Keyword search in Apple Notes on Mountain Lion?

Hi friends. I hope someone can enlighten me and help put some faith back into Apple's software development.
Does anyone know how to do a keyword search in Apple Notes on Mountain Lion?? I know that sounds completely stupid but let me explain...
In the top left corner there is a search field. When I enter a keyword it searches all the notes, and in the left hand pain it filters the notes that have the keyword in them. It doesn't actually show me *where" the keyword appears, it only shows the notes that *contain* them. It's just a filter, not a search. Try it for yourself.
It would be like doing a keyword search in a PDF, and it only tell you which pages it appears on, rather than where on the page. It is completely useless.
I fail to believe the program would be this limited. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? Please no suggestions to go find another note program. I need notes for particular reasons.

This behavior makes complete sense to me.  If I designed it, I would do it exactly the same way.
Here's why:  Notes are not expected to be treatises.  They are expected to be reasonably short.  You should easily be able to find the search target in your relatively brief note.
Nonetheless, if you fee like you'd like to ask Apple for this feature, here's how to supply feedback to Apple:

  • Search and Document History in Mountain Lion

Anyone out there figured out what Apple is doing with the Search and Document History in Mountain Lion? Here's my beef:
Missing History in Finder. Finder used to have a "History" button in the sidebar that would track docs by when you last used them--yeterday, this week, this month, etc. This was SUPER helpful--but it seems to have disappeared. Anyone know how to make it reappear, or has Apple decided that I don't really need it?
Really Hard to Search by Filename. In the old version, there was a button that would allow me to search by filename, but the new version makes you click through several very janky layers to do that. Anyone have a shortcut? Or advice on how to reorient my brain to the new search logic?
    Thanks!

FileVault is one option, as etresoft points out. But you should note that e-mail is an inherently insecure medium. You should never transmit confidential information about patients via e-mail. That's like writing it on a postcard and mailing it... You're trusting everyone between you and the recipient not to read it. You need to either discuss cases only using something like a unique ID number that cannot be linked to the patient without access to your records, or you need to use encrypted e-mail (which is a pain to get set up, because everyone involved needs to participate).

  • I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade, but not to Mountain Lion.

I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to upgrade, but not to Mountain Lion. How do I upgrade to Leopard or snow leopard?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.

  • CS Upgrade With Apple iMac OSX Mountain Lion

Does any one know if Adobe has a software download patch to be able to use Photoshop CS Upgrade with a new Apple iMac OSX Mountain Lion please?

I checked and mine is an iMac8,1.
When I tried downloading Yosemite it looked as if it started, but then... nothing... I tried several times, to no avail.
I just called Apple and they said downloading Mountain Lion should work. Ordered online, paid my $21 and am now waiting for the download code.
Hope this works. I'm not very computer savvy at all.

  • Export (Backup) Notes in Mountain Lion?

    Dear Apple Community,
is there any possiblity to export the notes in mountain lion?
On Lion I could export the notes!

    William Lloyd wrote:
Your notes are stored in a Core Data database.
    The location is ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Notes/Library/Notes/
There are 2 or 3 files in there, called NotesV1.storedata (stuff).
Note on Mountain Lion, that the ~/Library folder is hidden by default which explains why you can't see it.
There is no way that I'm aware of to do mass import or export of notes from within the Notes application.  However, Notes is AppleScriptable so you could write an AppleScript that would do it.  This obviously requires knowing enough AppleScript to do it.
You can Google for something like "Notes.app" "mountain lion" "import" and find stuff, like this:
    http://macscripter.net/viewtopic.php?id=39166
That's to import.  You could reverse the script to export stuff.
You have got to be kidding!!!!
I looked at the page you reference.
One of the biggest selling points for me to get an apple was that I could use time machine to recuperate "lost" items.
    This is WAY too complicated!!
    Any easier solutions?
    Thanks

  • HT4865 Notes in Mountain Lion

Do notes in mountain lion get stored securely on the iCloud server.  now that notes is separate from mail, apple would not need to store them in IMAP servers like they were doing when notes was integrated into the mail app.

