Keywords, meta & description

Hi, can someone please tell me the difference between
keywords, meta & description? I'm new to Dreamweaver and am
just going through the pages of my 1st site to add these. I know
that they're all for a similar purpose, and I'm guessing that the
description is a short paragraph summarising the page, whilst
keywords are a few well chosen individual words. I'm not sure about
meta though.
Also, I've already added both descriptions & keywords to
all pages, but when I go back in the pop up box is blank again, as
if I've not entered anything. Do you know why this is?
Many thanks,

Here's the difference: The former meta is ignored by all
search engines but
Yahoo, and can generally be left out of your pages. The
latter is used by
the search engines to describe a link to your site when your
site appears in
a hit list.
> guessing that the description is a short paragraph
summarising the page
Yes, that's correct, but the summary would be in the context
of the site's
mission. It's to describe a listing of that page's URL in the
list of
search engine hits.

Oh - I see. You need to put DW down and go study HTML here -
http://www.w3schools.com.
Without a good basis in HTML, DW will be a very
mysterious adventure for you. What you are missing here is
the function of
the <meta> tag.

We'd need to see your code to know what you have done.

  • Description and keywords meta tags

    Hello,
Could you tell me if it's possible to create HTML output of an ADF page, that has "description" and "keywords" meta tags in the head? Something like:
    <meta name="keywords" content="adf jdeveloper description keywords meta tags">
    <meta name="description" content="This is a short description of text on a imaginary page">
I know the SEO results may not be great, but I'd still like to use it, just to make it as good as possible for search engines.
    Greetings,
    Daan Horn

    Daan,
    Sorry for the oversight.
[url http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/partners/addins/exchange/jsf/doc/tagdoc/core/document.html]Tag documentation for af:document says that af:document has a facet called "metaContainer" which emits the meta tags. I didn't see any examples or have time to test, but you can certainly try putting the meta tags in that facet.
Update: all of the examples I can find show how to inject javascript into the metacontainer, but it should give you an idea how to do it for <meta> tags. [url http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/tips/fnimphius/increase_css_and_javascript_performance.html?_template=/ocom/print]Here'surl one such example I found via Google.

  • Is there a way to include a html title, meta description & keywords inside edge animate?

How do you include a title so when a user adds the html page in their favorites it is something other than untitled. include keywords and description for search engines. Right now I have to load the finished project files in Dreamweaver to insert this info. Thanks

    Hey, seriouscodecreator-
You can change the title by changing the top input box in the Stage's properties panel.
As for other meta tags, you might want to check out this forum post:

  • Keyword Meta Tag Text Box

I use Dreamweaver 8 and read there is a "text box" similar to
the one for description on the toolbar for adding keywords.
This was in the help section of Dreamweaver 8 as follows:
    Setting Keywords properties
Many search-engine robots (programs that automatically browse
the web gathering information for search engines to index) read the
contents of the Keywords meta tag and use the information to index
your pages in their databases. Because some search engines limit
the number of keywords or characters they index, or ignore all
keywords if you go beyond the limit, it’s a good idea to use
    just a few well-chosen keywords.
Enter your keywords, separated by commas, in the text box
    labeled Keywords.
Where on the tool bar is this located or how do you get it on
the toolbar? I have searched but must be missing something.
Thanks in advance for any help.

That information is flawed. The major search engines (with
    the possible
exception of Yahoo) do not use keywords at all.
Try INSERT | HTML > Head Tags > Meta Keywords.

  • Meta description

In order to avoid duplicate Meta descriptions, on multiple
pages created from a template (Meta description inserted on
template code) what can I do. DW doesn't let me edit individual
page Meta description as they are created from a template. Any
    advise please...

    > but cannot find the mistake.
I can. Changes to editable content in a template page DO NOT
    PROPAGATE TO
EXISTING CHILD PAGES. You are forgetting how templates
    work....

  • Keyword and description not included in the Page Properties window

There is no  Keyword and Description option in the Page Properties window (metadata). The only item available is HTML as <head>. How do I get Keyword and Description options included?

A master page has no keyword or description section, because it isn’t exported as HTML.

  • Adding keywords and description to filename

I've built myself an online gallery system to let my clients view and purchase their photos online.  To streamline my workflow, the script that imports my photos and resizes them for web display will also parse the file name to pull out a description and tags (keywords).  So I went in and added descriptions and keywords to a few test images and went to save them out to try running through the script, but when trying to save from Camera Raw neither keywords nor description were available to add to the jpg file name.  I figured I could get around this by simply using Bridge to rename the NEF files using the keywords and description, then I could just have CR save the jpgs using the current filename, but even Bridge doesn't seem to be able to access this metadata (and this would add addition time to the process anyway).
I know I can work around this by simply batch renaming the sets of files that I would otherwise add this metadata to, and creating the file names manually before export, but that would add a fair amount of time into the process and eliminates me being able to use keywords in Bridge.  I work two jobs right now and anything I can do to my workflow to shave precious minutes off of it is huge to me.
So I guess my questions are:
    1) Is it possible to get keywords and the description into my filenames (without spending more time than this process was designed to save)?
    2) If not, what's the point of having that metadata?
    3) Is this functionality available in a newer version of PS?
I'm using Photoshop CS3 and the format my final JPG files need to have is: "[4 digit sequence number]_[Description]_[comma delimited keyword list].jpg"
Thanks for reading, and hopefully helping.

