Kid games (ages 3-5) options for mac

A friend has a good Blues Clues game that his 3 year old can play on his PC (matching colors and shapes and stuff). I've been trying to find something similar for my 3 year old daughter who only thinks of the mac as something to use to talk to her grandmother (iChat) with and does not get the concept of pushing buttons or using a mouse.
I've been checking stores and can't seem to find anything. Also searching on line but seem to only get PC options.
Question - Is there anybody with kids that has a suggestion? Ideally I would prefer to either order online or download online.
Thanks,
Tony

You may want to check my games jumpstation website:

Somewhere in there might be a game that is appropriate.
Also, a good software that isn't quite a game, but your daughter may like is Golly Gee blocks:

I don't have kids, but know I would have loved this as a kid!

  • Is there any way to install age of empires 2 for mac onto macbook pro?

I recently acquired the age of empires 2 for mac game and tried to install it but it doesn't seem to read it. I have a 13" macbook pro (10.9.4 mavericks). Is there any way I could install and play this game on my laptop?

Your post somehow found its way to a little-viewed forum for Apple hardware made before 1998. I have asked the Hosts to move you to a more active and appropriate forum for your product.

If you can, you want MATCHED, TRIPPLE CHANNEL, ECC registered ram with the same timings as the original ram.  I found that 1333mhz ram of that type is a bit easier to find these days (any faster ram will work in the your macpro).  Anyhoo, I found 12 GB of ram 3x4gb (oh yeah, and tripple channel ram likes to be installed in three's so if you can stick with only 3 chips of ram unless you are making it out or something.) for like $150.  If you keep your eyes pealed you can get a great deal.

  • "system restore" option for Macs?

I'm sorry for the PC lingo, but I'm really new to Macs and I'm having a real problem. I tried to run a software update today on my Macbook, the computer froze during installation and now everything seems to be going crazy and not working!
Is there an option on Macs similar to "system restore" on a PC that will allow me to revert my computer to the way it was this morning, before all my problems occurred?

A similar thing happened to me. I purchased 8 days before the upgrade. I had the $1499 black MB. When I got the email about new models and I saw their new features I felt upset. Rather than fuming about it I picked up the phone and called the Apple store. I spoke to the manager who graciously agreed to exchange mine out for no restocking fee. I had been using Time Machine, so even though I had the thing loaded up, I did one last back up. I then re-installed a clean OS to get rid of my personal data.
The best part was bringing the new one home last night. I started it up, attached the Time Machine drive and used migration assistant from the word 'GO'. It was the simplest computer upgrade I have ever done! I did have to repair permissions and re-install my network printer, but everything else JUST WORKED! Including Parallels and my Win XP.
I am very pleased at my Apple customer service experience. This is my 3rd Apple computer in the last 1.5 years. I have been using PC's since '91 when I converted from an Apple 2C. I have had a few challenging issues, especially with my iMac, but I can't see ever going back to a PC at this point.

  • What is the EFI boot option for mac, and why is my Mac having problems with it?

I just updated my 2012 Macbook Pro to 10.9, and I am having some problems with it. I have a bootcamp partition on it and regularly awitch between mac and windows, and 2when I went to switch nack to my Mac side, It said EFI boot nstead of the regular Macintosh HD. When I choose that option, the aple logo comes up and progress bar appears. Once the progress bar finishes, the computer shuts off and doesnt do anything. When I turn it on again, it just starts the efi boot again and shuts off when it finishes. Why is this happening and what can I do to fix this. All help is extremely appreciated.

That usually happen because the OS X partition got corrupted. Abiotu the only fix for that is to reinstall OS X and to do that you might have to completely erase the drive or repartition it as one partition. Which will wipe out the Windows side. So backup everthing you can before you start.

  • Is Fusion 1TB upgrade best option for Mac mini 2014?

I am in the process of finalising the purchase of a 2014 Mac mini. Bearing in mind the once only nature of the purchase, I  am going  for highest spec.
My question is will the expensive Fusion 1TB option offer best overall performance? Will be used with Thunderbird Apple display.

At all costs avoid the standard hard drive - it is a huge performance bottleneck. The Fusion drive is fantastic if you have lots of stuff and want to avoid using an external hard drive to store all that stuff. If you have nowhere near 256GB of stuff and don't anticipate taking lots of digital photos, video, or downloading music, then the SSD is a better choice. While the fusion drive provides superior speed compared to the internal drive it cannot match the speed of an SSD once you've added enough data and programs to fill the SSD portion of the drive. (That's a simplistic explanation but accurate none-the-less.)
When I purchased my 2012 iMac I chose the Fusion drive because I wanted to avoid using an external drive for my data. I'm happy with the trade-off of speed vs size with the iMac and the lack of wires all over the place. Had I not been interested in avoiding the snake nest of wires I'd have chosen the SSD and external drive.

  • Save picture as... option for macs

I'm not sure if this belongs in this section or not but i'm brand new to mac and the forums so please bare with me! hehe.
When using other computers that are not a mac you can visit a web page and right click on a picture and 'save picture as..." to a folder on you computer.
i can't seem to do that with my MacBook.
there must be a way to save pictures from the internet right?
also I haven't been able to find a copy and paste option.
    Please help me!
    Thank you!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Because the MacBook does not have a built-in right-click button, you must invoke the contextual menu a different way. You can hold down on the "control" key while clicking on something and the menu should appear. Then you can save a picture from a Web page to your computer.
There are several other ways to customize the contextual menu, if you like.

  • Cant't find 32-bit option for Mac OSx

I'm running PSD 5 on OSx 10.7. I'm trying to edit a photo and when I try to find the 32-bit option, it's not there. I went to the finder in the Photoshop application for the box to check off 32-bit and it wasn't there. Do I need a specific plugin for this purpose?

