I think this is a KDE3-app
when I run it i get:
There was an error setting up inter-process communication for KDE. The message returned by the server was: Could not read network connection list. /home/studio/.DCOPserver_myhost__0 Please check that the "dcopserver" program is running!
than i can't even select a folder:
Malformed URL
file:///

Ksensors isn't compatible with KDE4, too
isn't there a way to mark KDE3-packages so that one can see those before installing?

[SOLVED] Cinnamon - network settings kind of broken

Hey,
after the last huge update -everything went fine- my network setting seem to be broken, although I'm online. When clicking "Network" in Cinnamon's system systems or right clicking on the NetworkManager applet and selecting "Network Settings" an additional popup appears saying:
The system network services are not compatible with this version.
I can simply close it and then look at my network setting, but the interface doesn't show up anymore.
I have no clue how to fix this, here are some information:

As already mentioned, my internet connection works fine, it's just not configurable through cinnamon anymore. Is anyone experiencing similar behaviour?

yup seems to be a version issue. There is some version check in cinnamon-control-center

Although I can still edit network connections. Clicking on the network Manager applet has to options at the bottom "Network Setting" (doesn't work) and "Network Connections" which shows another dialog to edit connections this one works. It might that it comes with the network-manager-applet package. If so this might be a workaround until the version check in the control center gets fixed upstream.
Another solution would be to apply the patch proposed in the thread I linked but I didn't try that.

Ipod kind of broken!

i have an ipod touch 5th generation which i got given for chrstmas and now its broken and the screen is constanly turing white and while this is happening it dosent let me switch it off does anyone know why this situation might be occouring it would be really helpfull to know why?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Kind of broken communication between Organizer and Editor PSE 9

Hi,
Today I when I opened my PSE 9 Organizer to select and edit some photots uploaded yesterday, when I selecrt3ed the photos and clicked Fix>Full Photo Edit menu, the Editor opened fine, BUT no photo appeared on the Editor as always. This is the first time this happens and I have been working for more than a year with PSE9 without any problems.
Now, in order to edit the selected photos on the organizer, once the Editor opens (showing no photo) i have to open the Editor´s Project Bin at the bottom and then select "show files selected in the organizer" and there they are, but this didn´t happened before.

Maybe I did not explain myself very well, but what I have been doing for a long time, was selecting one ...or several pictures for editing from within the organizer, and after the Editor opened, there was always a picture on the body of the Editor, ready to be edited, but NOT so anymore since today in the morning. It is not a big deal, because as I explained on my first post, now I have to look for the pictures in the Editor´s project bin and select the one I like to edit, but it is odd that this just happened today after almost two years of being working the other way.
Is there some way to repair the installation of PSE9?

Uhoh! I have kind of broken up the boot process

Ok - from the top...
1) Have Nitdroid on an 8GB SD card. Worked fine.
2) Decided to try and give MeeGo a look. Formatted card and wrote the image to the card.
3) Installed UBoot, as would be needed to get into Meego.
4) Meego didn't load,
5) Decided to reformat card and install NitDroid back on to it.
6) U boot has been uninstalled (I believe), but the boot up still loads it (shows Tux Penguin) and scrolls lots of linux text, and then hangs...
EDIT = 7) Phone boots into Maemo if SD Card is not in the phone, but does still list all the text beforehand.
Any ideas what I can do to just get back to a simple bootup choice of Maemo or Nitdroid?
I could flash the phone, but even then, I am not sure if this will resolve it, and then I will have to re-install all the apps afterwards.

EDIT - Sod it! Have re-flashed the phone, and will just have to watch what is installed from the restore, and untick all things I don't want back on it...

After Lion and iWork-update: all fonts are kind of broken

After updating everything: Really had some issues with iTunes and iWork not starting anymore, and didn't update anymore, too.
Worked that out by downloading it directly from Apple's download-website. Everything seemd fine.
But now: every iWork-files seem to be corrupted. All text is unreadable, fonts/characters are chaotic. EVERY iWork file is unsuable!!!!
Strange thing: everything worked out fine with my other Mac.
Any idea? This is a desaster!

After deleting all caches everything works fine again (⌥ ⌘ P R while booting, waiting for second or even thinrd "beep").
The problem only occured on my MBP, not on my iMac. As my MBP became unsualy very hot, too, my guess is: The MBP ha to less time for re-indexing afte the installation of Lion (I almost immediately started working again). Over night there is no heating-up issue anymore. Seems the caches-clearing and enough re-indexing time did it.

App Works With 1.3.1 but Broken With 1.4.1

Hi everyone,
I developed an application with 1.3.1. Everthing was fine, until I upgraded to 1.4.1. Now some of my swing components show a grey background (instead of the assigned, blue color) and the text on those components has gaps in it (kinda like broken text).
I have re-compiled the app with 1.4.1, and it has been deployed for everyone's use and it works fine on everyone else's computer (they all have 1.3.1), but it is still broken on my computer.
Any ideas?

