Kmail sasl issue

When trying to send an email, I get
Failed to transport message. An error occurred during authentication: SASL(-4): no mechanism available: No worthy mechs found
and the other person just receives a blank email or no email. I have installed libsasl, gsasl, cyrus-sasl-sql, cyrus-sasl-ldap, cyrus-sasl-gssapi, and cyrus-sasl

Hope this helps someone in the future...
I was able to successfully bind to RedHat Directory Server using a cert off a PKCS11 token today. I found 2 problems and fixing one or the other would probably take care of it.
I turned on debugging output and was following the SSL handshake between the server and my application. I noticed for PKCS11 keystore it only showed 1 cert in the chain but for PKCS12 keystore it showed the full chain of 3 certificates. Later in the handshake the server gives the client a list of trusted CA's which on my server was the top-most root. Because the PKCS12 token was able to chain the user cert back up to that root it knew to present the user certificate to the server and could connect successfully. The PKCS11 token was missing the intermediate CA and so effectively didn't realize that the one cert on the card was usable and never offered it to the CA. Some of this was getting masked by the fact that we had "allow client authentication" instead of "require client authentication" on the ldap server. Before it was only "working" because when we did a PKCS11 login it fell back to just plain old SSL and because of the way I had the ACI's set up on the server (very open) we thought it was still working fine.
So in short....I fixed the issue by adding the intermediate CA as an explicitly trusted CA on the server.
Good luck.

  • Kmail status on kde[mod]4?

    Hi fellow kde arch users.  I've been avoiding upgrading to kde 4 primarily because of kmail's issues handling disconnected IMAP (random crashes, losing mail due to crashes or other wicked randomness).  There are many unsolved, open bug reports in kde mailing lists about this.   I've noticed both in chakra and kde lists that there is "only one developer" handling kmail patches and fixes on his "spare time" as noted in a couple of threads @ chakra and the kde lists, so I'm still hesitant to upgrade.
    So now that kde 4.3 is here, and 4.4 soon to come, how is the status?   What have your experiences been?  Is anyone using kmail exclusively with dIMAP or have multiple dIMAP accounts (preferably large ones with 100s or 1000s of messages)? how is the stability?
    I love how kde 4 is coming along, but I am afraid I may have to wait until 4.4 or even 4.5 before making the move, as kmail in 3.5 is nearly flawless (for what it does).

    Hi, i use kde since 4.1 and i am pretty happy with kmail.

    have you ahd any performance issues, random crashes, etc?  not necessarily only with kmail, but kde overall?

  • Kmail, kgpg, pinentry-qt and localization issues

    Someone uses Kmail with KGPG and receives mail in another language than English?
    I'm having a little issue with pinentry, its quite ugly as its using GTK or some other toolkit instead of QT, and its also not displaying correctly some of the (Spanish) special characters.
    Also some mails that include special characters in the subject are showed as "blocks"
    Here are a couple of screenshots displaying the problem:
    1) pinentry
    [URL=http://img134.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pinentryuglybronkencharnp4.jpg][/URL]
    My name should read:
    Leonardo Andrés Gallego
    2) special characters in subjects
    [URL=http://img91.imageshack.us/my.php?image=subjectbronkencharswu6.jpg][/URL]
    And the subject should read:
    Notificación ....
    Its really weird, as the special characters in the body of the messages are working just fine. And not all the messages have this problem.

    for pinentry-qt remove /usr/bin/pinentry (no panic, it's just a symbolic link to pinentry-gtk), and make a new symbolic link to pinentry-qt (ln -s pinentry-qt pinentry)
    can't help you with the other problem though

  • [KDE 4.10] Kontact/Kalender/KMail issue

    Hello together!
    I have recently updated to KDE 4.10, which looks very good. Unfortunately, the above mentioned parts of KDE have stoped to work. I use Kontact for organising my mails, calender and RSS-feeds. The RSS programm (akregator) still works after the update,
    yet Kalender and KMail do not work anymore. Kalender does not find any files, while Kmail still shows the the correct E-Mail accounts and files, but cannot fetch data from the servers. Due to this setup, I think either something is wrong with the SQL or
    akonadi, but I do not know where to look especially for the problem.
    Here is what KMail says when started seperately:
    QDBusConnection: session D-Bus connection created before QCoreApplication. Application may misbehave.
    If no one has a easy solution, can you at least tell me how I can downgrade to KDE 4.9 again without manually tip in every package name?
    Thanks in advance,
    hermi

    Okay, the solution in the thread did not work for me.
    When I start akonadi, I get the following messages:

  • Are there any known issues concerning using DIGEST-MD5 SASL authentication with iPlanet Directory Server 5.0 on Windows NT 4.0?

