KM3M-V & DDR400 RAM

Hi!
I just bought a package which included the KM3M-V board and 512MB of PC3200 DDR400 RAM. Manual indicates it only takes highest spec of PC2700 DDR333.
Forgive a stupid question, but will the RAM work OK but the board won't take full advantage of the higher spec? Or would it damage the board if I installed it?  Just need to know whether to return the memory and ask for PC2700 replacement.
Thanks, Dave.

Many thanks for the replies. Just needed to know that I wouldn't damage the motherboard.
Thanks again, Dave.

Okay i have a msi 865pe neo2-ls board and since the day i got it  if i try and run in anything but super slow heh slow for bios setting  which also seems to clock my 400 ram down to 333, the system freezes fails to post etc.. So I flashed from 1.3 to 1.52b and its running as it always has except it found some ide controllers In xp now but the issue is now this,  why whenever my ram is clocked to 400 does the board crap out? I have tried 2.6 volt 2.8 volt for ddr voltage But no matter what i do no go I am Using 4x 512 samsung ddr400 for a total of 2 gigs ram Any Suggestions? Going Insane,

    Here's a little byte . . .
And even with its memory divider idiosyncrasies, it's currently the best out there. Regardless, it's becoming crazy-making to re-set the BIOS by literally having to "pull the plug", remove affected (or infected) memory, and re-set the BIOS by replacing newer DDR with older DDR memory (I've been using a 256MB stick of OCZ GolD3700, I'll explain why this works). It's been quite a long time since I recall being so frustrated with PC-hardware. This article details the anomalies I've experienced among three motherboards, and several of the latest memory's designed for the Canterwood/Springdale chipsets . . .

After removing the old RAM and installing only one or both the new RAM modules, in any combination of
the RAM slots, the PC doesn't boot, but 3 short beeps are heard, which indicate a RAM error.
According to the "DDR400 Memory Modules Qualified Vender List" in this site, this kind of RAM module
is OK for KT6Delta mobo, and I exclude that both the modules are damaged.
Re-installing the old DDR333 PC2700 RAM the PC boots and works as usual....
What can I do? Is there any incompatibility or should I change anything in the BIOS settings?

  • DDR400 RAM won´t run at 200MHz?

What can this be? First off my specs:
    - A64 Venice 3200+ (cooled by ZalmanCNPS7000AlCu, all temps ok)
    - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum (BIOS v1.8 )
    - 2x 1024MB DDR400 OCZ Performance
With some overclocking guides I got these max values:
    - HTT Max: 300
    - CPU Max: 250
    - RAM Max: 215
    My settings:
    - 10x235
    - HTT x3
    - VCore 1,475v+5.0%
    - RAM-Teiler 166 (=195MHz @ 2350MHz)
    - Timings 3,3,3,8,1T
    - VDimm 2,6v
    - disabled: Spread, Q&C, Aggressive Timings
Normally I would set everything to 240/200 or 250/207 with a RAM divider of 166. But this won´t work! Somehow I not even get 200MHz with this divider. I reach the CPU´s Max at a 100 divider, and I reach 215 with a 200 divider. But 166 makes me nuts. Is it a bug?
I hope someone can help me, or show me a link, where this has been already discussed. Sorry, if it has been discussed before, this is my first visit here

Good benchmark. Seems as if I can forget 4x 512. I wonder if I have more chances with the ASUS A8V Deluxe and my 2x 1024MB if there´s really a bug in MSI´s BIOS. It can´t be that my RAM runs up to 199MHz and then locks up everything...
Yes, I got an ASUS A8V Deluxe rev2, myself and I will make some tests with that MoBo / Venice / 4x512, in the days to come.
However, their latest beta biosversions 1014.006 are horrible regarding voltagecontrol ( extrem overvolting ) and mem.dividers logic.
The 1011 with venice support seems ok except for the 1T/2T control ( same result no matter what enabled / disabled / auto-setting).
I would most of all, see a new good written venice-bios version for the MSI Neo2 MoBo.
By the way did try higher RAM Voltage, like 2.7 -2.8v ?
Does not hurt running memtest86 as well.

  • A Simple Question - Can i use CL3 DDR400 RAM with 848P?

