Kind of bug in Mission Control (Mountain Lion)

Hi,
I'm experiencing an issue with Mission control in ML. It's a little bit touchy to explain with my broken english !
In the first space, I opened the finder and tried to move it to the second space (quite simple). The first attempt do not work. As you can see, the space 2 do not change his color (first image). When I release the window, the window get back to his preliminary position (in space 1). The second attempt works fine, when I release the window on the second space, the window is well placed (good image). So, only one movement out of two do the trick. I can reproduce this each time. Is this a normal behavior ?

Thanks.

Following the fix here worked for me:

  • Mission Control causing Lion to crash.

    Hi all,
hopefully someone can help me out.
I installed Lion soon after it was released on my work computer (I know, I know) anyway, every time I launched Mission Control it would flash a grey screen and log out. I even lost some work - really annoying.
So I backed everything up and did a clean install, thinking that the iteration of Lion I had installed over top of Snow Leopard was maybe corrupt somehow. I began to reinstall my most critical apps and a few system tweaks that I use, and I've noticed that using Mission Control now is still causing all kinds of problems. I guess I can just deactivate it, but it's hella annoying and I'd really like to get to the bottom of the cause. I've done some troubleshooting and removed some things but have not been able to isolate the problem. I've looked through the console, but not being super fluent in consolese have not located the clear culprit.
I have a feeling it's a graphics card issue, but I'm not sure, and if it is, I have no clue how to fix it.
Below is the console log from the time Mission Control is activated to the crash. Hopefully someone out there can decipher this and give me some insight as to what is the issue. Thanks!!!
(By the way, I'm running a 24-inch, Late 2006 iMac 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 128 MB, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.)

Ok, so after looking in the kernel.log section of the console, and seeing this:

it looks like the GPU is kinda screwed up. I found this thread: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2268642?start=0&tstart=0 that discusses replacing the graphics card. Looks like this http://www.macpalace.com/mac-parts/p/661-4180-card-video-nvidia-geforce-7600-gt- 256-mb-vram/ is about the best price ($229)I can find with a quick search, so it's either:
    a) leave it as is and not use mission control and wait till I can afford to upgrade to a new rig
    b) spend $250 or so with shipping and do the replacement myself, and hope that fixes the problem
    Hmmm.

  • Showing minimized windows in mission control in LION

Hello All..Just installed LION On my 13' MBP...I have a small problem with the mission control...Previously, i have a hot corner set up which shows all the open windows at one time ( also shows the minimized ones)..but now, i can only see the the ones which are open....for example if i have chrome browser minimized , it is not showing....kind of very annoying....any one please help...Thanks

App Expose is fine if you knew the window you were looking for was minimized, instead of hidden behind another window.
Also you need to be in that app to bring up its minimised windows - which is irritating if you are using more than one app to manipulate files.

  • App Expose and Mission Control in Lion

Several people have posted, confused by how App Expose works. I hope to clarify the function of App Expose and Mission Control.
    APP EXPOSE
App Expose in Lion works differently than Expose did in Snow Leopard.
App Expose is intended to show all open windows from the same application.
Expose used to show all open windows from all applications.
To test App Expose in Lion, open two (or more) separate windows in Safari (or any application). Three-finger swipe down on your trackpad and App Expose will reveal your two (or more) open Safari windows.
    MISSION CONRTOL
In Lion, the most similar thing to the old Expose (from Snow Leopard) is the new Mission Control.
To test Mission Control, open several applications. Three-finger swipe up on your trackpad and Mission Control will reveal all open applications, dashboard and spaces. If you have multiple windows open in a single applications (like three separate Safari windows, for example), MIssion Control groups those same-app windows together.

Mission Control ended years of divergent attempts to manage windows and widgets, consolidating Expose, Dashboard, and Spaces into a new Mac interface.

  • Mission Control Bug

    Hi,
I found a bug on Mission Control.
I think i will explain good.. sorry about my language.
    I have two applications:
    - Adobe Flash
    - Cornerstone
I assign "Desktop 2" to Adobe Flash.
I assign "Desktop 3" to Cornerstone (SVN Client)
When i go to "Desktop 3 - Cornerstone" and inside of the application i double click on *.fla, Lion goes to the Desktop 2 and returns to Desktop 3...
If i go to Mission Control, i can see these two applications are on "Desktop 3" and "Desktop 2" is empty.
And Mission Control "Desktop 3" shows the two applications like this:
Other question, is not posible to set custom order of desktops?
    Thanks,
    manu

I really a bug, or im doing something wrong? thanks i report the bug.. i hope they fix fast
And my last question of custom order of desktops?
    Thanks

  • How can i use my pictures for Mission Control Spaces in Lion?

