Keyword visual placement

How do I reset iphoto so that my keywords appear below each photo.  It is very cumbersome to have to click on each photo to see if I've keyed a photo to a keyword or not.  I used to be able to scan my recent imports and assign keywords very easily.  The new update has turned this into a chore,  I miss the functionality and cannot figure out how to get it back other than reverting to older version of iphoto.  Does it exist in another form?

The ability to see the multiple keywords under the photo in the last import was a very valuable functionality that is truly missed.
That might be one reason to upgrade to Aüerture in the long run. Being able to cusomize exactly what is displayed in the Browser below the photos or in other views is one of the strong points of Aperture vs. iPhoto. Migration would be easy - simply open your iPhoto lbraries in Aperture.

As a workaround - you might consider to add important keyword text to the title of your photo. This you will see below the photo in the browser.
You can also use the title text in smart albums with rules like: "Title contains key1"

  • Editor fails to visually place image on page, but actually does

lmages will only appear after publishing or updating the post and sometimes only after doing that and refreshing the who page. I have clients placing the image 4 or 5 times trying to get to work, when it actually is, but just not showing. This is something that is occurring with only a few sites not all editors.

    Hi Liam
YES! The old one was failing. I went to the SITE SETTINGS > BETA FEATURES and enabled the new editor and it now works on ALL browsers. The old one didn't work on SAFARI and CHROME, but it did work on FIREFOX. So we are all good. Cheers.

  • Keyword Tags Won't Delete

I am using Lightroom 1.4.1 on a Vista platform.<br /><br />When I delete keyword tags they disappear temporarily, only to reappear later. I have tried the Purge Unused Keywords function and I have tried to right click the keyword and select Delete. In all cases they seem to be deleted, but reappear later.<br /><br />I have removed the keywords in question from any photos they were applied to, so all the keywords that I'm trying to delete show 0 images.<br /><br />Here is a sample of the keywords: <component; <place; <worklist. Could the "<" sign in the keyword name be the problem? I have tried to rename the keywords, thus removing the "<" from the name, but they still keep coming back.<br /><br />Some more info which may be important in resolving this. These keyword names appear to have been created by Lightroom itself of Photoshop CS3 (V10.0). I originally had keywords enclosed in brackets, eg <place>. When I edited the images with the Develop module and Photoshop, once I returned to the Library module the edited image would have the system created keyword, eg <place (without the closing bracket). In other words I now had two keywords for the same thing: <place> and <place.

Tried the throw away top level key word idea as you suggested, but it didn't resolve the problem. I also deleted the 'dud' keywords from Bridge and Windows Photo Gallery and then went back to Lr and tried the suggestion again. It still didn't work. There are 3 dud keywords that keep reappearing in Windows Photo Gallery, despite having been deleted. It's amazing how all but three seem to have gone for good from Windows Photo Gallery. What makes the three persistent ones special, I have no idea.
What's puzzling is that once I've deleted the dud keywords and then export my keywords to a text file, the text file is 'clean'; like they've gone from Lr. However, when they reappear and I export my keywords again to a text file, they show up in the text file.
It like they're hiding away in the image files or some database in such a way that I can't access them and when I edit or rename a 'good' keyword it causes Lr to re-read the image file or database and import the keywords. This, despite that fact that none of the dud keywords show up in the metadata for any of my images as displayed by Lr; eg in the Keywording panel on the right. They also no longer show up in Bridge or Windows Photo Gallery (except for 3). Furthermore, all the dud keywords show '0' for the number of images they're assigned to.
By the way, I've also tried the Purge Unused Keywords function to no avail.

