[kinda solved] Intel HD4000 screen corruption

Kernel 3.3.8 and results in screen corruptions right after "udev" finishind events. The system freezes and that's it.
Kernel LTS kind of works, but I get minor glitches when running gnome-shell (guess - 3.0.x has no Ivy Bridge support).
I did already try to recreate the initramfs via
mkinitcipio -p linux
(3.3.8, not lts) with the modules
i915
aswell as
intel_agp
(/etc/mkinitcpio.conf) specified, but neither did change anything.
Additional kernel-params
i915.modeset=1 i915.semaphores
do not change anything.
Booting with
nomodeset=1
kind of works, but I can not start a X session due to KMS/modesetting being required for the driver.
I also played around with BIOS settings enabling and disabling RC6 and render idle modes in the BIOS do have no effect either (I did not enforce/disable RC6 via kernel-options yet).
Any help is appreciated
Thanks a million

I can't seem to change the full screen scale on my intel onboard card with KDE. The instruction on the Intel Arch Wiki only works in Gnome.

That's because dragonplayer scales the video to your screen's native resolution. This option matters when you're running something with a lower resolution that the screen's native. Though I don't see why KDE vs. Gnome vs. anything would matter here. Unless KDE is being stubborn and is overriding what you set on the commandline. For me that would be one further reason to move away from KDE.

• MBA 2012 Windows 8.1 Intel HD4000 - Black Screen after driver install.

Hi to all. I'm tried to install Windows 8.1 to my macbook air 13 2012. Everytime when I try to install drivers for HD4000 screen turns black, and stops responding. I'm tried different drivers - from bootcamp, from intel.com, from lenovo, from windows update, but all of them makes screen black, also I'm tried different version, but it still don't work.
Anybody have solution or some ideas? Thanks.
p.s. Sorry for my bad English.

Probabily the best solution but I installed this OS-crap 2 times already! And I think I am not supposed to solve HP/MS problems since I paid for this.

• T430 Intel HD4000 driver update crash and won't reinstall

I clicked Update Driver under properties for the Intel HD4000 and the laptop crashed. On reboot, the display is shown as a Generic PnP Moniter with Standard VGA Graphics Adapter also the driver for the graphic adapter shows 8-bit with a driver date from 2006. I tried to manually update the driver from the Lenovo site but it says the system doesn't support it.
The laptop is less than 30 days old. It also has the Nvidia video.
Solved!
Go to Solution.

Don't use the Update Driver button in Device Manager. It doesn't really work properly. Use System Update and Windows Update.

• G780 screen Corruption

Please help,
I have screen corruption identical to the type "B" kind shown in this Lenovo link:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht001223
I have the most updated BIOS (v9.01) and video drivers from Lenovo. The laptop is Intel pentium cpu 2020 @2.40 ghz x2, single dimm with 4 gb ram. Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.sp1 When I plug in and external monitor that works fine. The laptop screen is fine for about 2 minutes when I first turn it on when it's been off for a while. There is a faint horizontal line about 3/4 inch from the top and everything above that line is fine and everything below it is corrupted. It's about 2 years old. If I restart, the corruption is in the in the opening screen too before Windows loads.

Are you talking about individual pixels or larger blocks on the screen?
If they are just individual pixels they are probably stuck (as in caused by the monitor, not the video card). Pixels can get stuck on/off, just in one color or just about any combination. You might try a program like this to check if it is a stuck pixel.:

• Acer WQHD Display on Mac Mini i7 with Intel HD4000 chipset.

I have an i7 Mac Mini with the Intel HD4000 video. I have an Acer T272HUL monitor that will display WQHD (2560 x 1440), the exact resolution (and display panel) as the Apple 27" Cinema Display. When the resolution is set at the full 2560x1440 resolution in Mavericks, the screen fonts look terrible. I am using a Displayport cable, so it has the proper bandwidth for this monitor. Under a Boot Camp Windows 8 partition, I can run this display at its full resolution with crisp screen fonts. How can I get the OSX side of my Mini to display correctly? I need the touchscreen in Win 8, so changing to an Apple 27" Cinema Display (at the same price) is not an option. Someone out there must know how to do this.
Thanks

