Kmix and Klipper crashes and don't start, KDE 4.4 [SOLVED]

I had a trouble with Plasma after adding a "fancy panel" which was placed at the same position as my normal panel. Everytime I tried to remove it, Plasma crshed, so I had to delete a part of a config file. But also the Klipper and Kmix don't start:

Sorry to reply to this old thread - just wanted to add a few comments as I've seen this even 1090 in an Exchange 2013 disaster recovery scenario.
Unfortunately in my case we had a 2 node Exchange 2013 DAG where both nodes had lost their cluster configuration and we had this error on both nodes when trying to start the cluster service. Datacenter Activation Coordination (DAC) mode was enabled on the
database and Stop-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup had been run against both AD sites (warning: please note this command actually clears the clusterconfigurations - it's not just a "stop and do nothing" command). The original filesharewitness (third site)
was unavailable. Restore-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup, Start-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup, net start clussvc /forcequorum (/fq) and lots of other tricks failed.
    Eventually we had to:
    1. Remove database replica from one node
    2. Remove the node from the original DAG
    3. Create a new DAG on the now "clean" node
    4. Mount the database in the new DAG using database portability feature - see:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876926(v=exchg.150).aspx
    This involved:
4a. An ESEUTIL /R E00 command against the old database
4b. Create a new database (used gui)
    4c. Set-MailboxDatabase <DatabaseName> -AllowFileRestore $true against new database
4d. Move E00* and *.edb files from old database to new database directory and rename the edb file to its new name
    4e. Mount-Database
    4f. Get-Mailbox -Database <SourceDatabase> |where {$_.ObjectClass -NotMatch '(SystemAttendantMailbox|ExOleDbSystemMailbox)'}| Set-Mailbox -Database <TargetDatabase>
(at this point the mail service was re-established, Outlook clients started connecting again and queued mail was delivered to mailboxes)
    4g. Get-Mailbox -Database <SourceDatabase> -Arbitration | Set-Mailbox -Database <TargetDatabase> -Arbitration
    5. Remove the remaining remants of the original database and the original DAG from the second node
    6. Join the second node to the new DAG
    7. Re-establish database replication
Note: we used the "cluster node /forcecleanup" command and the -ConfigurationOnly switch for some of the powershell commands a few times for the above procedures to work.
Theoretically I would have thought the Restore-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup command should have given a "clean" cluster node (cluster node /forcecleanup) its cluster configuration based on the DAG configuration stored in Active Directoy but it seems
that's not how it works. Creating a new DAG works though so there must be some underlying commands in the Restore-DatabaseAvailabiltyGroup command that requires the cluster configuration to be at least partly present. Luckily creating a new DAG and using the
database portability feature saved the day for us - definitely something I will remember if I'm ever involved in a similar disaster again.

Beeping noises, sometimes with the power light flashing, indicate "not enough Working RAM Memory to start up".
You need some known-good RAM to make progress.

I just installed ios7 on my iphone and I don't like it.  Can I uninstall it?

Yes, using Boot Camp, the same way you will make it.
Open Boot Camp, print and read the directions, and don't start until you have a current backup.

  • Starting KDE?

I know that there has been a million discussion topics on starting KDE or GNOME but I have edited my .xinitrc file in my home directory to:
    source /sw/bin/init.sh
    /sw/bin/startkde >/tmp/kde.log 2>&1
and it just makes my xdarwin automatically quit. If I try to manualy start kde through the xterm by typing "startkde" it says that there is no such command. I have also tried to edit my .xinitrc file to several other things that people have said to do and nothing works at all. The only way that I can get XDarwin to start and run is by having an .xinitrc file that reads:
    #!/bin/sh
    # $Xorg: xinitrc.cpp,v 1.3 2000/08/17 19:54:30 cpqbld Exp $

I have had trouble trying to get kde for some time now. For a while, I was having trouble compiling kde through fink because fink couldn't connect to any mirrors. I was able to get through the compile process today or at least that is what I think because after compiling for a while, I get a message at the bottom of fink commander saying, "done" but it is not saying "current" in the status column. Does anyone know how I could check to see if I have it? I am very confused right now, I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. On my desktopp running 10.3 I was able to just install kde through fink, edit my .xinitrc file and I was starting kde without a problem. Now when I try and put it on my ibook, first I have trouble finding it through fink, then I have trouble getting dependencies through fink, then I have trouble with the mirrors and now I'm stuck on the .xinitrc file (thats even if I have installed kde properly at all). I have no hair left to pull out anymore! Can someone please help me?
p.s. Bill Scott, I have followed all of the directions on your site, can you tell me what that was?
    --Matt

    Hi Thierry,
I wasn't saying that it doesn't work. I don't use KDE so there are plenty of things I don't know about it. Is it it's own window manager or do you also run a window manager? What do you exec in your ~/.xinitrc?
If that's what's recommended then definitely include the redirection of output to the log. That's why I said "something like ...". I wasn't trying to dictate the form of the startkde part of the line. I was only suggesting that it be "execed". That way, when you logout of KDE, X11 quits, which is why the writers of X11 substituted the execution of the xinitrc script for the main process. You certainly wouldn't want X11 to quit when you exited an xterm.
I apologize for not discussing the flexibility of process. Explaining the need for the "exec" command is a fairly lengthy discourse already and I didn't want to write a book. However, it is still necessary to have an "exec" command at the end of the xinitrc and the reasons I gave for what to "exec" are still valid. You could certainly exec a window manager instead of KDE but I would think that you'd want KDE to have control over whether X11 is running.
Of course the situation is more flexible with Mac OS X because there are other ways of stopping X11, like with the menu. On other flavors of UNIX, when you logout of KDE, you probably want to logout of the computer altogether. The command I provided is essentially what is used on Red Hat Linux if Gnome isn't installed so I didn't just make it up. Anyway, I hope the explanation of how the xinitrc works benefits some.

