[kinda SOLVED]video-intel KMS problems

Hello everyone.
I did a fresh install and I'd really appreciate some help setting up KMS properly.
So far I'm able to run gnome-shell with all the effects,
but:
1. I only get 1024x768 resolution instead of my native: 1920x1080.
2. console is limited to small area when booting up (even though I did as the wiki suggests)
3. I followed the wiki:(https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Intel) step by step, several times
but nothing I do seems to have any effect!
At last, I decided to stop rebooting and ask for help.
please help me troubleshoot this!
thank you for your time!
p.s.1 here's a similar topic I found
though in my case I don't get weird artifacts
p.s.2. my graphics card is the one built in core i5.
[edit] I just fixed the resolution problem: for some unknown reason, gnome did not have my monitor selected by default
instead it defaulted to an "unknown device" which only supports 800χ600 and 1024χ1768. Weird.

Are you using a laptop or desktop?
Cause I had a similar problem with a nettop with an Intel Atom procesor; the fix for me was to disable the LVDS in grub to get working my native resolution.

This happens to me on a lenovo X220T.  I also have a lenovo U350 (not sandy
bridge), and that works fine.  Can anyone else confirm this so I can get a bug
    report started?
    A few notes:
    * Reverting to the 2.20.8 driver fixes the issue.
    * It doesn't matter which screen I rotate, or if I have externals connected at
all.  xrandr seems to always crash.
    * My kernel is slightly outdated (3.4.9-1), due to some other X220T issues:
      https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/31384
    Thanks!
*EDIT*: searching a little harder discovers this bug:
    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55602
Which I think is the same thing.  I'll try to help them out...
*EDIT2*: Sorry for all the noise!  I think this issue is resolved upstream:
    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55527
    I'll mark this as solved.

  • [SOLVED]xf86-video-intel-2.13.0-2 - Black screen/windows

I've upgraded from xf86-video-intel-2.13.0-1 to release 2 and now every GL window is black, with no rendering.
For example, glxgears give-me a black empty window with no rendering, also the games stoped working.
I can confirm this issue on this igp:
    (II) intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) Q35
    Mesa 7.9
    Any more confirmations?
Downgrading to extra/xf86-video-intel solves the problem.

  • Old problem kinda solved but now I got a CRC problem, begging for help.

I have kinda solved the problem I had in my previous post:
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=84615.0
However now I have a new problem. I solved my other problem by moving the memories from the 2 green slots on the mainboard to 1 green and 1 purple. I started the computer and managed to ged rid of the bluescreen and the freezes but not without the cost of a new problem.
My new problem is that I get alot of CRC errors now when installing biggers things ( Like most games for example). Before I switched one of the memory sticks to purple I didnt seem to have these problems since I managed to install a few games ( Painkiller, warcraft 3 FT, battlefield 2 for example) but now with the sticks in green and purple Im having problems installing most games ( Got crc error on painkiller expansion, farcry, cold fear for example. however I got empire earth 2 to get installed).
Ive hard this problem could be cause of an faulty hard disk but Ive used both of the ones I have installed right now in my old computer and they worked perfectly there.
Anyone got any suggestion on what the problem can be?
I would get extremely happy if someone could help me fix this problem.

What hard drive do you have?  Can you put these specifics in your sig.  Anyway, when games freeze after 20 minutes its either not enough juice from the power supply...(I have a tagan but its a 480w u22 with 12v@30a) OR, its high temps.  What are your temps?
Second, do you have "matched pair" of ram or did you buy them separately.
EDIT: What are your drivers for the video card too, are you using the latest ones from nvidia?

The manual does state to fill up the green slots before using the purple slots. I've noticed the memory dimms are fickle as well. I was having issues with the memory slots.
Put the memory in slots 1 and 3 first and see what happens.
TR, you will miss the benefit of dual channel, I made this same mistake but it is talked about greatly on this forum.  If you have matched pairs, then either slots 1&2 or 3&4 are the best combinations for dual channel.  Just my 2 cents.

  • Some problems with 3D with xorg 1.9.2-1 and xf86-video-intel 2.12.0-3

I have some problems with the upgrade to xorg 1.9.1-1 and xf86-video-intel 2.12.0-3. Glxgears does not run smoothly at all and I got 15-20 fps (instead of the normal 60 because intel should sync with the V refresh rate). Very curiously, these problems disapear if I move the mouse cursor somewhere in the screen. Then glxgears run smooth and I have indeed the expected 60 fps
There are no error messages and glxinfo say that 3D is indeed enabled.

