KM4M-V

I have tried hard, upgraded the BIOS to 1.4.
Still, one thing looks slightly strange to me:
In the manual and online, it says 8 USB2.0
Actually, the panel USB plugs seem to make only USB1.1 here. I plugged another connector to the front and there I get 2.0 without problems.
Similar with AGP: It stated 8x; but in the BIOS I can only see 1x/2x/4x. Yes, it is the KM400; it has 2 SATA plugs and runs happily otherwise on 166/333.
Any explanation or mistake on my side ?

Not all USB hardware is USB 2.0 capable.  Many of the USB connectors on the older or cheaper computer cases are USB 1.1 capable.  This is something to look for very closely before buying any computer case.
True. But read my post carefully: The manual and online and else the board is sold as 8x2.0.
The *onboard-USB* on the naked board identifies itself as 1.1. Since I need 2.0 for USB-harddisk I bought an external connector, for the front panel, and that is the one that makes 2.0.
My question therefore was on the reason of the USB 1.1 for the onboard connectors: BIOS, my mistake, my mistake at the settings, cheat ?

    PS2 K/b
    And now the problem . . .
Windows XP (Home/Professional) as well as Server 2003 hang on install and, once installed, has issues with random lockups.  Windows 98se installs and runs fine.  Typical lockups are as follows:
    - full lockup
    - mouse fails to function
Tests done thus far: mem86 ver. 3.2 - reports no memory errors.
Next tests will be with sysoft sandra to check cpu and such.
Any suggestions on the problem here?
    Many thanks in advance,

    Hi!
    Tough Christmas nut to crack.
    Two ideas though:
If 98 is running fine then you would have a FAT32 on your hard disk. For the XP install to run smoothly it would like a NTFS file system. XP can arrange that, but then you would loose all data on the disk. But if you back up first you would be alright with this formatting process.
Ages ago, but I wont forget it, someone did not get a successful install until he, in BIOS or in Device Manager, got rid of the DMA setting for the CD device.
Try both above if you like, ore one at a time. Good luck!

  • KM4M-V and Installing Windows XP SP2 on WD 80GB SATA

    Here is my situation...
My wifes computer had been having problems. Her older Asus Mainboard had some capacitor corrosion and we had ordered an MSI KM4M-V a while back, but we'd never used it. At the same time we decided we'd upgrade her hard drive. So, I have a brand new KM4M-V and Western Digital Caviar 80GB 7200RPM 8MB. I treated it like a new build using her old case and video card. Nothing wrong with them.
Upon boot, POST goes nicely, recognizes her AMD XP 2000+, I hit F6 when prompted and it continues to set up fine. It asks for the disk supplying the driver for the 3rd Party Driver for SATA. Fine, pick the proper ATA driver from the disk. Next step, asks me to hit F8 to agree to windows terms. Bingo. Done. Then select hard drive to install Windows XP on...
Wait, it says Unknown Disk, and There is no disk installed. Hit C and it says something like you can't install on this drive unless it is an I64 or X86 system... Ummm it lost me. isn't this where its supposed to say create a partition? x amount of space out of x amount available? I can get it to call that up with a bit of monkeying with the up arrow and C or D (create or delete partitions) but mostly it likes to Bluescreen.
Long and short, I can't get it to format this brand new SATA WD Drive, nor install WinXP. I have her older IDE HDD which apparently is fine because we noted her Capacitors on the old mainboard were corroding. I hate use the old drive, 40GB Western Digital 5400RPM (was also a Refurb as the computer was my mothers in the first place - hard drive crashed, RMA'd to WD about 5 years ago came back refurb been using it ever since). Now that we've identified the Asus board as on its last leg, swapped mainboards out with this one that sat new in box for a couple years, put in the brand spankin' new 80GB SATA and having so much of a problem with it thought maybe someone here could give me some insight.
Please, if you can help me figure this out, I thank you in advance.

Ok. I've set a jumper between Pins 5-6, still same problem. Not detecting the SATA drive. Bluescreen Error information following.
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.
Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS Memory Options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select advanced startup options, and then select safe mode.

    *** setupdd.sys - Address F77C0C13 base at F7794000, DateStamp 41107c8f
<end error message> Hope that helps because simply putting a jumper on the HDD hasn't made it detect. I can say that the SATA Hard Drive does not detect on POST. The screen after POST that I am used to seeing, "raid utility", from my Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe is not there. I do believe I will check the other setting now. I was hoping that just the jumper would have fixed the issue. Trying the suggestion made after yours.
******** EDIT Please note I am editing this post after rechecking the computers BIOS ********
YES! I get the option to TAB into the VIA Tech VT8237 SATA RAID BIOS Ver 4.50
It shows the hard drive there and there is a RED Flashing Warning that says:
    NOTICE:
The number of disks is not adequate to create a RAID!!!
Since I am not seeking to create a RAID array, this should work. I'm going to give it one more pass through in an attempt to install windows. I do believe now I don't need the driver from the disk?
******** 2nd EDIT again editing after trying an install ********
Still same exact Bluescreen and Error Code
    Any thoughts?

