Killing Flash ads in Safari 4?

Is there anyway to kill Flash ads in Safari 4 on pages such as Youtube? Because every day when I browse onto Youtube there is an ad that hangs the entire browser. Not just Safari 4 but every browser! It's incredibly annoying! HELP!

Greetings,
Try click2flash to block all Flash content unless you click on it to load it.

  • I am receiving error code of "Error: oElement is null" which is preventing some flash ads from loading on my site. Any solutions?

Over the past few weeks, I have had some problems with some flash ads not showing up. I did a check in the error console and saw the following:
    Error: oElement is null
    Source File: http://ad-cdn.technoratimedia.com/00/49/82/uat_8249.js?ad_size=728x90
    Line: 1
The same ad shows up fine in Safari which leads me to believe this might be due to Firefox. Anyone else see anything similar?

Can you post a link to that site then we can take a look?
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
    See:
    * [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]]

  • How to watch flash based videos without adobe flash installed using Safari

How do I watch flash based videos without adobe flash installed using Safari?

Once you have Chrome installed, activate the Develop menu in Safari (go to Safari Preferences > Advanced > Show Develop Menu). You then will see under the Develop menu the Open Page With option and Chrome will be listed there.
So each time you open a page with Safari requiring Flash, you use that menu option to open the same page in Chrome.

  • Can't I stop the HOG Flash from Firefox? I use FlashBlock but a constant fight. Often both cores maxed at 100%,laptop very slow until I kill Flash in Tsk Mangr

Flash is the problem. It often maxes both cores of my dual core processor and brings processing virtually to a halt.
Originally, I killed flash in Task Manager whenever i heard my fan come on and also noticed slow system response. This was very distracting and took a lot of time.
Then I installed FlashBlock, but it doesn't stop Flash unless you tell it for each and every website.
When reading news, and opening a link, I will hear the fan start, so i click the block button/icon in Firefox to block the site from using flash. Some sites don't launch with the FlashBlock icon. I have to use the manual kill option for them. This extremely frustrating. I understand why Steve Jobs hated Flash.
I don't like Apple's money-sucking wallet-leach behavior, so I use WinTel and live with the frustrations of which this is the biggest. HTML5 supposedly is the solution, but site builders use flash.
FireFox needs a flash control switch built in the browser to give control of Flash - block/ask, etc. functionality.

By the way, Firefox does have a Click-to-Play feature you can use for Flash. That will delay Flash from starting on a page until you approve it. However, the approval is per site, I believe, so you may need an add-on to control it per page.
To set "Ask to Activate", open the Add-ons page using either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Look for "Shockwave Flash" and change "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".
When you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.
Not a solution, but hopefully will help a bit.

  • Embedding expanding flash ads in existing web page.. help!

    Hi guys!
I am having a problem and can't find a site anywhere that
helps. My company have just started selling expanding flash ad
spaces but I have no idea how to make these work on a current and
very clunky site. The space on the page I have for skyscraper ads
is 120px wide but obviously, flash ads that expand are much wider
((my current one is 240px wide) and need to expand over the rest of
the content. Does anyone know of a site or can tell me what I have
to do in my HTML and CSS to make these work?
    Thanks,
    Amy

Flash by default goes to the top layer when you put it in a
web page (an annoyance sometimes, but very convenient for this sort
of thing). Just size your ad for the non-expanded skyscraper, and
    it should work.
This may not be the package you are using, but if you go to
dartmotif.com (a DoubleClick/Google site) and download their ad kit
and some ads, you'll find some documentation that may answer other
    questions.

  • Adobe Flash Player for Safari

I can't get Adobe Flash player to install in Safari 5.0.3. Please advise...

Adobe Flash is pretty much a 32-bit application. You may be able to fix the problem by going into your Applications folder, and right-clicking on Safari. There is a check box that will allow you to run Safari in 32-bit mode. Try that and see if Flash works in Safari.
I have retired my iMac, and have an HP now, but a friend helped me with the same problem when I upgraded to Snow Leopard. My PC seems to have just one 64-bit browser, that being Internet Explorer. I am using IE9 Beta in 64-bit, and the Beta for Flash "Square" in 64-bit seems to work fine. See link below:

  • How to disable a flash trace in safar & opera browsers.