  • IPhoto Keyword Search Not Functioning Correctly

I'm finally getting around to organizing my 20,000+ photos in iPhoto. I am attaching keywords to the individual pictures and have noticed something very curious: When I go to iPhoto's search box and type in a keyword, often many pictures that are not tagged with that keyword are returned.
For example, I can type in the keyword "sign" and pictures from my wedding are returned as though they contain this keyword. I've double-checked the picture filenames, descriptions, faces, keywords, and places, and nowhere do I see the word "sign" associated with these photos.  It happens with other keywords I enter into the search box, too.  Totally unrelated photos - sometimes lots of them - are returned, rendering the whole process relatively ineffective.
Does anyone know why this is happening?
TIA for any assistance. I'm frustrated, having spent all this time associating keywords to my photos, only to have the keyword search option not effectively work for me!

I understand why the text search for sign brings up the Surround Sound Signs photos as it's just a text search.
Might be database corruption.  Try this: make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • Keyword problems in 3.3...

Trying to move a keyword from a nested catagory to the root in the Keyword HUD. In previous versions of Aperture, when you dragged the keyword outside of the list of keywords, but still inside of the HUD itself, a white rectangle would appear around all of the keywords indicating that if you release the mouse, the keyword would be moved to the root.
Now in 3.3 this no longer works. If the keyword list is short, and you have empty space at the bottom of the HUD, it works, but if your list is long, then it does not.
    Anyone else having this issue?
Also, someone told me that with some plugin-ins/apps, if you make a roundtrip out of Aperture and back in again, that keywords which are in nested groups will get duplicated and put at the root of the list. I have not noticed this behaviour and wonder if anyone else has seen it and if so, which plug-ins/apps cause this to happen.
    Thank you !

    Just solved my problem !!!
Thanks to a tip in the now defunct Bagelturf website (available thru the Wayback Machine here: http://bit.ly/KzMBEv)  the solution is simple and elegent:
Simply type the term in the search box at the top of the HUD. This will shorten the lenght of the list, allowing you to drag the keyword down and have the white highlight appear around the entire list.
Still curious if anyone has an issue with nested keywords being place at the root....

  • Filter by selecting keywords from the keyword panel, AND-rule

    Hello,
I'd like to have an option to use the AND-rule when selecting multiple keywords from the keyword panel.
For example, if I had the following keyword hierarchy:
    - Places
    - London
    - New York
    - Subjects
    - Car
    - Buildings
Now, if I'd like to see cars photographed in New York, I need to go to the find panel and enter the keywords there. If I select multiple keywords from the keyword pane (ctrl-click keywrods "New York" and "Car"), I get all photos from New York and all photos of cars. What I'd like to have is a switch (check box) in the preferences-dialog (*) to chance this behavior to use the AND rule, so that selecting multiple keywords from the keyword panel would result into showing only those photos that have ALL of the keywords, instead ANY of them as it is now.
(*): or perhaps even in the keyword panel as a sort of small icon, like the "add keyword" (plus sign) and "remove keyword" (minus sign) icons.

I would love to see a better solution for keyword matching too. Imagine if we could have the power of regular expressions!
At least we could use parenthesis (for grouping), ampersands (&) for "and", and plus (+) for "or." Wildcards would be nice too, and while we're at it, exclamation mark (!) for "not." Consider the following construct.
    ((dave & aileen) + (bonnie & steve)) & !pete
    Reads like this:
Both dave and aileen, or both bonnie and steve, but in either case, not pete.
Or you could change it like this:
    ((dave + aileen) & ! pete) + (shannon & dane)
Reads like this: Either dave or aileen but not pete, or shannon and dane.
For even greater power, allow us to store and edit frequent search terms. Then I could easily come up with some elaborate search term, and re-use it later, or change it in some small way for later.
It would be even better if all this were part of a total metadata search. How about:
    (keyword:dave + keyword:aileen) & (year:2008 & location:US|California|Los Angeles|Home)
Maybe this is getting to be too complex for casual use, but it really could be quite powerful for searching those catalogs of 10000+ pictures.

