Keywording for search engines?

I'm a real novice at tech stuff and am interested in purchasing iWeb for a photography business site. Can I do keywording with this software so that my site will be found by search engines? Is this a professional enough web program for creating a business website? Thanks.

A lot of photographers use iWeb for their sites.
Most of them make the mistake of using the iWeb Photos and Albums templates which makes the images unsearchable.
A lot are drawn to the Darkroom theme which makes for slow downloading pages.
You'll find out about this on the 4 pages starting here.....
http://roddymckay.com/PhotoSatellite/iWebPhotoTemplates.html
Keywords are added into URLs, page titles, page names, captions, text etc and there's nothing magic or technical about this - just time and effort.
You can add the essential title tags into iWeb or do it post publishing.
I'm in the process of putting together a short tutorial on SEO which I hope to publish later today.
Look for it here in a few (or more than a few) hours...

A title and maybe a meta description belong to every single
    page. But
much more important is usable and properly structured
    content.

  • Looking for search engine-like word matching

I wonder if there's any package that can do word matching along the lines of search engines.
Let's say I have two ArrayLists of Strings:
'keywords' containing the Strings to search: "one", "two" and "three"
    'match' containing the search criteria.
If 'match' contained "one" then the method would return 'true'. If 'match' contained "seven", the method would return 'false'.
Not really difficult, but the search engine syntax specifies the following:
Keywords that begin with "+" are mandatory
Keywords that begin with "-" must not be found
Keywords without prefix may be found
E.g. "+one", "+two" would return 'true', but "+one", "+four" would return 'false'. "+one", "four" would return 'true', since "four" doesn't have to be found. "+one", "+four" would return 'false', since "one" was found, but "four" was not. "-four" would return 'true', since "four" isn't part of the Strings to search. etc. etc. etc.
Does anyone know where to find a package that does this?
    Regards,
    Eric

Well, why write something if someone else has already done it? :-)
As for the searching of "four": Keywords that have a "+" or no prefix must be matched, so it returns 'false'. So it only returns 'true' if the list contains "four".
The whole point of the "+" is that if you have several keywords, the ones with "+" are mandatory, the ones without aren't.
So "+one", "+two" means "one" AND "two", whereas "one", "two" means "one" OR "two".

  • Optimizing iWeb Sites for Search Engines

Does anyone know of a way to manually adjust the meta tags in iWeb publishing in an effort to improve SEO?

Welcome to the discussions. You could try this free iWeb SEO Tool:

  • Spry optimization for search engines

I read in this post on the Dreamweaver forums (
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=12&catid=189&threadid =1272744&enterthread=y
) that data loaded by Spry is not available to search engines to
index. Is there a relatively simple way to make that data available
to the search engines? I know one poster mentioned a PHP call into
a hidden div but I am not sure how you would accomplish that. Any
    help would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone has a better suggestion of how to access my data
you can view the page in progress at
    3andband.com/TestSite/iframeTest.html
note: The menu bar is currently only a placeholder image.
Also, I am using an iframe because I need to maintain the
    persistance of the music player.
One more question, would the spry:state property be capable
of providing any sort of loading message will the content of the
iframe loads? Since it is loading spry data.
    Thanks!

  • Hidden Content for Search Engine Use

Has anyone heard of web sites having hidden layers full of
text content that they don't necessarily want on the front page but
is there so that search engines could index their site much
    better?

Are you willing to take the chance? And - why would you have
    such a thing
so far out of the main content section anyhow?
It smacks of spamming, and if you were my competitor for
    position, I'd
    report you.

  • Online .pdf documents, meta tags; title, keywords, descriptions. search engines

    Hi. In DW 8.0.
I searched the forums for this but was unable to find the answer.
I would like to have meta tags in my .pdf files that are on the web.
When someone does a search for one of them in Google or Yahoo!, it reads the title in a bizarre upper & lower case letter pattern under the search results page.
    "ExaMPLe SAMple tiTLE"
Correct me if I am wrong, but Google creates source code for .pdfs so others can search for them, but I do not understand why the title looks the way it does.
I was hoping by changing the title meta tag in the actual .pdf using Acrobat would solve this, but I am waiting to see if this will work.
Does anyone know of a better way of changing/adding the meta tags to an online .pdf document?
    Thanks.

    PDF is a print document.
    HTML is a web document.
AFAIK, meta tags are found only in web documents.
Soluiton would be to convert your PDFs to HTML pages and use your own meta tags and titles.

