to Aperture 3 and upgraded my referenced library.
Today I opened the Keyword HUD and noticed some keywords splattered in my list, which seem to be any older ones, since the new numbering indicated that they are not applied to any pictures.
    So I deleted them.
Than I noticed the <Imported Keywords> folder, opened it, and it contained also a large number of previous keywords. Also they seemed not to be in use, so I also removed them.
Than I locked the Keyword HUD.
Now my question: If I export a version, with the option for 'include metadata' ticked, and edit the version than in Photoshop, and after it, import it back into the Aperture library I do have the problem.
I have tried 'Import Meta Datas' and and click 'Append'. Than it is recognizing the former keywords, which I would appreciate, but not as 'Imported Keywords'.
If I would open the file w/ the External Editor and return it back, I guess I would not have this problem. Usually I do open the referenced RAW file, and import than the edited version back into Aperture. Keywords are stored in the Library, so I would not avail the former given keywords than, is that right?
By the way are the keywords part of Meta Datas or not?
    Are there any workarounds?
And had other people also problems with their keyword list after upgrading?
Thank for any ideas / infos!

  • Adding a custom meta data field which lists out content id based on query

How can we add a custom meta data filed which lists out content id based on query like dDocType <matches> `AssociatedProduct`?
Or other alternative would be to have a custom metadata field such that it allows selection of content id using link wizard which we typically use in site studio. It would be preferable to have this second option as it is user friendly. Can we do this on a check-in screen?

    Thanks for the reply Deepak.
We got it resolved. We did following changes in /ucm/custom/SiteStudio/resources/ss_custom_field_resources.htm file and it worked cleanly.

  • Adding Meta Data Permanently to files but nothing else

Can You add your Meta Data information permanently to a file but not any of the other lighting changes? Like you can do in Bridge? So all the hard work stays with the images even if say you lightroom computer died or was stolen?
I know I could export the files and then it would be permanently added but then I would have a double library/hard disk space use.

Auto export to XMP set in the prefs writes to XMP sidecars for RAWs, but puts it in JPEGs, TIFFs and DNGs. Seems like tis is what you want. There are many very vocal on not liking the idea of LR doing this to there 'Originals'. It is just a Metadata ad, not changing the actual image info.

  • While adding localization for appstore meta data, I cannot find the language Polish (Polski)

While adding localization for appstore meta data, I cannot find the language Polish (Polski) under the option Choose another language: in iTunes connect.
I am updating the app to a newer version. I need to show the App description etc in Polish too. But I can't fnd the Polish in the list of languages that can be

    Thanks.

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you have an issue about adding attachments to list items in app.
To add attachment to list item in the host web, we should first get the list and the list items from the host web, then add the attachments to the list items.
There are two articles about retrieve the list and list items in the host web, you can refer to them.

    http://www.c-sharpcorner.com/UploadFile/93cb27/retrieve-sharepoint-app-host-web-list-items-in-sharepoint-ho/
What’s more, we can also use the REST API to achieve the same scenario.

  • Songbird Damaged iTunes Meta Data and Recently Added List. Best way to fix?

    Hello, Apple forums.
A while ago (Long enough to fix some of the broken Meta data), I tried out Songbird as an alternative for when I'm gaming and want a little extra resources.
Unfortunately, I set it up to sync between iTunes and Songbird, and Songbird "updated" my iTunes information and removed META data in the process for any song played on Songbird.
It also had the recently added moved to "Songbird > Recently Added," and proceeded to fill it with every song in my library.
My music is stored on a Western Digital MyBook external HDD (320GB) formatted to FAT32.
I have fifteen playlists, and would like to retain ratings and play counts on the songs.
My library reads "8196 songs, 19:15:40:31 total time, 50.13"
Granted, a couple hundred of these are the ones missing the META data and are broken entries (IE has all the data listed but does not have the file where it should be) and their META-less version added from %library%\music\unknown artists\unknown album\
(The tracks retain their real name with the track number prefixing them, it's just a matter of going through all of the songs and matching them up)
Given that this is as it is, how should I go about this?
I would also like to keep the apps for my 2nd Gen iPod Touch (iOS Pois0ned 4.2.1).
All music is either imported from a CD or an independent artist.
I don't have access to all of the CD's, nor do I particularly want to manually re-add everything.
I am more concerned with the recently added playlist being fixed! I understand that I will have to cut my losses on the META data!

