Keyword Tags with Vietnamese Letters

Hi all of you! I am new in the forum.
I am using Organizer in PSE 12. I have many Vietnamese friends and their names are something like Nguyễn Văn Tuấn or Đặng Bằng Kiều and so on.
Try tagging the photos with their names, but Keyword Tags using these letters do not display right what they should be.
Which Font does Organizer use for display? Does anybody know how to chage the Font in Organizer? to Myriad Pro for example?

Private keyword tags with synonyms exported?

With Lightroom 3.4.1, is there a known issue with private keyword tags being exported? I have some tags that have "Include on Export" unchecked, and I never check "Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierarchy." Even so, I've seen them in the exported files. It seems to be ones that have Synonyms.

Lost Keyword Tags with updating files after PSE 13 install

When I updated my PSE 11 catalog after installing PSE 13, I lost some of the Tag categories. In particular, they were the ones that PSE 11 had shown as Imported Keyword Tags. Is there any way to recapture these order Tag Categories?

Write keyword tag information into your files

Hi!
I have just installed Photoshop Elements10 and a problem has occured!
When writing keyword tag information into files the letters Å, Å and Ö creates problems.
If you for example try to add the tag "Montören" the result is that the word is written two times in the file properties, including once with weird characters, Example: Montören; MontÃ¶ren;.I have tried with different tags that includes letters Å, Ä and Ö and I allways get the same result. I have a Swedish version of Photoshop Elements10.
Can someone advise me on what to?

How did you originally create your tag? For testing, I just created an Instant Keyword Tag containg the letters ÅÄ by copying and pasting pasting the characters from the Character Map, assigned it to a photo, wrote the tag to the file.
The letters do display correctly in the Organizer afterward. Same in IPTC info in IrfanView.

Use of Keyword tags in shared photo files

Let's suppose, first off, that I have assigned person keyword tags to most of the photos in my catalog. Let us also suppose that I have explicitly written those tags to the photo files. Now, I would like to be able to share both the files and the keyword tags with family and friends so that they too can easily access files taken in a specific location or including a specific person. Short of buying a copy of PSE 9 for each (an act of generosity I can not afford), how do I share the information about these photos in a way that is accessible to someone not dedicated to, say, writing XSL code or something equally elaborately mind boggling?
I am running Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 on an iMac running OS X 10.65

OK, I'm a certified idot! I found the tag button, and all of the tags are there, Admittedly without spaces, but they work nicely.

CAN YOU COPY KEYWORD TAGGING HIERARCHY FROM ONE CATALOG TO ANOTHER?

I use PSE 9 and I HAVE SO MANY PICTURES THAT THE ORGANIZER RUNS SLOW. I want to split into 2 or 3 catalogs and use the same keyword tagging hierarchy in each catalog. I know how to write the tags to the picture files but when I do that and then load the split of pictures into a new catalog, all the tags are alpha without the the sub-catagory hierarchy that I'd set up in the original catalog. Can I get the same tagging in each catalog and/or start a new catalog that has the same keyword tag hierarchy?

In your old catalog:
Show the Keyword Tags panel.
Click the green plus sign.
Choose "Save Keyword Tags to File".
In your new catalog, before importing any photos, repeat steps 1 & 2, then choose "From File". That will import your keyword tags with the hierarchy intact.

Will Export Keyword Tags

Hello,
I am using Lightroom 2.6 and have noticed what seems to be a new option in Keyword Tags, i.e. Will Export. I cannot find any reference to this through Lightroom help or The Adobe Lightrooom 2 Book. Can anyone tell me what this tag does?

How Do I Sort a Group of Photos on the Same Page with the same Keyword Tag?

I want to group similar photos on the same page with the same keyword tag. I have tried dragging and dropping without any success. Can anyone help?

Create an album, then search using a keyword. Select all the photos produced by the search and drag them into the album.
You can drag photos into any order in Albums and they remain in your chosen order.

In PSE 11, is it possible to associate a KEYWORD PLACE Tag with a pin marker on the PLACES map?

I would like to be able to tag a photo (ie: many photos at one time) with a KEYWORD tag for a place and then be able to find those photos on the map under the PLACES tab.

It can be done but it’s not very intuitive.
1. Click Places and select an existing pin on the map, say with 20 photos which will get highlighted.
2. Switch to Media tab and keeping the original selection highlighted you then select the other photos, say five new images you wish to include (use ctl+click)
3. Click the add places button and when the Add Places dialog opens click the menu icon top right and choose deselect all.
4. Select the new photos using ctrl+click (the ones without the white icon top right of thumbnails) and drag to the pin. The number will increase to 25 in this example then click Done.