  • Need help for search engines

    First part:
When i type document numbers/alphabet inside the text box and
click submit, i need to download the document file based on a
select query with the doc_no and display results on my right frame.
My search_engine.cfm frame is on the left side whereas the
search_results.cfm is on the right frame. I also want the textbox
be able to recognize the input text/alphabet and output just that
particular results for the user. Total i got 10 database table,
each table name is stated with the starting number i.e tableName1:
    350v,
    tableName2: 360w,
    tableName3: 210a
AND inside each table column contains i.e DOC_NO, DATE,
    REMARKS etc.
    DOC_NO
    Whereas ROWS : 350V000
    350V001
350V002 ...(each table at least have 500 files)etc
Second part: Display results in table cells without using
paged search results. I find that making paged search results form
    is very complicated.
can ask me for my email and i will attach the codes to you.
    thanks

I'd suggest you to get thorough with JSP first and
then have a look at Jakarta Lucene.wat is Jakarta Lucene???

  • Where do I store images for search engine

    Hey guys,
Just wondering if anybody can help me with this cuz seems like all the books I have are useless.
Question: When I create something similar to facebook with user accounts and passwords where do I store individual photos? Does it have to be stored in database or webserver. If it's a database then does it have to be a separate table for images or it can be the part of the tabel with all the individual information. If its a webserver then how to make pictures to be stored in the individual folders beloning to a specific person.
None of the books available in any stores of north america talking about this staff.
    Thanks

Generally the file is stored on server, image name is stored in database. If it's just one image the filename can be stored in the same table as all other profile data. If it's multiple photos (album, etc.) the filenames need to be stored in a sperate table with user id primary key passed to new table. Webserver can create a directory of users id and store the logged in users images in their directory.

  • Keywords, what is more important search engines

Which is more important for search engines: keywords in meta
    tags, words in
title pages, words in alt tags, text on page.
I thought I had read that keywords in meta tags was being
    deprecated but I
    could be wrong.

  • How to make my site top in the search engines for a high ranking?

I am new at this, and I am planning to build a big site on iweb, but my question is where can I get information on how to make my site with high rankings? Would I have to post my site in lots of search engines, or have the hosting company help out? how do i do this?

As SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is important to you, you may want to consider alternatives to iWeb as "iWeb websites are not made to be search engine friendly" — read more here:
SEO For iWeb: How to get your iWeb Websites into Google & Other Major Search Engines
...iWeb is designed for personal sites and, as such, Apple apparently thinks there's no need for Google — you tell grandma the URL of your personal iWeb site, she painstakingly types it in and then gazes admiringly at the photos of her grandchildren.
Apple hasn't changed this approach in three iterations of iWeb but perhaps, with all the feedback it receives on this issue, there's still hope. Meanwhile, web-design apps for business sites tend to integrate search engine optimization — Sandvox Pro is an example:
    http://www.karelia.com/sandvox/getyour_site_noticed_andb.html
Another advantage of Sandvox is that, when viewing your site in Safari, the text increase & decrease commands will work — they don't work for an iWeb-created site. ...For business use, it's important that customers don't turn away from your site because they consider your text too small to read.
However, if you still really want to use iWeb, this article may help:

By the way, for more info about SEO in general, this blog of a web-design app (Yola) recently started a multi-part series on the subject — the first is here:

  • Optimising video for web search engine results

I have little experience of producing video, so by default I have little experience or knowledge of premier... so I am here to ask a question on the back of a conversation I have just had with a client who is fairly video savvy, but not entirely premier pro savvy.
He is under the impression that premier pro has a facility to be able to analyse the content of a video and then automatically create a metadata file which can then be utilised for search engine ranking. Is this so? Has premier pro got this capability?
    Thanks in advance.
    Mat

    > Is that what's being asked for, though?  I understood the OP wants
Google to scan the video itself for metedata and use that for rankings.
Yep. The tutorials that I linked to show how to embed the speech-to-text metadata in the video and then extract it for search within Flash Player.
    > Actually whether or not any Adobe app is capable of such, I think the
bigger question is can a search engine actually scan video files, or do
    they just scan web pages?
The search engine companies are all moving toward using metadata within video files, but at different speeds and with different degrees of transparency. For now, I don't think that it's much used. But the time is coming (and is already here in a minimal, primitive form.)
The reason that I then suggested using the metadata as something to put as text on an HTML page was that I thought that this might be more valuable for the current state of search engine technology.