  • Clips moving visually when zoomed in with mouse movement

    Hello,
I am experiencing a glitch with the visual placement of the clips in Final Cut Pro X.
When I zoom in to the maximum level, the audio and video clips move visually. I can therefore not determine their exact alignment. When I move the mouse over the clips (a physical mouse by Logitech) without touching any other controls, the clips stutter around, and shift their apparent location.
I am using a brand new, maxed-out iMac and have restarted the program, and computer several times. This happens in all of my projects and not just the project in which I first noticed the problem.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?

I am glad the problem was solved. My guess is that the update included a new driver for the graphics card that may have solved some bugs.

  • Place a photo into a book older that 12 months

I assembling photos from a 6 year period and put them in an album. then I used that album to create a book. now I want to add a photo I forgot but the tap only shows me the album and the last 12 months. How do I place a picture that;s older?

Remember that we can not see what you are doing so correct terminology is critical so we both understand each other
I open the folder with the photo I want.
Folders in iPhoto do not hold photos - folders hold other folders or albums - never photos
you can drag from photos view, event view or an album
If you open the photo in the event or album does it open up?
Try renewing your iPhoto preference file -
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Keyword hierarchy, nesting, and labels

I have keyword hierarchies set up.  I utilize the drag and drop method of keywording.
Is there a way to tell Lightroom to keyword the nested(above) keywords to the photo I am keywording?
    In other words:
I have an 'adirondaks' keyword.  this is nested below 'places' 'united states' 'new york'.  If I drag and drop the photos onto adirondaks, then only that keyword shows up, and not the places, united states, new york, also.
There has to be a way to do this...  right?

Given your example, let's suppose the following keyword hierarchy:
    Places
    ---United States
    -----New York
    --------Adirondaks
    -----California
    --------San Diego
    --------San Francisco
Only the bottom keywords of a keyword hierarchy should be used to tag a photo. From the above example, that would be 'Adirondaks', 'San Diego' or 'San Francisco'. The higher level keywords will not show in the keyword tags of the photos but will be inherited for searching. You could therefore filter on New York and it will bring you all the pictures of the Adirondaks, or filter on Californa and all photos tagged with San Diego and San Francisco will be in the selection. Finally, if you filter on United States, you will see all photos tagged with the bottom keywords of all sub hierarchy under United States, in this case Adirondaks, San Diego and San Francisco.
If you export a photo tagged with the Adirondaks keyword, all keywords in the hierarchy will also be included in the export as long as each keyword in the hierarchy have the "Include on export" option checked.
    Hope this helps!

  • Keywording any better in 1.0?

Compared to the checklist keywording in Bridge, I've found Lightroom's drag-and-drop system, uhm, a drag.
In Bridge, you can create categories of keywords -- People, Places, Trees, etc. -- and add specific keywords within those categories -- Fred, London, Birch. You can access the list anytime, select multiple photos and simply tick a checkbox beside each keyword to add it to your selects. Fast, clean, easy. No tugging little words across the screen.
I had hoped, even assumed, Adobe would incorporate this feature into 1.0 because it's so superior (in my opinion) to dragging. But I've seen no mention of it yet. Anyone know?

Here is a keywording questions that it seems those chatting about this subject will know the answer to. Where do the keywords one assigns in Lightroom reside. In Bridge they are written into the metadata of the image file itself. So that when one keywords a file in Bridge, the keywords will be recognized by other programs that read metadata keywords. But there is so much talk about Lightroom being a database driven program that I am afraid that perhaps those keywords just reside in a Lightroom database and nowhere else. For example, if I keyword a folder full of files in Lightroom, and then open that same folder in Bridge, will the keywords still be there? Or will I have to use Lightroom forever to access them. Any light on this subject will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • Lightroom 5.3 Hierarchy in keywording.

I am using Lightroom 5.3 on Win7 x64. I am having problem during hierarchy in key wording.
As shown in A, sometimes it does auto completes but as shown in B many times it doesn’t and manual entry is needed. People have mention on adobe forum it shouldn’t be working but its working sometimes.
Anyone had same issue. – How you manage same ?

