Keywords conflict between Lightroom & Bridge

I am new to Lightroom but have used Bridge for a long time.
My Bridge keywords have evolved over time and various hierarchies and parent keywords have been changed many times to reflect my needs.
I find that when I import older images into Lightroom, older parent keywords, long deleted from Bridge, reappear in the Lightroom workspace.
When I update metadata in Lightroom and write the data back to the original files, the old hierarchies and parent keywords reappear in Bridge and in the file's keyword list.
I cannot find a way around this problem.

1) Update LR with any changes made inside Bridge using Metadata> Read Metadata from File from the LR menu for ALL changed files. You should do this BEFORE making ANY keyword changes to a file inside LR.
2) After making keyword change inside LR apply Metadata> 'Save Metadata to File' immediately so that the changes are written to the file(s), making them visible inside Bridge.
I'm guessing that somewhere in time keywords were edited in LR and Bridge without following the above "synchronization" steps. If PS's XMP reader shows keywords "excluded" in Bridge then that's probably what happened. If the excluded keywords are NOT showing in XMP (but still visible inside LR) then further investigation is required.

In LR once you add a keyword, have that thunbnail highlighted and (if on a Mac) hit the Command Key + the S key and it will send the info so it will be readable in Bridge. Or go to Metadata and click to send metadata to file. (I don't know the shortcut for a PC) I haven't done it with PSCC yet, but in CS6 I quite often had to close out Bridge and re-start it and the keywords showed up.

Out of sync - Lightroom & Bridge

I have about 550 images that I shot in Canon Raw. I launched Adobe Bridge so that I could make some universal/global changes to all of the images (Camera Profile, White Balance, Contrast, Vibrance, Clarity, etc.) in Camera Raw. After I made the changes, I launched Lightroom so that I could tweak the images individually. Occasionally, I'd have the need to go back and forth between Lightroom and Bridge, when I'd want to make more global changes to multiple images.
What I'm now finding is that the images are not in sync between the two applications. I'll make changes in Bridge (Camera Raw) to several images, and then go back to Lightroom, and the changes aren't reflected. In Lightroom, I choose "Syncronize Folder", and it goes through the motions, but the images don't sync. When I go to open each image in Photoshop from Lightroom & Bridge, I still have two separate, completely deferent images. If I open the image from the Finder, I get the Bridge version, which is the last version that I've modified.

Before an explanation of having LR and Bridge/ACR see each other's edits, please note that the global things you say you are doing in ACR/Bridge can be done just as easily in LR and maybe easier, using the Sync... button or Copy/Paste settings and you'll save yourself a lot of grief and needing to be careful if you forget about Bridge/ACR for en masse things whenever possible, as long as you are using LR with the same images.
Ok now for how to make Bridge and ACR see each other's changes:
Bridge stores edits in an XMP sidecar, while LR stores them internally and to synchronize them is not always as easy as you'd expect; however, if you manually read and write the XMP files from LR then you can make it work.
First, you should make sure that your default settings for toning and everything else are identical between ACR and LR otherwise LR and ACR will use their defaults for things that aren't specified in the XMP files and you might have differences.
If you do things in Bridge/ACR as your very first step, then it should generate XMP files that have the same base filename as the RAW but with an XMP extension. When you import files into LR then it will use things it sees in the XMP sidecar files for its initial settings, but then it internalizes them and you have to do something to make it write the changes back out to the XMP files if you are going to edit them in Bridge, again.
If your first step is to Import the files into LR for sorting then Bridge won't know anything about any changes you also make unless you create XMP files for the images you've changed.
You can either have LR automatically write the changes to XMP files (a preference sets this) or you can do it manually by doing Library / (select all) / Metadata / Write Changes to Files (note the S on Files if multiple files are selected which they aren't if you are in Develop) and this is safest, anyway, in case LR hasn't caught up writing things automatically to XMP files if you've made mass changes in LR.
Once any LR changes are in the XMP files, then Bridge/ACR will see them.
Once you are done with Bridge/ACR you have to do something to tell LR there are changes it needs to look for in the XMP files, since its primary location for changes is in its internal database. You can use Library / (select all) / Metadata / Read Changes from Files to overwrite LR's settings with whatever is in the XMP file.
You have to be careful with this and not erase changes by writing when you should be reading or reading when you should be writing. To fix the situation you find yourself in, now, you may have to forego your changes in either LR or Bridge by telling LR to editor Read Metadata from Files (overwrites LR changes) or Write Metadata to Files (overwrites Bridge changes).
I think the Synchronize can be used if the dates in the XMP file are newer than what LR has internally but I'm not sure if this always works and someone else will have to give the definite answer on Synchronize. I gave up using Bridge/ACR along with LR a long time ago and just do all my en masse edits in LR and just use ACR the conversion into Photoshop when I use Edit In Photoshop from LR.
There are other things to be aware of: LR has a Write Metadata to Files on the right-click menu from a library folder. This is a shortcut for producing the initial set of XMP files, but it only does this for images where something has actually changed since the file was imported or since the last time the XMP was updated from LR, so you may have to trick it by selecting all the files and doing a relative up and down of something in the Quick Develop panel--something like Clarity or Saturation that is not likely to be maxed out in any of the files that you're tweaking settings of just to make the changes "newer" than the last time.