Sorry about that, was too early in the morning when i posted that. No, you can't use Batch Rename to add keywords to files, i was thinking about metadata in general. The point of keywords is that you can search images for keywords and you can also use the Filter panel to show only images that contain certain keywords.
If you want Bridge to have this functionality then i suggest that you make a feature request here: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish

  • I've found {tag_metatitle} is there one for a page meta description?

    This is driving me nutz....
The add a Page interface has extended options for SEO:
    SEO Metadata
    Page Title:
    Page Description:
    Search Results:
Show this page for search enginesHide this page for search engines
The results of this appear in the site generated SiteMap. But, I'm wondering if there is a tag for the Page Description = meta description?
I have been able to find the tag {tag_metatitle} which seems to work.
I have also noticed the seo tags in the blog module:
    {tag_blogpostmetadescription}
Renders the blog post meta description entered in the SEO Metadata Description field in the Blog post interface
    {tag_blogpostmetatitle}
Renders the blog post meta title entered in the SEO Metadata Title field in the Blog post interface
Any ideas for work-arounds will also be helpful.

Hi Liam...that would be way too simple

  • Keyword and description fields missing when add bookmark

    vers 37.0.1
In a recent upgrade I notice the keyword and description fields are missing when "bookmark this page".
When view bookmark properties in bookmarks sidebar these fields appear

You can make the fields visible with code in userChrome.css ()they have visibility:collapse).
Add code to the <b>userChrome.css</b> file below the default @namespace line.
    <pre><nowiki>@namespace url("http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekeeper/there.is.only.xul"); /* only needed once */

    #editBMPanel_descriptionRow,

The customization files userChrome.css (user interface) and userContent.css (websites) are located in the <b>chrome</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
*Create the chrome folder (lowercase) in the <xxxxxxxx>.default profile folder if this folder doesn't exist
*Use a plain text editor like Notepad to create a (new) userChrome.css file in the chrome folder (file name is case sensitive)
*Paste the code in the userChrome.css file in the editor window
*Make sure that the userChrome.css file starts with the default @namespace line
*Make sure that you select "All files" and not "Text files" when you save the file via "Save file as" in the text editor as userChrome.css.<br>Otherwise Windows may add a hidden .txt file extension and you end up with a not working userChrome.css.txt file

  • Where do I put Meta Description Tag

I am new at this and don't quite understand this meta business, I'm a print designer. I have looked this up but have not gotten satisfactory clear picture, I am still mixed up. Is there a video that explains this? I am about to send my design live but want to add a Meta Description Tag for the search engines.
    Thanks

    Hello,
You can enter the metadata details for you site using the Page -> Page Properties -> Metadata section as shown in this short video: http://jingsite.businesscatalyst.com/jing/2013-10-18_2258.swf
You'll need to do this for all pages one by one, which is good for SEO purposes as it's good to have unique metadata for each page of the site.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • How do I change Itunes:summary, keyword and description tags?

    Hey guys,
I have created my podcast in garageband and then uploaded it to Iweb. I submitted my podcast to itunes and it has been approved. The title of the Podcast is Heaven's Lounge and I put it in the music category. Below is the link.
    http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=262795345
However, when I do any type of search it says podcast cannot be found.
I have been reading alot of post regarding Itunes summary, keyword and description tags.
How do I go about adding keywords and description tags? I can't figure it out in Iweb.
    Someone please help.

Shouldn't really need to do that.  I have iCloud turned on on my
iPhone all the time, as I do on all my Macs.  I am still able to backup
and sync apps and music to iTunes via USB.  I do keep "Backup to iCloud"
turned off in iCloud preferences on the iPhone.  I do occasionally turn it
on and do a immediate backup to iCloud then turn it back off.  Can't have
    too many backups.
Actually did it this morning while contemplating whether to update to 11.

  • IPhoto Keyword and Descriptions

Over the last year, i have spent a lot of time scanning over 1,400 very old family photos into iPhoto 09 and have added keywords and descriptions. Now I would like to provide the enhanced pictures along with the keywords and descriptions to various family members as files on CD or DVD, but when I create a CD with the picture files (as .JPG), it doesn include the keywords or descriptions.  Is there way to include the keywords or descriptions along with the photos so they can be viewed by users who have Windows PC's or Mac's?  Thank you.

Select the photo(s) in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export) checking the appropriate boxes to include the metadata - the selected metadata will be written to the EXIF and ITPC fields in the photo so any photo viewer can see it

  • Meta description tags

I once created my site using old-fashioned HTML code but ever since I switched to iWeb, I can't seem to find a way to change the "meta description tag" for my site (which really needs to be changed/updated). Please help. How can I do this within iWeb? All answers I've found online for workarounds seem exceptionally complicated. Thanks!

The iweb snippets you're referring to are your own, right?
those widgets are mine and they are not snippets, they are full fledge widgets.
    snippet ≠ widget
Sounds like a good feature request for the next version or update.
what would feature request make any different?
requesting for feature means providing info. why would I volunteer my info to them? considering that they are rip-off artists.
if they want to make iweb better, open it up!!! it's opened to me!
better yet, they should have an iweb widget builder (API) as of Dashcode for Dash board widget.
BTW, my widgets do not required post editing.
post editing is so yesterday (I stopped post editing since 'iweb2'), pre/post editing is too much... (filling in the blank)
people should be warned that post editing will potentially cripple mme commenting system.