• Firefox 16.02 hardware acceleration osx imac started causing screen corruption

Weird screen corruption with Firefox 16.02 with hardware acceleration switched on.
iMac 11,1 Intel Core i7 2.8 GHz running OSX 10.6.8 with ATI Radeon HD 4850 display hardware.
Some bizarre effects like a surround on two sides (top and right) of main Firefox window with elements captured from the top and side of main screen which on occasions flash at high speed and also a mouse focal point offset
I've tried Firefox safe mode and extensions plugins disabled and it definitely seems to be caused by switching hardware acceleration on as problems disappear when switched off.
Never had this problem before in several years use of Firefox until 16.02

Thanks for the link. Has something changed in FF v16.02 hardware acceleration that you are aware of that might have caused this?

• Screen corruption 17" MBP i7

i all
Just noticed this problem in the last few months.
Have a unibody 17" i7 MBP and get the screen corruption primarily when running Safari 5.0 (whatever the newest build is).
Interestingly enough I run a program called gxfCardStatus and if I choose Nvidia rather than Intel (or Auto which = Intel) the corruption goes away. If I choose Intel again the corruption is back.
Not sure if this is a hardware issue or just a serious bug introduced by Safari 5.0. I don't remember having the problem before upgrading.
Here is a screen capture
http://users.tpg.com.au/soupratt/test2.jpg

As I recall, the new MBPs have dual GPUs which can be alternated between. So, it looks like your low power Intel graphics chip is bad. Which means you have a choice.
Option A is to take it to an Apple store or AASP to have the logic board replaced.
Option B is to just keep using the nVidia graphics chip, sacrificing some battery life when you don't really need the extra graphics processing power.

• MSI Radeon R9 270X Hawk - Screen corruption

Hello,
I dearly ask for your help, I have an issue with my MSI HAWK Radeon R9 270X, after using my computer for a while the screen on the primary/secondary monitor will become unreadable(see the first link), If I switch the monitor off via Catalyst Control Center the screen corruption will appear onto the other monitor. Maybe the newer BIOS would help, I have the same issue with another MSI HAWK R9 270X. I didn't have any problems with my former video cards (Geforce GTS 250, GTS450, Radeon 6850 and Radeon 7850).
I tried both 13.12 drivers as well as the newest betas 14.1 ,the only difference was the first target affected, on 13.12 the corruption would appear on primary monitor whereas on 14.1 it would affect the secondary one.
Also occasionally I experience the screen flicker issue as well, maybe newer BIOS could solve both of them.
My system specs:
Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 with 2104 Bios version
4x Corsair XMS 2000MHz 4GB
Thermaltake Evo Blue 2.0 750W Power Supply

Monitor#2 BenQ FP73E S
Both of them connected via DVI

I would appreciate any help from you guys

Can't download the vbios from that site you linked to.
None the less >>this<< is the latest vbios
TV303MH.131 is normal vbios, TV303MH.141 is LN2
Create a bootable usb stick (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=165175.0).
Then unpack the previously provided archive (131_141.rar) and put the included file (TV303MH.131 or TV303MH.141) on that stick.
Rename TV303MH.131 / TV303MH.141 to 131.rom / 141.rom. Put the atiflash.exe also included in the archive on the USB stick too. Now boot from the stick.
Type atiflash -p -f -noaper 0 131.rom (or 141.rom) [ENTER] and let it flash the vbios.

• T500 Windows 7 Screen Corruption

I have reasonably new T500 (2242-CTO) that was originally loaded with Vista and 'downgraded' to XP. I've been forced to rebuild the machine and decided to go straight for Windows 7.
The T500 is noted as supporting Windows 7 and has been built as per the Lenovo instructions, here...
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-74108
The build is done from a clean hard drive. I have run the build twice, once using ThinkVantage System Update 4.0 and a second time installing Windows 7 drivers in the specified order. Both resulting in the same problem.
Windows 7 (Ultimate, x86 version) fires up fine and runs with the Aero interface and everything looks fine. Transparency and window animation etc. is working. But after using the machine for a short time and opening up an application or two I get blocks of screen corruption, typically in areas of the screen being repainted. The corruption can be seen anywhere on the screen, including the taskbar area. Minimising then restoring typically cleans up the screen for a while.
On one occasion I heard what I believe was the hard disk powering down (a faint clunk) and corruption appeared at exactly the same time.
The machine has the Intel X4500-HD graphics accelerator and if the driver for this is not installed then no corruption is seen (but the Aero interface isn't supported.)
When I used the Lenovo System Update method to build the machine there was a PC Doctor utility. The PC Doctor UI became corrupted prior to running diags but all of its video diags ran, looked fine, and passed.
From a graphics point of view the machine worked flawlessly under XP.