Keywords, iPhoto '08 and Bridge CS3

I've got a bunch of photos (10,000) with keywords added with Adobe Bridge CS3. When I import these into iPhoto (with "Copy items to the iPhoto library" checked/enabled), the keywords import.
But when I use iPhoto to add new keywords, these keywords do not get written to the file! They seem to exist only in the iPhoto database. And Spotlight keys off the actual file, so none of my newly added keywords are searchable in Spotlight, only the IPTC keywords on the file. Which is not what I want.
However, if I import a file to iPhoto that has no IPTC keywords on it, and then I add keywords with iPhoto, iPhoto will write these keywords to the file. So it appears that iPhoto won't write out IPTC keywords if the file already has them. That *****. Big time.
Does this mean that if I want to use iPhoto exclusively (abandoning Bridge CS3) to manage my photos etc that I have to somehow strip off all IPTC keywords and then re-import to iPhoto, and then re-tag all my 10,000 files with keywords? Please tell me there is an easier way.

This is correct. You can write them to the file on export (File -> Export).
iPhoto is your photo organiser, so the idea is that you don't search in Spotlight but in iPhoto or in a media browser that hooks into iPhoto. Remember, if you're using iPhoto you can't really access the files via the Finder anyway.(* See Below for more)
You do need to choose between Bridge and iPhoto. They do the same job but surfing the iPhoto library with Bridge is one of the more common ways of damaging it.
However, if I import a file to iPhoto that has no IPTC keywords on it, and then I add keywords with iPhoto, iPhoto will write these keywords to the file. So it appears that iPhoto won't write out IPTC keywords if the file already has them.
I'm afraid that I'm not sure the point you're making. iPhoto will read the IPTC tags and add to them on export.
*There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
Other options include:
1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

Conflict between VPN and Airport disk

Hello Folks, I just bought a brand new airport extreme 802n.
I thought it would be working fine with my Macbook pro, but it doesn't.
I can't access any externe hard disk or USB Stick through the airport extreme, although the format is FAT32. I checked and checked but found nothing useful. All the settings are default.
Worth to mention, I always use a cisco VPN client to get connected to the Internet (university student).
There are few times when I disconnected the VPN Client, the USB Client can be found and read, but not be written.
I though it is a conflict between VPN and Airport disk. So I tried without VPN, but the USB stick and the extern hard disk still didn't work properly. I have no idea what is happening could somebody help?
By the way is it possible to set Airport extreme as a VPN router so I don't have to use the cisco VPN client anyway?