  • How to disable onboard video on KM4M-L?

Does anybody know how to disable the onboard video card of the KM4M-L?  I tried just plugging in another AGP card, but it doesn't work.  I've gone through the bios, but can't find any reference to the onbard video.
Another question I have is which card is faster, the onboard video or my old Viper V770 with 32MBs of ram (I know, it's ancient!)
Thanks in advance for your help.

The viper but not by much. The o/b AGP is disabled automaticly but your problem is your board only supports AGPx4/1.5v cards.
Have a read through this thread (it's a P4 board but the same applies).

  • Request for proper BIOS settings for MSI "KM4M-V" VIA KM400

    Hello,
I tried to search on this problem but with no success. I have a computer that I had to reset the bios and I'm trying to get the clock speed adjusted to the processor chip. Here is my setup:
    MB = MSI "KM4M-V" VIA KM400 (MS-7061)
    CPU = AMD ATHLON XP 3000 "Barton" 333 FSB  OPN - AXDA3000DKV4D
Here is my problem, when I boot up the cpu shows the clock speed of 1.733 GHZ with default BIOS settings.(it shows this speed in windows when booted up also) When I try to go into the BIOS and change any of the speed settings under Advance Chipset Features, the cpu will reboot and loose video until I reset the BIOS with the jumper.
I was wondering if someone had a setup like this and could give me info on what settings are the RIGHT ones to get the AMD XP 3000 up to speed?   ;-)
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Upon installation I loaded all drivers from the MSI disc.
This is what happened after the drivers were loaded-
The system posts, runs through the splash screen and the screen goes black.
If I go into the device manager, remove the VIA/S3G Unichrome graphics display adapter, reboot the PC will boot up, discover the PCI-compatiblr graphics display, etc and proceeds to the message directing me to restart to finish setting up my hardware.
Upon reboot the screen, ends up black again.
My best two guesses are something wrong in the BIOS or bad board, and I have checked the BIOS over as best I can.

  • KM4M-V 7061 updated bios for wxvga lcd support

the last bios available at msi site is v1.4, no wide screen support for the vga bios (VIA S3 Unichrome IGP). anyone here can help?

:-) hope i m the lucky one. few office system upgraded from crt to 17" wide screen lcd. not really worth to get any agp card (now days also difficult to find cheap entry agp card, mostly pci-e). second, any external display actually cost more than buying a new motherboard with onboard display (i mean entry model, km4m-v also cheap board).

  • [VIA] KM4M-V: When powered on, Power LED not lit

Hi, I have a problem with my KM4M-V... I bought this mainboard after my previous mainboard couldn't work, but after buying, it doesn't solve the problem. When I switched on my PC, my HDD LED is lit, but my Power LED is not. I changed a new Power Supply but it doesn't work too. Can anyone tell me what is the problem? Thank you!

Suggest you press button above then Forum Profile Information and create a signature like mine; it will saves us a lot of time and effort.  It will take you a few minutes but advice will be more specific and productive.  Notice information we need for psu, both of those you have tried.
Did your old motherboard ever work or did it just die on you without warning?  If both boards display same symptoms than your problem most likely rests with one( or more) other components.
For troubleshooting take motherboard out of case and barebone it, i.e cpu/hs, vga, 1 stick of memory; you can jumper power switch pins with screwdriver to fire it up.  Simply a case of replacing components until culprit is found.

Computer is POSTing ... I think (I can hear the beep and the keyboard lights up.)
I have tried all configurations and know all other components to be FINE.  (i.e. monitor, PSU, and RAM are WORKING)
I have reset the CMOS jumper.  I have RTFM.
Problem exists between user and solution.  Is it my MB and has anyone else had this problem?  I think this is a defective MB.  This is my last ditch effort before I RMA it.
    Thanks!

thanks for the suggestions, gents. (even though one was insulting)
I mean.. the CPU comment I can understand a mistake but, the RAM comment?!  We all know that RAM will run at a lower speed than its rating in accordance with the MB.
I already have an Nforce2 system.  This system is SFF.  The link you provided is ATX.
PSU is Antec Smart Power 350W.  This PSU works in other systems.
Yeah, I had both power plugs connected. (4pin and ATX)
I am going to replace the CPU with a 266Mhz FSB and see is that helps.

  • I've a problem with a KM4M-L temp

    good nights.
my MSI Motherboard (MS-6734), have installed a Athlon XP 2400+, but the fan turns too slow, 3250 rpm. I belive that temp it's too high 58°C in idle mode, when full stress cpu usage then cpu stop.
I´ve a pc-chips M825 too, and the temp it's 47°C at full cpu usage, i belive that's difference temp it's by noise reduction function of my MSI Motherboard.
someone, know if it's true, and if it's true, how i can disable this function. i know that fan cooler can turn at > 5500 rpm
    thx

i had the same problem with an Athlon XP 2600+ on the KM4M-L, after reseating the processor with some quality thermal paste, the temperatr dropped from 70ish degrees under load to 45ish, it made the biggest difference of anything i have tried.  I use a Coolermaster low speed fan at 2500rpm, with a fairly large heatsink, so a faster fan should have even better results if it has similar air displacment.

