Kin connecting to computer problem

Alright so I recently got my kin twom. I loved the phone at first but then when I tried to connect it to my computer zune didn't see it and when my comp tried installing it, it said can't install the data is invalid. However when I plug it into my moms computer it works just fine. The only difference is that her comp is windows 7 and mine is XP. how can i get it to connect to my comp with windows xp

I didn't understand the answer to one thread for someone else about loading the clips - I didn't realize that person meant to take one clip and load it into iMovie, then another clip and load it, and so on. When I took my video camera to the Mac Outpost store, it loaded without any problems, all at once. My computer is considered 8th generation (?) (4 or 5 years old and doesn't have PC based intel, or whatever the new system is called) ... I'm just so grrrrrrr annoyed something so basic is soooo complicated. Thanks to everyone who read this. And I hope all those who are still having their own problems find an answer.

  • JVC Everio HD connecting to computer problem

I found one answer, which didn't work for me. Sorry, I forgot the person's name - there was a list in point form. It was to plug in camera, then turn on both computer and camera, then select playback on camera, then select PC Data Backup (which I couldn't do on camera, or is this on computer? I looked for it but couldn't find it on computer), then open iMovie. Well, iMovie still tells me there is no camera connected. And I have 06 and 08 iMovie versions and neither one recognized the camera was connected. I checked the cable and to be sure it was securely plugged in. And I no longer remember WHERE I saw that it's supposed to be a 6 pin firewire and not the USB cable. I took the camera to the Mac Outpost and the guy there said they don't have that cable. Does such a cable exist? So now I don't know what to do. Any suggestions.

  • Connecting second computer - problem

I have been trying to connect a second computer to an existing Airport Express network - and have failed miserably so far. I have the sneaking suspicion that I'm missing something obvious here - so any pointers will be greatly appreciated!
I have an Airport Express and a 1-year old Powerbook G4. The Airport is connected to a cable modem. Everything works fine.
The second computer is a 17-inch iMac G5. I bought an Airport card and installed it following the instructions. I've done this kind of stuff before so I'm pretty sure it's not an installation problem.
But my iMac won't detect the Airport station.... I've read the manual, tried to follow instructions, fiddled with the settings, moved the computer closer to the airport station, etc. etc. Nothing improved the situation.
I have also tried setting up a computer-to-computer network. The Powerbook then recognises the iMac and I can enter a password. So I presume the Airport card is working... But afterwards, I don't see any new volume under "Network" - which is where I would expect to find the iMac now. Mhm.
I apologize if this is all a bit unspecific - but I'm happy to provide further clues if pointed in the right direction.
Many thanks in advance for your help!
    Sebastian

    I have a similar problem
and i am not too compter literate
I have a dual g5 hooked to an extreme DI-624 wireless router with tiger.
    it works perfectly wireless.
I have my secondary computer, an old emac with an old airport card (slow b version) on panther.
I just installed the airport card (b) but it does not see my network on the dual g5. it sees other networks around the area.
how do i get it to see the g5 network???

    Hello,
It isn't the fw in Network you want o use or look at, that's for something completely different.
My first suspect is the Power Adapter on the LaCie has gone.
At the Apple Icon at top left>About this Mac, then click on More Info, then click on Hardware>Firewire, what is listed there?
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

You don't in the condition it's in. You will either have to get the phone replaced by Apple or pay a 3rd party to repair it.
there seriously should be more than two ways to solve this other wise apple is useless and we will never buy another apple product.
    Seriously? It's physically broken!

  • Kin ONEm--email syncing problem

I have a Kin ONEm, and I use email and the Web browser over a WiFi connection. A week or two ago, I started having trouble with the "Email" app (which I have synced to my yahoo email account). When I select "Email", my inbox starts to come up, but then it inexplicably takes me back to the main screen without showing me my inbox.
I have tried to see if I could fix this by deleting this email account from my email settings (with the intention of adding it back in and seeing if it would work then), but it just tells me it is "Deleting & signing out..." but it never finishes doing that.
For now I have been able to get around this problem by checking email through the browser, but I was hoping to eventually get the email issue fixed.
I read a post from someone else who was having this trouble and "fixed" it by going to a Verizon store and having the person reset their phone. I don't want to do that and lose all my contacts and other settings, so if there is a better fix, please let me know.