I have an Airport Extreme connected to a cable modem
with comcast as my isp. The Extreme is connected to
a G4 dual processor mac via ethernet. I also have 3
airport expresses around the house to work as range
extenders. When I had the G4 connect to the Extreme
via its internal airport card, I had no difficulty
connecting to any of the Expresses around the house
with my g4 powerbook. Now that I have the G4 Dual
directly connected by ethernet to get the fastest
speed, I cannot get my expresses or my laptop to
connect through my laptop to the base station. all
lights are green on the expresses, but running
network diagnostics on the powerbook shows red or
yellow for the last two buttons on the right. Do I
have a configuration problem or an Extreme that won't
bridge properly?
Check that the G4 Dual has a location configured with
only "Built-In Ethernet" activated, and that its
Ethernet connection isn't shared on AirPort.
Turn off all your AX and check that your
PB G4 is able to connect to "your" AirPort network.
Take advantage of this silence of all your AX
to run an analysis of your wireless environnement:
- check that you don't have any neighbor wireless
network,
- check that on each of your AX settlement you have a
very good reception of "your" AirPort network.
If everything works fine to that point, add one AX to

Conflict between Client object model and Item Updated Event Receiver in sharepoint 2010

Hello All,
As per my requirement I have a two custom list.
Agent Details
Port Name
Agent Details contains Agent code, Port Name, email, address and phone of Agent. Its possible that one Agent Code is connected with multiple Port Name.
Basically what I am doing is I am getting port name connected with Agent code, using jquery and bind those values with check box(using javascript created dynamically) and bind all with Div tag.
Now when my custom edit form of Agent list open up it shows me different port name binding with checkbox group.
when user select the check box and click confirm button my clicent object model script will run and add this selected value into Port Name list.
After confirm one more button named Save will enable asking user to edit the email, phone or address value and when I click on save my Item updated event fires which update the values of the selected port name(These port name I am getting from port
name list) to Agent Details custom list.
Now when I am trying to update the values my event receiver fires or some times it got stuck(not firing). So could you please help me the possible alternative for this requirements.
Can we user the Ecma Script(Client object model to preserve the value of selectec port) and Item updated event receiver on the same time?
Is anything am doing wrong then please guide me.

As I understand, when you updated values in the agent details list the Item updated event receiver got stuck sometimes.
The item update event receiver will fire after the item has been saved, and the client object model script or the Ecma Script runs before the item is saved, so there is no conflict between the client object model script and item update event receiver.
You could find out the reason about the item update event receiver gets stuck by debugging the event receiver.
When you want to debug your event receivers, you have to attach to OWSTIMER.EXE and wait till they are executed. You can control this behavior using the Synchronization attribute. Also, if you’re looking for an easy way to debug an event receiver without
having to manually attach a debugger to your code, you can use the System.Diagnostics.Debugger.Launch() method.

Conflict between Logic pro 7.2.2 and DIGI002 using a macbook pro

Hi.
I'm running Logic pro 7.2.2 on a macbook Pro using a DIGI002 rack as audio interface. I experience an extremely bad performance from my computer and keep getting these warnings: "conflict between Logic Pro and external device (digi002)" and the application runs VERY slow! I have updated all drivers but that hasn't helped! I practically can't use Logic at all, as it complaints when hardly running any tracks in a session. Has anybody experinced or heard of it before? It has really started to get on my nerves!!!!

I am running Logic Pro with a Digi002 Rack.My driver versions are:
Digi Core Audio manager 7.1.1cs1
ProTools LE v7.1.1cs1 also the first Intel compatible version of ProToolsLE.
Logic Pro 7.2.2
All of this works,and I even use the Digi002 also to playback audio from iTunes,iMovieHD,iDVD,and Quicktime Pro,without any problems at all.
Are you able to run ProToolsLE well,or is it exhibiting the same problems?
Are you using the internal drive as a record drive,or do you have an external firewire drive for audio? This is important.I would recommend NEVER using the internal drive for recording audio,it can make the drive unusable after a while.
It would be good to know if you do have the latest drivers for the Digi002,and are able to run iTunes etc... If that is the case then going and removing all of Logic Pro preference files,and re-selecting the Digi002 interface as the audio hardware might do the trick.Also,check Audio Midi setup and make sure it sees the Digi002 correctly.
Lastly,and this suggestion no one seems to give...is simply this:check ALL your firewire cables,and if they look even a little frayed,replace them.Also,please put the Digi002 in the following order,if you are daisy chaining multiple firewire devices:
MacBook Pro
\Digi002 Rack
\\firewire hard drive(s)
\\\any external DVD/CDburners,ESPECIALLY if the manufacturer recommends this position for heir device.
\\\\any other external devices(cameras,printers,whatever)and have them OFF when running Logic or ProTools.

