Kiosk mode and iWeb '08

I have made the upgrade to iWeb '08 and now I don't know how to do some of the things I used to do with '06. I need to disable the "save as" option for .mov files that I post on my site. I also want to make it so that the filed can't be dragged copied to someone's desktop. In '06, I could change the kiosk mode to kiosk mode=true to disable the right click/save as feature in QT Pro.
How do I do this in iWeb '08?
Thank you so much for your help!

Some additional information....
I am hosting this website on my own server (a MacPro). Can I disable downloading by clicking the "Enable Kiosk Mode" setting in the QuickTime Pro advanced setting on the server?
Thanks!
Jim

  • How do you disable the notifications that display at the bottom of the page when requesting a page (i.e. "waiting...", "connecting...")? I am trying to run Firefox in a kiosk mode and remove any indication that the content is online.

I have an iFrame setup to display multiple pages using a timer and an array to automatically change the source of an iFrame every "x" seconds. Each time the iFrame source is changed, a small gray notification box appears (for about 1 second or so) at the bottom left part of the screen that seems to indicate a new page is loading. I would like to remove that notification so the page will change seamlessly without indicating that the source for the iFrame has changed.

You can use this extension to hide the pop-up that shows the URL of a link on hover and other data that previously appeared on the Status bar.

  • How to disable dangerous options in on screen keyboard in kiosk mode?

    Hello,
I'm trying to make a kiosk like application based on Windows 7. I run locked down IE in kiosk mode and that's quite OK.
However when I run the OSK.exe (on screen keyboard) - it has two dangerous buttons: Options (where I can click on "Control whether the On-Screen Keyboard starts when I log on" link and then run Windows explorer, and Help (where I can go to Options, and then
click on "Read the privacy statement online" link that brings me fresh IE).
Is there way to disable in OSK those two buttons?
For instance, when I run OSK on logon screen it hides the Help button and the dangerous link in the Options button, so it's possible at least for MS. Is it possible for plain customers?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nikolai.
    WBR, Nikolai

    Hi,
Based on my test and research, I’m afraid that the two options of On-screen Keyboard may not be disabled.
    Instead, you can use
Tablet PC Input Panel and see how it works.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can I run an iMac G3 266 in Kiosk mode?

I have an old iMac G3 266 that I want to donate to the local YMCA.
They need something to have for members to complete an online form.
The computer is running OS 8.6.
Is there a way I can:
    1) Run it in kiosk mode and have it go to one website
    OR
    2) Upgrade it to OS X and run it in kiosk mode
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I suggest checking out iCab. See icab.de
    "Kiosk mode
While in Kiosk mode, iCab will cover the whole screen and all other applications are blocked. The Kiosk mode is the ideal environment when the computer is accessing a public place (like fairs, exhibitions, hotels etc.) where users should be able to obtain information, yet prevent any external access to your system. Additionally, the access can be restricted to certain pages (even refusing referrals, if you choose)."

  • Presentations with Video in Kiosk mode on iPad

    Hi
I'm looking for a way to show presentations on the iPad that have a mix of slides and embedded video, and to prevent naive users from accidentally exiting the presentation.
What I have is a Keynote presentation with couple of static introductory slides, then a series of slides with 3-5 minute videos on each, then a series of static slides at the end. I tried Keynote on the iPad but it was unintuitive to navigate even for an experienced iPad user: it is too easy to exit View mode and return to Edit mode. Someone new to the iPad often makes unclear gestures and random taps.
There was no obvious way to control the video playback either, eg when flipping backwards through the slides. I could work around this by adding a "click to play" image as the first few frames of each video...
Nice to have (but not essential) is a way to lock the user into the application, so that if they accidentally or deliberately press the Home button it will stay in the Presentation.
I've hunted for ages on the App Store but not found anything suitable. Your suggestions welcome.
    Thanks for your help

Still not clear to me. It is an interesting challenge and I'd like to help figure it out. It'll be a learning for both of us. My questions are...
What is "Kiosk mode" and how is it indicated?
Do you want the video playing (and visible) behind the picture slides?
Will the picture slides be appearing and disappearing individually (i.e. there will not be more than one cast member visible at any one time)?
Are the 35 picture slides of 35 cast members with their names?
Do you have two distinct videos?
I am still of the opinion that the videos will be the only two slides in this presentation (with their respective lengths indicated) and that the pictures of the cast members will be placed on these slides as inserts and they will enter and exit using build-in and build-out parameters which will add up to the total time of the videos.
Like I said, it's a learning experience for both of us. Are you up for it?

