Keywords added to new files....

I am not sure about the origin of this behaviour but when I open a new file it already has a group of keywords that I have used in the past.
I am unable to determine where I can turn this behaviour off.
I generally move the images from flash drive to hard drive then import into Lightroom. However, I think these keywords were originally created in Bridge and at one time I used this list of keywords for a specific group of files.
Now, I can't turn off this automatic application of keywords.
Using CS3 and LR2.
Thank you for any thoughts and info!

Hi Curt,
Thank you for your reply. After posting, I searched everywhere for the source of those keywords. I finally found that I had earlier created metadata template in LR...that template was using those keywords.
As is often the case with me, I was learning LR "on the fly"...just before my daughter's wedding. LR was a lifesaver but, as you can see, I may have forgotten more than I learned.
In any case, I appreciate your help and maybe this will help someone else. I just had to go into LR and edit that template, along with making some manual keyword adjustments.
These forums are so helpful, wish I could contribute more...
Thank you, Curt.

  • Adding a new file to a book

    FM 8
    Just so you know, it's been three years since I used FrameMaker, I'm a journeyman at best. I've checked the help, it's not telling me what I need. I've inherited a project in FM, a book with, so far, 10 chapters, several appendices. I need to add a new chapter. Since it's been awhile, do I need to create the chapter before adding it to the book? Adding a file to the book gives me something FM won't open. If I select File > New > Document, it wants to know what template. I have no clue, it's probably not attached to the project and therefore unavailable. Someone else created the original, I've been hired to do updates. Guess I could copy a file, rename it, repalce the data with the new data, but it seems like that's a tad convoluted. I'd rather do it the easy (preferably correct) way.
    Assistence appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Jo Byrd

    I tried an update and it didn't work. I may have to contact the guy who set it up (he explained some of the workings in the book and the individual files to me). It's set up with a ChapNum variable, so it SHOULD (operative word!) work. But then, he's a guru and did a lot of cool things that leave this journeyman scratching her head.
    I knew all this a LOT better three years ago when I was working in FrameMaker! Too many Word docs and help files since then.
    Thanks, Arnis!

  • Ipod touch 4's files are deleted whenever i add a new file into it through itunes (the files i have on my ipod touch aren't in my itunes before hand) and i don't know what to do to keep these files from being erased. PLEASE HELP :(

    my ipod touch 4th generation has files that i didnt back up because i didnt know i was supposed to. the when i tried to add one new file to my EMPTY itunes, all files are deleted, yes because i know i didnt back the files up and the files on my ipod arent in my itunes. so i cancelled adding the new file and all files
    are back again, like i didnt press the sync button when it showed the deletion. what am i supposed to do about this? i dont want my ipod files to be deleted, i just wanna add new files freely without losing any of my old files. please help.

    You want to transfer purchases from the iPod to your iTunes account.
    Connect the device to iTunes but do not sync.
    Select File > Transfer Purchases.
    This will copy the content purchased via iTunes on the iPod to your iTunes account.

  • Folder Actions script no longer runs on new file creation

    Hope this isn't trivial.......first time posting here...hopefully in the right place.I'm not a total Mac OS X newbie...and surely no techie, either. Dabbled a wee bit with Automator and scratchin' my head on this one. Help, please!
    Any idea why folder actions not running when a new file is saved? A simple add-color-label script created in Automator was workin' fine before I did a Snow Leopard-to-Leopard downgrade clean-install & account migration from external HD (TimeMachine) backup. Folder actions are enabled and script runs only if I start it with Automator Runner. Previously, it would label the file as soon as I saved it....now it needs a manual start. Is this default behavior in Leopard? Or am I missing something or doin' something wrong? Or is this a consequence of downgrade? I was sure I had the same script workin ok in my original Leopard install - though possibly un-modified at that time.
    I have no clue why, but the new version I created recently (cpl wks ago?)worked the first time I added a new file but not thereafter...and in that instance it only labelled the file in Finder upon quitting Preview (file is a Grab saved as pdf).
    The reason for the downgrade was compatibility problems with Photoshop CS4 on SL (OS & app all updated yet crashin' at the drop of a hat) - maybe due to lack of RAM? (only 1GB). Saw quite a few posts regarding SL running CS4 problems, so now I'm back to running 10.5.8 ..again.. and PS actually runs smooth like it did before.
    Maybe these console messages are a help......or am I barkin' up the wrong tree?

    Do I need to wipe the drive again and re-install everything?
    Any help is greatly appreciated. Apologies if this seems long-winded.

    Folder Actions are set up a bit differently in Leopard (they use an AppleScript wrapper), and several actions have been updated to use new technologies available in Snow Leopard.  Looking at some of your console logs, it looks like some actions or workflows were just copied over from Snow Leopard.  When changing versions like that, you should rebuild the workflows so that they link to the correct actions, and check added actions for any dependencies (an action won't be loaded if it requires resources that are not available).
    Resaving your Folder Action workflow as a Folder Action Plug-in should do the trick.