If you click the Photoshop CS5 application icon in the Finder and Get Info you will be able to select  Open in 32-Bit Mode.
If you're not seeing the above you are probably selecting the FOLDER, you need to select the application itself.

  • Cable modem options for Mac Pro/OS X 10.5?

I'm going to upgrade to cable modem and want to purchase my own modem rather than lease. I'm looking at the Motorola SB5100 series. A few years ago, some serious computability issues were reported for all models in this series except the SB5120:
    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16772229
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=568881
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=614605
Are these computability issues still present in Intel-based Macs running on OSX 10.5? Also, if there are computability issues, is that only true with direct connections, or is it also the case if I'm using a router?
Just wondering, because a few other reports I've read describe the SB5120 as buggy compared to the SB5101 model. So I just want to make sure I'm going with the one that's going to give me the best speed and least problems.

I just bought today and installed a Motorola SBG900 modem that replaces both the leased Comcast modem and a Netgear wireless router (I'm typing this with my laptop using the wireless connection). See my earlier post at:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1620688&tstart=0
It's a little pricey but its worth it to eliminate the extra cables and cords. If your cable service is Comcast, you will have to call to have them log in your new modem's HFC MAC ID (the Motorola installation disk doesn't work on Macs).

  • Graphics card upgrade options for Mac Pro (early 2008) Model 3.1

    Hi,
What are my options if I wish to upgrade the stock graphics card? I seem to remember there being one that was about £80 but I can no longer check as the site is only listing the 2009 mac pros now.
Any assistance would be gratefully received!

    Your current options are:
    ATI 2600
    Nvidia 8800
    Nvidia 5600
    Or third-party ATI 3870 Mac/PC Edition.
Presumably the new ATI 4870 will work in the Early 2008 MP, but requires OS X 10.5.7 which is not yet released. You can find benchmarks at Bare Feats.

  • Best GPU options for Mac Pro 2009/2010

hey guys Im Cinema4D and Photoshop user, currently there is stock graphics card (120GT) on my 2009 Mac Pro. Im thinking of upgrading it, because this card doesnt suit my needs. What would be best I could get for my use? Should I stick with something like ATI Radeon HD 5770 or 5870, or should I go beyond that? Also I found a great deal on ATi Firepro V8800 which is PC card. What dissadvantages will be if Ill go with a PC card?

If you really and truly want to know what AMD GPUs are supported in a specific version of OSX, AMD and Apple have been kind enough to let you check.
    S/L/E to the AMD family.
Start with "AMD7000Controller.kext" and right click it.
Show contents leads you to the "info.plist"
Open in an editor, then expand "iokitpersonalities"
    Then "controller"
    Here you will see "IOPCIMatch"
These are the device ids that the 7000 driver works on.
    "0x26001002 0x22001002 0x67901002 0x67981002 0x679A1002 0x679E1002 0x67801002 0x68201002 0x68211002 0x68231002 0x68251002 0x68271002 0x682D1002 0x682F1002 0x68391002 0x683B1002 0x683D1002 0x683F1002 0x68001002 0x68011002 0x68061002 0x68081002 0x68101002 0x68181002"
    "1002" identifies AMD
The other number is the Device ID. Each GPU has a specific one. (except for 7970 and D700 which share one and 7870 and D500 and R7 somethingorother and D300)
Anyhow, looking at the list I know two by heart.
"6798" is the AMD 7970  and "679A" which is the 7950 (underlined and BOLDED)
So, you need to go to the GPU Database at TechPowerup and find the cards you want to know about and look through that list.
Note that being in that list doesn't GUARANTEE that a driver is complete. (The R9 290x is in one of them and it doesn't work) But, on the other hand, if it isn't in any of the driver lists, I can ABSOLUTELY, 100% GUARANTEE that it WON'T work.

  • HT1998 Airport Utility 6.2 no options for managing MAC filtering

Any ideas how I can manage add a MAC address that is allowed?

The AirPort Utility does not offer an option for MAC filtering. At least not directly. What it does provide is an option for Timed Access Control where wireless clients' MAC addresses are used to determine which can connect.
You will find this option on the Network tab > Timed Access Control

  • Slideshow option for PSE mac version?

Does anyone know if and when we can expect a slideshow option for mac PSE?  I switched over from PC to MAC in a very laborious process and am annoyed that this feature was missing.
Can anyone recommend a program or solution that works with PSE to create slideshows that would be similiar to the PSE PC version?

Nobody can say about that except adobe, but I wouldn't hold your breath. As for substitutes you can make slideshows in imovie and iphoto, or there's fotomagico, which is probably the most popular non-apple program, and several others. If you have a computer that came with idvd (not on newer macs), that does nice slideshows, too.

Windows is a operating system from Microsoft, that costs more money.
OS X is the operating system on your Mac, it came free with the Mac you bought.
Parallels and VMFusion are paid virtual machine software that can run other operating systems like a programs inside other operating systems, there is a performance penalty, but it's easier for new users and those who don't need the full power of the hardware.
There is also VirtualBox, it's free virtual machine software with less features, but doesn't suffer from forcing you to upgrade for more money like the commercial versions do.
Virtual Machine software has the ability to run other operating systems and a large portion of their software, which makes it attractive.
There is Apple's BootCamp, it's also free, which allows one to section their boot drive space (called a partition) and install Windows 7 (only) there, this way one can directly boot a Mac into Windows 7 for better performance for 3D games and other heavy CPU uses. Although it's easy, it can be a lot more problematic if there is a problem.
So you have those choices to run plenty of software, from Windows based programs, to Mac ones to Linux ones too.
Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine?