Finding images with keyword tags in PE 12 Organizer

I am experiencing difficulties while finding images with keyword tags.
I am using the Organizer of Photoshop Element 12 (French version) and I think I follow the procedure described in “ADOBE ELEMENTS ORGANIZER Help and tutorials” (page 168 in the English version or alternatively 150 in the French one), i.e. :
In the Keyword Tags panel, I click the ">" symbol of the keyword of which I want to know the relevant images
Whatever the search option (Select either Hide Best Match Results Show/Hide Close Match Results, or Show/Hide Results That Do Not Match), I am not able to select and show only the Best Match Results.
Please note also that the Tip
To automatically display close matches after a search, choose Edit > Preferences > General, or Adobe Elements Organizer 11 > Preferences > General, and select Show Closely Matching Sets For Searches, and then click OK.
does not seem to work with Adobe Elements Organizer 12

Based on your comment, I am afraid it’s one of the recurring problem in PE whatever the version (PE11 or PE12)

Bizarre behavior with Keyword Tags and their check marks

I'm using LR v1.1. I ran into a bizarre situation today, but don't know how I got into it or how it finally was resolved.
I wanted to view all my photos in the Library view. Under the section "Keyword Tags" there were already check marks in in front of some keywords. I couldn't find a way to uncheck the check mark in front of them (which evidently only shows up on Intel Macs as mine). It seemed (and I could be wrong) that if I clicked on a check mark to try to remove it, a check mark suddenly appeared in front of a *different* keyword(!)
I also couldn't find a way to have no keyword selected at all.
Finally the checkmarks and the selection of the keyword tags disappeared, but I don't know the cause or the cure of this.
I'm on a MacPro with OS 10.4.10 with 6 GB RAM and just 1,300+ photos in my LR Library so far.

The check marks indicate the selected photos have those keywords. They are not selectable, the keywords are.

Find images with parent keyword tag only?

I don't know how to describe this problem succinctly, so I don't know how to search for it in the knowledgebase or forums. Can anybody help?
I want a keyword hierarchy with "US" as parent keyword of 50 states name keywords. I have many images with state keywords, but I also have some images that are tagged only with "US" but no state tag, as they are not specific to a state.
How do I *easily* find only the images tagged "US" but with no state tags? Clicking on "US" in the keyword panel shows me all images tagged with "US" and all with state tags, but I just want the ones tagged "US".
I can use "Find" to find "US" images NOT CONTAINING "AL AK AR AS AZ..." by enumerating all 50 states, but that's a terribly awkward way filter out images tagged with state names. I can't see a button or filter that shows only the images with a parent tag but without child tags
Any ideas?

John, this seemed like a great idea. I tried it, and it seemed to work. There was an immediate problem because when there are lots of keywords it means a lot of scrolling and it can be hard to locate rail among rain rate rails etc. because the font is so small. A second problem was that you are forced to mouse scroll - cant page down or up or use home or end. That can be a lot of scrolling. a third problem is that it seems you have to reselect flat view each time.
a more serious problem is that it seems to have stopped working. I'm not quite sure what i did but i have a keyword verb with 5 items and about 1125 child keywords (such as to sing to run etc.) for 1125 photos i click on the verb arrow in the keywords so i bring up 1125 pictures of verbs. now i go to metadata switch to flat view. i can now see "verb" as a keyword in the metadata panel, but when i click on it, nothing happens - I still have 1125 selected photos. Furthermore i cannot click on any other keyword in the metadata panel - that is nothing happens when i click. if I return it to hierarchical view it is fine. then Lightroom 4 64-bit stopped working. when i restarted the program it was still in flat view and i was now able to click on the metadata panel and see appropriate collections. then it stopped working again after i clicked on the keyword panel (but did not actually select anything). in total i have about 3000 keywords and about 100000 photos on local and network drives. it looks to me like flat view has some serious problems, but perhaps its something i am doing....
i also have to say that even if it worked perfectly, i still might prefer other solutions because scrolling up and down for 3000 keywords can be tedious - its difficult to prevent overshooting and undershooting the mark. if the keyword and metadata panels could be undocked that would probably be a big help.

Two problems :
1 - You can't merge catalogs in PSE
2 - The usual workaround is to 'write metadata to files', export the files and 'get' them into the other catalog. But you can't write metadata to files with video files.
The only thing you could do would be to duplicate the catalog and delete all pictures other than your ninety videos...

Copy File From One Drive to Another & Missing Keyword Tags

Hi,
I use LR 2.7. I want to copy one file from one drive to another drive with the same file name. I thought you could drag the file, but it doesn't copy over the file in the other drive, can you explain what I have to do?
Also, I tried to import the folder into another drive, but it doesn't copy the keyword tags. Is there a way to do this?

Hey Barb,
Well, if you use the Year/Month/Day/pictures_here format, none of the folders contains a massive amount of folders. It's not the number of folders that generates problems, it's having them all in _one_ folder that creates slow-down issues. Imagine if you had a deck of cards; look for one card... you have to go through all 52 cards to find it. But, if you broke it down into the 4 groups, you only have to go through 13, which is lots faster. Now imagine going through 15000 instead of 52...
Look at the way lightroom can automatically import by date; it has several preset formats. If you pick one of those, then when you import new photos, it will automatically create any missing ones, and you have lots less to do.
Depending on how much work you have already done, you might consider making a new catalog and just importing all of your photos again, and let it create everything quickly for you.
You could save all of your "edit" changes by writing out all of the xmp files first. But with 15000 files in one directory, this will double it to 30000 (one per image!), but will preserve all of your edits if you choose to make a new catalog approach.
As for combing catalogs, once you have one catalog the way you want it, you can select "import from catalog" and it will suck it into a new one, thus combining the catalogs. The only problem I can see is that it will import it in the format you already have it, so you have to organize it manually before you import it. Otherwise, you'll get your old format and your new format in the one catalog (but can then move pictures around if you need to).
Personally, I'd go the 'write xmp files, create new catalog' approach. Then just recreate my collections, etc.
But either way you do it, it will take some time processing, as that's a lot of files to start with!