Do you have problems with anything that's *not* glxgears?
I have indeed not seen other problems. Presently the only other software that I believe use openGL that I use is googleearth; which run fine. Could it be a problem with glxgears?

  • [Solved] xf86-video-Intel-2.99.912-1 breaks xorg

After the update yesterday of the this driver my xorg does not start anymore.
I reverted to xf86-video-Intel-2.99.911-2 and the problem went away.
Can someone please shed some light on this.
Below is the output of Xorg.0.log.

  • Xf86-video-intel 2.6.3-2 problem

    Hello,
after upgrade from 2.6.3-1 to 2.6.3-2 of xf86-video-intel driver I have got problem with 3D.
For example - KDE4-2 hangs (the kayboard stop working)
When I test it with twm -t then I have no problem with keyboard, but with 3D. The glxgears
    shows chaotic tringles (not gears).
In Xorg.0.log I have got strange devices detected by evdev driver. There is something about Video bus detected
    as Input Keyboard (few times).
After downgrade xf86-video-intel to 2.6.3-1 everything works fine again.
What is strange - after problems with display and keyboard under kde4 - the bios of my laptop (DELL E6400)
was starting very long time (more than 1 minute) from BIOS boot logo and progress bar to lilo display.
    best regards

After hard locks the E6400 BIOS checks the memory thoroughly. This should only happen once after the lockup.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • [upstr] textdisplay problems after update to xf86-video-intel-2.99.911

Hardware: Intel 855GM integrated graphics. Driver: xf86-video-intel
    Versions
    * xf86-video-intel-2.99.911-1-i686
    * xf86-video-intel-2.99.911-2-i686 (current)
produce display errors on http://www.faz.net/ in Firefox (using a fresh profile results in same error) under KDE4, TWM, openbox and LXDE. See article text screenshot http://i.imgur.com/xV4sxni.png. Missing text lines, in the headlines on hover, in the main text after load but more severe after scrolling a bit. Everything else displays fine (images, firefox' GUI).
The error does also occur under another user account (with nearly standard settings) in KDE4 (same computer). All packages up to date.
NO errors with xf86-video-intel-2.99.910-1-i686 (to which I have downgraded now). With this and the older versions I had no such problems since months.
NO errors in other programs like Chromium or Konqueror (but did not test that much, Firefox is what I use often).
Note that SNA cannot be a issue since my hardware is older and it worked after the given (in the wiki) date.
Should I report this as a bug against this package? Does anyone have any tips or even being able to reproduce? Thank you all!
(Edit 1 and 2: error also happens under openbox, not sure why I did not see it during the first try.)

Thanks, Andy. Yes I tried with the -2 version, it has the same problem.
I did not find any previous upstream reports matching this problem. I also did not find any other mentions of this problem anywhere else.  Okay I will try to report it there upstream in the next few days.

  • [SOLVED] xf86-video-intel update to 2.99.912-1 breaks video rendering

After a full system update today video  playback in X windows (both hardware-accelerated and not) breaks horribly. Playing back videos causes tearing, black areas of the screen and then a hard lock-up.
Looking back through the updated packages and testing one-by-one reveals the immediate culprit to be the update to xf86-video-intel from 2.99.911-2 to 2.99.912-1. Rolling back just this package restores everything to working order (including hardware-accelerated video).
    Other hopefully relevant installed packages:
    linux 3.15.1-1
    libva 1.3.1-1
    libva-intel-driver 1.3.2-1
    mesa 10.2.1-2
    mesa-libgl 10.2.1-2
    intel-dri 10.2.1-2
My GPU is Intel(R) HD Graphics 2500, the CPU is Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3220T.
With either version of xf86-video-intel installed my desktop environment loads successfully, and works normally, up to the point where any video playback is attempted.

I had the same issue and downgrading to 2.99.911 fixed it.
Could you file a bug report for the package to disable the Tear-Free option again?
    Thanks!
    [Edit]
I took a look at the package files and couldn't see anything related to "Tear-Free". Would you mind to tell me what you meant?
    [/Edit]
    [Edit 2]
This seems related. However, I don't feel like patching and building the driver. I guess I just wait for 913 and complain again if it's still broken then.