  • KDE never finish to start after pacman -Syu [SOLVED]

    Hi to All.
I have upgraded my system with pacman -Syu (I have to upgrade first broadcom-wl).
after upgrading to new kernel, I reinstalled pacman and nvidia and nvidia-utils
started kde and it begins to start session, but 4 processs get full cpu and never ends the session init
the processes are kbuildsyscoca (2 processes), kded4 and kconf_update
If I start twm instead of kde it works
I readed the forums and althoug not seen something similar, decide to downgrade kernel, and recompile (reinstall broadcom-wl, and nvidia drivers)
then tested again and the same results.
last test was to move my .kde and .kde4 folders to a backup and start kde again (starting from startx and not kdm)
this time it launched a lot (more than 100 kconf_update trying to update some stuff of kopete)
then deinstalled kopete and all kde-meta packages that are not needed now, but still have the same problem,
the 4 processes keep running and the desktop never comes up. (black screen with cursor I can move)
    anyone with similar sympthoms?
    any thing I can try?
as a summary x seems to work fine (twm starts)
    wireless works fine
    nvidia works fine
only kde get stuck ant the init
    any help appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi.
I will post here by parts as the post is too long
test with other user in my system and with root all fails with the same sympthoms
I attach here the logs of the following test done with another user (charo)
    steps.
    /etc/rc.d/kdm stop
    rm /var/log/kdm.log
    rm /var/log/xorg.o.mslog
    rm /home/charo/.xsession-errors
    rm -r /home/charo/.kde
    rm -r /home/charo/.kde4
    rm -r /tmp/kde-charo
    rm -r /tmp/ksocket-charo
    rm -r /var/tmp/kdecache-charo
so If I not forhet none, all stuff regarding kde for user charo is non existant
    then started kdm
    /etc/rc.d/kdm start
then login with user charo in a standard kde4 session
the splash screen comes up and only the 2 fisrt icons come up (between the first and the second almost 2 minutes passes), then the screen goes blue (default background), and a powerdevil error is shown, we can move the mouse,  and clicking in the error it dissapear, but eh screen keeps blue without any data (icons, applets, panels, etc), no element is shown
    here are the logs

    Try this:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • MacBook Pro crashed and won't start up!!! HELP!

I had a couple programs running (nothing out of the ordinary) and I opened Photobooth and then the screen turned black, but the little green light on the top of the laptop indicating that the camera is on was lit. I pushed a few buttons but the screen remained black so I figured I had a small crash (my very first one too).
I held the power button until the laptop shut off and I tried starting it back up, however the screen stays black and nothing seems to get it to work! I know the power is on since a light turns on when the laptop is on. Its the little light on the button you push to open your closed laptop (sorry I don't know what it's called).
I tried shutting the laptop on and off, removing the battery, letting it sit for 10 minutes... NOTHING'S WORKING.
    Is my laptop dead??? Help!

I am guessing that you connected to your iMac while in target mode. If you could not pull the data off that way, and you can't repair the drive, it seems as if you have limited options.
You could run the hardware check on your system disk. If the HD is fried, you can send it to a recovery service ($$$$) if the data are valuable and not backed up. Otherwise, I would bring it to Apple (assuming that you are within warrantee/applecare) and have them replace it.
    Good luck!

I´m using snow leopard the last version. What can i do to solve this problem and and continue using my itunes normally?

Try doing it in a WIndows Safe mode - Restart computer and hit F8 key right after your see BIOS check and choose "Safe mode with networking"
    Do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that does not work, whilst in safe mode, download Free Malwarebyte software from CNET's Download.com.  Install, update virus definition then perform a full scan.  Remove if it did find some viruses or trojans.  Restart computer.
Back to regular windows, do the SFC /SCANNOW again.
If that doesnot work, check to see if your Hard drive has errors or bad sectors
GO START BUTTON /COMPUTER, right mouse click OS (C:) and choose "Properties"
Choose "Tools" tab and under error checking, click "Check Now".
Make sure "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" is checked and click start.
Restart windows will perform the above task to fix errors  This may take hours depends on how big is your Hard Drive
    Good Luck!!.

Sorry, I am new to the type of problem-solution process and I do not know how to edit my first statement. My true statement is below:
My pdf freezes when I click on COMMENT. I am trying to get at the tools to edit a pdf. If I use the tools from the toolbar, there is no issue, but once I click COMMENT, the document freezes and I have to open Task Manager to crash it. This started in the last seven days (3.31.15).

I answered your questions below, BUT while I was searching for properties, I found the REPAIR ACROBAT INSTALLATION feature, did the repair and (Voila!) the issue was resolved!
Thanks for making me search for information.

I am using Acrobat XI Pro, version 11.0.10.32.
I did not create the file I was working in during the freezes, so I tried a PDF that I created with Adobe and it also freezes when I click on COMMENT. I did discover that the COMMENTS plug-in is loaded. (see image
I have used COMMENT for years without this issue occurring. It started in the last 2 weeks.
I could not find Properties under the file menu, but found a security setting in Preferences under the Edit menu. It did not have a way to allow/disallow COMMENT.

If you don't have an icloud account, then icloud is not the thing that's popping up a window.
If you are being asked to enter a password when accessing itunes, then the problem may be that you have purchased items (apps, songs, etc) on the device that were purchased using a different itunes account than the one you currently have defined on your device.
Purchased items are forever associated with the itunes account (the apple ID) that was used to make the purchase.  If you change the ID on the device, you won't be able to update any of them.  You'll have to purchase them again.