Oh my goodness...Christina, I'm happy you're trying to help out, but please don't assume that things that would work on most other VZW phones will work on the KIN.  Unless I'm mistaken, two of the three suggestions you gave will not work.
    1) When I connect my KIN to my computer (Widows Vista), the only thing that will recognize it is the Zune software.  It does not show up as a normal USB drive that you can simply copy files to/from.   Now Zune will certainly allow Erink to transfer his photos, videos, and music.  However, I don't know of a way to use it to transfer contacts, which is what he said he was most interested in.
If you know of a driver that will let us use the KIN as a simple attached drive, please let us know.  On the other hand, I do recall in some previous topics here that some Verizon stores have the ability to backup and restore contacts on the KIN.  But you have to go into the store to do that -- and find store personnel that know about it.
    2) Your suggestion to forward text messages to an e-mail address would be fine -- if the KIN had the ability to forward texts.  It does not.  The only way to do that is to take a screen shot of each "conversation", then you could transfer the resulting jpg images to your computer using Zune.  You'd wind up with a bunch of jpg images which you might be able to read, but you couldn't really restore them as text messages.
Once again, we appreciate that VZW reps try to help out here -- but please be more careful to ensure that your advice is valid for the device in question.
If I'm wrong about any of the above, you have my apologies.
    Thanks.

  • Connecting a Computer to an HDTV

    Hey everyone,
One of the most frequently asked home theater questions we see here on the forums is “How do I connect my computer to my HDTV?”  Well, depending upon the model(s) you own you may have a number of options.
For starters, the most common option to connect a computer to an HDTV is to use a VGA cable.  Often referred to as RGB, D-sub 15 or even generic “PC” inputs on many TVs, these connections are present on a healthy majority of desktop and laptop computers.  Some laptops will even feature miniature versions of these ports that can be easily converted to a full-size VGA connection through the use of a special adapter.
The second option, connecting the two using component cables, is primarily used by consumers that own an older HDTV.  Most often found in the home theater section of a store, these cables are not only relatively inexpensive, but can also generally be identified by their red, blue, and green color coding as explained by Rodney-GSHQ in this other thread.  There is, however, one slight problem: most video cards do not feature component outputs.
The next available option is to use a Digital Video Interface (DVI) cable.  These connections are quite common on newer desktop computers, and are often considered to be the digital successor to VGA.  That’s right – everything up to this point has been analog only.
Last, but not least, you may have the option of connecting your computer to your HDTV using an HDMI cable.  HDMI outputs are typically only found on newer (and higher-end) computers, but are considered by many to be capable of providing the highest-quality digital signals available.
Regardless of which method you choose, remember that you will need a separate cable to run audio from your computer to your TV!  Additionally, it’s strongly recommended that you double-check your TV and computer’s owner’s manuals for step-by-step instructions as there are a number of precautions that you should take before attempting to connect the two.
Still not sure how to proceed?  Give us a call at 1-800-GEEK-SQUAD (1-800-433-5778) and we’d be glad to help you out!

I know for a FACT that HDMI and DVI are intercompatible. I was talking about the sets themselves. NOT the specs. Many HDTVs have EDID tables that are not compliant with PC signal specs or in some cases, they give off EDID information that isn't understood by various electronic devices that rely on such information. This is a well-known fact and has been a particular problem with older sets. Yes, you can tweak the signal from your PC using PowerStrip, the Nvidia/ATI driver hacks, or whatever applies to your particular setup, but those don't always work. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't work until it works out of the box and there are only a few sets that will work with PC signals over anything other than VGA by design. I know this from my own testing done at Best Buy on nearly two dozen of the 1080P LCDs with my own HDMI/VGA equipped notebooks using the latest (non-Beta) drivers from Nvidia, ATI/AMD, and Intel. I tested both HDMI and VGA from the notebooks for nearly three hours. VGA was the clear winner for out of the box connectivity on most of the sets and HDMI lost big time because the signal was either not displayed at all or displayed improperly with no clear way to resolve the issue. The Sony Bravia LCDs were the only ones that passed both the HDMI and VGA connectivity tests that I did. You simply got lucky with the two LCDs you have used because they were likely intended for multi-media use. The Westinghouse certainly was at any rate since they have always catered to that market.