I had a very very similar problem with my x200 running on an Intel integrated graphics GPU (x4500). The work-around I found to eliminate this visual tearing problem was to disable Intel "VT-D" in the BIOS. I have absolutely no good reason why this works, but it did the trick for me.

• 2 External Monitors with the T430s with Intel HD4000

I have read several multiple monitor threads but could not get a clear solution to this.
Model: I have a T430s with Intel HD4000 graphics.
Desired set up: 2 External Monitors + Lenovo LCD
Problem: It seems that I can only drive one external monitor. I'd like to drive two external monitors, as I did previously with my T420.
What I've tried: I have a dock and have tried VGA + DVI for the external monitors, as well as DVI + DVI. Neither setup has worked. It always greys out the third monitor in the Windows Display options.
Any thoughts on how to drive two external monitors with the T430s? Clarity is appreciated. Thank you!

RobertWerner2 wrote:
If I'm reading the link you provided correctly, can I correctly assume that I CAN connect two external displays with just the W520 Laptop and NO docking station?
I tested this today. You can connect two external displays (1 VGA, 1 DisplayPort) without a docking station. The result is 3 independent displays - the ThinkPad LCD, the VGA monitor, and the DisplayPort monitor.

Hi There,
My 17" intel iMac screen froze then has gone completely blank..

If it won't startup in Safe Mode, then try Startup Manager or the Apple Hardware Test from your original Install Disc.

• Please Help - Screen corruption while in Aperture - graphics card problem?

Over the past few weeks, I have noticed frequent screen corruption within the confines of the image that I am currently editing. The corruption only occurs when in Aperture. The corruption occurs as multiple thin (one pixel?) horizontal lines of random color and random length that occur in random locations within the image. If I force a re-calculation of the image (such as change white balance) the random lines will disappear, only to reappear somewhere else. The actual image (after export) is never corrupted, only the display. Recently Aperture has started to "hang" in random ways, sometimes freezing the whole machine, sometimes crashing, sometimes beach-balling.
This sounds like a hardware problem to me, but the standard Apple hardware test runs without errors, as does an extended memtest. Setup: Mac Pro, 5GB, SW fully updated to 10.4.11 and Aperture 1.5.6. I tried re-seating the graphics board to no avail.
Are there any programs that I can use to test the Radeon X1900 card?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks David,
I did some more research and it appears that quite a few of us (unlucky) users with an early version of the Radeon X1900 graphics card are now seeing failures that appear to be due to poor heat dissipation by the graphics card. There's a huge thread on the subject here:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1195969
The problem with random display glitches doesn't show up for most people until they upgrade to Leopard, which puts a larger strain on the graphics card than Tiger. I am still running Tiger, but the glitches show up for me when using Aperture, which of course uses the graphics card more aggressively than most other programs. I assume that Aperture increases the heat which causes the glitches.
I tried cleaning the dust out of the Radeon's heat sink, and I added a tool (smcFanControl) that lets me manually override the default fan speed. By keeping the card's temperature lower, the glitches have gone away. If I let the temperature rise, they come back. Looks like I'll be needed a new graphics card.

• Screen corruption in openbox

Switched from KDE to openbox today and getting weird screen corruption (not sure that's the correct term but never mind) in loads of applications, on things like the terminal if I scroll up then back down it dissapears but in things like deluge there's no way to get rid of it at all
Sometimes it's just black and white (like in the screenshot) and other times there's lines of different colours.
Not using testing repo, graphics card is ATI HD3200 and using the xf86-video-ati driver from extra.
Any ideas what's causing it or how to get rid of it?
Thanks

Same problem as here I guess. First off, try another GTK theme and see if that helps.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
* Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