How do I get a chosen selection of my own photos to be available for use as desktop pictures, with a different one for each Space in Mission Control in Lion?
I have a new Macbook Air, Thunderbolt display and Lion.

As long as your Office for Mac is 2011, you will have no problems using the programs.  If it is the Office for Mac 2008 version, there have been some mixed reviews.  2004 will not work at all.
I have the 2011 version and have not had any problems since upgrading to Lion.

  • Displaying minimized windows in expose and/or Mission Control

OK all of you big fans of the SL way of Expose'. I miss being able to see all of those minimized windows as well.
I have read in a couple places that this is new setup is not a bug, it was removed from Expose'/Mission Control in Lion. I also read that if Apple receives enough requests/complaints about the loss of that feature that they might possibly bring it back!
    SO....
Go to the OS X feedback page http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html  and let Apple know that you want it back! Remember don't jump all over them, be polite and to the point and let them know that you would like the feature back!
    I hope this works!
If you want, once you submit a request, let us all know that you are joining in the strugle to bring all the windows back to expose' !

    D0GG wrote:
You don't use Expose? Is that why you have been going to thread after thread of users that are missing this feature and posting the same answer?
Not sure why you are doing this... It completely baffles me.
I remember making one other post along these lines, for the same reason.  If there are more maybe you could post the links  "going to thread after thread" to verify your accusatory comments.
You are the first one who actually gave any kind of clarification, and I appreciate that. It will help me from wasting my time on exposé queries.
That is Expose displaying all the windows of your SELECTED app. On Snow Leopard you had the option to view ALL the windows of ALL the currently running apps, including the finder.
You find that  baffling,  I think that is your problem D0GG

  • Mission Control Only Showing App Icons, NOT Windows

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro Retina and am noticing a bug with Mission Control.  When I go to Mission Control to see all of the different windows I have open, it's showing just the app icons, NOT the actual app windows.  This occurs sporadically; sometimes it works properly, and sometimes it doesn't.  I actually realzied the same issue on my MacBook Pro (2009) after upgrading to Mountain Lion a few weeks ago, therefore it seems to be an OS issue and not a HW issue.
Here is a screen shot of what I see when Mission Control is not working properly:
Instead of those icons, it should be showing the actually windows within those apps that I have open.
    Any ideas?

I have this problem too and would love a solution...when it happens to me it only seems to be on one of my spaces, if I use gestures to get to another space Mission Control" works fine on a different space, but if I go back to the original space it stops working..I have found a fix, which is just move the active window slightly, yep, that actually works, and then Mission Control starts working again...it's weird...would still love to know what causes it, even though the fix is an easy one...
Just on the safari comments above, I have noticed this happens when one of the tab has "reader" activated...turning of 'reader' seems to fix the issue with safari...

  • Mission Control - What a horrible experience

First off, I am a long time OSX user dating back to the initial release.
Each iteration of the the OS has generally built upon the features of the prior version, and usually included new, exciting, usable features.
Mission Control in Lion adds some new functionality for workspace and application window management.  It's another way to get around.
Apple's mistake?  Removing Expose and Spaces.
Has a single solitary person at Apple actually used Mission Control on a dual display setup?  No - Let me rephrase - I mean have they actually *used* it to get anything done?
While in Mission Control, I can't move a window from the right display to the left?  Really?  What were you thinking, Apple?
While in Mission Control, I can't see which display on the left goes with which display on the right?  How am I supposed to quickly move a window to the right monitor for an application shown on a left monitor?  No - Really - Try it.
While in Mission Control, I can't see all of my application windows - Just some lame (and I mean LAME) stack of a couple of windows for the application.  Yes, I know I can swipe and see a little bit more, but I can never see all of them.
Expose and Spaces could handle ALL of that above, and did it logically, and without any fuss.
Mission Control isn't just "inconvenient", it is downright painful!
Please - Please - Please - Put the option of Expose and Spaces back.  Mission Control may be "cool" for some configurations (laptops, etc), but for those of us who use OSX daily to get work done, it takes a multi-display Mac and makes it useless.
Oh - And full screen apps?  Did ANYONE at Apple test that idea on dual display Macs?  Did you happen to notice that the full screen app makes the second monitor a fancy paperweight?