  • Cannot get Win8 Pro computer run the Connect a Computer to the Server Wizard (computerconnector) of Essentials 2012

I've spent 1/2 the day trying to troubleshoot this problem and finally give up.
My client has a Windows Server 2012 Essentials server (with all updates installed - no errors in error logs nor SFC /SCANNOW).  Purchased a new Windows 8 Pro computer, which we installed all the updates from Windows Updates and are now trying to join
the domain using the "Microsoft way" (i.e.:  http://[servername]/connect).
The site comes up and it prompts us to download the software and run... so far so good, but when we get to the screen where it asks, "Type your new network user name and password" - the next screen after that we get the error, "Cannot connect
    this computer to the network...".
I've been looking at cases all day long through Microsoft and Google - all pointing to problems with the SSL on the server - that's not the problem here (as other workstations have, in the past, successfully connected and we verified today that the local
server certificate is what is the default, as it should be).
I've tried just about everything I can think of and cannot get this silly wizard to work (why Microsoft, WHY!??!?!).  Yet, I can join this domain just fine doing it through normal means.  I've even tried joining the domain this way, and tried installing
the software afterwards (as the Essentials Console won't reflect the new workstation, thus it won't add it to group policies etc... though yes, I could manually do that and have - but we'd still like to get it to show up in the console).  I even
tried the trick noted in a KB talking about running the connect software without joining the domain (registry key that gets added) - that didn't work either.
I'm out of ideas - and at this point had to get the client online and working today - so we joined it manually, configured it and left it.  But I would like to get this fixed the "proper" way.  Help?
I do have the clientdeploy.log file - which only points out an internal error, but I'm unsure how to enable the improved logging it suggests (I'll gladly post the logs if someone tells me how - I'll skip posting the log file here for now):
    [1544] 140204.203620.0794: ClientSetup: MachineIdentityManager.GetMachineStatus had errors: ErrorCatalog:NetworkError ErrorCode:-1
BaseException: Microsoft.WindowsServerSolutions.Devices.Identity.MachineIdentityException: MachineIdentityManager.GetMachineStatus ---> System.ServiceModel.FaultException: The server was unable to process the request due to an internal error.  For more
information about the error, either turn on IncludeExceptionDetailInFaults (either from ServiceBehaviorAttribute or from the <serviceDebug> configuration behavior) on the server in order to send the exception information back to the client, or turn on
tracing as per the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK documentation and inspect the server trace logs.
Suggestions?  Thoughts?  I hope Essentials 2012 R2 improves this - as I've had this error for other various reasons with other clients (and spent 1/2 days troubleshooting to clear those up).  Essentials Connect, IMHO, needs a re-write - as
it's been nothing but a hassle... miss the SBS connect.

    Hi slemay,
Before going further, please uninstall the Connector software from Control panel. Then connect again, will
the same issue persists? Would you please use another client to connect with the Server 2012 Essentials by using this way? Then monitor the result. Please make sure the computer has a physical connection to the local network.
Please refer to the TechNet article (Here)
and troubleshoot, then check if can help you to solve it.
In addition, please refer to the following articles and enable
WCF tracing to go further. Please check if you can find some clues.
    How to enable WCF tracing

  • Iphone 4s wont connect to computer

This actually has gone on for a while now but now its almost a necessity because it seems to be the only way ...
my iPhone 4s will not connect to my computer since the 7.1.1 update, and to date at 8.0.?!?!?!?
i updated to 8.0 first day,
    i missed 8.0.1
i downloaded 8.0.2 and attempted to install
the first time i got stuck because i didn't have enough space. i hard reset and deleted a few apps.
i installed 8.0.2 to find my self with a recovery mode bricked iPhone 4s
i get an iTunes logo and a cord.
in my mind i thought " okay i just need to fix what ever is keeping it from connect to computer"
but i noticed the iTunes logo was Red and i freaked out.
if all is well then the red logo would mean i need to reset my phone, connect to iTunes etc. etc.
i'm fine with wiping my phone, but i cannot connect to my computer, or iTunes.
    BASICS
this problem runs with multiple cables
this problem runs on my computer ( i have not thoroughly tested such act on other computers, but I will tomorrow no doubt)
this problem cannot be fixed by changing my cable ( as the cable works with many other phones )
this problem is not affected by my operating system ( although i have not tested on a mac yet )
upon connecting to my laptop my phone will charge, windows will not detect my device as result calling upon error code 10 or 43
windows will not see my iPhone in device manager unless its called "unknown device"
when i plug my phone into the computer i do not get any sign of installing or searching for drivers
i get error code 10 when i attempt to manually install apple drivers
i have reinstalled iTunes 32 times without any problems
i have uninstalled all parts of iTunes and reinstalled from scratch 23 times
i know this problem revolves around the computer itself or the phone itself
i have not tested other apple products on the computer, but USB drives work flawlessly ( but take time to begin searching/installing drivers leading me to believe the problem revolves on the phones hardware )
this problem is not effected by iTunes version as i have tested the 3 latest versions
my warranty is void for being old lol
and i really think that your great mind(s) can help me resolve this problem
    THANKS IN ADVANCED

Well, it appears that you have the latest version of iTunes, as you report removing and reinstalling. Just make sure you are using the latest one.
The error codes you are reporting are Windows errors, not iPhone or iTunes errors, which makes me what to believe that you are having a computer issue. You can take a look at this support document for a little help with the iPhone driver, see step 5. http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html
You again report an error when trying to manually install a driver, again this is a Windows error. You would need to search Microsoft for help with those.