    I am developing support for the DIGEST-MD5 sasl mechnism on a c-ldap client. I am using the evaluation version of the iPlanet Directory Server 5.0 which lists DIGEST-MD5 as a supported SASL mechanism. The server is running on NT 4.0 After installing the Directory Server with the test database, a changed the passwordStorageScheme from the default of SSHA to clear text. I then added my test user. When I run my test I always get back a resultCode of 49 (invalidCredentials). The digest-challenge I receive from the server and my digest-response are shown below. I have satisfied myself that the calculation of the response directive in the digest response is correct. Does anyone see any problems in the digest response or have any other suggestions? Is there a known problem with the iPlanet Directory Server 5.0?
    digest-challenge:
    realm="BGB2.ndp.provo.novell.com",nonce="Ed8UPLXsWaC6CN",qop="auth",algorithm=md5-sess,charset=utf-8
    digest-response:
    username="uid=bgbrown,ou=people,dc=siroe,dc=com",realm="BGB2.ndp.provo.novell.com",cnonce="A9IuPJKr30RiwL",nc=00000001,qop=auth,digest-uri="ldap/BGB2.ndp.provo.novell.com",response=97061205298e5ebaf206c8ac3598fdce,charset=utf-8,nonce="Ed8UPLXsWaC6CN"

    Found the answer. When the username is an LDAP DN it needs to be proceeded by "dn:".
    example: username="dn:uid=bgbrown,ou=people,dc=siroe,dc=com"
    The server also accepts a simple uid value.
    example: username="bgbrown"

  • [Solved]bogofilter kmail issue

    hey,
    Some months ago bogofilter stopped working in kmail for me and i have no clue why. I installed 64bit on my computer instead of 32bit, reconfigured kmail as usual and set up bogofilter with the kmail antispam wizzard as i did in 32bit. But somehow bogofilter doesn't recognize any mails as spam since then. I deleted all bogofilter config files and databank, then reinstalled bogofilter, started with an empty kmail config folder as well, but that didn't help as well.
    Kmail executes the bogofilter command for learning spam as
    bogofilter -s
    which should be the correct one for teaching the bogofilter what is spam and what isn't.
    Some quick google search didn't help me as well, so any hints on what might be wrong?
    EDIT: config file for bogofilter is just the standard one, haven't changed anything there.
    EDIT: dunno why but posting helped, bogofilter is working again, don't ask me why.

  • ASA 5505 VPN conenction issue

    Good morning everyone. I am in need of some help. I am a newbie when it comes to configuring the ASA. Here is my problem. I have the asa configure and it is allowing me to get out to the internet. I have several VLANs on my network and from inside I can ping everything. I have created the VPN and I am able to connect to it and get in IP assigned from the pool of address. If I have multiple connections I can ping the other PCs. Right now I am able to ping the outside and inside interfaces of the ASA but no where else. I have split tunneling enabled. Here is a copy of my config.
    Thanks

  • Cache Memory Allocator \ Short Term Memory Allocator Issues

    Hi all
    I have a number of identically configured (High School) Servers which are giving me the same memory errors (some more frequently than others) and I've run out of ideas.
    They are all HP Proliant DL360 G6 Servers, NetWare 6.5 sp8 with eDir 8.8 sp5.
    The error messages are :
    "Cache memory allocator out of available memory." followed by "Short term memory allocator is out of memory. xxx attempts to get more memory failed. request size in bytes xxxxxxxx from Module SWEEP.NLM"
    The module referred to is always "SWEEP.NLM" (Sophos Anti-virus). A Server reset solves the problem but it is normally back within a month.
    I've posted below a config.txt and segstats.txt from one of the servers.
    I would be grateful if someone could help me with this as it's now becoming a 'headache'.
    Cheers
    Neil Hughes

    Somewhat. From the time of day, and the loading of commvault modules
    inbetween, this looks like a combined backup / AV scan issue. The
    requests of Sophos are comparably big in size, and they vary a lot. That
    will lead to fragmentation of your memory, until the memory can't be
    allocated in one chunk any more. It also *seems* as if Sophos actually
    scans the data while it gets backed up. That is *bad*.

  • How to edit wrong autocompletion in kmail / akonadi ?

    I have a few typos and old addresses which keep popping up as automatic completion each time I'm composing an email with kmail.
    The official kmail FAQ solution has no effect. The problematic addresses seems to be stored in akonadi, as hinted by the "contacts found in your data" header and confirmed by disabling "use recent addresses for autocompletion" in kmail settings does not prevent the "contacts found in your data" from popping up.
    I searched the web but found nothing related to this particular akonadi issue, I went through akonadi settings I know of but I found no way to configure autocompletion and lastly I tried looking directly into akonadi database to see if I could simply remove them manually but I failed to understand the structure and where those addresses are (also I didn't want to mess with this).
    Any idea how to fix this ?

