• Flex 3 & Google Webmaster Tools' Keywords

Hi,
I've got a Flex 3 website. Unfortunately, Google Webmaster Tools lists zero keywords for my site. My site's been up for about a month. I submitted a sitemap. I've put a description and keywords metatags in the HTML wrapper.
Any advise on what else I should do?
Does anyone have a Flex 3 site for which Google Webmaster Tools lists keywords?
Thank you.
-Laxmidi

On my site, all Google does is extract "keywords" from the page title for Webmaster Tools. So, I only end up with two keywords! The page ranking uses the keywords you put into the META tags, and I get good results with page ranking. AFAIK, they are not the same thing. Try using desired keywords in the page title, but don't go overboard or they will penalize you.

• Runtime Error when starting Lightroom

I'm currently on day 12 or so of my trial with Lightroom. I've spent quite a few hours getting to know LR by retouching and cataloging over 8 years of photos. So far, aside from a few in-program bugs that I found a way to work around, I've been super-happy with it (especially the powerful keywording/metatagging system: amazing!) and have been really seriously coughing up the huge wad of $$ when the trial's done. But....
For no reason, LR started giving me a Runtime Error when I tried to start it. Something along the lines of "This application requested Runtime to terminate it unusually."
So off to Google I went, where I knew I could probably search that error and fix it like I've done with countless other programs. Unfortunately nothing is working.
Here are the facts:
--I'm running a fully patched Vista machine.
--LR worked fine earlier this morning. I had 1.4 and didn't perform any upgrades or maintenance to it (that I know of) when it just gave me the error out of the blue today when I tried to start it.
--I tried holding CTRL when I start it, and it still gives the error.
--I tried deleting a .lock file (which did exist) but it still wouldn't start.
--I tried running the "repair" tool in the install...no good.
--I uninstalled LR, d/led it again, and re-installed it. IT WORKED!....one time. I was able to run it, checked to make sure my cataloging was still intact (it was - phew!) and even deleted a folder I didn't want in it. Then I closed it. I tried re-opening it a few hours later and I got the SAME ERROR!
I sure hope someone can help because I'm at my wit's end.

This is disgusting. I've pounded away for over 4 hours and I finally found a workaround. Here's the original post that had my answer:
http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c05ac2f
The short of the story: if I put lightroom.exe into Windows XP compatibility mode" it will work. (To do that, for anyone else who comes across this, you just right-click your lightroom icon, click PROPERTIES, and go to the Compatibility tab and check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)")
I've loaded it up half a dozen times and it's still working perfectly as far as I can tell. Hopefully it won't hurt anything keeping it in that mode.
I'm glad this happened early enough into my trial that I'll have ample opportunity to see if it repeats itself. I'm not keen on sinking $300 into software that will give me ulcers as I troubleshoot problems like this.

• .PDF organization

Hello all!
I am going paperless with my life. Included in my library will be MS documents (Word/excel/Power P/Etc) and scanned in documents. PDF files are great, because they are the scanner standard! I recently learned how to use MS File Tags to let my Windows Vista find documents.
For instance, need a copy of your 2007 Income taxes? Click search, and type in
tag: 2007 tax
This will bring up microsoft and .PDF files with the file tags (keywords for PDF) that include "2007" and "tax"
Now the problem:
Windows explorer (in Vista) can display a "Tags" column in the Details view. Microsoft Office documents show the file tags, while PDF do not. Explorer can search only the PDF Keywords Metatag, but will not display it nor any other metatags in explorer. I know many of you know this, as I have searched on this alot...
Why does the Keywords metatag seem to be the only one searchable? Can I create a unique metatag that will be fully read by explorer?
Adobe specific (like Organizer) and thrid party apps are not a good solution for this, as my database needs to be portable.
Thanks

One of the problems is the search algorithm used in the Windows search. I had searched for a file for about a year and until I found the issue with the MS search it had missed me. The search will search inside a file for only a given set of specific file types (all MS files). Other files can only be searched by name, not content. There is a flag for this in the registry. The post at http://weblogs.asp.net/owscott/archive/2008/04/04/enabling-xp-and-windows-server-2003-to-s earch-all-files-types.aspx indicates one solution.
I think this is the process that you are referring to. If not, I am sorry. It is just that MS does not tell you that they do not search the content of ALL files, only the ones they have in a list (i.e., all MS files).

• When writing a web domain...are there any particular rules?

I am about to create the name for a website...I have two main questions:
1) how crucial is the order of words when deciding for the domain name. For example what would you rate as the best for a house website? spainholidayhouse.com or holidayhousespain.com?
2) Also do you guys know how, where and when to add seo tags on my website? I am creating the website with iweb, but i was wondering where shell I put tags for the images I have used? Shell I do that while I am editing in the iweb? but I have never seen any features that allow me to do that..
I wish somebody could give me an answer please!?
thanks very much guys!
Mat

Use whatever name feels easier to remember and what you feel is the most descriptive.
As for keywords it's best to include them into the text of the site. Google doesn't use the keyword metatag although other search engines do.
To add tags to the images you will need to publish your site to a folder on your hard drive and use iWeb SEO Tool to add the alt description to each photo.
You can also use it to add keywords, page descriptions, etc.
Remember, any time you edit and republish the site you will have to reapply those tags with SEO. Fortunately SEO remembers the tags added and all it will take is a single click to reapply all of the tags for the entire site.