I thought you said Songbird had removed metadata. Most files carry metadata in a tag. If a file "goes missing" because another program chooses to relocate it iTunes will retain an entry in the library with all that information. The FindTracks script makes a bash at locating the moved files in a number of alternate locations, including the unknown artist/unknown album folder or the main Music folder. If the files have actually had metadata removed, but have a tag, then iTunes will read the damaged data and update itself. Not necessarily what you want. For files that are in a logical artist/album layout but don't have tags you could be better off repairing tags first with, for example, MediaMoney's AutoTag from Filename feature.

I had to look up RAT. I'm guessing you meant something like remote admin/access tool. By all means be wary of anything recommended on this site but to accuse me of being underhand without any evidence is hardly the way to start a fruitful conversation. I thought you wanted help here...

  • Adding alternative text (meta data)

How do you add Alternative Text to an existing jpeg?
    Thanks

    Good day!
A jpg can not have »proper« editable text (except in the meta data etc.) but rather presents an image of text.
So changing text in the image would require removing the old text (if it is not completely covered by the new text at least) by using the various tools available for such a task in Photoshop (Clone Stamp Tool, Content Aware Fill, …) and writing in the new one (with the Type Tool for example).
In such a case it might pay off to keep the layered psd file and save a jpg off of that (File > Save As).

  • Regex question: How do I insert commas between meta data?

Current search engine is being replaced with Google Search Appliance (GSA). It requires meta data to be separated by a comma + space, whereas the previous search engine required only a space.  For example:
    <meta name="C_NAME" content="Screen1 Screen2">
    must become
    <meta name="C_NAME" content="Screen1, Screen2">
There are 17 unique screen names and each of 2500 html files may have one or more screen names identified in that meta tag field.
I am hoping for some regular express magic to help me with that global search/replace effort.  Suggestions are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rick
    ================================
Nevermind... figured it out.  Just needed to study regex syntax a bit. Here's the answer:
    Find:  <meta name="C_NAME" content="(\w+)\s(\w+)\s
    Replace:  <meta name="C_NAME" content="$1, $2,

The only transition you can add this way is default cross dissolve. If the images are in the timeline, move the playhead to the beginning of the images, select them all, and drag from the timeline to the canvas to overwrite with transition.

  • Question about meta-data of Web Dynpro ABAP / Web Dynpro Java

    Hello together,
everywhere I can read, that Web Dynpro meta-data is platform independent.
I´ve read into a book, that the meta-data of Web Dynpro Java is saved as XML and
that Web-Dynpro Java Runtime generates runnable classes and sourcecode out of this...
    - What about Web-Dynpro ABAP? Is Meta-code in ABAP is saved in XML too?
    - just for theory: is ist possible to take the meta-data of a Web-Dynpro ABAP component and
generate a Web-Dynpro Java Component out of this?
I tried to find it out but i failed... In table WDR_RR_LOAD (is this the right one?) I found only the
field data. But this is a RAWSTRING and I don´t know how to make I "readable".
I must know this for my thesis for my studies, not for work.
    Thank you very much !!!!
    Greetings,
    Oliver

    Me again,
I am not sure if I understood it right...
The meta-data which describes the visual part of a view is saved as XML and
would be rendered i.e. in the webbrowser... Right?
What about the meta-data of the Web Dynpro application?
Is this meta-code into an other structure or XML too?
    Thank you very much.
    Many Greetings,
    Oliver

  • Genius Question regarding classical music (or meta-data in general)

OK - I have a fairly large library and probably 50% of it has meta-data that when pulled up automatically I leave (this is for the bulk, but not all of non-classical genres) as is post import and/or purchase from itunes. Now, here is the enchilada:
I am a big classical music listener and m constantly tweaking my library to make it as easy as possible to organize classical music - I still don't have it perfected as there isn't a standard - there are many standards and many are based on how you want to prioritize/search for things: I use composer as the "main" field to search(I have it as Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus as opposed to just Mozart or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart) and then I also search by Artist as a secondary way which is fine should I want to focus on a conductor or a string quartet, etc.
Now, there are basically three options that most folks will use with classical meta-data:
    1. If purchased from iTunes, leave it as is
    2. If pulled from CDDB, leave it as is
    3. My methodology: I do both 1 & 2 and more than 95% of the time I have to tweak the way it looks.
Assuming all of this is common amongst the 65,000,000 iTunes users, I would love to know how Genius works with this - I uploaded to he Genius Cloud last night my library. How does Genius look at the same album which may have either simple or significant meta-data discrepencies/changes vs. the way it is in the iTunes system? Have I lost anyone in my rambling??
    Thanks,
    Steve
hearand I do it by last name, first name

