Kicking off download and install Updates remotely

Hello,
I know that in Windows 2012 you can launch sconfig and then run "Download and Install Updates" which I have found to be an extremely useful tool.  Can I launch this (or a similiar) command remotely?  We have a patching system, however
I am not 100% confident in it.  In the event that it failes I would like to be able to manually run Windows Update remotely on multiple servers, possibly a list from a .csv file.
Can this be down through powershell?
Thanks.

I haven't tried the approach of launching sconfig remotely to try and install updates, but use the Microsoft.Update.Session COM object frequently for update installations. My initial thought is that you wouldn't be able to do so remotely because the process
launched remotely would be a non-interactive process and sconfig is most likely using the microsoft.update.session COM object for the installations. Again, not tested but based on my experience with this type of thing.
The Microsoft.Update.Session COM Object (more specifically, the CreateUpdateInstaller() method) doesn't allow for installing updates remotely and this is by design.
Reference: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/aa386863(v=vs.85).aspx
It requires an interactive process and has checks internally to test for this. Even with PowerShell remoting, this
will fail. I imagine that you could still download the updates remotely, but installing is a different beast all together. You will have to look at using a scheduled job or PSExec to create a remote service that can then run the code as in interactive process.
I have written a tool called
PoshPAIG that can do a lot to help install updates remotely (uses psexec) but doesn't yet support downloading and installing updates (someone posted updated code on my codeplex site that does allow for this) that may
be useful to you.
If a UI isn't your thing, I also have
PowerShell approach available that you could use as well.

  • How can I get my iPod touch to download and install updates to apps?

I am having difficulties with getting updates for my apps to download and install.  When requested, I supply my password for my apple ID, and select "update".  It immediately jumps to the screen with my icon, and then gives me a status bar and says "waiting" for an unending amount of time.
I have tried power cycling our wireless router and modem, power cycling the iPod, deleting the apps from all locations then syncing the iPod, and reinstalling the apps.
Nothing I try seems to get me out of this never ending cycle of inability to download and install updates.
    Any ideas?

How are you accessing the mail on the laptop? If you are using a mail client, Outlook, etc, then the mail is being downloaded to the laptop.
If you want to read them on the iPod, then in the account on the iPod, make sure that you turn off delete from server, then after looking at them on the iPod, delete the messages. You will then be able to pick them up on the laptop. Or, as Illaass said, read them with a web client.

  • Can the Adobe Update Server be used to automatically download and install updates?

Can the Adobe Update Server be used to download and install updates to Creative Cloud apps automatically without admin or user intervention?
I've noticed there is a Adobe Remote Update Manager, but I would rather all the updates and installs happen in the background.

    Hi Nicholas,
Please check the link given:- https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/packager/using-remote-update-manager.html
Let me know in case you require more detail on the topic.

Yes I do agree on waiting.  I have the same problem. However at the end of my download, message was do you want to repair or delete iTunes .  I chose repair, and then said was not successful. I have no idea.  So you idea jpozuk is the best one, in my opinion.
We'll have to play the waiting game.

  • IMac G5 hangs when downloading and installing updates to 10.5

My iMac G5 hangs when I try to download and install the recent large update to 10.5. Message says restart to complete the installation, but after restart the messages says it is configuring the software, but progress bar shows no progress after several attemps, the longest being over 12 hours. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob.

Repair permission & restart your computer. Try reinstalling the OS update from the combo installer if you have not already done so instead of using Software Update.
If successful, make sure you repair permissions again after all installations are completed.

  • How do I download and install updates i receive

Every so often I get a blue box that pops up and says HP Update.  An update is availavle. Would you like to download and install the update now?
I don't know how to do it... I tried clicking on the blue box but it didn't help at all ; /

    Hello SissyT
You can update it using iTunes, you would still need access to the internet to perform the update.

  • I cant download and instal updates on any of myy programs

I updated firefox some months ago and since that update I have
1 not been able to download and install AVG 2011
    2) unable to download and install I Tunes Update

Try resetting your iPod by pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.  Then try to update your Apps again.  Where does it crash at?  Are you able to enter in your Apple ID password?
If nothing else, update the Apps in iTunes and then sync the newer version to your iPod.

  • I download and install updates, but the CC installer asks again- and again- and again

    Hi
No matter how many times I download and install the updates that I want, the installer (a few hours later, or the next day) will indicate that I have some new updates to download. When I look, they are the updates that I downloaded the previous day, or a few hours earlier. In other words, the installer is not recognising my updates. Either that, or Adobe is coming up with an update every few hours… :-)

  • Can't download and install Updates for my brand-new (bought today) Photoshop CS6

It looks as though it's blowing up at the very end of the download process.  I've tried a couple of times. Any ideas as to what to do?  Is there anyway to get direct help from Adobe?
    Thanks
    Bob Chapman

Why are you installing through the Adobe Application Manager?  Did you purchase Photoshop or subscribe?  If you purchased Photoshop then please see http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1006208?tstart=0&promoid=KBHJQ for information on how to download and install your purchased software.

  • How can I stop Firefox from automatically downloading and installing updates?????? UN-Checking box when installing for auto DOESN"T WORK!!!!

Have many performance problems with latest versions of Firefox.
I remove fFrefox and reinstall 18.0 and everything is fine until Firefox automatically updates to 28.x.
I remove check in box when asked if want Firefox Maintenance installed, but downloads updates anyway and next time I bring-up then problems are back!!!
I have to start over again and never X Firefox.
I just want the basic Firefox - simple, FAST and WORKS !!!
Never liked IE - but may have to go back to it.
Chrome is also automatic download update.
using XP, but may have to rethink
    Thanks for any help.

What kind of problems do you have with the Firefox 28 release?
Did you check your security software (firewall, anti-virus) to make sure that the new version in allowed?
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/fix-problems-connecting-websites-after-updating
You can create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

I can't downlaod on the software update.

  • Can't install new apps but can download and install updates just fine!

    Hi everyone,
I want to install the trial of After Effects CC, and have successfully downloaded the trials of Premiere Pro, SpeedGrade and Photoshop, but when I try to install After Effects, I get a "Waiting..." message and then after a few minutes I get a "No Internet Connection" message. This also applies to other apps I've tried (Illiustrator, for example).
I've done what the help docs have said, such as turning off my firewall, rebooting, etc.,. None of it works, nothing will install (except app updates work just fine!), so I'm very confused. I obviously have a connection, so I don't know where to go from here
I am reaching the end of my trials (I only have 4 days left on my Premiere Pro trial, which was the one app I downloaded first), would that have anything to do with it?
    Can anybody help me out?
    Thanks!
    -Jeremy

  • Downloading and installing updates later

    Hi there.
I'm sorry if this question has been asked before.
Did try searching but didn't really know what to look for.
    Anyway.
With Software Update, I decided to do the download option and leave the installing till later.
    I downloaded the updates.
And then later went into Software Update to do the installing of them. I clicked 'Install' the items but then it started redownloading all the updates again. I stopped it and tryed again, but it happened again.
I decided to install the updates by just loading the package files in the library folder.
This seemed to work, and itunes has been updated...but now wenever I load Software Update, it still wants to redownload the updates.
Does anybody know what to do?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks so much.
    Phil.

If you use the download only option of Software Update the downloaded packages are place in the /Library/Packages/ folder. Software Update does not then install those packages at a later time. You have to manually install the packages. After they are installed a receipt should be saved in the /Library/Receipts/ folder which is used by Software Update to determine what is currently installed on the computer. If a receipt for a package is found then Software Update will not attempt to download the update.