  • IPod will connect to computer but not to iTunes (I followed the apple website guide already)

My iPod touch 4th gen WILL connect to my computer but not iTunes. I ran the diagnostics in iTunes and Apple mobile service is running, iTunes is updated and iTunes says everything is ok EXCEPT it says there is no iPod connected, but my computer says it is.
The apple diagnostic is located under the "Help" tab in the "Run Diagnostics" button.
Everything is a green light and is ready to go, except the last diagnostic which says that I do not have an iPod connected. The problem here is that I do, It is also a new iPod and when I plug it in I hear the computer beep that signifies that an external device has been connected.
My sister also has this problem connecting to the same computer (the only computer with this problem).

    Have you tried everything here:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
    including:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    or
Removing and Reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP

Either it won't display on the projector at all. Once it displayed but the presentation mode was on the big screen and the presentation I wanted to show was on my MBP screen. I have the adapter( white ones) to attached to the projector cables.  I am so frsutrated...it looks so silly not to have a computer work during a presentation..
Another problem one the rare occasion that it shows on the screen is that the presentation does show just my desk top.  Any ideas?
    Thanks !

You often have to turn off Mirroring to be able to set the second "screen"s resolution to something reasonable. When you do, the two screens become an "Exceeded Desktop" joined along one edge, and the Arrange pane in displays prefs can allow you to specify what edge. Initially, it will show a vacant extension of the built-in screen's desktop.
The mouse moves freely across that shared edge, and can allow you to drag the presentation window across to the the projector screen and re-size it to fit.

  • Connecting to Router problem

    Hi
My MBP 10.6.7 connects to my Netgear router no problem. The TCP/IP settings are
    Config IPv4 - Using DHCP
    Config IPv6 - Automatically
The exact settings on an iMac 10.6.6 in the same house won't connect to the router. So I tried to setup the TCP/IP settings manually so that they mirrored the settings of the MBP and still no joy. I seem to be getting a timeout error when trying to connect.
I had a previous problem a few weeks ago connecting to the router via my MBP but that was sorted out by changing settings in the router via Netgear tech support but everything is fine now.
As I type this and after restarting the iMac the Airport card is recognising the router and saying it is connecting via an IP address but nothing is happening in Safari.

Please note that there isn't a problem with the my Internet connection because when I plug an Ethernet cable straight into the router the is a connection no problem.
OK, then if you connect the computer via Ethernet there is a solid connection? It's only wireless, then, that isn't connecting? Am I understanding this correctly?
The IP address doesn't start with 169.
Is there an IP address or is it blank? If there is an IP address what is it? What is the router IP and the network mask? And, I assume you have the wireless configured to use DHCP? You might try turning off the IPv6 configuration.
Yes, I suppose there could be a problem with the router. Some non-Apple routers just don't quite work right with Macs for some reason. I would also check the NetGear support site for possible firmware updates for the router. Sometimes a firmware update brings older routers up to snuff or fix problems when using them with Macs. I've had a mixed bag of success with non-Apple routers over the years, so now I stick with Apple routers.
Another thing you might try is to reset the router. Usually the will be a small button on the rear of the router marked Reset. You may have to use a toothpick to depress it. Are you able to configure the router using your browser?

  • Wireless connection 'local' only - problem solved

I had problems making a wireless connection to my new BT Homehub3. Ethernet connection fine. Wireless stopped at 'local' connection and no internet access. I read many forums, spent over an hour with BT's helpline in India (extremely competent) but to no avail. The BT guy took over my laptop and tried everything imaginable but no success. The consensus on the forums was that there appears to be a compatability issue between Windows Vista and some hubs (not specifically BT).
I found the solution in an obscure Windows Update - an optional one from 2010 that I hadn't noticed. This had the name of my wireless card (Atheros) in the title which I wouldn't have recognised until this BT Hub problem arose. Downloaded the specific wireless card update and I'm now using the wireless connection to send this post.
Might be worth checking for your own wireless cards just in case. Hopefully BT engineers might find this info useful.

The original poster has not returned to the forum since December, however if you connect your computer using an Ethernet cable, then go to the Windows update page and ask it to look for updates, there should be an "optional updates" section, remember to download all the critical ones first.
Look at "hardware updates" and see if it shows the update for your wireless card.
