KM TREX & TAXONOMIES

Hi All,
What is the recommendation of using KM in a large number of documents (really large) for many user. This question comes around thanks to some comments of KM final users.
The main concern of KM Users is to navigate trough many folders to finally upload a document. Is there a way that given some users data the upload works itself and put the document in a special folder and maybe assign custom properties to documents. Of course do all this inside the standard or maybe some develops but minimal. Please any suggestion would be appreciated.
Another question, can I create Taxonomies from different CM repositories.

You can create KM Navigation iViews to navigation through repositories and change its style. You can change and add commands. See the following link to see how it's working:

I don't think that this is possible. Taxonomies are created in an Index. And there is assigned one Repository.

hey,
     I have successfully installed TREX 6.1 and would like to set up Search, Classification, Taxonomies on Enterprise Portal and set up indexes on TREX.
     How do i do this? Is there any documentation detailing step-by-step procedure to achieve this?
     Would appreciate pointers to any info related to this. Thanks in advance.

TREX search KM BI Repository

TREx 7.1
Portal 7.0
I have created and been using a KM BI Repository. This repository contains txt documents that are currently being accessed thru a KM Document IVIEW. I have recently implmented TREX 7.1 and I am having trouble finding anything in my repository using the search UI.
I have added indexes and taxonomies that point to the data source /bi_documents.
The search UI is available but finds nothing.
The TREX search can find Portal Documents.
I have also added to the Index Management Service the "Repository Manager" that is for my BI Repository.
Component Monitor is good and all green
TREX Monitor good.
My searchs still return nothing from my KM BI Repository.
I have researched and followed numerous documentation on repositories.
Any help or configuration document on KM BI Repositories would be appreciated.

I am using the standar crawler and it appears that the indexes are not being built due to a crawler error.

Cannot train an example based taxonomy in trex

Hi friends,
I have created an index in index administration.And attached a data source also.Then i create a new example based taxonomy and also i create folders for categories.Then in content management i go to taxonomy trainner.There is no choice of upload of document through which i can train the taxonomy.Is there a way through which i can upload the documents in the categories i have created.Also the training documents should be in what format(doc,ppt).Also if somebody have a document for Example based and query based taxonomy creation please send the link.
I am having EP6 sp15 and trex 6.1.

In example or query based taxonomy you have to upload the doccuments in the KM repository that is the data source whic is a folder in KM repository framework right click and then use upload the docs into it and in taxonomy you only create categories and manually train the taxonomy using query builder or trainer in Classification inbox .I will suggest you to go through the guides available in SERVICE market place service.sap.com and use HOW-To search term and then navigate to TREX to find the guides.Docs can be any format.
You can use an existing hierarchy in your CM to train your new taxonomy.
You can train a taxonomy automatically if you already have a folder hierarchy that you want to transport to a taxonomy.
Create the taxonomy in index management. This determines that you are going to train the taxonomy using an existing folder hierarchy. The system carries out the following steps:
It copies the specified folder and its entire subordinate folder hierarchy to a taxonomy structure. This creates a category for each folder.
The system then carries out the initial training of the taxonomy.
All documents in the folder hierarchy are also indexed. You can decide whether the folder that you are using to train the taxonomy is to be assigned to the index.
You train the taxonomies initially by classifying documents from your folder hierarchy.
This initial training is necessary so that the system can carry out automatic classification, or can make suggestions when manual classification takes place.
For the initial training, you classify documents from the folders in your knowledge management system. You do this is the iView in which you navigate within the folder hierarchy.
The necessary number of documents depends on the quality of the documents

   Does TREX support natural language searches? you search using synonym. And other feature is that you can classify documents using taxonomies. There are two kind of taxonomies: query based and example based.

Trex "synonym search" and taxonomy "search from here" issues

Hi Trex experts
I have two minor issues regarding Trex and Taxonomies
Taxonomy
I have created a Taxonomy and need to add the search from here function so its possible to create a more specific search from within one are of the taxonomy.
When I add a layout set where this command is enabled then its not shown.
I guess that its my repository manager for the Trex repository that I need to add a service to, but I cant figure out which one, or is this feature not possible for taxonomies?

Is it possible to define synonym search entries? Like I need to create a dependency on a bunch of terms, like when a user for example search for vacation then search for holiday should be included automatically in the search result as well. Is there some kind of configuration file where I can add a list of dependencies?

Related to synomym you should read this material:
"How to Enable Semantic Search or Search for Synonyms in TREX"
Related to taxonomy, the answer is yes it is possible.
If "search from here" botton is not shown, is due to you don't create an index (search option).

Hello Deb,
There is no user interface or supported method to transport indexes from one portal system to another, this feature does not exist. You can export/import indexes directly on TREX using the python scripts however this will not be reflected in the application(portal).
There may however be a workaround you could try, but I wouldn't recommend doing it on a productive system in case of any problems.
In the portal all index configuration is stored in the KM Configuration, it stores all information about existing indexes. So on your QA(destination portal):
1. Navigate to System Administration -> System Configuration -> Knowledge Management -> Content Management.
2. From the Action menu, export the whole KM Configuration using the Export function.
3. Backup this config archive file, in case something goes wrong.
4. Open a copy of this file for editing, and navigate to Install -> data -> cm -> services -> indexes. You can see there the currently existing indexes, configured in KM. You can add a new one here.
5. There are two sub folders there:- "index_folders" - The configuration for the data sources attached to the index is stored here - "taxonomies" - the configuration for the taxonomies attached to the index is stored here. You can add the needed configuration here, according to the newly added index.
6. Save the config archive file, import it in the portal, and restart the portal.
If for any reason this doesn't work then you can restore the config backup you created at the start.

