  • Has anyone else bought the Kin TwoM and found it the worst thing ever??

I got the Kin TwoM and found it the worst cell phone I have had EVER.It never keeps its battery life but for a day and the screen is way too touchy and I can not send people photos or post them online I have yet to get the wi fi to work anymore it just stopped.I hate this cell and if I had the money I would buy different one right now but instead I am stuck with it.

Maybe I should clearify this a bit the issue wasn't the device but more along the devices popularity with the customers, this information is basically posted on a number of forums but I dont see Verizon addressing this as a issue because the device works well for some but it simply wasn't for everyone..  If you search the forum you could find a number of reported reviews...
    Check this one... https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/355420/page/5

  • Have a kin twom and found out that although only about a year old, Verizon no longer supports.

Is this true?  Can I get a replacement?  Why wasn't I notified about the support being pulled for a phone that is fairly new???????  Would take any other phone actually as long as I don't need a data plan.  Don't care about op sys, etc...  Just need to replace a broken phone and wanted to use this one, but now that its not supported, I can't for example transfer contacts (I have HUNDREDS!) or download any apps...  What is Verizon doing about this for Kin users???
<Moved from Windows Phone to KIN for more exposure.>

If it comes down to needing a replacement, a customer service rep can tell you at that time if it's available. Though the Kin devices are no longer sold online, Verizon may still have stock set aside for replacements.
As you probably know, this was the only feature phone with Wi-Fi sold by Verizon. When the Kin devices didn't sell well as smartphones, they were rereleased with modified software to get rid of overstock. If having no data plan plus Wi-Fi is important to you and you can't get a Kin through Verizon, you may want to look on eBay or other sites too for replacement KinM devices.
As far as being supported, the KinM devices never worked with Backup Assistant, but a rep can transfer your contacts in a corporate Verizon store. And when the KinM was rereleased as a feature phone, the Kin Studio, syncing services and other apps were never available on the M models.
So, to answer your last question, what is Verizon doing for Kin users ... it's the same as any other phone in the fast-paced world of technology ... Verizon will replace it as long as there's stock left on the shelves. Good luck.

  • Kin TwoM- why are long messages split up?

I just got the Kin TwoM, and I noticed that my longer texts are being sent as many separate texts...much like it used to be when an AT&T user would text you a long message. Is there some sort of setting or way around this? Last thing I need is irritating people by being THAT GUY who sends messages like that.

My phone is only a couple of days old so I've been reading the manual and it states:
Type message to open the text box and type your message. You can type up to 800 characters.
My messages are also being split up when I know I am not doing a hard return and have nowhere near 800 characters.  I'm not sure what's going on here but I'd also like an answer.  I just checked the manual and it clearly states an 800 character allowance.  I wonder if it has something to do with the limitations of the receivers device?  Too bad I can't forward one of "those" broken messages to myself to see.  There is also no copy paste option that I can find so I can paste one in a new message to myself.  Any clues?
I know I've sent messages to a Droid 2 with a 160 character limit so maybe it's not our device at all it just fragments it into the correct character limit for the receiver?

  • KIN TWOm

I just got a KIN TWOm and my computer is not recognizing it, nor does it sync up with my computer? Anyone have any suggestions.  It just says that HI Speed device is hooked up to non HI Speed Hub? I guess my computer is too old?

The Kin's will only be recognized using the Zune software available for free from the Zune website. (it is very much akin to iTunes and the iPhone's relationship) If you ARE using Zune..it is possible your computer does not meet minimum specs, although they are pretty light on the requirements.

  • Contacts saved on the KIN TWOm

I just spent a few hours keying in all my contacts from my old phone.
Now I'd like to know if there's a way to save or export them to my computer.  If this phone needs to be replaced under warranty and I get another KIN TWOm I sure don't want to have to repeat this tedious process again.
Is there a way to export my contacts that are on my KIN TWOm and import them if needed?
    Thanks

