Keywords on Export

After reading up on exporting where you can strip out EXIF data I'm still uncertain about keywords when images are Exported.
Are the keywords kept when exporting? These are Stock Photos and some metadata is required. Running LR 1.3.1 on OSX 10.11.
Steve

You can strip out all data, and you can leave it in. I'm under the impression that Stock Photo houses look for info in the EXIF data, not the metadata where I normally store my keywords. I could be all wet on this, but yes, key words are kept, unless specifically excluded.

  • How to exclude top-level keywords from export?

    Hi,
I have keywords organised into a hierarchical structure; I never want the top-level keywords to appear in the exported image but can't find a quick way to do it.
I can make it work by going to one of it's children and editing that keyword tag, unchecking the "export containing keywords" however I can't see a way of batch performing this action and the number of keywords I have make it impractical to do one by one.
I tried clicking on the top-level keyword and unchecking the export option. It still exports and is even listed when I make the keyword tags dropdown "Will Export".
If any of your gurus know the answer or can explain how I am misunderstanding the export terminology, please let me know...
    Thanks,
    Steve
PS I have tried exporting with & without option "Write Keywords as Lightroom Hierachy"

Thanks for that - its nearly right but I had tried doing that already and it didn't work.
The reason why is when simply unchecked the Export Containing Keywords and Export Synonyms remain ticked but greyed out. I assumed that having been greyed out they are no longer effecting the output in any way but I was wrong.
So, simply uncheck ALL the items in that dialogue box for top-level terms.
    Thanks again!

  • How does one not include parent keywords on Export?

I am new to Lightroom and have an issue regarding keywording. I put my keywords into my RAW files. Then I export the RAW to a jpg. The jpg always includes the parent keywords of the keywords I enter for the RAW file. I do not want this to happen!! I only want the keywords I enter. There seems to be no way to prevent this from ocurring (at least none that I have found).
So, is there a way to prevent the inclusion of parent keywords on export? In addition, is there a way to promote my sub-keywords so they no longer have parents?
    Thank you.

I have already tried unchecking the "include on export".
You need to uncheck "Export Containing Keywords" of the child keyword.  For example, if you have the hierarchy Places > United States, and you don't want "Places" exported, you need to uncheck "Export Containing Keywords" from the keyword "United States":
Also, in the File > Export dialog, be sure to uncheck the option Metadata > Write Keywords As Lightroom Hierarchy.  This will stop the child keywords from getting written into the exported metadata fully qualified; e.g. the keyword will be written as "United States" rather than "Places|United States".

  • Is it possible to backup LR keywords without export/import?

    Hi everyone,
I know that I can periodically export my entire keyword list as a .txt file, and that from this I could subsequently reimport this file in order to reconstitute the rather extensive hierarchical list I have carefully built up over the years in the event of a hard drive crash, new install etc.
What this approach relies upon however is that I routinely export my keywords to a file that I later backup. As I am constantly making incremental additions to my keyword list and know I will not be disciplined enough to export a new .txt file each time I am looking for an automated solution I can incorporate in my daily backup routine that backs up my entire keyword list every day so that incremental additions are captured.
I have a daily backup routine running from Syncback which backs up a number of directories. Included in this is my Application Data\Adobe\ folder, meaning all of my personal PS actions, and Workspace settings are backed up, as well as my LR Develop Presets folder and others. The Keyword Sets folder is backed up, but this simply holds the .lrtemplate files that correspond to the various keyword sets I have created. There is not, as far as I can see, a file within the %User\Application Data\Adobe\ folder that provides the entire keyword list.
Is there a single file for the keyword list that Lightroom creates, and if so what is its location? Or is this data embedded in XMP within the catalog?
    Thanks and hope that's clear,
    Dave M

    Thx DJ.
That's helpful to know. I do have LR set up to prompt me to backup the catalog every week which I almost always do, and the original Lightroom catalog folder is part of my routine backup, done each day. Good to know that the keywords are in there.

  • Is it possible to make the entire keywords hierachy export in the metadata?