A conflict between program Mac mail and program Microsoft Outlook e-mail?
For several months tried to discuss and resolve with several Apple specialists/support, but without much luck.
Therefore I have discussed these issues with 2 different and independent Mac users to find out in testing other Mac users will have the same problems as outlined in the below mentioned situations.
I will therefore outline the coverage issues, as mentioned, including occurs on my iMac 21.5 " with serial number: <Edited by Host> and 2 friends with their Macbooks of new dates as follows:
1. Sending from my Mac plain mail as "plain text "(during formatting):
Plain text mail as "Plain Text "(during formatting) Verdana font size 10, sent and received on Windows PC with the correct letter size - but with the font changed to Century Gothic!!!
2. Sending from my Mac plain mail "formatted text" (during formatting):
Eg. with my signature/signature-colored types and Verdana as font and size 10, possibly with underlining and italics in the text dispatched - the mail received as text with New Times Roman size 12 and signing /signature color Verdana now in size 13.5!!!!
3. Sending plain mail "as normal text "(during formatting)
In the mail text underlined and made bold - the program asks whether to convert to RTF format (to keep underlining, bold, etc.) and Verdana as font and size 10, YES - this mail is received on the Windows PC as text with New Times Roman with the desired underlining and bold text and size 12!!!!
4. Plain text mail as "formatted Text"
Eg. with signature / signature-colored types and Verdana as font and size 10, possibly with underlining and italics in the text sent - received as text with New Times Roman and signing / signature as colored Verdana now in size 13.5!!!
5. Sending mail with file attached:
After producing a normal text document modified to PDF and directly from the Adobe Reader sent this PDF file in e-mail formatted as normal text with font Verdana 10 point, with signature. This is received on the Windows PC with a PDF file OK, but the font of the mail text is changed to Century Gothic and missing signature. Signature is available as an attachment on the Windows Outlook e-mail program as a ATT00113.text file. This can be opened and there is the missing signature!
6. Sending e-mail with photos directly from iPhoto
iPhoto opens and click on the desired photos eg. 5 pcs. (Exactly as mentioned in the demo video!) and click on the e-mail icon at iPhoto and the program opens and e-mail that is opened with the attached photos and rich text is being used in the mail. Signature disappears and must be clicked on the mail by the sender.
The mail is received with the attached pictures OK - text changed to Times Roman with the desired bold - though no signature and 5 pcs. Att0028.html files attached. These can be opened and contains the file number each picture!
The above problems can be partly avoided by the following:
1. Only send mails as plain text
Without any underlining, attachments, etc.. When the Windows PC Outlook receiver opens the mail where only the text fond is changed!!
2. Sending mail with attached file
Start opening the mail program and use formatted plain text first and then attach (with the staple) file, and the Window receiver will get the file, but text and signature changed to Times New Roman size 13!!
3. Sending mail with photos from iPhoto
Start by opening mail program text in Verdana 10 and click the Photo Browser and find (look for - takes its time!) the pictures you want to send and pull/drag them into the mail and send, - images, text and signature are in the mail on Windows PC - but with the font changed to Century Gothic!!!
If sent as formatted text with various underlining, italics, etc. together with the photos will be received OK - but the writing is now New Times Roman size 12 signatures Verdana now in size 13!!!
I must say – I am disappointed with the Mac mail program – it actually means that sending a perfect mail with underlining, colours, a.s.o. also photos directly from iPhoto – will received at a Windows computer in a totally mess.
Looking forward to some good news from either Mac supporter or some clever Mac users who can help me to adjust my Mac to avoid these problems IF POSSIBLE!!!!.
Apple/Mac is too good a product to make these problems!!

The PC sets the font on its side, the Mac does on its side for plain text. There is no "font size" in plain text coding. Rich Text gives you a bit more control, but only if both e-mail clients support it. HTML gives you a bit more control, but only if both e-mail clients support it. Use the asterisk, parenthesis, underscore, or any keyboard symbol that is part of the original ASCII. Otherwise, the chance is nobody else will be able to read it who does not have your e-mail client in the same version.
Sadly there are no e-mail standards except MIME for attachment, and even that isn't universally supported. E-mail is not the ideal medium for anything except plain text that is ASCII. To learn more about ASCII, see:

Is it possible to embed keywords assigned in Lightroom 4 into DNG files?