I am not sure if it would be possible. You probably already know, that backup assist syncs the backup to an online database, that you can access through My Verizon. I am not sure if there is a 'sync with computer' option from the website, if it could grab your outlook, gmail contacts, etc. Assuming it could: then it would be similar to treat the backup assist and your computer as the same source. Now, from there, like stated, you can get contacts from backup assist to the phone (it requires a trip to the store): i'm not sure if they have to physically hook up a separate phone, to the kin phone, to do so. But if they do, then it would be about as simple as loading the backup assist contacts to a separate phone, and then hooking up that separate phone to the Kin. I don't know if you own the phone, or if you are currently shopping, but the phone does have a hidden programming menu (accessed by dialing ##77647266488, access code is 000000; note that you have to dial this from the 'phone app', you can't call it from a saved contact, etc because it isn't actually dialing a number, it is just running a process that goes to the programming menu). In that menu, there is a contacts menu, and in there, an import contacts, and export contacts.
    screenshots of the programming menu:
The problem: no one knows where the phone imports from, or where the phone exports from. When you press export, it will say 'contacts successfully exported!'. My guess is, it creates some 'standard' file type containing your contacts, and when you go in-stores, the machine that they use accesses the actual memory of the phone, and in whatever folder it stores it in, they can just pull it from there, or import a file into the phone in the same manner. I do know, that a while back, i was playing around in this menu and accidentally pushed 'import contacts', and then i had duplicates of every contact, which was a pain to go through and delete. So it seems likely that they have that file type i mentioned ont he phone, and depending if you push import or export, it'll either create the file, or import that file type into the phone contacts list (maybe..could it be as simple as connecting the phone to the computer via usb while pushing this button..?? but i doubt it, its never that easy with microsoft; maybe you or someone else can try it though, just in case ).
I don't know how much computer knowledge you have, but I read another thread saying they were trying to use a workaround, with a program called 'Python' (also another method in-progress called 'bitpim') to access and edit the phone, both its code, and just as a file on the computer (think, mass storage device-type access). I also read somewhere that someone was able to open the phone's contents ont he computer, but the problem was he couldn't open individual files like they were locked, or read-only. But I bet, if you can open it up on a computer, then you can pull the file out, or copy one in, and then it would make transferring contacts possible at home on any PC. But, if you're like me and either/both don't have the knowledge or the time to figure this out, then you have to live with no exporting contacts. If you do have this computer knowledge though, go ahead and try it out.
With one exception, i bet in-stores, they are able to access the phone's files and pull out that export file, so maybe they would be able to transfer that to My Verizon, or another phone/database to back-up. Just to warn you though, Verizon reps are not computer science majors, so they likely wouldn't be able to figure this out (if they haven't already, that is), and from my experience, most reps don't even know that this phone was re-launched.
I'll just ask though, if you do figure this out, please share Many, many of us would like to know.
Edit: Here is a link to the microsoft forums that has an extensive, technical discussion about reading the phone as a usb device, editing the phones and trying to get contact importing/exporting to work, etc. Within this thread, 3 other threads working ont he same thing are also linked.

  • Kin twom Wi-fi not working... really frustrated

I have a WPA 2 network however, when I try to connect to my wifi it says " can't connect to the NetPro network right now. try again later" I have not had the oppurtunity to try this for any other networks. However, I did try a random password for my neighbors, and instead of a message coming up as password invalid or something like that I got the same message. How do I connect to my wi-fi?

    Just a thought:
I am a new KIN TWOm owner (not an expert) so I frequent this site to learn about my new phone:
I have an Airport Extreme 802.11g.  I am currently using a WPA2 locked network.  I had no problem signing in with the the KIN TWOm.  My router is pretty old.  I do not have the newer 802.11n one.
I just looked in the manual under wifi and it does not specify compatible routers but I do recall reading that the newer 802.11n is not supported.  This was on a forum and not in the manual.  (Oops!  It is in this thread!)
I'm glad I have not upgraded my router in years because mine seems to be working with my KIN TWOm.
So, is it the phone or the router?  I don't know?
I will say that I have to remember to turn wifi off of a device (KIN TWOm, iPod Touch, MacBook etc ...) I am taking with me before I leave the house because while I'm gone the entire network shuts down.  If I turn wifi off in the device I am carrying out of range then the home network keeps working.  If I forget to turn it off of the device I am traveling with, I have to restart the network by physically unplugging it, count to 10 slowly, plug it back in, then everything just starts working again without having to retype the password.  It doesn't work if I just reset it from the ethernet device.  Leaving the house with a device that has wifi on connected to the home network knocks out everything connected to the network, iPod Touch, computers, etc ...  Once I unplug & replug the network in, everything just works again within about a minute or so.
I figured that out the hard way with my iPod Touch.  My family kept complaining that the network was down and I noticed the pattern of whenever I leave the house with my iPod on wifi the network goes down.  It's the same with my KIN TWOm and my MacBook.  I don't know if it has to do with firewall settings or network settings or what?  I just make it a habit to turn off wifi on the device I am carrying with me before leaving the house.  I can still turn it back on once I am out to access public wifi.  Then it still works for the rest of the family while I'm gone.  When I return home I have no problem reconnecting to my home network.
I hope this is clear enough.  It's hard to explain in writing.

  • KIN TwoM  PIN problem......

so after i found out people had been snooping in my phone, i set a pin. five minutes later i fogot it (i do remember the numbers are 8 6 4 2 but i dont know what order) i hear this can be fixed? and after trying 9 different pins, my phone showed the message about data being erased with one more wrong try.........help? sorry, i feel very stupid

    Hello,
I wanted to ask if you were able to get your phone unlocked without erasing the data? I am hoping that you were able to keep all of your information in the device.
I researched the KIN TwoM and I see that after 10 incorrect attempts to enter the PIN, the data is erased and is not retrievable. I found the below in the manual for the device.
"After eight incorrect attempts at typing your PIN, you’ll be prompted to type a specific number to continue trying. If you type an incorrect PIN a total of ten times, the data on your phone will be erased (but you will be warned after the ninth attempt)."
Please post back and let us know what happened.
    Thank you!