  • Intel KMS with live usb boot

Hey. I've KMS (early start) working perfectly on an older 82845 card with all the newest updates to core (2.6.32, etc) and xf86-video-intel. However, using a larch bootable flash drive with all the same packages, I can't get KMS to engage -- early OR late start.
Is there something different about the speed or ??? with a flash drive boot?  I've been careful to ensure the .img file created from mkinitcpio had the correct hooks and the 'intel_agp i915' modules. I added the 'i915.modeset=1' to the kernel line in grub. It still boots fine with the new .img file, it just won't start KMS. Would be nice to have KMS, because there is substantial display corruption that occurs when I switch virtual terminals without KMS.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

I have an early 2006 intel iMac and am having the same problem with the new keyboard. Called AppleCare, who sent me to the local Apple Store after trying several minutes in vain to cure the problem.
One of the Genius's at the Apple Store pulled up Article 306893, Apple Keyboard (2007): Cannot boot to Startup Manager. This is a document that's apparently not available to the public, as I have the printed copy, but have been unable to pull it up in my searches.
The issue is some intel-based iMacs and Mac mini computers shipped prior to 2007 may not boot to the Startup Manager when holding down the Option key on the aluminum keyboard (2007).
My iMac is listed among the products affected.
The solution they offer is to follow these steps:
    1. While starting the computer, point the Apple remote at the computer and hold down the Menu button. The computer should boot into the Startup manager.
    2. Use the Fast Forward and Rewind buttons to select the desired boot volume.
    3. Once the desired boot volume is selected, press the Play / Pause button to continue booting.
Hope this helps. It works for my system. Still doesn't solve the keyboard issue but offers an acceptable workaround.

  • Xf86-video-intel 2.10 may required xorg.conf changes?

Upon upgrading to xf86-video-intel 2.10.0-1, my dual monitor xorg.conf setup was no longer working (both monitors displayed the same low-resolution content).  The fix involved the following search/replace operations in xorg.conf:
    - replace "monitor-LVDS" with "monitor-LVDS1"
    - replace "monitor-TMDS-1" with "monitor-DVI1"
    - replace "monitor-VGA" with "monitor-VGA1"
    A couple of questions:
    - Was the xf-video-intel upgrade responsible for the problem I encountered?
    - If so, is this documented anywhere?  (It doesn't seem to be in the 2.10.0 release notes).

no, you were using UMS, which defined display ports that way.
the KMS method in use now names your ports LVDS1, DVI1 and VGA1. the reason this happened with the 2.10 drivers is that they now require KMS to work, you were forced to switch.

  • Xf86-video-intel disable tv

I am on a lenovo T61 laptop.  I was running xorg 1.2 (current) without any xorg.conf with kde and everything worked fine, i had the right resolution of 1440x900, except i had no video acceleration ( intel 965 chipset/X3100). I did Xorg -configure to write an xorg.conf to disk and put it in /ext/X11/xorg.conf. I rebooted and everything was fine. I then enabled the testing repo, and updated xorg to 1.3 and installed the xf86-video-intel driver, though i didnt enable. Again i rebooted and everything was working except video acceleration. I then enable the i810 driver in xorg.conf and rebooted. It loaded, but now my screen isnt configured properly. Kde detects my screen as 1024x768, but video is still being output at 1440x900; this leads to kde taking up about 1/2 the screen and making control awkward. xrandr shows that the internal monitor is displaying at 1440x900, but that a tv is detected and playing at 1024x768. This leads me to think that kde is picking up on the tv resolution and tries to display as if that was my monitors resolution. No tv is connected.
So I guess the question that i should be asking: how do i disable tv out on the i965/X3100 chipset with the xf86-video-intel driver?

Well, i found the following thread which solved my problem: http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showth … p?t=159516
    made the following alterations:
"One thing that you might run into (I did) is that GDM doesn't use the entire screen. Neither does gnome. This is because the TV output is enabled. You can disable it by adding the following commands to your xorg.conf
    Section "Monitor"
    Identifier "TVOutput"
    Option "Disable" "true"
    EndSection
and then in the Device Section add the following
    Option "monitor-TV" "TVOutput""
Now everything seems to be working. The only problem, if it is one, is that xrandr only outputs "xrandr: Output TV is not disconnected but has no modes" instead of all the modes available for my laptop screen and which one is running.