Based on what I have been seeing over at the Macworld forums, Genius does not play too well with classical music and the situation is really bad if the user modifies any fields to their liking. Using the ISRC code would make more sense, as it is something the user cannot modify and to rely on user-definable fields would result in many libraries being crippled in terms of the new feature.
In terms of the metadata, there are two composer fields: Composer and Sort Composer. You would place “Mozart” or “Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart” in the composer tag and “Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus” in the Sort Composer tag to force the proper sorting order.

  • Images (w/correct meta data) are in catalog and on disk, but LR 5.7 considers them new on Import

For reasons explained below, I want to try to re-import all my images into LR and hope that none/few are in fact considered new and are imported.  Yet, for some folders, LR is apparently unable to detect that my source images are already in the catalog, and are on disk, and that the source file meta data matches what LR knows about the images.  When I click an image in LR and Show in Finder, I do see the imported image on disk.  I can edit the image in the Develop module.  So, it seems good, but all is not well.   Sorry for the long post here, but I wanted to provide as much info as I could, as I am really seeking your help, which I'd very much appreciate.
Here are some screen shots that illustrate the problem:
Finder contents of the original images
    LR folder hierarchy
an image as seen in LR
Finder content of external LR copy of images
    import showing 10 "new" photos
The original images ... (I'm not sure why the file date is April 2001 but the actual image date is January 2011; I may have just used the wrong date on the folder name?)
    The LR folder hierarchy ...
An image as seen in LR ...
The external folder containing the images in the LR library
But on import of the original source folder, LR sees 10 "new" photos ...
I tried "Synchronize Folder ..." on this particular folder, and it simply hangs half-way through as seen in the screen shot below.   IS THIS AN LR BUG?   This is really odd, since "Synchronize Folder ..." on the top-level folder completes quickly.
I have a spreadsheet of of the EXIF data for the original files and those created by LR.  (I extracted this info using the excellent and free pyExifToolGui graphical frontend for the command line tool ExifTool by Phil Harvey.)   Almost all of the Exif data is the same, but LR has added some additional info to the files after import, including (of course) keywords.  However, I would not have expected the differences I found to enter into the duplicate detection scheme.  (I didn't see a way to attach the spreadsheet to this posting as it's not an "image".)
I'm running LR 5.7 on a 27" iMac with Yosemite 10.10.2, having used LR since LR2.  I have all my original images (.JPEGs and RAWs of various flavors) on my internal drive on the Mac.   To me this is like saving all my memory cards and never re-using them.   Fortunately, these files are backed up several ways.   I import these images (copying RAWs as DNG) into LR with a renaming scheme that includes the import number, original file creation date and original file name.   There should be one LR folder for each original source file folder, with the identical folder name (usually a place and date).  I store the LR catalog and imported images on an external drive.  Amazingly and unfortunately my external drive failed as did it's twin, same make/size drive that I used as a backup with Carbon Copy Cloner.   I used Data Rescue 4 to recover to a new disk what I thought was almost all of the files on the external drive.
So, I thought all would be well, but, when I tried "Synchronize Folder" using the top-level folder of my catalog, the dialog box appeared saying there were over 1000 "New" photos that had not been imported.  This made be suspicious that I had failed to recover everything.   But actually things are much worse than I thought..   I have these counts of images:
80,0061 files in 217 folders for my original source files (some of these may be (temporary?) copies that I actually don't want to import into LR)
51,780 files in 187 folders on my external drive containing the LR photo library
49,254 images in the top-level folder in the LR catalog (why different from the external file count?)
35,332 images found during import of the top-level folder containing original images
22,560 images found as "new" by LR during import
1,074 "new" images reported by Synchronize Folder ... on the top-level folder in the catalog; different from import count
Clearly things are badly out of sync.   I'd like to be sure I have all my images in LR, but none duplicated.   Thus, I want to try to import the entire library and have LR tell me which photos are new.  I have over 200 folders in LR.  I am now proceeding to try importing each folder, one at a time, to try to reconcile the differences and import the truly missing images.  This will be painful.  And it may not be enough to fully resolve the above discrepancies.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?  I'd really appreciate your help!
    Ken

