  • Kiba-dock/Akamaru [RESOLVED]

I installed pennega's PKGBUILD for Akamaru (Kiba-dock) from AUR - including making the change to PKGBUILD for the new svn as pointed out by low - and it compiled okay but I'm getting the following problem when I try to load it.
    [mac@thinkpad ~]$ kiba-dock
    (kiba-dock:13783): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_type_class_add_private: assertion `private_size > 0' failed
    Error (dialog.c @ line 209):
Failed to load Plugins from /usr//lib/kiba-dock!
Please install the Plugins and Kiba under the same Prefix
    FATAL (main.c @ line 1270):
    Failed to load Plugins
    [mac@thinkpad ~]$
I'm not that good when it comes to compiling from source so I'm not sure what I need to do next.  Could someone please point me to the right repo/src directory that I can svn to and install the Plugins and Kiba?

I fixed it myself.  I had to install akamaru, kiba-dock and kiba-plugins from AUR (including hacking their PKGBUILD files to get the latest versions and the right directories).  It's working now.

I did a force close on Safari and after rebooting my macbook pro, i no longer see the Safari icon on the dock.  How do i get i back?

If you can't get dragging to work, just click on Safari from your Applications folder, and it should appear in the dock. Then you can right-click on the icon and PIN it permanently there.

my macbook pro started acting strange after a safari reset.
the mouse no longer: animates the dock, activates hot corners or selects pages from safari 'top sites' (without a hassle). attempts to reset dock and hot corners from preferences has been fruitless
the mouse also gets 'stuck' in logic precipitating force quits.
i run osX 10.6.8 on a 2007 macbook pro that has had 2 motherboards replaced autumn 2010.
my troubleshooting has been: restart, pRam and safe boot, also checking a 'test' account to find the same issues extant.
pRam restart caused airport to quit and say there is no airport card, and wouldn't respond untill another reboot.
macbook pro 15" 2.4 GHz intel core duo.2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
i have treated this book with care, yet run logic pro studio to the limit of this book's abilities.
    what shoud i do?

You don't say which year you have, however...
...there are known problems with the mid-2010 models (see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4088?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US) as well as early and late 15" 2011 models (see https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4766577?tstart=0).
Apple has taken ownership of the problems with the 2010 model but, unfortunately, the free logic board replacement for that model has probably long expired for you - three years after date of purchase.
One the 2011 models Apple has admitted no defect. You'll just have to skim the articles to get an overview of the problems that people are having (usually showing up as screen glitches at first and then going downhill from there).

  • After updating iOS on my iPod touch 4th gen my Philips speaker dock DC290B/37 no longer charges the iPod.  It will play music but not charge, is there anyway to find out if Apple is working on an update/fix?

after updating iOS on my iPod touch 4th gen my Philips speaker dock DC290B/37 no longer charges the iPod.  It will play music but not charge, is there anyway to find out if Apple is working on an update/fix?

    Try:
    - Reset the dock
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Otherwise you are out of luck. Apple is not making any more update for the 4G.
Also check with Phillips. Maybe they have an firmware update available

my ipod nano 7th generation....works fine as long as it's on the docking station. when off the station, the display goes dark after a few seconds. it's fully charged. please help. this is the heartbeat of my business. thanks

In the worst case, it's still under warranty (all 7th gen nanos are still under one year from purchase).
So, you disconnect it from power, and it almost immediately goes dead?  You can try a Restore... but it doesn't sound like the type of problem a Restore will fix.
You should probably have it looked by Apple Tech Support.  If there's an Apple Store nearby, you can take it to the store's Genius Bar.  To avoid waiting, you can make a reservation at the store's web page

JBL Radial dock no longer charges my  iPhone 4 after iOS 5 upgrade however I still Can play music.
    Any help on that ?

OK a bit of success over the weekend. Not sure if it will help you guys. So i have an IPHONE 3gs and it would not play any music through the JBL but it would ring (through the JBL speaker) and charge while connected.
I sync'ed through itunes and made sure i had the latest version of both itunes and the IOS on the phone. Then pushed some podcasts and albums down from my computer to the iphone through the computer.
This must have sone something as now everythign works fine. all radio and music apps now play through the JBL.
    Hope this helps.