  • Click URL to open in IE while another web page has been opened in kiosk mode.

    I am using IE8 in Window 7.
I opened a certain web page in kiosk mode (call IE browser with -k option, a full screen without window frame). While this page remained opened, I pressed ‘Window key + D’ to return to desktop. After that I went to Microsoft Outlook, opened
a mail and clicked a URL in the mail. The URL was opened in kiosk mode which was not I expected. I expected to have this URL opened in normal IE browser mode.
I tried the same action, while a web page was opened in kiosk mode and it remained opened, I returned to desktop and opened a URL within a Word document or Excel document. The URL was opened in normal IE browser mode. It appeared that there was
    something special with Outlook.
How can I fix this problem? While a web page was opened in kiosk mode and it remains opened, I return to desktop and click a URL anywhere no matter in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel or other applications, I want to have this URL opened in normal IE browser
    mode.
    Thank you for your advice!

In getURL you had a method parameter _self, look URLRequest
definition in Flash help to see if it receives a similar parameter.
_self is for link to open in same browser window, _blank is used
    for a new window.

  • Need to set to kiosk mode/(auto play)

In a simple DVDSP project, please tell me how to set a movie to just start playing when the user puts the disc into their Win/or Mac computer - and hopefully, in an average set top player as well. I looked through the manual and it refers to kiosk mode and first play, and says it can be done - but I couldn't figure it out...If anyone could walk me through it, that would be a lifesaver! I'm in DVDSP3.
It's just a single movie file, about 5 mins. that I'd like to start playing when inserted...no menu or "play movie" buttons to click on are required.
    many thanks!
Any help appreciated - I find the DVDSP manual complicated, and am still a beginner.
    Dual 1.25 GHz PM/G4   Mac OS X (10.3.8)

I suggest that you use Search in DVD SP's Help to find "First Play". This will tell you how to set a Track to First Play (so that it will play immediately the DVD is inserted).
My DVD SP (version 3) begins:
"To assign the First Play element in the Outline tab, do one of the following:
Control-click the disc element, then choose the First Play element from the shortcut
menu’s First Play submenu. This method ....."
In fact, on my system, a simple click on the background of the DVD SP window that appears at top left of the screen, (with its Graphical Tab active) will reveal the Disc Inspector at the right of the screen and you can set the First Play field to the Track that you want to be First Played.
(Then, if you want, you could select that Track, again in the top left window, so that its Inspector opens on the right of your screen. At the top is a field called "End Jump". Set this to the name of that track, so that it will start playing again when it reaches the end.)
What I don't know is how the user can interrupt the First Play Track so that he/she can get to the main menu so that he can access the rest of the DVD. Perhaps someone else can help here. I would like to know.

  • Exit Kiosk Mode (IE) with AS2

    Hello All,
I am trying to create a button that will close Kiosk Mode (IE), but havent been able to find an example any place. I have tried using the fscommand function but do not get any results, and i think this is because when i launch kiosk mode i am launching the swf instead of the htm file. any suggestions would be great.
    thanks in advance!

Answered my own question, i just needed to create a batch file that shuts down kiosk mode and call it with fscommand. But, i had to put my complete http:// path in for it to work, so fscommand(exec", "file.bat"); wouldnt work, so i had to do a fscommand("exec", "http://urlpath.com/file.bat") for it to work. Anyway, I hope this is helpful.

  • Removing kiosk mode?

I put Firefox into kiosk mode and I don't know how to get it out of kiosk mode. I haven't found any information regarding this here. Can someone explain it?
    Thanks

    Does pressing the F11 key help ? <br />
You may need to press an Fn key in addition, if you have one.
You can also try to move the mouse pointer to the top of the window to make the Navigation toolbar appear and open the right-click context menu. You should see an "Exit Full Screen Mode" item in that menu.

  • Kiosk Mode no low battery notification?

I was in Kiosk Mode and got no low battery notification. Just spent 20 min wondering why the hell my computer turned off on me, since I thought I had enough juice.
Am I alone? If not, wth?

The warning is supposed to appear when the battery is down to about 5%.
You could try resetting the NVRAM. But there is no way to test if that solves the problem unless you are willing to run the battery down again.
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
    Release the keys.

  • Kiosk Mode in 4.2 on RHEL5: "No profile for user 'utku1' found" ?