    I asked for help on the kde forums, turns out these are not stored in akonadi but with balooand the solution consist in wiping the whole index. The way to achieve this depends on the kdepim version.
    For version 4.13.4 which is the one I have right now, rename the ~/.local/share/baloo/emailContacts directory and there's no more addresses suggestions from baloo.

  • Facing issues in  Bugzilla 4.2 installalation

    Hi All,
    I have to install Bugzilla 4.2 on Oracle Linux 5.6 64 bit OS.
    I have installed the prerequisites . Such as .
    1.perl-5.16.2.tar.gz
    2.mysql-5.6.3-m6-linux2.6-x86_64.tar.gz
    3.Apache 2.2
    After that I ran ./checksetup.pl --check-modules  to check all perl modules .
    It has shown some missing modules .
    Then I ran /usr/bin/perl install-module.pl --all  to install automatically .
    Most of the modules got installed .But still facing some issues in installing the rest modules.

  • [SOLVED PAR/LY]kde 4.2 -- akonadi configuration + kmail crash problems

    Hey guys,
    Recently i decided to give kde 4.2 a try , (been using gnome for months) and after the update i have these two distinct (i think) problems with kmail.
    When i run kmail  ,  it tries to start akonadi server, which fails due to configuration issues (see below) . After that , when i try to send an email it *always* crashes. Here is the output either of the shell or the popup error dialog:
    1)  akonadi misconfiguration(?)
    From the pop up
    Akonadi Server Self-Test Report

    Make sure the required driver is installed.

    Hey toxygen,
    thanks for the reply. No i am not using kdemod (actually never tried it, maybe i should try it some day) . The thing about turning akonadi off is that it is not that clear to me how to do it properly.
    Looking around at System settings --> advanced --> Akonadi server configuration  , it clearly states that akonadi server is not running (due to bad configuration). I dont see anything like "switch off Akonadi server" either.
    Trying System settings--> advanced --> Kresources , it tries a couple of times to start the Akonadi server (fails ofcourse) , and then i get to the Kresources dialog. But i cant see anything there related to Akonadi, or something like "do not use Akonadi".
    Also  removing the package ignoring the dependencies with
    pacman -Rd akonadi
    has this result on shell
    KWallet::Wallet::openWallet: Pass a valid window to KWallet::Wallet::openWallet().
    kres-migrator: error while loading shared libraries: libakonadiprotocolinternals.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    kmail(23835)/kresources: Akonadi migration failed!
    kmail(23835)/kresources: command was: ("kres-migrator", "--interactive-on-change", "--type", "contact", "--omit-client-bridge")
    kmail(23835)/kresources: exit code: 127
    kmail(23835)/kresources: stdout: ""
    kmail(23835)/kresources: stderr: ""
    So the kde still looks for it(expected). Btw it doesnt seem there to be a way to remove it without the -d option at pacman , since it is required by kdepimlibs , which in turn are required by many other kde packages.So how do you go about switching it off?
    Another strange thing i noticed after googling about the issue is that usually if i get it right, the akonadi configuration files should be located at ~/.config/Akonadi  , so why is it trying to do its stuff at /root/.config/akonadi in my machine ?? Am i somehow causing it to run as root?

  • External Authentication SASL Iphone

    Hi.
    I am trying to persuade everyone to support the EXTERNAL AUTHENTICATION mechanism in SASL. I am building a little mail server that uses EXTERNAL AUTHENTICATION. The point at issue is a secure connection from the client to the server without any tunnelling or vpn in the way.
    The mail server I'm building can be implemented on a Mac, mine though is on a Network Attached Storage device. It makes sense for symmetry's sake that Apple should support it at the other end as well.
    A little tweak of an API here and a little UI change there and you're done. Can Apple can rise to this challenge?
    Kind regards

  • Pop3 sasl AUTH PLAIN not supported over TLS?

    Hi,
    Thunberbird does not work with Mac OS X server 10.5.5 POP3 because SASL AUTH PLAIN method is not supported when TLS or SSL is used.
    According to RFC5034:
    "To ensure interoperability, client and server implementations of this extension MUST implement the PLAIN SASL mechanism [RFC4616] running over TLS [RFC2595]."
    I have looked throught Cyrus documentation but I cannot find a find to enable AUTH PLAIN over TLS.
    Any clue how to make the server RFC compliant?
    Best regards,
    Nicolas.

