Keyword search in multiple folders

May be a stupid question.....
We want to have all of our photos stored on one server and then access them remotely and be able to do a keyword search to locate them later.
We did a test with several folders but when we do a keyword search we have to be in the subfolder for Bridge to recognize the keyword.
Example:
Main Folder - Photos
  Sub Folder - Dan
  Sub Folder - Sara
We put Dan as a keyword on all his photos and Sara on all of hers
Then on the main folder do a keyword search for Dan and nothing comes up. Go into his subfolder and it works.
We could just have one big folder with all of images loose in there, but that's not the best solution with multiple people putting images in there
What am I doing wrong.
Thanks for any insight.

You should use the find command (cmd F) for this. Select keyword as criteria and be sure to check the option 'include subfolders'.
You need to cache the folders first tlo get the most out of the speed for finding and the folders should all be in one main folder like pictures or so.
Also be aware that Bridge on a server is not always a success and keep in mind that you are in fact looking for a Digital Asset Management system and DAM is not the best feature Bridge has to offer

  • Keyword search across multiple folders

    Is it possible to do keyword searches across multiple folders and drives in Bridge CS3? On disk I have organised my images by geographical location, but want to keyword them and search for them by theme. This will cut across several drives each with numerous folders and sub-folders. All the drives, folders and sub-folders are on the same pc, which is a stand alone machine and not networked.

    With Bridge it will search multiple folders on the same drive, but don't think you can search across multiple drives (I read you can with Lightroom).
    The search goes down the directory tree starting where you tell it. So therefore, start high enough to include all folders you want to look in.
    If you have Vista you could search across multiple drives if they are indexed. Advanced search allows multiple keywords (tags), and it is very fast, much faster than Bridge.

    Is it possible to search for multiple folders with the same name and then select them all and change the permissions on just those folders .i.e. Search for the budget folders in all client folders and lock them down to just the project managers. Without having to go to each folder and apply the permissions.

    Hi Mapper99,
    If you mean the following search:
    You may click on the search icon on the top of the message list, then it will show out like the picture above, you could choose to search in the current folder, or you may choose All folders as listed.
    It is almost the same settings in Windows 8.1, you may follow this guide for the other options:

    I have an issue with customer where they are doing a key word search on 3 words and not pulling the data since all the 3 words are not matched.If we try to do a search with 2 matching words it pulls up the data.
    Its in iRecruitment Vacancy search feature which uses Oracle text.
    How to do Keyword search with multiple words for an AND and OR Condition.

    From Technet:
    Role-based administration does not support an explicit deny action on security roles, security scopes, or collections assigned to an administrative
    user. Instead, configure security roles, security scopes, and collections to grant permissions to administrative users. If users do not have permissions to objects by use of these role-based administration elements, they might have only partial access to some
    objects, for example they might be able to view, but not modify specific objects. However, you can use collection membership to exclude collections from a collection that is assigned to an administrative user.

  • Search with multiple criteria

    I have searched high and low on the internet o find a way to
    do a search through multple fields but the more I lookthe more i
    get confused. here is the problem. i want to do a search where the
    user can input a data element and select the matching type and
    display he results.below is the code that i have for my search
    page, but I am confused about the more important parts of the fom -
    the actual search variables.
    If you look t the code below you see that I have a test field
    named "recordID" and a drop down list named "select".
    I want to dispay the results in which 'recordID' looks in
    table thatis equal to 'select'.
    an example of what I want is at the following link.

    As for the Prof's requirements, the form submits two values,
    a recordID=20
    and a selection to either search by company or by store
    number.
    If Prof has a table named company and another named store
    number, the=20
    way you'd search these tables would be to have another table
    that=20
    contains the selectcategories with a column containing the
    values=20
    "company" and "storeNumber" along with ID columns that relate
    to a=20
    categoryID column in the companies table and the storeNumber
    column in=20
    the Stores table. Using this relationship Prof can create a
    reccordset=20
    on his results page that returns the values using an INNER
    JOIN to=20
    combine the tables in the recordset. Similarly by
    constructing the=20
    relationships properly as to his records (let's say he's
    searching 45RPM =
    singles - anybody remember those thingies?) His company table
    can have=20
    an ID column that references his product table where a
    companyID is=20
    stored. Again, a JOIN statement is used to include the
    product=20
    information, including the ProductID in the Recordset.
    Similarly for the =
    Stores table, again, the Products table has a column that
    identifies the =
    store that carries that productID. If more than one store
    carries the=20
    product, the column should be a storesID column that
    references a=20
    ProductStores table which references the stores that carry
    the product=20
    by a common ID. Again, using the JOIN (this recordset query
    would get=20
    complex) the necessary data can be returned.
    The DataAssist Search Server Behavior applies a sophisticated
    WHERE=20
    clause to the recordset. so that the requested records can be
    returned=20
    to the page. Prof is not needing a tool to build database
    management, so =

  • Will lightroom search multiple folders and subfolders for keywords?