In general, when there is only one keyword with a given leaf name, LR will suppress the ancestor keywords when auto-completing and when displaying the keyword.  In your example, there are two keywords with the leaf name "AEPL", so when you're typing the keyword, autocomplete will give you the choice of selecting between the keywords ("AEPL < Places" and "AEPL < People").  But since there is just one keyword with the leaf name "Flower" ("Flower < Style"), LR supresses the ancestors ("< Style").   But when you enter "Flower", you are in fact selecting the keyword "Flower < Style".   You can verify this by selecting the image's thumbnail and then examing the Keyword List pane -- you'll see that "Style > Flower" has a checkmark next to it.

  • Moving tags from imported to People, Places & Events.

I have just started to trial PSE 13 and found out that when importing photos that have been tag into PSE 13 you cannot move any the tags into People, Places & Events. Have I missed something or has Adobe stuff this up big time. I used to be able to drag and drop in PSE 11 so why can I not do this here? I import a lot off photos that have tags on them already and I wish to put them where I want the tags.

    Hi,
This behavior is the same since PSE12. This is because, now we have different categories explicitly defined for People, Places and Events. Drag drop of tags from any of these main already defined categories <Keywords, People, Places and Events>to another is not possible now.
Now, if you want to try this workflow of yours, you can try creating People, Places and events sub categories within Keywords tag category and then you can drag drop your imported tags the way you want to organize them.
Please let me know if I failed to understand your problem.

  • Letters are doubled when typing in new place name

I have been struggling with the new way of adding places to photos in iPhoto 11 (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2623201&tstart=0). I finally figured out (more or less) how to add a new place to a photo. After a while another problem showed up, which I can't get rid of:
In the Info window of a photo, I enlarge the places window to show the map. I then start typing in a place name, but every letter I type in gets doubled (displayed twice). But when removing the double letter, the automatic search doesn't get updated, so I can't select any of my own places as they never show up. And it doesn't happen with every letter. Only the first one and every one after I have removed a doubled letter.
If I try this without the map being show, the first letter gets displayed once, but the next letters are doubled as the map is automatically shown.
The strange thing is that it didn't happen before.
I tried to restart iPhoto. Problem still exists.
I even restart my MacBook Pro (first time I had to do that regarding a software bug). Problem still exists.
I tried another photo library I have, and there it doesn't happen, so it seems to be linked to that specific photo library.
    Any suggestions?

  • Looking for best practices advice

    Hi all !!
We are planning to migrate an old application and are evaluating products, tools and frameworks. I've just finished the Netbeans tutorial at
    http://www.netbeans.org/kb/55/vwp-inserts_updates_deletes.html
The application is not too complex but it's not trivial either, and we need to develop it as a web application, but in its behavior it's more like a classic desktop application.
In the tutorial the CRUD operations are performed by data providers associated to visual components like tables, but we need to manipulate data by program.
So after finishing the tutorial I've created some entity beans with Hibernate and now I'm trying to use them within the sample tutorial. For example a "Process" button which extract data from many tables an insert into others.
I'm sure it will work, but I feel that I'm not using the proper techniques, like avoiding so much behavior in a button event handler. I would like to separate in tiers, have the SQL in stored procedures, etc.
Even the turorial has SQL code embedded in the data providers.
What would you advice me in order to get most clean code, productivity and maintanibility ??
    Thanks and cheers,
    Daniel

I've found this all answered in the Netbeans nbusers mailing list archives, basically it says Web and Visual Web Applications are different kind of projects as of yet, but will be completely merged in a near future, hopefully the upcoming NB 6 due approx. May this year.
For anyone interested in this issue I advice to search the nbusers archive for the keywords "visual web persistence" (without the quotes).
Also I acknowledge that the netbeans mailing list archives are a best place to ask this kind of questions that tis forum.