  • Is Microsoft going to offer a Software update with added functionality for Kin Twom?

Considering how blatant the omissions of a way to back up contacts, sync a calendar, or write/store notes are on the Kin Twom, does anyone know if Microsoft plans to update the software on the phone?

I doubt it. This is a WYSIWYG phone. I really like the phone, the DATA package was not for me. I had the Kin Onem and alas I dropped it and cracked the screen (only 2 wks old) I now have the Kin Twom and plan on taking better care of it.
Still wish Bluetooth was more functional.

  • Kin two overlay software to convert to a kin twom

I just got a Kin Twoand would like to convert it to a Kin Twom.  It is my understanding that the only difference between the two Kin Two phones is the software.  My guess is that Verizon converted all of the Kin Two stock to Kin Twom and I would like to do the same.  Anyone know how I can get this done?  Thanks for your help.

It sounds like Zune cannot find something on your system it needs.
"Cannot find the media for installation package vista sp2 mbr update 0x80070002"
Would "SP2" be refering to A Service Pack? This might be a job for Zune support.
Just found this thread on a Zune forum..seems you are not alone in this. This is very recent and would be a good place to watch to see what the solutions ends up being.
    http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/zune/thread/6b2d9e7d-3400-44fe-8ee0-45eb7f36159f
At the very least this seems to be the place to get some help for the Zune software (I saw another questions on Microsoft suppport site, and they were directed t here to get some help)

  • Kin Twom Software Update.

This phone needs a software update immediately. This is phone is terrible. It turns itself off all the time and the volume does not lock. The phone cases for these break to easily so I went Just bought a protective cover for the screen. Anytime anything touches the volume button it changes. And before a Verizon rep can say anything locking the screen doesn't help! You can't use any of the music on your phone as a ringtone. I understand you can email yourself through a text and add it but it would be easier the other way. It'd be nice if it had a on-screen keyboard but I don't know if that is software or firmware. And there are other little quirks about this phone. I don't want to have to buy a smart phone for a good phone. MAybe Verizon should get it off it's butt and serve those of us who don't buy a data plan or have a smartphone!

I doubt it. This is a WYSIWYG phone. I really like the phone, the DATA package was not for me. I had the Kin Onem and alas I dropped it and cracked the screen (only 2 wks old) I now have the Kin Twom and plan on taking better care of it.

  • Kin Twom initial setup

I just bought a Kin Twom and I cant finish the initial set up, When it asks to put in your email it wont go past that part, and it says if i do not complete that part i will have limited access to my phone and also will pop up that part of the phone set up every time I restart my phone. I have most data stuff blocked so i cant get any data fees, I called verizon and they unblocked my data for a few minutes and it still would not take my email... just wondering if anyone else has had a problem with initial set up of the phone.

    Courtney,
Are you certain your phone is twom?   I have discovered that mine was mislabeled and is the original two so it has the older OS on it.  I believe it is trying to use the now dis-functional KIN crap to login initially, hence the failure.  The easy way to tell is whether there is a green spot at the bottom of your screen after you reject the setup and get to the sample menu.  You could also look under the battery at the serial numbers... I think there should be an M somewhere? (My old ONEM had an M).

  • Kin twom out of stock

Hello I am just wondering if anyone knows if Verizon will get more kin twom since they are currently out of stock I would really like to get one saw them on say 3 days ago didn't have time to order it and now I can not online in store or through Verizon customer service. Any responses are thanked

  • How To Transfer Photo and Video from Kin Twom to PC?

My computer, Windows-Vista, does not show the Kin Twom icon. I don't know how to download photo and video taken from Kin Twom to PC. Kin Studio is phasing out and does not accept new member. What else can we do?

just found out, you are from my town!
ok, so you have your zune software downloaded and installed.
when you first open the software, it will show photos/videos/blah blah. Those are usually the contents (default) in your "My Music" "My Video" and "My Pictures" folders under your "My Documents" folder or "Libraries" (windows 7).
So to move those photoes, videos, and such in and out of the zune software, simply copy/cut/paste whatever you may like, and put them in those designated folders.
After opening Zune, connect Kin TwoM to your computer via the given USB cable.
If connected successfully, the Zune software will detect it and ask you to name your device. If not, then disconnect and retry.
Then to sync stuff to your Kin TwoM, under the Zune menu, go to "Collections" and choose whatever you like, click on them and drag to the lower left corner where a phone is presented in "black" color. If you successfully dragged an item there, the mouse cursor should changed to a red bubble with the number "1" in it. The number represents the amount of items you are dragging to the phone.
To sync stuff from the phone to your computer, go to the Phone section under Zune menu, should be about 3 or 4 items to the right of "Collections". Repeat what was said above, except this time, the little black phone at the lower left corner will be a black desktop.
    hope this helps!