    Will lightroom search multiple folders and subfolders for keywords?

    Yes, if you select the folders in the explorer pane to the left in library mode,

  • Filter on keyword across multiple "folders"

    It is clear that I can filter for specified keyword within a "folder."
    This does not provide much convenience, it seems to me. I want to locate images with a given keyword across a large number of "folders" including even my entire C: drive. I must be missing something, because there is little advantage if filtering for a specified keyword is limited to what you might see in the thumbnails on the Bridge screen.
    I nearly always store my images by date, with the "folder" name being the date taken. I plan to use Bridge to assign multiple keywords to all my images stored on my computer, a tedious chore, but one that I can do a bit at one time; say one day's shooting per day until I eventually catch up with several years of shooting.
    There must be some functionality that I am ignorant of which allows the user to filter on all, repeat all, images tagged, for example, "Sarah." I have tried searching the FAQs and have failed to find the answer. I have tried highlighting a couple of "folders" but the "filter" functionality is not available as far as I can tell. Please tell me what I must do to exploit the Filter functionality across multiple "folders."

    I much appreciate the very useful information from Sergei Urlof, and I am using it. But I could use even more information, to speed up what I am trying to do. I want to know some efficient work flow procedures for using the keyword functionality.
    I want to tag every appropriate image file that I have in storage with the name of the persons pictured. I see that when I open a folder in Bridge, and follow the File/File Info route, I can assign a keyword to the file, or more keywords if I use a comma. I see that the keywords I assign are shown on the bottom right side of screen. I see that if I open a different folder, the keywords are carried over, and I can locate/highlight other files with a particular person pictured, and can assign a keyword by clicking in the box by the keyword. This saves me the steps involved in File/File Info and typing in a keyword that is already in the list shown bottom right.
    HOWEVER, as soon as I close that particular Bridge session, I lose that list, or at least so it seems to me. How do I recover the list of all keywords that I have assigned previously and make them available for clicking, for use with a folder newly opened? I can imagine using variations of names for a given person as keywords, and that would lead to poor filtering. That is, I do not see a keyword-name for an image of a certain person, so I type in a name in the File/File Info Keyword box. But it is a slight variant of one I have used before; e.g., Victoria instead of Vicki. I would not use a variant if the list of previously assigned keywords were displayed.
    So, how do I bring up the previously assigned keywords, for use in a new Bridge session?

  • Search multiple folders and muiltiple files and combine to single file

     I want to search multiple folders for muliple files and combine to single file name. The files I'm searching have same format, but where named
    differently in each of there processes. Now I want to combine based upon -SearchFor .. I'm having a problem with -Filter $SearchFor
    Code:
    Function Search-Files{
    Param([String[]]$Locations,[String[]]$SearchFor, $AppendTo)
    Begin
    If(-Not (Test-Path $AppendTo)){New-Item $AppendTo -ItemType File -Force}
    Process
    ForEach($Location in $Locations)
    $Files = Get-ChildItem -Path $Location -Filter $SearchFor -Recurse
    ForEach($File in $Files)
    Get-Content -Path $FIles.FullName | Out-File $AppendTo -Append
    End{}
    Search-Files -Locations "\\servera\public\t1\usa\saleshist\","\\serverb\public\t2\usa\saleshist\",-SearchFor "dodetail-cm.txt","somstr.txt",-AppendTo "\\virt1\Saleshist_data_load_files\saleshdr.load.csv"

    I think you might want to use -Include instead of -Filter.  Your -Include parameter accepts wildcards, i.e. *.docx or *somstr.txt
    Your command to actually append the content should be:
    Get-Content -Path $File.FullName | Out-File $AppendTo -Append
    You had $Files.FullName which might behave unexpectedly, if at all.
    Your actual command has several issues.
    Search-Files -Locations "\\servera\public\t1\usa\saleshist\","\\serverb\public\t2\usa\saleshist\" -SearchFor "dodetail-cm.txt","somstr.txt" -AppendTo "\\virt1\Saleshist_data_load_files\saleshdr.load.csv"
    You had commas following the lists of locations and searchfor terms, did that even work? Without seeing your source files or your target file I can only advise you so much, but ideally you would import-csv and export-csv.  Depending on the contents,
    you may be able to get away with get-content and out-file though.
    I hope this post has helped!

