Khmer Language, Fonts, Keyboard Layouts?

I'm trying to create web content and other documents in the Khmer language of Cambodia. Can anyone tell me where to get a keyboard layout for Mac OS?
How can I set the language to Khmer if I don't see it in the list?
Finally, will TextEdit or Pages allow me to type in Khmer characters and convert them to Unicode? I have the Limon Unicode font installed, but don't know how to use it. Can anyone help?

Can anyone tell me
where to get a keyboard layout for Mac OS?
This might be a source (you could write and ask about the status):
http://www.xenotypetech.com/osxCambodian.html
Or you could make one using this tool:
http://scripts.sil.org/cms/scripts/page.php?siteid=nrsi&itemid=ukelele
How can I set the language to Khmer if I don't see it
in the list?
If you mean System Preferences/International/Languages, then use the Edit button to add it. However, this will not really change anything on your machine, since no Khmer localization is available.
Finally, will TextEdit or Pages allow me to type in
Khmer characters and convert them to Unicode? I have
the Limon Unicode font installed, but don't know how
to use it.
TextEdit and Pages and similar OX apps produce Unicode by default. Could you provide the url for your font? I think Limon may not be Unicode. One source for Unicode fonts is here
http://www.travelphrases.info/gallery/Fonts_Khmer.html
Without a keyboard, you can input directly from the Character Palette. View = Unicode, Tab = Unicode Blocks, block = Khmer (or Tab = Unicode Table, 1780 and onward).
It may not be possible to display totally correct Khmer with the currently available fonts, which are designed for Windows. You will need to try and see how it works.
Let me know if you have more questions.
PS You can also work in OS9/Classic mode with tools like this:

  • [SOLVED] After a crash, my languages and keyboard layouts are gone!

So my CPU hanged, I rebooted, unfortunatelly a lot of my personal (and perhaps system) files were corrupted. All my personal GNOME settings were set to default. I had to wipe out the entire ~/.config/dconf folder in order to regain the capability to customize everything again. So all was left behind was my keyboard layout. So I went to `Regions and Languages` and... all but the system language (English) options were gone, including the layouts!
I just reinstalled the groups gnome and gnome-extra, no to avail
    What can I do?
edit: stupid me! The layouts were 'hidden' in the tiny window size of the thing!

  • Foreign Language Fonts/Keyboards For Word For Mac

If I purchase Word for Mac will I be able to import phonetic language keyboards which I created through Word on a PC?  If I can import them will I be able to use them, or will I ultimately be limited to the current language/keyboard options in OS?

For OS X you make your own keyboards using
    http://scripts.sil.org/ukelele
PC keyboard layouts are not usable.  But I don't know what you are referring to when you say "created through Word".  Best ask about that in the Word forum:

  • Farsi Persian fonts keyboard for iPad.

    Hi Everybody,
Does anybody know if Farsi or Persian language fonts keyboard can be use in iPad please?
I looked at the iPad's keyboard setting but the fonts are not included, I thought it may be available by another party.
    Thanks

You can ask Apple to add that here:

In the meantime, there are a couple keyboard apps which may be useful.  Go to the iTunes app store and search for Persian or Farsi

  • Khmer keyboard layout

Hello, I am trying to use the Khmer fonts and keyboard layout that came with my MacBookPro.  They were available to me through the Langauge & Text preferences in Settings.  My question is, how do I type the sub-consonants or feet of the consonants.  They do not appear anyplace on the keyboard that I can see, so I assume it is some combination of keys that is required to type them, but I cannot figure out what that combination is.  Does anyone use this font and layout?  And if you do, how do you type the sub-consonants or feet?  Thank you.

That is not right.  You should be able to wait as along as you want between the three keystrokes  consonant -- j --consonant.  It sounds like you might be trying to use MS Word for Mac.  If so, I recommend you use any other app (Pages, TextEdit, Nisus Writer, OpenOffice) instead, because Word does not support Indic or SE Asian scripts correctly and will just give you a lot of trouble.

  • How can i disable Illustrator from changing my language / keyboard layout.

I have an azerty laptop and a qwerty external keyboard. Switching from any application to illustrator changes the language and therefore also my keyboard layout. No other application does this.