I've posted earlier but no-one had come back to me and if memory is to blame i need to get this replaced first thing in the morning asap as this is critical.
Can i use PC3200 DDR400 CL3 memory in an MSI 848P or not?
I'm using an Intel P4 2.2Ghz 533 CPU if that counts?.... so the memory is only running at 333Mhz...
I'm trying to use 2 x 512MB PC3200 DDR400 CL3 and i'm getting nothing but problems such as my PC refusing to boot up or reboot properly and also the following messages :-
'DRAM TIMING IS TOO TIGHTLY SO RELOAD TIMING'
I havn't set any timing - what does this mean??????
In the BIOS section 'DRAM TIMING SETTING' There is only a CAS Latency option for 2 or 2.5 - no option for 3?
Does all of this mean that CL3 type DDR can't be used or is in-compatible with the 848P?
If so, there was no mention of this in the product spec or anything relating to this on the MSI website.
Please can somebody, anybody tell me?

Just as I've replied in your other thread, you've to start playing with the timings instead of the SPD timings...

  • OC Settings for Athlon XP2800+, Geil DDR400 Rams, & K7N2 Delta2 Plat

Hi All, I like to achieve 200Mhz FSB with this setup. I would appreciate your opinions/suggestions to help me further achieve this goal. Furthermore, which of these software should i rely on when monitoring my voltages and temp: CoreCenter, CPU-Z, or H/W monitoring of the BIOS?
At present, I am only able to attain 173:FSB (thru BIOS) with the following settings:
    DOT: sergeant
    Vcore: 1.725v
    Mem: 2.70v
    AGP: 1.5v (stock)
    AGP freq: 66

Not all Athlon XP processors are capable of attaining a 200fsb.  I used to have a 2800+ and it was the worst Athlon XP that I have ever tried to overclock.  It crashed at 183fsb no matter what I tried.
For your situation, disable DOT.  It can cause instability.  Use the bios to adjust the fsb.  It may require resetting the cmos a few times but you will have better results in trying to overclock.
I use CPU-Z to monitor my voltages and Speedfan for the temps.  They have worked well for me.  Remember, they are only software based readouts and are not 100% accurate just like Core Center.

    re: foxofinfinety
When my iMac G4 1.25 17" USB 2.0 computer was under
AppleCare, and in for a service issue regarding a shipping
damaged chrome display arm, the company (compUSA)
at my request upgraded the internal RAM to 512MB and
that part was on sale. Later on, after it was discovered
the inCompUSA had appeared to have sold me a bad RAM
chip, and they no longer stocked that brand, my iMac was
in pieces in their shop. I live 100+ miles away, so my option
was to have them keep the computer and hope to get a
new piece of the same RAM under that RAM company's
warranty (maybe two months waiting) or buy another RAM.
    {and the original Apple 256MB chip was 200 miles r/t away.}
They had Centurion branded PC3200-DDR400 in 184-pin
RAM and that was said to be Apple certified; and it was
backwards compatible with the PC-2700-DDR333 spec in
the factory slot. Not a problem since then, 4 years ago.
Unfortunately, inCompUSA messed up the logic board while
the computer was under AppleCare and then was unable
or unwilling to troubleshoot and repair it. I did the trouble-
shooting and drove it in to inCompUSA, repeatedly over
a period of six months and about 6,000 miles, in my vehicle.
But the RAM was not the issue, ultimately. And I did get a
degree of satisfaction finally when I talked about the matter
direct with Apple support and they agreed to not have the
inComp people re-troubleshoot the computer, and instead
of me driving another thousands of miles fruitlessly to leave
the computer a week or two, for them to see if it would act
up as it did when I used it at home, the inCompUSA techs
were directed to replace the logic board with one Apple sent.
And that made three logic boards befuddled by inCompUSA.
The PC3200-DDR400 RAM should work in place of the
    PC2700-DDR333 184-pin RAM, if the PC3200-DDR400
is of the same voltage and other specifications needed
by the eMac to work correctly. While, iMac G4 USB2.0
    I have uses the same 184-pin (one) in the factory slot;
however it varies in the fact a second RAM chip in this
different unit is a 200-pin low-heat chip such as the last
iBook G4 mid-2005 would use as an upgrade chip.
And according to Mactracker database, among others
the aftermarket and later day RAM specs for the eMac
and iMac G4 USB2.0 computers show 2 GB total now.
So, for the cost of a padded envelope or small box with
bubblewrap and stiff cardboards inside, plus international
first class postage, the offer to get two PC3200 chips is
a good one. Or go to a PC shop with a printout of the
RAM specs for the PC2700-DDR333 RAM, and get some
such as one of the PC brands would have used; since
the only real issue may be in the speed or voltage and
a few details written in the specifications on the correct
RAM. And I mean information other than the large print.
This link should state the correct other RAM specs if
you can't find them in other known sources, including
the fact 2 - 1024MB chips are supported. They offer
the PC2700-DR333 chips, of 167MHz speed for eMac
and iMac G4 USB 2.0 (iMac second chip is a SODIMM.)

