Kids messed up emac need help
on a friend of mine's computer needs help but most things require admin passwords and the kids forgot it!
Couple of things they have applications outside the apps folder. Also the named the hard drive mac* with the asterisk; they like to put funny characters like that where they shouldn't.
The computer has slowed to a crawl. It starts up, etc, but the spinning ball occurs almost continually.
Is there any way to reset the admin password from one of the other users?

If one of the other users has administrator privileges, yes. If not, no, nor could you enable the Root user without admin privileges. You'll have to boot from the Mac OS X installation CD and reset the password there:

Once the password is reset, suggest to your friend that he set up restricted accounts for his kids to use. Letting kids use an account with administrator privileges is a recipe for disaster.
It may be that with all the various possible things the kids could have messed up, your friend's best resort may be to back up any important files (if that's possible), erase the disk and start afresh, restoring the OS and all the apps and then securing the system against prying fingers.

so my emac has been freezing so i have been doing a series of things to fix it which include
-restoring the software
-reinstalling the os (which is now OS 10.3.4)
-running in safe mode
-verifying and repaing disk permissions
-performing apple hardware test ( no hardware problems)
however now i can only get my desktop to come up in safe mode. I'm guessing it is a software program. I bought Spring cleaning 8.0 to help clean things off however it wouldn't work on my computer even though at the time of installation I had 10.3.9.
what do i do now? I'm very confused and would like to fix it myself before i drop $200-$300 to have someone fix it. Help!What model eMac (e.g., CPU speed) do you have? Does the eMac serial number fall within the range covered by the eMac Repair Extension Program for Video and Power Issues?
How much free space is there on the hard drive?
Have you tried seeing if Repair Disk reports any problems, per the instructions in Using Disk Utility and fsck? -
Disabling Syncing in Itunes really messes up AppleTV - Need help
In an attempt to temporarily turn off syncing between my Apple TV and iTunes, I right clicked my Apple TV in my itunes and chose disable Syncing. BIG MISTAKE!
Not only did it remove all my content from my Apple TV, but it completely severed the link. I went back to my A-TV and attempted to connect to my iTunes again. It gave me the code to enter in, but in iTunes I could no longer see my Apple TV. Nothing appeared in the devices section & I had "Search for A-TVs" enabled.
I'm not sure what I did to finally get it back, but now it only syncs my personal content that I manually put in my iTunes Library. My apple TV will not select any content bought from the iTunes store. The error triangle next to my apple TV in iTunes indicates that my apple TV cannot connect to the itunes store to validate the content, even though I have properly configured my username and password in Apple TV.
Please help!Yes, using the menu item "Store -> Authorize Computer" did the trick.
The Actual steps first involved disconnecting from itunes first on my apple TV. Then "Store -> Authorize Computer ...", then reconnecting to iTunes on my apple TV, entering the new code in my iTunes, and voila!
Now I just have to wait for it to resync. -
Man do I need help. Please....I'm begging.
Ok, I've created a mess and I need help cleaning it up. In the process of trying to create, sync, and god know what else I've ended up with multiple copies multiple libraries located in various locations on my PCs external HD. The good news is that the library I want to keep is the one is iTunes is currently synced to. I was fairly certain what files I could remove and what not to but then I noticed something weird. When I open the advanced settings tap under preferences and look at the file path it was different that I thought it was. Instead this (what I normally see) "C:\Documents and Settings\elombardi\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music" I have this: "C:\Documents and Settings\elombardi\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\iTunes1\iTunes Music". When I open the files to look at it the file "iTunes1" is located in the "iTunes Music" folder along with all the folders with the different artists listed. When I open "iTunes1" it appears to have all the same files as the normal "iTunes" folder with one exception, all the folders appear to be empty. The thing I find so strange is that why does iTunes seem to be working fine if it is pointed at this empty file folder? When I say empty, I mean if I open the folder "iTunes Music" in the "iTunes1" folder it has nothing in it. I'm afraid to delete it and point it to another directory as I don't want to lose my files. The ironic part is that I created this mess trying to do something relatively simple, move my files onto a new drive. Now that I know how to do it I can't figure out what files I need to move.
Oh dear, a bit of a mess, you appear to haev created a new instance of itunes inside the music folder of your original iTunes folder.
Just to be clear about your current state:
The location of your iTunes Music folder as set in Preferences>advanced>general is:
My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\iTunes1\iTunes Music
Do you know the location of the library file you are currently using? It is likely to be in iTunes1 from your preference setting, but you can check by starting iTunes with the shift key held down and then choosing iTunes library.itl in either iTunes or iTunes1 to see which is right.
The location of your music files: If I understand you correctly, all the actual files are in My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music and the my Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\iTunes1\iTunes Music folder is empty.
I wouldn't add any music to your collection at the moment as it will only complicate things.
If you are happy that everything is working OK, the simplest way of dealing with this if you want to move immediately to an external drive is not to sort it out. Use the method in the following link to transfer your music to a new iTunes Music folder on the external drive. The current library file (itunes Library.itl) will remain where it is on the internal drive.