I have created the following Keyword hierarchy in Aperture:
Location, Europe, Eastern Europe, Croatia, Dalmatia, Split
In Aperture I only need to add the bottom level 'Split' as a keyword and when I use the search function and insert a word from any of the higher levels (e.g. Croatia) It finds my picture.
My problem is that when I export that file the Keywords that get exported in the metadata is only the bottom level I first entered (ie Split). This is no use to me when using the files outside of aperture as I may still want to search at the higher levels.
Is there anyway to make the entire relevant keyword hierarchy be exported within the metadata without have to go back and add all the levels myself?

Unless things have changes, keywords are not hierarchical at all as a standard. The hierarchy in Ap is used just for managing keyword purposes only.
So it works within Ap but not when exported. You will have to assign multiple keywords or reestablish similar scheme in whatever other app that your are exporting the image to.

  • Maintain keyword when export photo to memory stick

When you assign a keyword to an image, is there a way to export the image such that the keyword (e.g. 'family') remains associated with it?
In other words, the ideal would be that you could export to a memory stick and the keyword would "stick" to that picture so that you could take it to another computer and use iphoto (or some other program) to identify that picture by keyword rather than filename.

    Terence,
Bad news. I went ahead and skipped 07 and upgraded to iPhoto8. It appears that either your advice was incorrect or this feature was broken in 08. Adding keywords within iPhoto08 does not actually change the EXIF metadata.
I added keywords within iPhoto08 and exported the image to the desktop. I then used MacMetaShow and found that the exif data was not modified. I did some Googling and found a few complaints that this is still a problem. I suppose it is possible that MacMetaShow is not reading the data correctly so I will try to find a different program to verify this.
Can anybody else corroborate this problem?

  • Keyword and Keyword SETS export option

We REALLY, REALLY need a way to export complete Keyword Sets and Keywords to a file.
I now know, sadly too late, that you can copy the folders from--C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge--to someplace safe and get a backup.
    But this is hardly intuitive.

Being new to bridge, the inability to export the keyword sets is one of the first most glaring feature omissions I have found.

  • Problem with Keyword Hierarchy Export

    Hello All,
I've noticing an issue with keyword export in Lightroom 4.0 64 bit Mac OS. In 4.0, as compared to 3.6, when I select uncheck the "Include on Export" box of a parent keyword not only is that keyword removed from the exported keywords but all parents keywords above it in the heirarchy. For example if my keyword hierarchy is as follows:
    Animals
         Vertebrates
              Reptiles
                   Turtles
                        Black River Turtle
In Lightroom 3.6 if I was to unckeck the "Include on Export" box of Vertebrates the exported keywords would include:
Animals, Reptiles, Turtles, Black River Turtle
While if I was to do the same the keywords would be:
    Reptiles, Turtles, Black River Turtle
Has anyone else exprianced this problem or does anyone know how to return the export behaviour to that of 3.6.
    Thanks

According to this (See B. Warde's response in the thread) http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/keyword_options_no_longer_available_ in_lr4 this was a behavior that was incorrect in 3.6 that has now been fixed.

  • Keywords not exporting correctly

OK, I have this tried multiple times in iPhoto '08. I export to JPEG and check the "keep titles and keywords". When I export the file to my Mac desktop and click "get info" on the file, it shows the keyword in the file info. However, if I open the file in Windows via Picasa Picture Manager or MS Office Picture Manager, the keywords do not stick (i.e., they are not visible). Is this normal? How do I make the keywords stick from iPhoto to a Windows-based photo editors? I am working on a photo project for my family, ost of whom are not Mac users. Thanks.

    P-Train
If you tick the box on the Export panel, iPhoto writes your keywords to the IPTC data of the file and uses your title as a filename. The IPTC data is standards compliant and (I would have thought) ubiquitous.
You can confirm this using an app like Informator
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/12792/informator
So, do these apps on Windows read this data?

  • Keywords after export - how to use them?