I am having a HUGE problems with memory settings in the BIOS.
On AUTO, the memory is only autodected at DDR200, which I found odd.
I them took memory setting in my old hands and things don't seem much
    better:
    I made these changes:
    MEMCLOCK: DDR400
    BANK INTERVEAVING: AUTO
    BURST LENGTH: 8 BEAT
    CL: 2
    TRCD: 3
    TRAS: 5
    TRP: 2
This was unstable at first and  bumped the DDR Voltage to 2.7, moved
the sticks to DIMM1 and DIMM3 (instead of DIMM2), and it seems stable,
but not very fast. according to Sandra Scores
Any recommendations for Memory Settings?   Why would the MB not
autodecte DDR400 RAM?  I am not looking to overlock...just maximize
the CPU and memory I have.
Maybe I just need to get new memory.  What is the best memory for this motherboard?
    Thanks,
    Steve

I'm running the same mem (see my sig).  Since its PC3500 I attempted to tighten the settings to those you had listed (2,3,2,5).  It was not Prime95 torture test stable at even the stock 200 MHz FSB using these settings.  Upping the voltage to 2.7 did not increase the stability in my system at these settings.  The memory ran perfectly at AUTO settings, but was clocked at 2.5,3,3,8 I believe.
Keep in mind that level 1 is advertised at 2,3,3.  My system is 100% stable at 2.7V for me up to 210 MHz FSB at these settings (I haven't tried any faster).  My TRAS is set to 6.
Hope this helps a fellow Mushkin user

  • Underclocking DDR400 to allow 3 sticks

From what I understand, the MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R doesn't support 3 sticks of DDR400 RAM.  I'm currently running 2 sticks at DDR400 speeds, and it's fine, but I have an additional stick that I originally purchased with the motherboard, and I want to bring into play (taking my total memory to 1.5GB).
For this to work, I'm assuming that I have to underclock the DDR400 memory to run as DDR333.  I've read that the BIOS should do this automatically, but when I leave the settings to auto (even with only two sticks), the setting shows DDR200, so I think I'll need to use manual settings.
My memory is Samsung K4H560838E-TCCC.  According to their docs, the CL-tRCD-tRP timings 3-3-3, and I was bumping the tRCD up to 4 (according to the AMD recommendations, due to the fast internal memory controller of the AMD64).  The max burst is 8.  I had the final BIOS clock setting (can't recall the name right now) at "Auto", because I could not find a comparable setting in the Samsung docs.  (If you can tell me what that should be, I would appreciate it.)  All seems to work fine with 2 sticks = 1MB.
If I up this to 3 sticks = 1.5GB, I'm afraid that the automatic BIOS settings will still come out to DDR200, which means that I have to underclock this manually.  If so, what settings should I use?  Is it sufficient to change only the DDR400 setting to DDR333, and leave everything else the same?  Or should I use the timing settings from the Samsung docs, as if I were running true DDR333?  The settings vary, however, depending on the exact model number, so I'm not sure which ones I would pick.
I can't afford to be running with an unstable machine, so I can't just try a bunch of settings, dreading a system lock with each one.  At the same time, though, I don't want to be overly conservative in my estimates, and rob myself of needed processing speed.
Then again, perhaps I should be considering whether the machine will be faster with 1GB of DDR400 or 1.5GB or DDR333.  I want to use more for a ram disk, etc., which will have some impact on speed.  The extra memory will make setting this up simpler.  Then again, I'm not usually running so many programs that I would "run out" of memory with 1GB.  Even when I use Photoshop Elements, I can open a couple dozen pictures before it starts to bog down.
I appreciate any guidance that you can give me.
    -=> Mike Hanson

    unless you encounter stability problems.
The bios should read the spd information on the memory and set the correct settings for you memory.  Now unfortunately this doesn't work for everyone, hence the manual settings option.
More aggressive settings can give slightly better performance in benchmarks but probably no real world gains and could sacrifice some degree of stability.
If with auto settings you experience stability problems then you would wanto go with less aggresive settings (higher numbers)  for instance I run auto (2,3,2,6)  with out problems.  But if I did have stability problems then it is recomended that I run at (2,4,2,6)
Explanation of (x,x,x,x) in order as listed:
    CAS # Latency = 2 clocks
    RAS # to CAS # Delay = 3 clocks
    RAS # Precharge = 2 clocks
Cycle Time (Tras) = 6 clocks
The lower the settings the more aggressive, the higher, the more conservative (more stable).
One more thing, I would not overclock if stability is #1 on your priority list.
However for us hardcore gamers, and speed freaks, it is fun to play with.  I have had stability problems overclocking with this setup and am running stock.