• Please Post Your Site Here . Curious to see other IWEB created sites

http://www.craigsprints.com/
http://www.jbctextiles.com/
They are a work in progress, fun and frustrating at the same time... and I have been experimented with having meta tag descriptions or having the title in the url as well...It looks like if you have a meta tag description google only reads that rather than getting info from the page that you wrote? Can you just have a keyword metatag without a description metagtag?
I think I lost rank on Craigs Prints since I added the meta tag description...
Open to any ideas or constructive criticism

http://www.jcbankpics.com
I just redid this after looking at examples I found. I'm a novice at iweb, but I think I'm just scratching the surface. I need to work on better organization and perhaps design. I have to say though I'm pleased with the outcome thus far.
I'm open to any criticisms, suggestions or ideas.

• Value Error : font-family 14px is not a font-family value : italic 14px Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif

Hello,
This is supposedly the last error in my CSS according to CSS validation service at Jigsaw.w3.org. But I have not been able to figure out how to fix this. I just some times make text updates to my site, there is someone that actually runs our site but I do not have the $$$ to pay her to do everything.
Value Error : font-family 14px is not a font-family value : italic 14px Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif
That is the error, I just don't know how to fix it.
Thanks
My Computer:
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
Processor: AMD Phenom II Quad Core Processer
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6450
RAM: 8.00 GB

If you are talking about www.lodgeonlakeclear.com you still have html errors that could be creating DW display issues.
On a "bad form, not technically an error note" the use of dozens of keyword metatags for individual keywords is completely unnecessary. All of the keywords should be in one tag separated by comas for the couple of search engines out there that still use them. NOTE: None of the major browsers (Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc) use the keywords meta any longer, it is completely ignored by them.
Looking through your code without the validator, I see a few other issues. Anywhere in your text where you use the & symbol, you need to switch it to & in the source code. Those, coupled with the following error can cause issues.
Line 237 you use a - (minus sign) instead of a = (equals sign) for id="current"
Run the validator again: http://validator.w3.org/
Once all 18 errors and 11 warnings are gone from your HTML, post back if it is still not showing up in DW.

• Go Daddy - Traffic Blazer

Hi.
I am using Go Daddy's Traffic Blazer to try to optimize my site for search engines. From my keywords it generates a 'keyword metatags' code and I am supposed to copy that into a no-viewable section of my iweb site. is this possible? I feel like Im missing something here. Please help.

Just to add to that, it creates an html page like this:

• Wondering where metatags/keywords are kept

Hi there,
Wondering if anyone knows if metatags/keywords are kept somewhere outside of Bridge/CS4 (somewhere on my computer...?). If so, where please?
Thanks!

Again, it depends on what metadata/tags you want to read. Keywords are entered on the file so even Windows Exporter can read them (called tags). With Vista you can even search for them.
If you want the ISO, metering pattern, lens length, whether the flash went off, camera serial number, or whatever, that may have a different answer.
Whether of not another program can read Bridge metadata and keywords I don't know.
This may be a round-about answer, but as with most things there are a lot of variables that influence the answer.

• Updating metatags keywords

Hello everyone.
I recently bought a Microsoft Vista laptop. I find that the Windows Photo Gallery is an excellent way to organize all my photos.
The problem is that I have put meta keywords on several photos via Windows Photo Gallery. How do I update this info to Adobe Lightroom? Is there not an easy way to update this info in the Lightroom software?
/Jimmy

Lightroom is not a multi-user application, and so you can, via tedious manipulation of files, achieve the result you want, but I should also note that make one mistake, and you potentially have a real mess on your hands.
The best solution (in my opinion) is to put the catalog file and all photos on a server that you can both access. The drawback to doing this is that only one person can be working with a specific Lightroom catalog at a time. And given my usual advice to use only one catalog, this may not meet your needs.
If that's not a good solution, then the intern can create her own temporary catalog of the portion of the photos to be worked on today, add keywords and other metadata, and then pass the catalog file to you to merge with your main catalog using the command File->Import from another catalog.
As another alternative, if the only task the intern will carry out is adding keywords and other metadata, there are many freeware solutions that your intern can use for this, and then when she is done in a particular folder, you can in Lightroom select all the photos in that folder, and then read the metadata from the photo files. For Windows, two such freeware programs are GeoSetter and ExifToolGUI.

• Iweb keywords vs. old metatags

I just got my personal domain working. In the process I lost my place in google search. Since iweb doesn't use tags, how can I get my web site to show up again? I did put in a lot of key words in my copy, but my .com doesn't even show up in a google search.

Many suggest using Google, http://www.google.com/addurl/, instead of adding metatags. However, you can add metatags to your published site using the freeware iWeb SEO Tool 1.0.1.
More info on using Google can be had here: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWeb_Google.html

• Metatags funktionieren nicht

Liebe Leute