Keywords I assign to photos in Lightroom do not show up as "tags" when I view the photo's properties in Windows Live Photo Gallery. Is it possible to embed keywords assigned in Lightroom to the properties of the photo file?

Thanks very much for your response. Ctrl-S saved the keywords to the DNG file properties. However, my original question was wrong. I should have asked how to save the keywords assigned in Lightroom to the properties of a TIFF file. Ctrl-S in Lightroom does not seem to embed keywords assigned to a TIFF file. When I check the properties of a TIFF file in Windows Live Photo Gallery after I have assigned keywords in Lightroom, the keywords assigned in Lightroom do not appear as "tags." Do you have any additional suggestions?

Error while trying to synchronize audio and MIDI. Sample rate 42804 recognized. Check conflict between Garageband and external device.

Sometimes, while playing back my software instrument songs, I get an intermittent pop-up error message, saying "Error while trying to synchronize audio and MIDI. Sample rate 42804 recognized. Check conflict between Garageband and external device."
(Sometimes the five digit number is different, but remains a five-digit number beginning with "4".)
Simultaneously, the song stops until I press the "Okay" button in the pop-up window.
When I continue to play the song, the sound is jerky and clipped, and the playhead doesn't keep up with the song, and then suddenly jumps to the part of the song currently being played.
There's also a sound of static.
The issue seems to occur whether or not I have my MIDI controller turned on and plugged into my desktop Imac.

Conflict between iTunes Match and Windows 8.1

I have been running iTunes on my fully updated Windows 8.1 PC for some time, without any particular issues. A few days ago, I activated iTunes match. It worked just fine, in the perspective of my iPhone and iPad. However, my PC stopped being responsive: Long time-outs on just about anything, and dialog windows refusing to appear (one of them being the McAfee console ....). A virus search using Microsoft's emergency services showed nothing.
The moment I de-activated iTunes match, everyhing reverted to normal.
My conclusion is, there is a major conflict between whatever the iTunes match service does, and the Windows 8.1 operating system.
Any idea what this is all about, and if there is anything I can do about it (except avoiding using the match functionality)?
I have the latest update of iTunes for PC.

How can I resolve conflict between itunes and Windows 8.1

When downloading itunes to my laptop computer, using Windows 8.1 my email/network account will not work on that computer. It is fine on other devices such as ipad and Windows phone. I can also pick up emails on online on the same laptop. There appears to be a conflict between itunes and Windows 8.1

It's important to keep in mind that the picture files are NOT stored in the Organizer. They are not stored in Lightroom or Bridge either...
The organizer is based on a catalog which stores the pictures properties, mainly the location of the pictures on your drive(s). It's the same idea of catalogs in Lightroom, and the nice thing is that Lightroom can convert organizer catalogs to its own format. The most obvious way for you will be to use Lightroom.
Bridge is a file browser which is a different way than to use catalogs.

I am wondering why when I try to edit a file in photoshop it will only open when I choose the render using Lightroom option. If I choose open anyway it simply does nothing. Same thing if I choose open as smart object nothing happens. I am have the latest updates. Using latest version of lightroom and Photoshop CS5.1. Can anyone shed some light on my issue?

my canon video camera (HV20) wasnt being recognised by iMovie (error message...in system report was "Unable to list FireWire devices".)
in researching a solution i came across some firewire advice in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1151#trouble which suggests there may be a "software conflict between the device and something in your original user account."
i changed to another account on my iMac and my camera connected immediately.
is anybody able to explain how i go about fixing this "software conflict".

With the Mail.app quit and using the Finder, go to Home > Library > Mail > Mailboxes > Outbox.mbox.
The Outbox.mbox represents "Out" in the mailboxes drawer and is shared by all accounts.
Delete the Outbox.mbox and empty the Trash.
Launch Mail and a new Outbox.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the Mailboxes folder and this should resolve the problem.