  • New files not being copied

    I have the following workflow to backup documents to a thumb drive:
    1) Get specified files
    2) Copy Finder items (to thumb drive)
    3) View results
    I originally set this up with about 15 files. Lately, I have added some new files to the first action, but they are never copied. These files are not protected by the File Vault and all disk permissions have been repaired. I cannot figure out why these newer files will not copy.
    Thanks for all your assistance.

    I just put View Results in and figured out the problem. When one of the files was added, the path was empty (I'm not sure how that happened). As a result, all files in the list "below" that file, were not copied. I fixed the path and now it works fine.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Adding new files to the existing Keyword Collections

    Hi,
    I have been using Keyword Collections as folders when importing files - not sure if there is a "normal" way of creating folders for clips/audio/other files?
    Anyway, when I start a project and import a folder with a few files, I create  Keyword Collection. Later on, when I add more files into that folder in Finder and try to import the same folder as keyword collection again, the "new" files will not be assigned with that keyword collection. They're thrown straight into the event and the keyword collection only shows files from the first import.
    In other words, having a Keyword Collection created when importing a folder - is there a way to assign more files to it later on? Sorry if it's a stupid question.
    Thanks,
    Kamil

    YYou can drag them into the keyword collection once you've imported them. Another simple way is to pick up the files in the Finder, use Cmd-tab to switch to FCP, and drag them directly to the collection. The clips will import using your import preference.

  • Keywords - inadvertently added when synching files

    Using Lightroom 2.6 in x64 Vista
    Let me explain my problem:
    When I move files from camera to disk I put them in folders named:
    09 05 12
    09 08 15, etc.
    the number is the date the images were captured in year:month;day format, so they sort themselves easily into date order.
    These are all on a dedicated drive which I call thePhotoshop drive. While the files are on this disk, I add keywords (using File Info in Bridge) and make gross adjustments in Bridge and occasionally generate a PSD in Photoshop which is saved to the same directory.
    After I have added keywords, made adjustments and backed up the files to DVD, I then use Windows Explorer to move the directories (09 05 05, etc) from the Photoshop drive to another dedicated drive I call the Lightroom drive and put them in a folder for the year: 2003, 2004 ... up to 2009.
    So folder 2009 will have in it sub-folders named:  09 05 12,  09 08 15, etc.
    I do not use the Import Images function of Lightroom. Instead, once the files are moved to the lightroom drive, I tell lightroom to Synchronize the 2009 folder. This finds all the new folders I have added to the 2009 folder, the files in them and adds the keywords that I added to each image in Bridge.
    But there is a problem: The last time I did this, I found that two extra keywords were added to all files and that these keywords had nothing to do with the images in question, rather they belonged to images brought in in a previous synch session.
    I have looked in Auto Import Settings and there are no keywords specified so they are not originating there, even though I don't use the import function. But clearly the extra two keywords (which have affected almost 1,000 images) are coming from someplace but I can't figure out where. There seems to be no obvious other place to specify default keywords in Lightroom.
    Can anyone tell me where Lightroom might be picking these up and how to clear them so the are not added the next time I bring in more images?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    Hal,
    As I said, I didn't use the import function per se, but I think you're right.
    I think where I messed up was looking at File > Auto Import > Auto Import Settings to see if there were keywords saved and there were none. So I assumed that was all I needed to check.
    But, if I go to File > Import Photos From Disk, select a random image and proceed from there, two keywords appear in the dialog box in the next window. So Auto Import and Import Photos from Disk must maintain separate lists of keywords and even if one is cleared, the other apparently is not. I suppose that might be considered a convenience, but it's really more of a snare for the unwary.
    If that is so, then even though I merely moved the directories over with Explorer and then used Synchronize, the synchronize function must pull the keywords from Import from Disk without asking if I want to use them when it finds new files. That could be a problem because occasionally I open a file from Lightroom in Photoshop, edit and save it back with a different name like xyz version 2.psd. Lightroom will not find it unless I synchronize the folder. That might result in the revision picking up unwanted keywords, if synchronize pulls settings from Import. I'll check the next time I do it.
    For safety I'll also have to get used to using the Import dialog rather than using the Windows Explorer > synchronize trick.
    Thanks for your help,
    Bill

  • HT1347 When I add a folder to the library, does that mean that 'later' when I drop a new file into that folder (already added) it will automatically end up in iTunes? (or do I have to add file/folder to library every time I have a new file??) I'm using XP

    When I add a folder to the library, does that mean that 'later' when I drop a new file into that folder (already added) it will automatically end up in iTunes? (or do I have to add file/folder to library every time I have a new file??) I'm using XP...

    iTunes does not actively scan the media folders.  If you manually add content to a folder, then you must add that content to iTunes manually via the File > Add File/Folder feature.
    The only folder that gets scanned is the "Automatically add to iTunes" folder.