    Thanks for the reply Mike
But i have a laptop with azerty layout (Belgian) and an external qwerty keyboard (Brittish).
So i need both languages selected in the System Pref >> Keyboard >> Input source
When "Brittish" is selected and i switch from Apple Mail to Photoshop to Skype to Chrome to ... it all works fine.
Only when i switch to Illustrator it also changes my language/layout from "Brittish" to "Belgian" and stays like that. I need to manually change it back in the menu in Finder.
I like the brittish better (with a qwerty keyboard) because of the shortcuts (eg. sqare brackets -> shortcuts for order in Illustrator are not even on an azerty (Belgian) keyboard).
    Any idea?

  • HT2435 How do I see fonts in a keyboard layout

How do I see fonts in a keyboard layout so I know which key to use to print a non-letter character, like in Wingdings, for example.

To add to Tom's excellent info. PopChar in its current form is unusable. At least if you're using non Unicode fonts, it is. You cannot in any way make it show you glyphs in a font that do not have Unicode values assigned to them, and that includes many Unicode fonts! As an example, here's Adobe's Caslon Pro Italic from Font Folio 11. It's a Unicode, OpenType font:
Note the large gap of glyphs with no Unicode value assigned to them between 02C7 and 00A4. None of those will ever appear in PopChar under any setting, so you would have no idea these swash, ligature, dingbat and other glyphs even exist. Ultra Character Map will show all of them.
This is just one of many, many Unicode fonts which contain glyphs without a Unicode value assigned to them.
I doubt you'll see a return to a Keyboard Viewer that will show the glyphs of a chosen font, so you'll have to rely on an app like Ultra Character Map, or (ugh!) Font Book so you can see all glyphs in one font.
Using the Character Viewer isn't a great choice. Yes, you can choose Dingbats to see all dingbats, but that's a concatenation of all dingbat glyphs. As I recall, it doesn't even tell you what font a dingbat is in when you select it. So if you have a half dozen or more such fonts open, you need to have all of them available all the time in order to be sure the one you chose is used in the document. Which means you also have to send every possible font that may include a dingbat you used to the printer to make sure they have it.

  • Change Keyboard Layout, But Keep Language

I have a MacBook with USA keyboard layout.
While installing, by mistake i selected Latin American keyboard.
Now, i want my language to still be "Spanish/Argentina", but they keyboard layout should be USA.
How can i do that? Note that I don't want to have many input keyboards and then have to switch between latin and english language.

I don't see an option to change "keyboard layout" only.
Do you really not see the Tab called Input Menu under system preferences/international? There are boxes to check for keyboard layouts, and one is called US.
Another Tab is called Language, and there you can put Spanish (actually Español) at the top to keep your OS in Spanish.
Another Tab, in the middle, is called Formats.
PS If you want to type Spanish with the US layout, you can use the Option/Alt key shortcuts. A list can be found here:

  • How to dislay other language font in Report Builder paper layout?

How to I display other language font (e.g. chinese) in Report Builder paper layout?
I have no problem displaying Chinese characters in web layout.

If your NLS_LANG is properly set to chinese character set and if you are choosing the right chinese fonts, in Reports builder, your report paper layout should display chinese characters properly.
If you are generating to PDF, then you might want to use PDF subsetting to display the chinese characters properly.
See the documentation on how to use PDF subsetting.

  • Input options: Language & Keyboard Layout

I've not found a complete answer to my problem.
I live in Paris and London. I work in English and French. I write emails and texts in English and French. I do not want to switch between keyboard layouts (EN and FR) just to change the language. I dont know the FR keyboard layout and it's unreasonable to think that I should have to switch to that layout just to get french input language support (predictive typing support).
How can I use the EN layout and type in French and English. I dont mind pushing a button to switch, like my Sony Erikson, i just hold down a key and it lets me switch input languages - but doesn't change my keyboard layout.
Am I wrong to assume this is unreasonable? What options do I have ?
    thanks

I have exactly the same problem and it is driving me crazy to such an extent I am considering abandoning the iPhone; I am British but I have to write alot of messages in French and the iphone is always replacing the correct French words with British ones!
It seems that Apple has not yet understood that one can work in several languages at once; I live in Switzerland so I am only offered French versions of software and hardware on the Apple site when I want British ones - it was impossible to buy a 17 inch laptop with a British keyboard here even though there are many thousands of English speaking residents.
If you here of a solution I should be very grateful to know about it