  • Search multiple folders for files with same name and create single file

     I have a project where I need to search multiple folders for a file name and when found append data from each file to a single input file.
     Example
    root folder to start search
    \\servera\sales
    \\servera\it\salesa\cmmstr.txt
    \\servera\it\salesb\cmmstr.txt
    \\servera\it\salesc\cmmstr.txt
     I need to create a a single cmmstr.txt on the root folder. I would like it to be able to run this with parms to pass in folders to search and file names to search and single file name to create. I'm going to have a least 10 differnt files to
    search for and create output file for. The folders to search
    will somewhat be static.
     Thanks.

    I tested this out on my own seat and I think it should work for you. I wrote it as a function, all you have to do is pass the root folders you want to search and the file your looking for. The function will then search that directory and all sub directories
    for that file name. you will also have to provide it a file to append to, if the file dosen't exists the function will create it. If you run into an issues let me know and the links Mike
    Laughlin posted are a great resource.
    Function Search-Files{
    Param([String[]]$Locations, $SearchFor, $AppendTo)
    Begin
    If(-Not (Test-Path $AppendTo)){New-Item $AppendTo -ItemType File -Force}
    Process
    ForEach($Location in $Locations)
    $Files = Get-ChildItem -Path $Location -Filter $SearchFor -Recurse
    ForEach($File in $Files)
    Get-Content -Path $FIles.FullName | Out-File $AppendTo -Append
    End{}
    Search-Files -Locations "\\Server1\c$\Temp", "\\Server1\c$\Test1" -SearchFor "Install.cmd" -AppendTo "C:\Temp\Search.log"

  • How to Search Multiple Folders?

    I am using a new machine with 10.7.2 Lion and I'm unable to do something I used to do on 10.4.11 Tiger, that is, search multiple folders simultaneously in Finder. To be clear, in a Finerd window, I was able to hit command-f and the current folder name would appear along with a button that said "Others." Clicking that would allow me to select any number of additional folders to include in my search. There isn't an "Others" button in Lion! What happened? Did the Lion developers get Lost?

    Greg,
    There's one way of doing this that's even easier than before.
    Use a Spotlight Search, one of the best OSX features ever. Simply press CMD-space, and you'll get a small window. Type in your search criteria, and Spotlight will automatially list all of the hits on your computer - without even pressing enter.
    If you're searching, say, using Safari, CMD-F will let you search for all the hits on the site you're on, and highlight them. Press Enter to cycle through the hits, if you have any.
    Otherwise, use Spotlight for your system search needs.

  • Select Multiple Folders for Keywording

    I'm trying to select multiple folders in the catalog simultaneously in order to add the same Keywords to all of the photos in all of the selected folders without having to do it folder by folder. But although the folders are shown as selected in Navigator, nothing shows up in the main view, and the Keywords section is grayed out. Is there any way of doing this?

    Hm... Lightroom remembers filter setting individually for each folder and even for group of folders. So, even if you can see pictures in one folder and see pictures in the other folder, it could be that a combination of both has a filter applied.
    Try unchecking
    i Enable Filters
    from the Library menu while you have multiple folders selected.

  • Quick searching by multiple keywords

    Hi,
    Just a quick question. I don't seem to be able to search for multiple keywords through the quicksearch input (on the top right of the browser window). If I put in one keyword it works like a charm, but if I enter two (with either spaces or commas between) no results will show up.
    If I use the search HUD I can select multiple keywords or even add multiple text filters and type the keywords into them and it works.
    Is it only possible to search for one keyword through a quicksearch, or is there something I'm missing?
    Thanks!

    I haven't seen this anywhere else, and I just
    discovered it yesterday: If you type in several
    keywords separated by commas, it will search all the
    images in the folder/album/project that have all the
    specified keywords. No need to bring up the search
    HUD and click on individual keywords. It's been a big
    time saver for me when trying to narrow down a search.
    That's a nice little trick! Thanks for sharing.

  • Multiple Keyword Searching

    I am having trouble doing multiple keyword searches in aperture. Say for instance I tagged a photo with the word "Bob" and then with the word "Park". If I search for just Bob or just Park, I get all photos tagged with one or the other keyword. But if type into the keyword search bar: Bob, Park. No photos come up. I have tried several different ways of searching keywords. Anyone having the same problem or know how to fix it?

    The same is written in the [Aperture3 User Manual|http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter =14%26section=7%26tasks=true]; it doesn't work in Ap3 either. (The comma seems to be taken a literal character, not as a separator.)
    Ap3 lets one add additional filter rules, so that one could have two Text rules. (I never used Ap2.)
    Ap3 limits the keyword list to those keywords present in the currently selected container(s). So to at least check what you are doing -- if Ap2 does the same -- select or filter to a number of images with just a handful of keywords total, and see what you find out.
    Nice to see the sun for once.