  • Permissions in a folder are not applied to new files added by users over shared network

    New files added to a shared folder do not inherit the permissions of the folder but rather retain the permissions of the user. Because the purpose of the folder on the network is to allow multiple users access to all the files (read and write), these new files cannot be accessed and editd by others. Is there a way to have the new files automatically inherit the folder permissons? I am aware of the "Apply to enclosed items " drop-down in the Get Info window but this is not practical given the number of new files that are produced and filed.
    THanks,
    JD

    If it's the folder is on the boot drive then the only way to accomplish this is with a combination of groups and ACL's as far as I know. There may be other ways but this is the one I know.
    You say the folder is on the network but is on the boot disk, how are you setting this up and are the users accessing this all from Mac's? And they all have accounts on this Mac?
    In a nutshell you would setup a group that all the users needing to access the folder belong to and then setup the ACL on the fodder so that all member's of that group will have full permission to whatever is in the folder.
    So first in Users&Groups create a group for this and add all the users who need access.
    The do to the folder and change its group to the group you created and change its mode to 775 (or 770 if you don't want anyone else having even read access on the folder)
    Then enter this
    sudo chmod -R +a "GroupNameCreated  allow delete,chown,list,search,add_file,\
    add_subdirectory,delete_child,file_inherit,directory_inherit"  folderToChange
    Now the weird thing is if you look at files in the folder they will appear to have the normal Unix mode of 644 but anyone in the group will have read, write and delete permission on the items in the folder.
    I suggest you play with this on a test folder and seeing if it meets your needs before changing the working folder.
    Also this will not change anything already in the folder it only applies to newly created files/folders
    regards

  • How to poll directory to check whether new file is added in plsql code

    How to poll directory to check whether new file is added in plsql code

    You can simply try opening that file for read in a loop (with some sleep in between). But in some OS (e.g. UNIX) file is accessible even if it is partially written. I suggest creating OK file (empty file with same name and OK as extension) after creating main file. This way PL/SQL code will be polling for OK file which means main file is completed.

  • Bridge freezes after adding a new keyword & wont allow the keywords to work

    when I am in bridge and working away - ill create a new keyword -so select new keyword, type in the name and then hit enter etc... when I go the new keyword which I have just created - it wont allow me to check the box (so tick it & allocate it to an image OR any image) - I must re-start bridge and then it works...
    is anyone else having this issue?
    im using Bridge CS 3 - 2.1.1.9
    thanks in advance!

    Yes, where you click is critical, and it varies from word to word sometimes, seems to be a little to right of where you expect.
    According the the knowledgebase, compacting cache gets rid of files that are not associated with anything anymore.
    CS2 used all 3 (Ctrl, Alt, Shift) keys, but CS3 and 4 can use just the Ctrl key to reset preferences.

  • Event handler if new File added in current folder

    Hi folks,
    I'm just trying to write a little jsx script for Bridge CS6.
    How can I implement an event handler that will react if the user adds a new thumbnail (new file) to the current folder in bridge.
    I've tested it with this code, but it doesn't work:
    app.document.thumbnail.watch ("children", function(id, oldVal, newVal) {
         $.writeln (oldVal + " to " + newVal);
         // some code here
    Thanks. Greetings

    Beautiful. Works as advertised. Thank you for pointing it out to me. Unfortunate that a basic subset of this extension's behaviour doesn't ship with Thunderbird out of the box, though.

  • Adding a new DIV file to my website in order to add instafeed.min.js

    Hi all,
    I am in the midst of a major upgrade/facelift to our website at http://mauiandsonsretail.com
    I added quite a few new things but only modifying the previous .css, div and html code.
    I was wondering, how can I add/create a new div to contain my instafeed on the top right corner, right under to the image of the shark fin of my site. (image below) with out disrupting other DIV. I know i am really new at and am hopeful that i will continue to learn thanks to all of your help!
    dario
    here is my code that did produce our instagram feed but i had trouble controlling the vertical layout of it. It just produced a stream of images going downward pushing anything too far down.
    <script type="text/javascript" src="js/instafeed.min.js"></script>
    <script type="text/javascript">
        var feed = new Instafeed({
            get: 'user',
            userId: ########,

      resolution: 'low_resolution',
      accessToken: '########.###ede5.49cf######a224221ab4fffe####c65e6'
        feed.run();
    </script>

    Murray thank you so much! MurraySummers
    that's exactly what i needed, i went ahead and added the new div you provided and made some adjustments and its working!
    looks awesome, thank you so much Murray. Again super grateful!