Look at the compatibility statements for all Java releases following the 1.3.1 version you're using, up to and including the 1.4.1 version you're using. Obviously one of the changes affected your code - there is no guarantee of compatibility with older code.

Macbook Pro 2011 clamshell mode broken by latest software update?

After installing the latest MacBook Pro software update and EFI update through Software Update in the evening May 4, I am unable to enter clamshell mode any more. It used to work before. After waking up in the clamshell mode, the machine promptly goes back to sleep. On subsequent attempts to wake up the system, the laptop itself appears to wake up (at least the sleep light stops blinking) but the display does not even wake up. I can still work with external dsisplay with the lid open but this is highly annoying. I have reset the PRAM with no effect. The machine is a 2011 MBP, 15" inch, 2.2 GHz quad i7. Keyboard and mouse are wireless Microsoft desktop but the problem is also present with wired peripherals.
Does anyone else see this problem after installing the latest patch?

Okay, I'll add my frustration here as well.
I've had this problem too, and more noticable since the 1.4 update.
I posted a thread similar to this here.
But I'll just copy over what my main problem was...
Whenever I plug my computer into my Cinema Display (with the computer closed) it won't wake up fully. The status light will come on, any external hard drives will spin up, but the display won't turn on and the computer will go back to sleep.
I have to restart the computer manually to get it to work normally, and if I disconnect it while it's between the sleep and wake mode and try to open it, the backlight will come on but the screen will remain black, causing me to have to force restart it.
This is in addition to my first problem with the backlit keyboard not coming on automatically after sleep, which was temporarily fixed by resetting the SMC, but it goes back to the problem after a week or so.
What could be causing either of these problems? Could it have something to do with BootCamp since I have it installed, or is there a defect?
I would bring it back to Apple, but there's a small dent in the front right corner, and I'm afraid they would deny any problem I have.
I took my MacBook Pro (2011, i7 2.2, 17") into the Apple Store on Monday, and after about an hour of attempting to replicate the problem with a different monitor, there was only one time where there was any sort of problem.
The employee told me to see if there will be a fix, or otherwise they will replace the logic board for me.
One thing I'd like to add as a note...
It seems that the problem is more prominent when I have my computer with everything on it as usual. As in, before I took it to the Apple Store I performed a clean install of OS X, and that may be related to how bad the problem is, any opinions?
I had attempted at reinstalling OS X from a Time Machine Backup, but the problems continued shortly after completetion. In addition to this, I clean installed OS X, and manually reloaded my applications and media, hoping that the problem had stemmed from some kind of broken file system that could be repaired by a new install.
But no matter how I do it, the problem comes back despite the method. It is really something I want fixed, as I pretty much only use it in clamshell mode when home...

My thumbnail is blank and shows a broken document

I'm using PE 7.0 and something strange has begun to occur lately (I didn't have that problem in the past).
I'm trying to resize an image by selecting Image/Resize/Image size and I enter 800 X 600 pixels. Then I do Save as... by giving a new name and choosing the JPG format with a Quality 7 (medium) in the JPG Options. Then I close the image in the Editor and move to the Organizer to find that my new thumbnail is there but it is blank (not showing my photo) with a little picture in the center representing a kind of broken document. And when I click on that new blank thumbnail with the right button of my mouse and try to open it in the Editor, I get an error message saying someting like the file is incorrect.
Did someone ever have this kind of problem? I need advice and help please...

I was resizing images and was adding a period in the name without realizing that would cause me problems... I really did not understand what was going wrong. I couldn't imagine it was something that simple that I was doing wrong. You made my day, thank you so much dj_paige!

Cannot change media kind in iTunes 11

Just upgraded to iTunes 11, and it seems the ability to change the media kind is broken. Specifically, I want to change some Music files into Podcast files. Normally, I would do this by going Get Info > Options > Media Kind = Podcast.
Anybody else having the same problem?