At least for x86_64, libelf seems to be a dependency. Throws an error about libelf.so.0 when starting screen if it's not installed.
Comment by: Ranguvar on Sun, 11 Oct 2009 04:00:10 +0000
The three lines at the end of the install scriplet are unnecessary now and can cause problems apparently, please remove :)
Also, I cannot confirm libelf dependency, both by using ldd and trying removing libelf, so it should be kept out.

  • Key stroke to hide and ahow dock no longer works

I can no longer hit the keystoke (appleoptiond) to hide and show the dock. I can hold the key combination down and make the Dock disappear, but when I release the keys, the dock re-appears (think of an icon/pogo-stick). I'm running 10.4.6 on Dual 2ghz G5 . . . It worked just last week . . . any thoughts?
P.S. I've run both Onyx and Applejack, and reset both the p-ram and keyboard shotcut defaults . . .

    Yadz,
And when you hit the same key combo, does the doc re-appear? Unfortunately-Yes...
If the plist removal did not work there is one more simple troubleshooting step you can try. Open Activity Monitor, find Dock and use the "Quit Process" command. The Dock will relaunch automatically. You could also repeat the plist removal procedure.
Are there any Keyboard Shortcuts in the Keyboard & Mouse System Preference that can explain the problem?
If none of that works create another user test account. Can you replicate the errant behavior in that new test account?
    ;~)

  • Ical date in dock no longer updating

Ever since aug 1st the ical icon in dock isn't showing the current date. Its nothing major but it was the cool part about the new version in leopard. how can I fix this? I've looked for something in preferences but I don't see anything. What can I do?

It's a long shot, but have you tried removing the iCal icon from the Dock and then re-creating it by dragging the iCal application from your Applications folder back onto the Dock?

  • Did I install the AUR packages correctly and safely ?

    Hello
I'm interested in several packages in AUR, but to be honest, it's the first time that I install an AUR pkg without using the yaourt frontend.
I just installed archey, I tried to follow the wiki but I would like to know if I followed all the steps correctly or not...
    I've done:
    sudo pacman -S fakeroot
    wget http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/archey/archey.tar.gz
    wget http://aur.archlinux.org/packages/archey/archey/PKGBUILD
    makepkg -s
[makepkg -s installed git, and perl-error through pacman I supposed]
    sudo pacman -U archey-20100704-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz
    My questions are:
1] I've done "sudo pacman -U archey-20100704-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz" but the wiki said "$ pacman -U /path/to/pkg.tar.gz" => because the prompt said something like "only root can perform this action" when I was not using sudo
2] After the installation, I've done "pacman -Qdt" and it appeared that git, and perl-error were not longer used, so I removed them => Is it a mistake ?
3] How can I update the AUR packages when a newer version will be released ?
Sorry for my english, and thank you for helping me understanding

In fact, I wanted to say: How can I update the packages installed in my computer from AUR (example: archey) when the maintainer will update his program ?
Thanks again, it's nice to learn news things about Arch, AUR, and Linux ^^
    Read what Allan said again.
You want an AUR helper, like packer, clyde or bauerbill, for example. ;)

  • I-Touch with I-POD accessories, no longer powers the unit

We have three I-POD classics in the family, which we use with the Pioneer Super Tuner IIID car stereo system, and two speaker docking systems for listening to the I-POD. I just discovered that the new I-Touch uses different voltage, which is only about 0.5vdc different.
Why Apple designed a new power supply for the new I-Touch, which means that now the new I-Touch will not be powered by any of the accessories which Apple and third party companies make, is absurd. I can understand from a marketing point of view that they want to sell separately the new power supplies, but did they think of all of the accessories on the market that will no longer power the new I-Touch? What a disappointment

Actually, it uses completely different pins and completely different voltages - +5VDC USB for the 2G touch and 4G nano and +5VDC USB and +12VDC FireWire for previous iPods (not I-Pods).
Your old charger uses only the FireWire pins which are not used on the new touch (not I-Touch).