Hi,
When you create an Index with an option TREX Search and Classificaition, then one more tab will appear called Taxonomies(Which classifies and filters the search).
If any index is having taxonomies then you create the same index in target system.
Export the taxonomy in the source system index and import the taxonomies in the target system index.

Removing Trex from EP installation

Hi,
I want to remove Trex from an existing installation of EP5 SP6.
a) How do I do this (what configuration changes should I make)?
b) What remaining problems will the users see (for example if it leaves the "search" box in the header the users will obviously have a problem if they try and use it)?

Hi Stuart,
although EP5 is "long ago" and I am more aware of EP6 these days, you should procede roughly like this:
a)
- First, you should delete all indices and taxonomies through the Index Administration UI.
- Second, you should delete the TREX Server address from the files config.properties and/or configlocal.properties in your EP-KM installation (search for them on the file system of the server!)
- Third, you can uninstall TREX for which you should be able to use the OS's (Windows?) Add/Remove functionality
- Fourth, if a TREX directory remains on the server, delete that.
b)
- Do not use any KM iViews that contain search fields
- And, sorry, I do not know exactly where, configure your portal header to NOT contain the quick search field any longer. If you cannot find that, please post that part of the question again in the EP forum.

TREX Migration

Is it possible to export the taxonomy configuration from an EP60 SP2 system and import it into a NW04 SP14 system.
We did not migrate TREX using the tools. We decided to rebuild the indexes on the target NW platform after all the content was migrated. It takes us about 2 hours to manually rebuild the taxonomy's in this scenario.
I was wondering if there was a way to get the taxonomy configuration from the EP6 system and load it into the NW04 system to avoid this 2 hours of rebuild time???
(Besides, I don' think the migration tools migrated the taxonomy configuration anyways)

Hi Stephen,
taxonomy "configuration" data are migrated by the KMC migration tool. Matter of fact, there is no explicitly visible taxonomy migration as taxonomies are built on top of lower level KMC functionality. As such, any details related to taxonomies are for example stored in persistencies of the KMC configuration framework and the KMC applicaton property service; and all those "things" are covered by the KMC migration tool.
Nonetheless, the indexes need to be rebuilt anyway even when using the migration tools, basically because of the different TREX releases used with 6.20 and 6.40.
So even if there was a way to isolate and export just taxonomy related KMC data that would save the time to rebuild the indexes behind the taxonomies.

How to configure one TREX host with multiple index servers ?

Hi All,
Does anyone know how to configure TREX on the one host,
with multiple index servers ?
Reason for this is to make better use of resources available on the host server(4 Gig, 4 Processor, Windows2003), to improve the search performance of
our KM content for portal users.
I am using TREX 7 and have not been able to do this,
despite reading the Single and Distributed install
documentation.
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Andres,
To make use of the RAM a Server provides you have to run two indexserver processes (each can then consume 2 GB);
Proceed like this:
1. Go to TREXdeamon.ini; check if section [indexserver2] is there (it is already provided, but not active in standard installation)
2. In TREXdeamon.ini go to
[daemon]
references sections below
programs=nameserver,preprocessor1,indexserver1,queueserver,alertserver
and add indexserver2 here. Restart TREX; second porcess is then started; can be checked in TREX monitor in Portal as well
3. To distribute existing indexes to the new process, start TREXadmintool and go to Index: Landscape
Go to the last two columns and move the indexes (move master here/secondary mouse click)
If you don't distribute the indexes the new index server process will be regarded when an new index is created.

Problem indexing with TREX

Hi guys,
We have some problems with our TREX system. This´s our environment:
- SAP Netweaver 7 - SP17 (SUN Solaris)
- SAP TREX 7 (Windows 2003 server)
- IIS 6 with SSO to File Server (SSO22Kerbmap configured)
The problem is that When indexing process is started, we detected that a lot of documents had preprocessing errors. We have in TREX log the following info for each file error:

- index_service user have super administrator rol in our system.
- We have some errors in windows log about sso22kerbmap library. The text is 'Application failure: w3wp.exe, version:6.0.3790.3959, module: SSO22KerbMap.dll,version 1.1.0.8 ...'

Did you also create an Active Directory User for the user index_service ?

How to configure trex name server

hi all
while creating index i am getting the error
Index could not be created; creating index failed: TREX Name Server (including back-up servers) is down or not accessable. (Errorcode 7217)
for the above error i need to configure the trex name server using TREX Configuration in the J2EE Engine in j2ee visual administrator .
can any one tell me the clear path that where to configure the above and where j2ee visual administrator installed how to configure the name server

Hi Ganesh,
In order to access the Visual Administrator, go to Start > Programs > SAP J2EE Engine > Visual Administrator. After you login, you will see 2 nodes i.e. Dispatcher and Server. Expand the Server node. Then go to "Services" and expand it. Then go all the way down to "TREX Service". Then on the right hand side, go to the property "nameserver.address" where you will key in "tcpip://<nameserver>:<port>". Then hit "Update" and click on the "Save" button. Then when you go to TRex Monitor, you should be able to see the Name Server running. Hope this helps.