Sorry – I didn't mean to suggest that my solution was a good solution, just that it might be a temporary fix for some of you until Apple fixes the bug (if indeed they consider it a bug).
skirsman: I'm not sure why you say ID3 Editor needs to be compiled. Go to http://www.pa-software.com/downloads.php and look for the download options under ID3 Editor. However, you're right about it being trial software. For me this wasn't a problem, because I'm not looking for a long-term solution, and I was able to change the metadata for 140 MP3s. If you're interested in this approach, it'd be worth searching for other apps that do this – ID3 Editor was simply the first thing I found, and its trial period was sufficient for my needs. I believe it's also possible to write AppleScripts or Python code (or whatever) to do this automatically, and I might attempt something like that if this problem sticks around.
7smcb: Sorry I didn't give more detailed instructions. Here are instructions for the Mac version (Windows version is probably similar):
Run ID3 Editor.
It will ask you to open a file. Choose the MP3 you want to modify.
Go to the Podcast tab (see screenshot).
Enable the "podcast tag" by checking the box (see screenshot).
Give an identifier, feed location (optional), and description (optional). See info further below.
Click Update.
Import the file into iTunes.
As far as I can tell, you don't need to give both an identifier and a feed (just one is sufficient), but I gave both. I also added a description as well, but this seems to be optional. If you leave all the fields blank iTunes will not accept the file as a podcast.
If you want to do this with a whole bunch of files at once, go to File > Open Group in ID3 Editor, which allows you to modify the metadata for many files at once.
As far as I know, the identifier should be set to something unique for each file, so that iTunes can treat it as a separate episode or whatever. I didn't experiment with giving loads of files the same identifier – not sure what iTunes will do in this case.
The location should point to the RSS feed where new episodes can be downloaded. For many of you, you won't need to bother setting this.

Iphone 4 since upgrade to ios 5.1.1 no longer works with made for itunes, iphone devices.

Ever since I upgraded to IOS 5.1.1 my Iphone no longer works for playing music thorugh my Apline car unit, My Logic 3 clock radio, and a Next made for ipod device.
I can sync through ITunes on the PC and can also play videos through the HDMI adapter.   My wifes iphone 4s and the kids hand me down iphone 3s still play fine through these made for Itunes , Ipod , Iphone devices.
I want to downgrade back to the prior IOS I had before Apple encouraged me to install this bugged one.   How do I go about getting a legit non jailbroken prior IOS version installed on my Iphone?
Is Apple aware of this issue , as I have seen blogs about this it is affecting other people?   Will this issue be resolved with ios 6?
Can I get the beta ?

Agreed. Same thing here. Just bought a late model Alpine INE-S920Hd and it is all kinds of broken. I think this is happening because Apple shifted the music and video. Totally buggy. Bluetooth refuses to work properly, too. A2dp keeps stealing the audio from Pandora in the Alpine interface. The ipod controls dont work at all.

Cinema Display 30" problem

I have a 30 inch Cinema Display from 2006-ish. I have not used it for a while and when i powered it up again a few days ago it was kind of broken.
There is no image from my Mac, only these vertical lines (check the photos). The lines change a bit if I move a window around and using a different Mac does not help.

The screen itself appears to be intact. Does anyone know of anything I can try to get it fixed? Or replace a part or two?

If you're not yet sorted - I had similar prob with my then 1 year-old iMac - AppleCare swore blind it wasn't a hardware problem and told me to wipe my hard drive and re-install EVERYTHING...!
Fortunately, I didn't believe them, and hunted thru various forums...and identified that, as I thought, it WAS a hardware prob - and the next AppleCare guy acknowledged it and sorted the repair, finally!
The heat sensor was from a bad batch (that it turned out Apple knew about and could have identified immediately by the serial number, so could have saved me days of frustration and wasted time) and it was erroneously turning the Mac off as what it perceived was a safety thing. Hope that helps...

I am trying to use old style figures in Page '14 I guess, the latest version. Do I need to use a specific font? Where should I look.

You will probably find that the typography panel in Pages 5 is kind of broken, you need to close it and reopen for each new font, and I think small caps and various other things do not work yet.

Voice recognition no longer works in my 2013 Chevy Traverse since updating to 6.1.4 on my iPhone 5. Any ideas for me?

Solidworks model mating issue in 3D Picture control

I have been following example of LQR and linear inverted pendulum ...where we can import Solidworks model in Labview and have our own control.....
I made SCARA and I am being able to access individual part ...however I still have some mating issues with individual part....
Please have a look at VI I have attached and see how Arm1, Arm2 and ZArm doesnot follow Parent Child relationship.
As I have leaned andgot help from forums.....I will get it this time too ....

Is there a way I can focus and zoom in zoom out particular portion of the scene, I can do it along Z axis but it will zoom whole scene. I guess Camera Control setting but not getting how to do it.

1. When I RUN a vi, change camera (spherical) position and STOP a vi,
next time I run my vi scene display shows last Camera position, Is there
a way that for every new RUN of a program Scene Display erases old
image and starts over again. Looks like re initializing Camera Position.
2. Scene in Continuous loop and Camera Controller >> Spherical. Scene
display gives kind of broken and flashy display while changing camera
position using mouse.
3. If I translate any object and again translate-rotate to change center
of rotation, isn't it Total translation and then rotation.
4. When I plan to show stretch/compress from one end, it will be again translating object half a distance similar to Pivot ???
Is there any easy way to find Translation you apply to move your center
of rotation, I waste lot of time when I import someone's vrml model, its
lot easy if I make my own using 3D geometries at least I know half a
distance to move.
Also see another method I am trying in which I have all 3
objects imported as a separate vrml and I called via one vrml. I tried
different translate-rotate combination but nothings working out