  • KT4V with DDR400

Has anyone managed to get a KT4V to work with the AMD XP2600 (FSB 333) and a single stick of 512MB DDR400 RAM? On my PC the memory is reported as only 333MHz with the auto setting. If I change the settings manually to 400MHz then it becomes unstable.

  • Link For Ram Compatibility

    Hey all,
Just wondering if anyone knows the link to the webpage that shows the rams with speeds greater than PC3200 that are compatible with MSI Neo2 FISH2R.
    Thanks in advance.

what better way to know compatibility than to ask the people here who have tested it in their system?
i was going to make a new topic, but this seems fitting; short of reading everyone's signature, it'd be nice if people post:
    ram brand/model (chipset)
    speed (example PC3200 or DDR400)
    ram spd (ex 2.5-4-4-8)
    current ram timing (ex 2-3-3-6)
    current fsb speed (ex 215)
current ddr speed (ex auto or 1:1)
rated ram voltage (ex 2.6v) (aka manufacturer's value / can be read using speedfan in [Info] tab / DIMM info / "Levels")
    current ram voltage (ex 2.7v)
performance mode (ex slow, fast, etc)
    pat enabled/disabled ? (use memtest86+ or cpu-z)
passed Windows Memory Diagnostic (WMD) ?
    passed MemTest86+ ?
    passed over-nite stress/torture test? (use prime95, etc)
"current" could also mean max value tested to be ok.
    i'll start:
    generic samsung (purchased at buyaib.com)
    PC3200 (sold as PC3500 )
    spd: 2.5-3-3-8
current ram timing: 2.5-3-3-8 (anything less = )
current fsb speed: 216 (anything higher = ram error)
    current ddr speed: auto
    rated ram voltage: 2.5v
    current ram voltage: 2.6v
    performance mode: fast
    pat: enabled
    passed memtest86+.
failed WDM. (i can't get this thing to pass any test on my MB. i even tried kingston value ram at 3-4-4-8)
    passed over-nite stress test.

  • Ram question for K8N Neo2 Platinum

Hi all. I have the above mentioned motherboard in my system, with 2 x 512mb of DDR400 ram installed. I want to upgrade to 2gb at some stage in the near future, and was wondering if I can throw another two sticks of 512 in, or will I have to get 2 x 1gb sticks?
    Cheers.

4x512MB stick works, however not guaranteed to run att full speed DDR400 ( depending on what CPU model / RAM controller - winchester/Venice/Opteron etc.). In general the later cpu models handles 4 sticks better then the older.
If not the CPU onboard RAM controller is up for the task, the RAM will run at 333mhz speed and give some worse performance compared to DR400 1T setting, however you will still enjoy the 2GB performance compared to 1GB 1T setting, when using application that use that much RAM.
Best would be 2x1024 sticks, to be sure about getting DDR400 speed 1T setting, but it could be worth trying adding another two 512MB of same model, because of the lower cost and set DDR400 ( 200mhz) manual in bios and increase RAM+CPU voltage some.
( Syar´s Easybios 1C3 is a good and stable biosversion that sets RAM voltage to 2.75v and some other RAM settings as good levels as default.)
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=59711.0
Some time ago, I did run 4x512 stick at DDR400 2T speed with a Winchester and Venice cpu, but suffered from less OC potential, compared with 2 sticks.
With my new opteron cpu, I can have a good OC with same 4 sticks of RAM, so for me it´s clearly a big differance between the "desktop" and "server" cpu models, and how they handle RAM.

  • HIGH DENSITY RAM

    HI ALL,
I HAVE A K8N NEO PLATINUM BOARD AND AM LOOKING TO INSTALL HIGH DENSITY RAM. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE NFORCE 3 250Gb CHIPSET IS COMPATIBLE, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR ALL ON THIS SUBJECT AND ESPECIALLY PEOPLE WHO USE HIGH DENSITY RAM. THE RAM IS THE SAME AS YOU SEE ON EBAY(1GB MODULE).
THANKS TO ALL WHO CAN LEND A HELPING HAND.

ok, there is no such thing as a high density RAM. i really think that the seller put up that high density crap to lure the customers. what you have there is regular PC3200(DDR400) RAM. any type of DDR-RAM will work with your mobo, as long as it's DDR.
DDR2 or SDR or RD-RAM does not work on your mobo. so just make sure you won't buy one of those.
i strongly suggest to avoid e-bay, and go to a reseller or a computer store to buy the memory.