    thanks for the link Winston.
I did read this article before I posted.  the article came out before Mountain Lion and maybe it needs to be updated to be clear.
It does clearly say that notes are transmitted security but it does not say for sure that they are stored on IMAP servers.  it says iCloud does not store data on IMAP servers securely but doesn’t say whether this applies to both Mail and Notes.
before the separate Notes app on ML, I would assume this KB article was referring to both Mail and Notes being stored on the IMAP server because the interface for Notes was embedded into Mail.
It may be that Notes are still stored on IMAP servers even though they now have their own app but since the KB article pre-dates ML, it makes me wonder.

Choose About this Mac from the Apple menu and check the processor.
If it's a Core Duo, it can only be upgraded to 10.6.8; Mac OS X 10.6 DVDs are available in the online Apple Store.
If it's a Core 2 Duo, follow the instructions for the Core Duo, phone the online Apple Store, and order a download code for Lion 10.7.

  • Notes in Mountain Lion with images

I created notes on Mountain Lion and they sync with my iPad/iPhone.  However notes on Mountain Lion that contain images dont sync, the note sync but the images dont.
Is there a way to fix this?  Is this part of iOS 6?

This is normal. For the moment. IOS notes should show a paperclip instead of an image. For images to sync you have to wait for IOS6.

  • Imessage not working with Apple ID after Mountain Lion (neither on iPhone anymore)

    Hi,
Ive been searching on the net for 2 days in a row hours and hours and decided to place the question here.
Since updating to Mountain Lion iMessage doesn't recognize my Apple ID anymore, it was working good on the beta.
When i try to login it says Apple ID and/or Password incorrect. It works fine on the store and iCloud.
I've tried changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8, did the keychain tricks with deleting the acounts and resetting, tried booting in Safe mode, tried killing the agent in activity monitor and tried deleting the all the iMessage/Agent/iChat files in the preferences directory. I also re installed the Mountain lion update, no go.
I tried everything on every topic i could find.
Also iMessage isnt working on my iPhone either anymore, it does send to my phone number but not to my Apple ID email anymore, when i try to login with apple id it says it cannot connect as well.
Since it isnt working on my iphone and my macbook, i reckon it has something to do with my Apple ID, but i find it weird that it just happened after the update. Ive been using this ID for 3.5 years withouth problems, it's also verifeid.
    Anyone help?
    Thanks in advance
    Etienne.

  • Any solution to the lack of search in Outlook after installing Mountain Lion?

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion and now all the cool Outlook search features:
Type a word in the search box
Type from:"name" in the search box
    Don't work.
Any ideas?  Any sense of whether either MSFT or APPL are planning to address this?

I see two things. First, notice this fourth line from your GPT. It says ~73GB of disk space is not allocated to any partition, it's free space. Why?
    40          409600       1  GPT part - C12A7328-F81F-11D2-BA4B-00A0C93EC93B
    409640      742851896    2  GPT part - 48465300-0000-11AA-AA11-00306543ECAC
    743261536   1269536      3  GPT part - 426F6F74-0000-11AA-AA11-00306543ECAC
    744531072   153633664
    898164736   78608384     4  GPT part - EBD0A0A2-B9E5-4433-87C0-68B6B72699C7
The good news is that partition 4 for Windows in the GPT and MBR have the same start - end sectors. However in the MBR no partition is marked bootable. One must be bootable and it's customary for Apple to mark the Windows partition bootable. I strongly suspect this is why Windows is not a boot option, and it's rather easy to fix.
    4: 0C 1023 254  63 - 1023 254  63 [ 898164736 -   78608384] Win95 FAT32L
My suggestion is that you reclaim the missing free space before you proceed with MBR repair, but missing ~73GB of space isn't hurting anything. Try the following and report back:
    diskutil list /dev/disk0
    diskutil resizevolume /dev/disk0 limits
Again both are read-only commands and do not alter the disk information in any way.