  • Modified Keyboard Layout (Unicode) not useable with different fonts

    Hi,
I have created a customized unicode keyboard layout with german basic layout and polish characters supplied with the "Alt" key. I activated the layout and was able to type in most of the OSx applications BUT only with fonts Times New Roman and Arial. When I switched to a differnet font and typed normal chars they were displayed in the font style selected. When I typed the Polish characters defined via ALT + A for example, these chars were displayed in TimesNew Roman, not in the selected font e.g. comic mt...
this was the case in ms office apps as well as in Apple Mail or other apps.
Please help me out. I need a functional basic German keyboard layout with aditional keys defined under ALT+ somewthat. How can I get this stuff working, maybe without using Unicode? Do I have to modify the generic .RSC files with ResEdit, and does somebody have an Idea how to do this.
Basically I need German keyboard with the mentioned addition of some polish keystrokes.
    Many thanks in advance
    thomas

There is nothing wrong with your keyboard. Your problem is probably caused by the fact that not every font has the characters needed for Polish. Just open up Character Palette, go to 0142, and look in the Font Variation panel. That will show you the fonts that do have the slashed l, for example. They should all work fine, except in Appleworks and Word X, which cannot do Unicode.

  • MS Word shows only US keyboard layout althought other languages are working

    hello all,
i have the following problem and i hope someone can help...
on my iMac G5 (where I have MS Office 2004 installed) i use the following four languages: US English, Russian, Czech, German. When I type something in Russian in Word i can use the littel on-screen keyboard (don't know what the name of that thing is in English) to find the right cyrillic characters etc. This works perfectly in every programme and for every language.
On my MacBook (where I have MS Office 2004 installed, too), however, I have the same four languages and I can use them all in Word but the little on-screen keyboard shows me only the US keyboard layout, no matter what language input I have chosen. This happens only in Word, not in any other programmes.
This means that on my MacBook I can use e.g. Spotlight, type something in Cyrillic and use the on-screen keyboard (which shows me the cyrillic keyboard).
In Word, however, I can type in Russian, but whenever I want to have a look at the on-screen keyboard it only shows me the US keyboard. (The same happens when I am typing in German or Czech and want to have a look at the corresponding keyboard - all I get is the US keyboard layout)
I spent hours on the net and changing the country settings - they are exactly as they are on my iMac - but to no avail ...
Any ideas how to get rid of that problem??
    Thanks!

Thanks Tom for the link, I found the answer there - it confirmed my suspicions: it is because of Rosetta.

  • Remove foreign language keyboard layout

How do i remove à keyboard layout?

Have you went to Settings>General>Keyboards>International Keyboards and tried to delete the unwanted keyboards? You only have the delete option if you have more than one keyboard.

  • Language Bar specific keyboard layout selection (ADM)

I am trying to get specific sub-types of keyboard layouts to deploy with GPO.
We have the GPO .adm and it is deploying and calling the correct keyboards, but doesn't seem to be able differentiate between the sub-types for the individual keyboards:
We can call Chinese (Simplified) PRC, but cant seem to have it specify anything within that keyboard layout - like the Chinese ZhongMa or Pinyin options.
Perhaps I'm thinking about this incorrectly
    CLASS USER
       CATEGORY "Keyboard Layout"
         POLICY "Keyboard Layout switching"
         KEYNAME "Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run"
           VALUENAME "internat.exe"
           VALUEON "internat.exe"
           VALUEOFF DELETE
           END POLICY
         POLICY "Keyboard layout"
         KEYNAME "Keyboard Layout\Preload"
             PART "Enable English" CHECKBOX
               DEFCHECKED
              VALUENAME "1"
               VALUEON "00000409"
               VALUEOFF DELETE
             END PART
PART "Enable Chinese (Simplified, PRC)" CHECKBOX

              VALUENAME "2"
               VALUEON "00000804"
               VALUEOFF DELETE
             END PART
    END CATEGORY

Ok!  So the best thing I've found by reg searching after selecting the subset is the following -
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CTF\TIP\
{81D4E9C9-1D3B-41BC-9E6C-4B40BF79E35E}  <----keys sets like this will populate depending on what you pick
For Example the following is used to enable the specific Chinese Simplified PRC Pinyin ABC input method keyboard
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\CTF\TIP\{81D4E9C9-1D3B-41BC-9E6C-4B40BF79E35E}\LanguageProfile\0x00000804\{FCA121D2-8C6D-41FB-B2DE-A2AD110D4820}]
    "Enable"=dword:00000001
This location will populate with keys relative to the layout subset you toggle with the checkbox.  They can be exported and scripted to run at the end of the adm or import through GPO at login.
I couldnt find this anywhere else on the interwebs.....hopefully its helpful to someone else.