    Hi,
I´m organizing my RAW files using hierarchic keywords.
LR exports them to IPTC when I export them to jpeg.
Which database can easily make use of those keywords?
I don´t want to type all those categories again...
    Thanks in advance

    Katho,
This article may help you understand how to use and set the properties, as well as a general understanding of the TDMS file format in general.  Feel free to ask any more questions and I will be glad to assist you.

  • Preserving keywords when exporting then reimporting photos

    Hi all,
I have a lot of photos which are very big (8 megapixels at 95% quality) and they take a lot of space on my small MacBook. I would like to export them, delete from iPhoto, resize and then reimport. Unfortunately, I have added one keyword (Favorite) to some of these photos and I would not like to lose that information.
Any idea how I can preserve this single bit of information (i.e. the Favorite keyword) when doing my export, delete, resize, reimport routine?
    Thanks.

    Avinash
You can resize the pics plus write the keywords to the file if you export using the File -> Export dialogue.
You do realise that by doing this you will a: reduce the quality of your pics and b: defeat the non-destructive editing feature of iPhoto.
If space is an issue then I suggest that you run your library from an external disk - they are quite inexpensive now and portable ones are available.
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library Folder as an entity from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Retain keywords after exporting pictures?

I have created a 2nd iPhoto Library on an external hard drive and exported pictures that I don't need daily access to but I lost all of my keywords and event labels!  I have thousands of pictures that were all neatly organized which took forever and I really don't want to do it again. Any suggestions?

To manage multiple libraries iPhoto Library Manager - http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/ -  is a great tool
When you export photo if you check the options to include the metadata keywords are included - but you still lose the versioning - use iplm to move the photos

  • IPTC Title & Keywords on Export

I see that in iPhoto '08, it allows the exporting of IPTC titles on export if JPG or TIF is selected. As my photos are all JPG to start with, my concern is that this is regenerating the JPG photo which would result in greater loss. Can anyone tell me if I export from JPG to JPG, specifying that as the type will it just export the current pic with the IPTC data, or does it regenerate the JPG?

    Gary:
I'm not sure what it does. I had an original of 2.4 MB. When exported as a jpg, max quality, full size I got a 4.9 MB file. When using the high quality I got a 1.2 MB file. I've no idea why the mac quality jpg export was so large.
Comparing the original and maximum quality files at 200% I could not see any image quality difference. I used iView MediaPro to compare them side by side at full screen.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • How can I export Keywords when creating a Web Gallery?

I would like to include the keywords applied to an image when exporting to a Web Gallery. I have learned how to include the caption, and there's a possibility of copy and paste the keywords to the caption before export, but as you can tell, that adds unnecessary steps.
I suppose the larger question is "how do I customize the exported web gallery, and the content it includes?" but that will come next.
Big picture, I'm working on creating a searchable "proof book" and my initial thoughts are to create a custom html template which includes a Google search bar, and indexes / searches the keywords of each photo, exported to the web gallery.
Step one is to get the keywords to export ...

Right-click the page, choose View Page Info, and click the Permissions tab. There you can turn off automatic loading of images (uncheck Use default first to enable the controls). Any luck?
There might be a way to restore that more direct right-click menu item if you need it frequently, but I haven't researched it.
To clean up a page for printing, you also could consider an add-on like the following: [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/print-edit/ Print Edit :: Add-ons for Firefox]. Then you wouldn't have to re-enable images each time.

  • EXPORTING Photos WITH Keywords in Photo's metadata

Is there a way to export your pictures to a folder so you have all jpegs and each photo has all the keywords embedded in its metadata?
I started making a digital library for my company for reference purposes and we just released our first intranet. The intranet has its own file searching capabilities and i want to transfer the pictures from lightroom every so often to the intranet to enable emplyees to search the intranet via keyword without having to re-tag every picture in the intranet system.
    Is this possible?
Thanks and any help would be greatly appreciated,

When you export JPEGs from LR, the metadata including keywords, is exported within the image. Is this not what you are seeing? One exception is if "Minimize embedded metadata" is checked in the export dialog. Make sure that is not checked.