    hi
I have installed flash player (16) debugger version for Mozilla, Now I am getting flash trace in mozilla, safari & opera. I want to disable the flash trace in safari & opera.
Please tell me how to do this.
    thanks in advance

Yeah, the debugger is for developers that need to write and debug Flash content.  You don't want to use it for general browsing.  It's much slower than the release player because of all the tracing, and it shows you everyone else's coding mistakes that didn't get fixed before they shipped (and there are a lot).
So, you'll need to uninstall and move back to a release player.  What most of us do is keep the debugger in one browser (like NPAPI Flash Player for Safari/Firefox) for doing web development, and then use another browser with the release player for actually browsing the web (like Chrome).  Since we're using two browsers with different plug-in architectures, we can keep them installed in parallel instead of switching back and forth.
    Anyway, here's the uninstaller:
    Uninstall Flash Player | Windows
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-mac-os.html
Then just download the regular installer at:
    http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

  • Animations in Flash ads blocking text input into rich-text editor (IE)

We've been able to reproduce that Flash ads, that are currently animating, block text input into rich-text areas.  Has anyone heard of this?

I should add, they do not block all text input, just every 10th (or so) character.

  • HT5271 How can I use flash 10x in Safari 5.1.8?

Hi I need to use the older Flash plug-in (Flash 10x) in Safari 5.1.8.  Is there a way I can "force" Safari to use it?
    Thanx

Two bugs, one affecting Apple's Mac platform and another attacking Microsoft's Windows, exploit certain Flash player vulnerabilities to install malware onto users' systems, reports ArsTechnica. While users of other operating systems like Linux have yet to report attacks, Adobe's advisory notes the exploit affects all platforms.
Designated as CVE-2013-0634, the first vulnerability targets the Safari and Firefox Web browsers running on OS X, and is also being used as a trojan to deploy Microsoft Word documents containing malware. For Mac users, the flaw affects Adobe Flash Player version 11.5.502.146 or earlier.
On March 1 Apple again blocked Flash Player for Lion and Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5660
The Adobe Flash patch can be found on Adobe’s website, and users can visit this page to check if their software is the most curent version.
You should uninstall any previous version first, and repair permissions after installing the new version.
If you still get a ‘plug-ins blocked’ message:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5271
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.  The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 or later is for Snow Leopard onwards.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

  • Flash Nightmares on Safari. . .Help!

This all started rather simple. . . I visit a site of a client of mine that has a flash video that was not working on my Safari but did work on Firefox. I also had a SIMBL error come up every time I opened Safari which started I'm guessing either when I upgraded to Safari 3 or when I installed Adobe CS3 Web Design. I figured it was all related.
So it was suggested I try to reinstall the latest Flash Player. I got the "Access Denied Error. . . You do not have enough access privileges for this installation". Went to Adobe. It said to uninstall Flash, Repair disk permissions, restart and install Flash Player. I did all that and again I got the same Access Denied Error. But now when I go to any site that has Flash, I get "Safari cannot find the internet plug in - "The page “BlahBlah” has content of MIME type “application/x-shockwave-flash”, but you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type."
I am now Flashless both on Safari and Firefox which is not good because I design flash into web sites and can't test them.
I don't have time for this mess! Monday is the first day of my Nightmare week. That would make this a nightmare in a nightmare. . . HELP!!!

While Starman does his midnight surfing (he probably calls it sleep), allow me to drop in with my 2 cents' worth!
Despite the fact that you seemingly don't actually have Flash installed, as evidenced by those two files not being found (and they should be in the Internet Plugins Folder on your main hard drive, not in the one in your home account), try this:
Adobe FlashPlayer should first be uninstalled using the appropriate uninstaller available here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=2 and then the latest version obtained from here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash and installed.
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
After installation you should repair permissions and restart.

  • Problem updating Adobe Flash Player with Safari

    Hello!
I'm trying to update Adobe Flash Player using Safari on a Macbook Pro with OS X 10.10.1 but every time I download the update the file looks like this:
and when I try to start the installation this window appears:
I tried several different download links but non of them worked. I also uninstalled the Adobe Flash Player and tried to reinstall it but then I have the same problem. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong? Thank you!

For some reason that I have yet to determine, people with Matlab installed start getting .mdlp extensions appended to their downloaded files.  That's what happened here.  Rename the file to remove .mdlp (so that it ends in .dmg), then double-click the file and it should work.