  • Installing Windows XP sp2 on SATA - KM4M-V

    Hi,
Hope some one can help me:
    My Set Up:
    MSI KM4M-v
Amd Atholon XP 2800+ 333mhz FSB
    1.5 gb Memory (Matrix PC3200) [1 x 1gb and 1 x 512mb]
    200gb Matrox DiamondMax +10 (SATA150/7200/8M)
    80gb Ibm Desktar IDE
    NEC DVD-RW Drive IDE
    Samsung DVD DRIVE IDE
    First off,
The CPU only comes up as 2200+ ???
    Second
When I boot It will only show the first DVD Drive in the chain if I unplug it, the other shows ok. Any Ideas?
    Thirdly
My IDE Already has Windows XP and boots ok and will see the SATA drive so I know its working (I ran LIve Update 3 to ensure the bios was upto date)
So when I try to install windows xp SP2 (Slip Streamed CD) on to the sata drive (Unplugged the IDE HDD) I prerss f6 and use the Floopy that comes with it. When its ready during loading it asks what driver to use - 2003 / XP / 2000 / NT 4
So Select WINXP and it then goes to Windows Starting up and then says it can't find any mass storage. Press f3 to quit.
Tried updating the drivers on the floppy and that doesn't work
    Any Ideas guys.
Hope I have included enough info.
    TIA
    Kev

    Guys,
OK Worked out my first problem I was using a Windows XP sp2 CD Created with nLite, and I think it had the raid drivers removed and thus wouldn't see the SATA Drive, well using a normal XP SP1 CD Its sees it.
    So thats sorted
    Cheers For your Help,
Ok Not to the NExt Problem.
    IDE Drives,
I have a new ROund IDE Cable withteh Long part + Blue Connector in the MoBo and the Other two (Closer together) in the Drives
With one on the end is connected to a SAMSUN DVD-ROM Set as Primary and the Middle IDE Connecter Connected to NEC DVD-R and set to slave,
When botted up together only Samsung is shown as Secondary Master, unplug samsung's power reboot shows NEC as Secondary Slave.
Tried with two new rounded cables and the one I was using before I upgraded (AS I used the same drives before with another MoBo in that order and worked) And Still doesn't work with this MoBo.
    Any more ideas guys?
Also how do i get the board to reconise my Athlon XP 2800+ as 2800+ rather then 2200+? If its jumper settings could you point me in the direction where I can change the jumpers?
    TIA
And Once Again thanks for all ya help

  • Conecting 2nd monitor to mainboard integrated vga port on km4m

hello there, i got another monitor from my sister's old computer and want to get it working at the same time with my FIRST PRICIPAL MONIITOR, i got a Nvidia FX5200-T128 , that is where my first and principal monitor is connected ..... i use a KM4M-L mainboard, it has an integrated vga port, and i was wondering if i could plug my second monitor on there, andi did , but the system does not recognize it, i searched or an BIOS option like to enable that vga port , but was unable to find it... searched through all the mainboard's "users guide" but nothings talks about the integrated vga port. ..... i use 512 ddr for ram
i hope im giving all the information you need to help, if im not please let me know and i will be glad to .... any help here will be apreciated... as always

Unfortunatly, the onboard VGA port auto-disables when an AGP card is used. This leaves two choices for multi-monitor support. An AGP card with dual output, or adding a PCI card for the second output. Does your FX5200 have twin output? Many have 1 VGA and 1 DVI, which can be used simultaniously for dual monitors.
Ironicly, using a PCI video card, instead of an AGP, will usually allow the onboard to also be used.

I just formatted my PC yesterday, installing Win XP SP2. But the intergrated LAN card and USB is not detected in device manager. I tried HELP but cannot solve the problem.
I am a little confused. After formatting and installing Windows, the hardwares who don't have driver will be having a question mark icon in the device manager. But for my computer, no USB or LAN card is written in the device manager. How can that be?
I had checked my BIOS and nothing indicated to change the USB or the LAN card.
Where did i go wrong? I am using a MSI KM4M-V motherboard.

  • Km4m-v issues. Won't install XP or boot into it.

I have KM4M-v with Sempron 2200+, 40gb hdd, 512mb ram.    Problem is, since installing the board the pc will not boot into xp.  t gets to welcome screen then shuts down.   It will go into and stay in safe mode hapilly, but  won't boot into xp normally.   I thought it was the build, so I tried to reinstall.  It gets the the point where setup is about to go through process of asking about partitions after loading all the files, machine then shuts down.   COuld this be a simple issue of heat transfer paste, or is it something else?   I didn't use new stuff when I installed a new processor (managed to blow last one up - hence new mobo and processor!)  Any help would be great!!

"Problem is, since installing the board " Was the mobo the last thing you installed, along with the Sempron? Changing mobo is a major change, and you do need a Windows repair install. This is very well done in SafeMode.
In many cases, a reactivation is needed when making this kind of upgrade, but time will tell.