Normally I would suggest a different method but it would result in exactly the same scrambled set up on the external drive.
If you want to sort things out on your internal drive before the transfer, you need to confirm exactly how things are set up. -
Need help setting up 3 different iCloud accounts for my kids (so each has own iMessanger)using same Apple ID (mine) ....they don't have their own separate email addresses to work from...how do I do this?
Any devices connected to the same icloud account can sync all the data on that account. For this reason an icloud account is really for a single user.
On a mac, if each user has their own account, then the itunes for that mac account should be set up to connect to that user's icloud account (System preferences>icloud). -

Sound card is messed up needs help!
Okay, one day I was out of the house and my brother used my computer. I came back and my sound card is not working at all. He told me he was only playing Team Fortress 2 but I think he's lying. He did something that made the sound not work. When I restart my computer the sound does work for a while but then in 5 minutes or less it just suddenly makes a painful ticking noise and jsut sto

I try to go in open volume mixer or playback devices but they dont open or they just freeze and i have to use task manager to close the windows.
If I have my speakers turned off or my headphones unplugged the sound blaster is okay, it only freezes up when sound is played, and when frozen, it stays broken until i restart the computer. Sometimes when I restart it already doesnt work or when I try to shut the computer down it says the system cant shut down because it says its currently playing logoff sound so i have to end program to turn it off, and sometimes the computer doesnt shut down! It turns the moniter and mouse off, but the computer is still on and I have to hold the power button to turn it off. I reinstalled a fresh Windows Vista Ultimate hoping that would fix the problem but it still does the same, so its prabably not a software program, its the sound card or probably the moherboard. I have a HP computer with PCI-E Sound Blaster Xtreme Audio and have the latest drivers. Here are links to some threads on similar questions with some troubleshooting you can try. You may find more using the Forums search function. Checking that Windows Audio is started and set to Automatic is simple in XP, but Vista may differ. If you can run msconfig, disable everything on the Startup tab, and see if you get stable sound. If so, then enable items one at a time until the problem returns.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

My iPod's keyboard/screen is messed up. I need help!
Last month (Jan 4th 2013) I bought an iPod touch 5, it worked fine for the first week but then my keyboard/screen started acting weird. like I would tap on a letter but instead my keyboard taps enter or a number, or I would scroll down but instead my iPod opens an app, stuff like that. Its messed up. First I turned off my iPod (by holding down the sleep button..etc) but it didn't work, so I reset my iPod as a new device that way if it was something related to an app it would be deleted, this worked for 3-4 days but it went back after that. I don't know what's wrong with my iPod I really need help!
Try:

So I don't sync my iPad very often. My dad and I share a computer. And I decided to do it the other day. I am pretty sure I did it all correctly selecting music that I wanted not deleting playlists but it seems to be that they are gone. And music I didn't want has appeared. And now I don't have an option (with this new iOS 6.1.2) to make new playlists or edit music I don't want out.
I know I need help figuring those two things out 1 how to make a play list. There isn't a "add" button anymore in that screen I have a "you have no playlist"with a button underneath that says "go to iTunes Store" why I would need the store for that, I do not know.
Then in the songs, artists, albums sections where you used to be able to hit "edit" button to delete the music you have that you don't want. I don't seem to be able to do anything at all to get rid of the random music I have.
I need help. I know my iPad fairly well but I am not super savvy with it either.Is there a "New" button at the top right of the Playlists section of Music?
There is no Edit button to delete music, swipe sideways on the song to reveal the delete button. Tap and hold on the artwork in Artists and albums to reveal the (X) button to delete. Or connect the iPad back up to iTunes on the computer and check your sync settings for music to ensure you are syncing the right content. -

Need help fast!- I suspect that he went to Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings. For 1G or 2G iPod that can take hours and it will likely stall out if not connected to a charging source.
Try the following:
- A reset.
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

- The connect to computer and try to restore via iTunes.
- Id something is still showing onthe screen, disconnect from computer/charging source and let the battery fully drain. After charging for an hour, Try the reset and restore.

I need help installing my adobe premiere element 13. the soft ware is 3.5 GB and I have a 654.4GB space is this enought space to dowload the software. It appears the software is downloading , but when it gets to the end it gives me the error summary message. I have been on the phone for hours being transfered from from person to the next with no results.

What is your computer operating system?
From where are you downloading Premiere Elements 13....direct from Adobe as the tryout or the purchased product? If the purchased product, do you now have a purchased serial number to go with the installation files?
Where are you stopped in the installation....at the Sign In or before? Is the faulting module cited in any messages? What are the error messages?
The usual questions:
1. Are you working with the antivirus and firewall(s) disabled?
2. Are you running the computer programs as administrator?
3. Are you working with a pen and tablet device instead of mouse?
4. Is your video card/graphics card up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the card?
5. Are you installing the program to the default location on the Local Disc C (if Windows).
Let us start here and then decide what next based on the details that you post. Subsequent troubleshooting may include:
deletion of the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and/or uninstall, free ccleaner run through, reinstall with antivirus and firewall(s) disabled.