    Really? Well I'd really like to dig through this. Could you post more info about your setup so that we can compare and check where the problem is on my side?
    My setup: Mac OS X Server 10.5.5 running Cyrus POP3 v2.3.8-OS X Server 10.5. SSL and TLS are enabled but not required. Port 995 is only port open for outside clients.
    Thunberbird version 2.0.0.18 and 3 beta 1 cannot connect to POP over SSL or TLS. The error I get is: 'authentication failure'.
    Non encrypted connection works (Thunberbird will issue a USER/PASS and will not use the AUTH PLAIN method).
    SASL and Kerberos are enabled on the server.
    If I connect with openssl on command line to port 995, then issue a CAPA command here is the result:
    CAPA
    +OK List of capabilities follows
    SASL GSSAPI
    EXPIRE NEVER
    LOGIN-DELAY 0
    TOP
    UIDL
    PIPELINING
    RESP-CODES
    AUTH-RESP-CODE
    USER
    Could you please post the result of the same test?
    ('openssl> s_client -connect 10.1.1.1:995', then type 'CAPA').
    Thanks to help on this,
    Nicolas.

  • How to set the default SASL auth mech

    Does any body know how I can set the default SASL auth mechanism? I can currentlly authenticate to slapd only when requesting manualy CRAM-MD5 and I would very much like to set that as the default. In a non-macosx server environment creating a
    /usr/lib/sasl2/[service_name].conf
    file and putting in
    'mech_list: CRAM-MD5'
    solves the issue, but on macos x server it doesnt really help. I'm not sure if this is the correct file at all.

    Slowfranklin, thanks for your helpful posts.
    My ultimate goal is to have a shared conact list in our OD database. I want to be able to give Joe User a friendly interface to insert update and use this contact list. 2 solutions I found are j2anywhere.com's AddressBookXLDAP and the open source package phpLDAPadmin (far more complicated, but OK). Both won't work on my particular setup and I'm trying to figure out why. You helped me figure out how to authenticate (this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=894046&tstart=0). My guess is, if I use the same settings for ABXLdap thinks will start working. I don't have no way to set the -Y CRAM-MD5 option on the application level, so I'm looking for a way to set it golobally, on the server level.

  • Authentication using userCertificate and SASL External

    hi!
    I try to authenticate using SASL "External" and SSL.
    The SSL connection works fine, also SASL when using "Digest-MD5" but when I try to authenticate using "External" I get connected as anonymous.
    Here is what I did:
    I created a self-signed certificate with owner "uid=xyz,ou=OrgUnit1,ou=OrgUnit2,o=Org".
    My client has this certificate in it's keystore.
    The server has an entry with "dn=uid=xyz,ou=OrgUnit1,ou=OrgUnit2,o=Org" an this entry has the userCertificate attribute, which also contains my self-signed certificate.
    I edited the "certmap.conf" file like this:
    certmap default default
    default:DNComps
    default:FilterComps uid
    default:verifycert on
    As I understood the manual, this means the server should search the directory for an RDN "uid=xyz" and check if the certificate of this user is the same as the one provided by the client. If it is, the client should get the permissions of this entry.
    But in the logfile I always get this message:
    conn=4 fd=1148 slot=1148 SSL connection from 172.16.0.190 to 172.16.0.190
    conn=4 SSL 128-bit RC4
    conn=4 op=0 BIND dn="" method=sasl version=3 mech=EXTERNAL
    conn=4 op=0 RESULT err=0 tag=97 nentries=0 etime=0 dn=""
    conn=4 op=1 SRCH base="uid=xyz,ou=OrgUnit1,ou=OrgUnit2,o=Org" scope=0 filter="(objectClass=*)" attrs="entryid"
    conn=4 op=1 RESULT err=0 tag=101 nentries=1 etime=0
    conn=4 op=2 fd=1148 closed - A1
    So, one possibility is I understood something completly wrong and the other is the server doesn't find the entry "uid=xyz,ou=OrgUnit1,ou=OrgUnit2,o=Org" because of any misconfiguration or I need a user certificate, which has been issued by a CA...
    Can anyone help me?
    Thanks a lot!
    Florian

    Nikolay,
    Assuming you mean authenticaion to your developed application and not the HTML DB facilities, yes you can do that. Take a look at the custom_page_sentry function that appears on this forum in several threads, e.g., Re: NTLM with Cookies ... - is someone there After you change this function to meet your requirements (cookie names, etc.) and compile it in your application's schema, you'd create a new authentication schema and type 'return custom_page_sentry;' into the page sentry function field. Then enter a URL to your site's login page into the Invalid Session URL field. Then make the new authentication scheme the current scheme. Of course, with this solution, you are responsible for making it as secure as you need it to be, preventing cookie forgery/theft, etc.