  • My dock no longer works properly

I cannot, for instance, get the little menu that appears when you hover over an icon that gives you options like remove from dock ... The items no longer bounce up and down, either. I believe I deleted some files when using some software to restore some unrelated files. I used a program called Pacifist, and it worked great except at one point it asked me a question about some files and that was when I think I made the wrong choice that affected my dock. Anyone know what steps I could take now to restore my dock to perfect shape?

    Hello garage:
As it is difficult to know what you have done, I think I would run an archive and install (and then not use things like pacifist unless you know what the result will be):

  • Suggestion regarding website usability, and the AUR

Hey everyone, lately i've been doing some thinking on how to improve the website and integrating things as easily and best as possible. Before the flames on this being commercial software begin, just hear me out.
With minimal - no effort and hacking of the source code we can have these features:
    · Single login/registration for everything below
    · Announcements on front page piping automatically piping discussion to it's own thread in specified forum
    · Blogs
    · Gallery
    · shared login with mediawiki
    · An improved AUR system, with an accurate way to gauge package usage (which i'll describe and show below)
    · Shop
    · Donations system which displays in real time and adds user to a thank you page (unless they choose to be anonymous)
    · Forum system lightyears better than phpbb (current info and userbase simple to import)
    · Very powerful (and easy) administration/privelage system
    · RSS Feeds on every Area you choose to have them for
    · even our user map can be integrated with no effort
    · mailing list threads piped to specified forum and vise versa
What i'm proposing is vBulletin. An owned license (one time lifetime fee) is only 160$, and i feel with the extra donations this is well worth it, in pretty much every way i can think of.
    AUR system:
It probably will be easiest to show by example, so here it is - http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthre … did=108515 . The best feature this offers us (along of course with being centralized), is the way the voting would work. Right now, i know i'm guilty, but i just get too lazy and forget to always click to vote on a package i use. And also alot of the time i stop using said package.
With this system, you click install, when you have installed a package, the contributor can see exactly who installed and who hasnt (Which is good as a way to nudge people who post for support, yet havent clicked install/voted). People will be much more likely to vote/click install a package here, since doing so will enable them to be notified via email every time the package is updated. and when they uninstall and no longer wish to be notified of updates, they just click uninstall.
I know currently we have the rss feed for the aur which does similar, but afaik it only shows new packages and not updated ones?. Which can be a pain to always check to stay up to date.
Anyways, give it some thought. I've been using and hacking up vB for quite some time, so if you guys have any questions on other areas, just ask. I'm posting this to the mailing list as well. Don't take this as a flame on the current website efforts. I just feel this would make things easier to manage and stay organized, and better for the end user for the same reason.
Thanks for making it through my novel,
    -- Chris O'Reilly

Ok guys, I'm gonna butt in here, I've seen this happen several times before.  While you can discuss all you want, I guarantee nothing will happen unless somebody actually chooses to do something. We talked for ages about a wiki, but it didn't happen until rasat set it up. We talked for ages about a NEW wiki, but that didn't happen until cactus set it up. We talked for ages about forum mods, but that didn't happen until dibble set it up. We talked for ages about Arch64 before syamajala and now andyRTR took on the project. We talked for ages about a custom kernel PKGBUILD before I and later dibble tackled the project. We've talked for ages about gui frontends to pacman and people have set them up and the project usually falls apart, barring jacman. and so on.
Now, if anyone is *serious* about this project, and I mean serious as in you've thought about it and realize that its HUGE, I would suggest one of two things:
    1) talk to Judd and see if he has any ideas
    2) start hacking something together and show it to Judd
Now, from previous experience in Arch-related development, I can guarantee that Judd won't just accept or assign someone to start this project. What he will do, however, is provide answers and feedback if someone is working on it, and if he likes the results, he will accept them as well. This is typical arch development.
I would say that since the website is such a visual first impression of Arch, Judd might want more input into it, but I doubt this is true.... if he was that concerned, something would have been done with the front page before now. ;-)
Basically, I'm saying talk all you like, but it won't do any good.