    I agree too.
This is what I've sent to https://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
Feel free to use portions of the text to send your own feedback.
Takes just a few seconds and probably helps to improve Mission Control. At least we have no other chance of pushing things.
    Dear Apple,
having used Apple Systems since OS 7, it is a real pain to see, what you have done to the usability of Mac OSX with the switch to Mission Control.
Has anyone of your engineers ever tried to use Mission Control on a dual display setup? I don't think so, otherwise you immediately should have realized, how broken it is:
    • You can't move a window from one display to the other.
    • You can't move windows between desktops. Instead you first have to go to each source desktop and move the windows from there to your destination desktops.
    • Usually you think in "dual display desktops" not in individual left and right desktops. The organization in Spaces, showing left and right display side by side, was logical. In Mission Control you permanently have to match left and right displays of a desktop by reading the desktop number or even worse count their position, aka. 3rd desktop from left.
    • You can't use your second display in full screen mode as it only shows a gray pattern. Unbelievable!
I admit, Mission Control and Fullscreen Mode have their place on a MacBook Air, but for a big screen, dual display setup they are completely useless in their actual state.
Currently reverting back to Snow Leopard is the only way to work efficiently with a dual display setup due to these flaws in Mission Control.
I dearly ask you to bring back Spaces to Lion or bring over the missing functionality of Spaces to Mission Control, before Snow Leopard becomes unsupported by current software.
I'm really disappointed, that even in 10.7.2 none of these issues are addressed.

  • ATV2 Home Sharing Drops Since Mountain Lion Upgrade

I've found some stuff close to my issue, but really nothing addressing my issue.  I have 3 Apple TV 2's.  When running my 27" Mac on Lion, everything streamed wonderfully.  I have a BIG router capable of handling movie streaming, so the network should NOT be the problem.  After installing Mountain Lion, all three of my Apple TV's have been getting dropped from Home Sharing during the middle of a media stream.  It happens with regularity with music and movies.  Even Netfilx streams drop because Home Sharing drops out.  The only way to fix it thus far is to disconnect and re-connect Home Sharing at the 27" Mac, where the streams originate.  I'm certain this problem is due to the Mountain Lion upgrade.  Is there a fix or do I need to wait for Apple to push something out to us?

For anyone else having the "white screen" issue with youtube, and/or yahoo issue. I seemed to have repaired the issue. I turned the parental controls off for both of my kids accounts, restarted my Mac, and the problem vanished.
I also turned the parental controls back on after this, restarted the computer, and the problem came back.
*** This is 100% a Parental Control/Mountain Lion glitch. Hopefully Apple knows and is working on a solution. The sooner they fix it, the sooner I can turn the parental controls back onto my kids accounts.

  • Problems with iMac since Mountain Lion upgrade

So , several problems that I have experienced since upgrading to Mountain Lion.
    1. When I "log off" off my iMac from the top left "apple" symbol, I get the rainbow wheel of death.
    2. When accessing YouTube home screen or yahoo in Safari, the page is a white screen. Nothing more, nothing less.
            *  I have been reading some people saying that this happens to them too, but only when using an account with parental controls.
    3. Hard drive "grinds" incessantly.
            * I have never even seen the rainbow wheel or heard my hard drive grind on my iMac untill this upgrade.
Anybody know of any solutions, or also having these issues?

  • Mission Control new spaces wallpapers

I set up the iPhoto gallery for wallpaper. It changes every half an hour.
What I really like is the new feature - every newly created space in Mission Control comes out with different wallpaper. Useful and great.
And have a tiny bug: in Mission Control pointing to add new space button (Right Top corner) this button always has thumb of first space's wallpaper. Please fix it)

No offence, but just to be sure...
When you click on the '+' button over there on the right-hand side of the MC window, you ARE then clicking in the new thumbnail that shows up, and not just exiting MC back into your current desktop, right?
