  • Khmer Language, Fonts, Keyboard Layouts?

    I'm trying to create web content and other documents in the Khmer language of Cambodia. Can anyone tell me where to get a keyboard layout for Mac OS?
    How can I set the language to Khmer if I don't see it in the list?
    Finally, will TextEdit or Pages allow me to type in Khmer characters and convert them to Unicode? I have the Limon Unicode font installed, but don't know how to use it. Can anyone help?

    Can anyone tell me
    where to get a keyboard layout for Mac OS?
    This might be a source (you could write and ask about the status):

    Or you could make one using this tool:

    How can I set the language to Khmer if I don't see it
    in the list?
    If you mean System Preferences/International/Languages, then use the Edit button to add it. However, this will not really change anything on your machine, since no Khmer localization is available.
    Finally, will TextEdit or Pages allow me to type in
    Khmer characters and convert them to Unicode? I have
    the Limon Unicode font installed, but don't know how
    to use it.
    TextEdit and Pages and similar OX apps produce Unicode by default. Could you provide the url for your font? I think Limon may not be Unicode. One source for Unicode fonts is here
    http://www.travelphrases.info/gallery/Fonts_Khmer.html
    Without a keyboard, you can input directly from the Character Palette. View = Unicode, Tab = Unicode Blocks, block = Khmer (or Tab = Unicode Table, 1780 and onward).
    It may not be possible to display totally correct Khmer with the currently available fonts, which are designed for Windows. You will need to try and see how it works.
    Let me know if you have more questions.
    PS You can also work in OS9/Classic mode with tools like this:

  • Khmer language and Oracle

    I am in charge of designing a web site portal for the Ministry of commerce of Cambodia. In the design of the web site portal, I am facing the difficulty that the users would be able to input the data in both Khmer and English languages.
    I am also considering to use Oracle 9i as the database of the transaction.
    Looking at Sun Web site, I have noticed that the language, Khmer, is not officially listed in the 'Supported Locales'. Also, there are several different applications, using different keyman conventions, making it nearly impossible to rely on harmonized inputs. As a result, the database would be overflowed by noises.
    I would like to know:
    1) How can I solve this issue?
    2) What do you suggest for developing a web site
    portal in these conditions?
    3) How to begin the process of getting Khmer
    language/locale support officially included
    Thanks

    Looking at Sun Web site, I have noticed that the

  • Unsupported locale / language (Khmer)

    The most recent JDK 1.4 doesn't support a language which I intend to use in developing some applications. The language is 'Khmer' (Cambodian). Khmer is included in Unicode since version 3.0.
    What is required to include this language in Java? Are there resources on how to begin such a process?

    What I meant to say is that the language, Khmer, is not officially listed in the 'Supported Locales' (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/guide/intl/locale.doc.html). What I'd like to know is what it would take to begin the process of getting Khmer language/locale support officially included.

    I tested it with the iBook on an iPad air. I can present the Khmer in the iBook but in some scenario, the iBook renders the Khmer as rectangle symbol.

  • Storing unicode (khmer) woes

    Hey all,
    I am working on an applicaiton that needs to accept the khmer language in various text inputs and mssql database. I have gotten most of it working, but still have one bug. I can display khmer characters if they are typed in. If I copy and paste khmer text directly in my database, and query for it, it comes out properly. The issue is when I take khmer text from a form field and insert it, then it is transformed into a bunch of ?????.
    Here are the steps I've taken so far to enable unicode on my website
    - Configured the datasource to accept high ascii values and unicode
    - Configured the database table columns to be of type nvarchar
    - Added
         <cfscript>
            SetEncoding("form","utf-8");
            SetEncoding("url","utf-8");
           </cfscript>
           <cfcontent type="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    to my application.cfm file.
    -Added <META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"> in the head of my pages.
    -Added <cfprocessingdirective pageEncoding="utf-8"> on my page that attempts to update the database.
    It's weird. If i copy and paste khmer directly in the DB and query for it that works fine. If I hard code some khmer on a page, that displays fine to. If I type in khmer into a form, and dump the form value back out, that works. It's only when a form value is saved to the database and pulled back out is it mangled. You can see an example here of what I'm talking about.
    http://www.psasmart.com/test.cfm
    And here is the code that makes that page.
    <cfscript>
            SetEncoding("form","utf-8");
            SetEncoding("url","utf-8");
    </cfscript>
    <cfcontent type="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    <META http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">
    <cfprocessingdirective pageEncoding="utf-8">

         </Cfquery>
         This is the same text as entered in the form but saved to the db and queried for then displayed:  <h2>#getKhemer.khmerReadWriteTest#</h2>

    you should already know the answer to this. btw it's not just khmer, it's any
    unicode encoded text.
    first the usual suspects: what db driver? 100% sure you're using the correct dsn?
    then this caught my eye: SET khmerReadWriteTest ='#form.text#'
    uh either use cfqueryparam (good practice besides you turned on unicode in the
    dsn anyway) or unicode hinting.:
    SET khmerReadWriteTest=N'#form.text#'
    guess you didn't look close enough at my "greek test" code

    In IE it shows as a blank page (white), in Firefox  it's all there.  I'd suspect a CSS issue.

  • Khmer keyboard for iOS 9 or 10 if not 6.1.4?

    Dear all Cambodian colleagues and Apple team,
    I have long been waiting for the official Apple iOS to integrate the Khmer language and keyboard layout into its official iOS. However, up to now Apple has not add this update to its latest firmwares. It is very annoying not to have one more language for the common usage.