Thanks for being on the case, dj!   As you'll see below, YOU WERE RIGHT!      But I am confused.
        1. Does the same problem exist if you try to import (not synchronize) from that folder? In other words, does import improperly think these are not duplic
YES.  Import improperly thinks they are NOT duplicates, but they are in fact the same image (but apparently not the EXACT SAME bytes on disk!)
        2. According to the documentation, a photo is considered a duplicate "if it has the same, original filename; the same Exif capture date and time; and the same file size."
    This is my understanding too.
        3. Can you manually confirm that, for an example photo, that by examining the photo in Lightroom and the photo you are trying to synchronize/import, that these three items are identical?
NO, I CAN'T!  The ORIGINAL file name (in the source folder) is the SAME as it was when I first imported that folder.  That name is used as part of the renaming process using a custom template. However, the file SIZES are different.    Here is the Finder Get Info for both files.  Initially, they appeared to be the same SIZE, 253KB, looking at the summary. But, if you look at the exact byte count, however, the file sizes are DIFFERENT: 252,632 for the original file and 2252,883 for the already-imported file:
This difference alone is enough to indicate why LR does not consider the file a duplicate.
Furthermore, there IS one small difference in the EXIF data regarding dates ... the DateTimeOriginal:
                                                                                                     CreateDate              DateTimeDigitized                    DateTimeOriginal              FileModifyDate                              ModifyDate
    ORIGINAL name: P5110178.JPG                                     2001:05:11 15:27:18    2001:05:11 15:27:18-07:00        2001:01:17 11:29:00        2011:01:17 11:29:00-07:00       2005:04:24 14:41:05
    After LR rename:  KRJ_0002_010511_P5110178.JPG    2001:05:11 15:27:18    2001:05:11 15:27:18-07:00        2001:05:11 15:27:18        2011:01:17 11:29:02-07:00       2005:04:24 14:41:05
So ... now I see TWO reasons why LR doesn't consider these duplicates.   Though the file NAME is the same (as original), the file sizes ARE slightly different.  The EXIF "DateTimeOriginal" is DIFFERENT.   Therefore, LR considers them NOT duplicates.
4a. With regards to the screen captures of your images and operating system folder, I do not see that the filename is the same; I see the file names are different. Is that because you renamed the photos in Lightroom (either during import or afterwards)?
I renamed the file on import using a custom template ...
4b. Can you show a screen capture of this image that shows the original file name in the Lightroom metadata panel (it appears when the dropdown is set to EXIF and IPTC)?
    SO ....
The METADATA shown by LR does NOT include the ORIGINAL file name (but I think I have seen it displayed for other files?).  The File SIZE in the LR metadata panel (246.96 KB) is different from what Finder reports (254 KB).  There are three "date" fields in the LR metadata, and five that I've extracted from the EXIF data.   I'm not sure which EXIF date corresponds to the "Data Time" shown in the LR metadata.
I don't understand how these differences arose.   I did not touch the original file outside LR.   LR is the only program that touches the file it has copied to my external drive during import.  (though it was RECOVERED from a failed disk by Data Rescue 4),
    NOW ...
I understand WHY LR considers the files different (but not how they came to be so).  The question now is WHAT DO I DO ABOUT IT?   Is there any tool I can use to adjust the original (or imported) file's SIZE and EXIF data to match the file LR has?  Any way to override or change how LR does duplicate detection?
Thanks so very much, dj.   Any ideas on how to get LR to ignore these (minor) differences would be hugely helpful.