    Hello,
After upgrading from SRSS 4.1 to 4.2 EA2 on RHEL5 I experience that all attempts of Kiosk sessions to start fail with an error "No profile for user 'utku1' found" being logged in /var/opt/SUNWkio/home/utku1/.xsession-errors, and also displayed in a popup on desktop.
I have disabled the Kiosk mode, then deleted all Kiosk accounts with ./utconfig -k, and re-created them. Then I have verified that the users exist in /etc/passwd, and that their login directories exist with the correct permissions (they are created by utconfig).
Still, after a reboot of the SunRay server the error persists. Also, I have noticed that the home directories of utku? users disappear once a thin client has attempted to login unsuccessfully using such a Kiosk user.
Searching in the relevant forums and googling did not hit me with a clue-stick so far. Is this a problem related to SRSS itself, or actually a problem the configuration GTK desktop?
    Thank you for any hint.
    Rolf

I had the same problem a few minutes ago.
My configuration is a Sun Ray server running on RHEL 5.4, configured in Kiosk mode and forwarding connections to a Windows 2003 terminal server.
In the Web admin gui->Logs tab I noticed the following messages:

Notice the message about the libcrypto
In RHEL 5.4 there is libcrypto.so.0.9.8e
I created a symbolic link like this:
    n -s /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8e /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 and I performed a cold restart on the sun ray.
Connections to the Windows server work now.
On the other hand if i wish to allow connections to the Linux server itself, then I unconfigure the kiosk policy.
    I hope this helps.

My iMac suddenly no longer connects to wifi network when in KIOSK (username) mode, and only connects when as ADMINISTRATOR mode. Its strange because the iMac has been working fine in KIOSK mode for over a year until 2 days ago.

One of the memory cards was indeed faulty, and the other completely fine
Thanks very much for all your help!
Although there is one little thing that I've noticed. The iMac works properly, but I tried to software update to see if that may help my Minecraft sound issue (as I still don't think only having 2GB instead of 4GB would cause such a problem) but the software update application won't work. Running the "Software Update" from the apple menu on the toolbar gains no response, nothing happens. If I run the software update from  system preferences, the application icon appears for a second, then disappears (as in the blank app. icon, the blank canvas with the pencil, pen and ruler in the bottom right corner). It does this every time I try to run it. It did work when the computer was crashing, but this started when on one of the occasions I ran the app. while it was crashing. Since this occured during the crashes, and still occurs now, I'm wondering did something simlar happen minecraft, as it's sound disappeared during the crashes and is still gone now.
However, the computer is now working again without crashes, which is the main thing, thanks for helping me fix the issue
Edit: I would mark the topic as solved, but I'm unsure if this would lock the topic or something simlar, so I'd rather leave it open for any ideas regarding the software update and Minecraft issues I'm having

  • I want to set up firefox in kiosk mode, but I need to have the Back (and Forward) button and the Home button available.

The computer will be used only for online catalog access in my library. I need to remove the location toolbar, but keep the back buttons and home button. If I use Kiosk mode, I don't have the back buttons. I can set it up so that I have the buttons but not the URL, but a user could right click on the menu bar and re-enable the location bar. I need to prevent them from doing that.
    Thanks!

Users can always bring up a location bar with the Ctrl+L shortcut if that bar is hidden.
A possibility is to hide toolbar items and (context) menu items with code in userChrome.css below the default @namespace line.

  • IE and "kiosk mode"

I'm trying to deploy my Forms60 application on the Web using Netscape in "kiosk mode" (i.e. disabling the toolbar, address and links).
I need to do same with IE: particularly I need to prevent the user from re-enabling the toolbar und using the "bak" button.
Any help would be greatly appreciate.
    Thanks in advence.

    Hi,
Based on my research,it seems that we  cannot display two different pages using IE on two screens at a time.
Maybe we can try to use 3rd party applications.

  • WEC7 and Kiosk Mode - performance

    Hi everyone
Does anyone know the benefits regarding memory and performance from running in Kiosk Mode compared to Windows Shell on WEC7?
Is there much to be gained?
    Regards
    Terry

Performance is not the reason to run Kiosk mode.  Not running the shell will free up a little RAM and burn a few less CPU cycles, but that is minor.
    Run in Kiosk mode because:
You don't want the desktop to show, ever
You don't want users to accidentally get to the desktop
You don't want users to maliciously get to the desktop
You want to be fully in control of the user experience