  • Photoshop Meta Data File Sizes

I am using meta data "description" menu to add meta data to web images.
    The basics:
    title
    description
    keywords
    copyright
Thats is about it for my application....so far and like I say it is just for web images at this point.
At any rate to me surprise I did not realize how much the meta data added to file size.
I had assummed it was minimal but in fact that is not the case. Meta data ends up adding a lot.
    Question:
So is there a way in Photoshop to see what the final file size will be with the meta data included as I have found, so far, is the image itself file size when I view the
"Saving for Web & Devices" menu screen.
Also tried the "Info" menu and neither indicate the meta data additons ito an images file size.
One of the reasons is, of course, that I would like to get as many keywords in there as possible, as an example lets say this was the logo or site's header and they have a lot of different products.
The more keywords the better the SEO results will be. I am sure this statement in itself is disputable but as of now 5/2013 it appears that way as far as SE's are concerned.
Tested this extensively and the result were remakable, but that is another story.
Any help or links to other infomration will be
    greatly appreciated
    thank you
    Jonny

I new that was a big mistake saying it that way.
I was focused on the file size issue.
Trying to use more efficient effective keywords for an image that represents several products.
As a simple example let's say the site focused on pencils, pens, and paper clips.
So just using one of those keywords or even just two of them would be misleading to the site visitor.
So in my opinion using all three would be most effective.
I don't intend to use red pens, black pens, purple pens, metal paper clips, plastic paper clips, colored paper clips, etc.
But that is not my point anyway. What a pain in the *** it will be to try this, save it, try that, save it, blah, blah, blah, etc.
Thank you very muich for taking the time to respond and KNOW that I greatly appreciate your advise.
    You confimred my suspicions.
I did find a PS CS5 Plug-in that would supposedly make this task easier but i am very suspicous, won't waste my time.
Took a copy of the default "raw data" from the "File Info" menus and pasted that into BBEdit (XML or whatever) and the file size increased by about 3.5k with just the default "raw data", whoa.
So with experimetation, as you suggest I may get and idea of size more or less.
I was hoping I was making it harder than it was but Adobe has not responded either.

  • Used Relocate Masters to new g-drive. Lost Aperature Library and meta data

    how i crashed aperature
    1.56 aperature
    all updates current
    tiger 10.4.11
    all updates current
Goal was to move Aperature Library from MBP to g-drive.
    what i did:
    1. "Relocate Master" to g-drive. Success. Aperature still viewed all Files with all Meta Data normally.
    2. Collapsed "Library" in Projects Panel. Did not delete Projects. Did not delete any Photos.
    3. Preferences > Image Management > set new Aperature Library on g-drive.
    4. Uploaded new photos from a Canon and viewed them successfully.
    5. Ejected g-drive correctly.
what Aperature is not doing now:
    1. no Projects show up.
    2. no Referenced Photos show up.
    3. no Vaults show up. Note: the Vault was originally on MBP, but I foolishly did not set one up on g-drive before moving. I also have a back up Vault on a different g-drive that is, unfortunately, not up to date with all current photos before move.
    4. Aperature Library on g-drive is there but can not open any files in it. [note: item 3 above]
    5. Image files listed in g-drive but won't open in Aperature but do open in Preview or Gimp, etc.
    6. Aperature does not show any Vaults nor does it access Referenced Files.
    *Can you help ?*
*I guess these would be the questions:*
    1. How can I get the pics from the g-drive back into an Aperature Library with all the previous Meta Data attached to each Version?
    2. How do I get the Aperature Library - I put on the g-drive - to open in Aperature?
    3. If #1 is impossible - I guess I set up a Vault on the g-drive and move what I have from the back up Vault mentioned above.
    *Thanks for any advice !!!*

If I an not mistaken, I may have read through your pdf's quite a while ago. I am still trying to digest them and then apply them to my needs. If I had known that small projects may be faster and easier to manage than larger ones I would have done my imports quite differently. I chose to use Aperture in the first place to organize and add information to photos. I archive old photos. In particularly from 350th Fighter Group, WWII in the Mediterranean. So one "Project" of mine is =/-5000 images in the form of TIFF scans. I imported all of these into 1 project. Then I started applying metadata and keywwords like crazy. This allowed me to start to sort the photos into categories and find multiple version of the same image. I started making stacks of all the multiples. Then with smart albums and smart web sites I was able to create what might now be smaller projects. Since I gather information from others by sharing these photos on a website, You are able to see the smart websites here.

One cool thing is that various images reside in multiple smart webs based on common keyword. But now that I have all this organization, it seems it is time to put all my originals in a similar order via Aperture.
By the way, my files are reference files unless I make the mistake of importing them without leaving them in there original location.
I am thinking of starting over with blue folders. But I can't seem to get my head around it.
