'kmosx: I lost my admin user'  Not working Unix Guru required!

Hi,
My Dual G5 decided (by itself) that I was no longer qualified to administer it and has removed the admin privileges from my account demoting me to a standard user.
I tried Michael's 'kmosx: I lost my admin user' guide but am getting a Unix error after trying the 'nicl -raw /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb -create /groups/admin gid 80' command.
The error is 'create: invalid path'
I've successfully repaired the disk using the fsck - fy command and have no errors. I've also have write privileges on the disk.
Basically if there is a Unix guru that could assist it would be most appreciated.
Cheers

Ok, thanks for the support so far. I've ran the nidump -r /groups / command and it just hung there doing nothing. I had to ctrl+c to stop it. The same thing for the users.
I had a look in the local.nidb directory and I have a range of 'Store.xxxx' files with various dates. Would it be possible to revert back to a previous netinfo db? I'm assuming that these files are previous versions. The most recent is yesterdays Store.672 when I noticed the problem.
Also, in single user mode is it possible to create a new user with admin privileges? I could then use that user to change my login to admin and then remove the newly created user. Or does it have to have a record in the netinfo db?
If I remove the .AppleSetupDone file and re-run the setup program what will I lose? Will this overwrite any personal files (I have 30Gb of photos and databases that although backed up would I can still access through the standard user)?
Thanks in advance.

Note: this is not a replacement for I lost my admin user, which probably ought to be renamed "I lost my admin user (OS X 10.4 and earlier)", but that Tip will not work with Leopard.

If you are unfortunate enough to delete your only admin user, or remove his admin capability, then as long as you have another user with login capability, you can give that user admin rights as shown below. You can then re-create the original user or reinstate the admin capability using NetInfo Manager.
Print this post out in a mono-spaced font, and type carefully, paying attention to spaces and punctuation, since you cannot copy/paste in Single User mode.
Caution: in single user mode you have root privileges. Be careful! Substitute the name of 'youruser' below.
Boot into single user mode (Command-S) at startup which will eventually get you a shell prompt (ending in #). Then type the following:
    fsck -fy
Repeat the above until it says your disk is OK. Then continue with
    mount -uw /
dscl . -merge /groups/admin users youruser
If you get a message saying "invalid path", then type these two commands first:
    dscl . -create /groups/admin gid 80
    dscl . -create /groups/admin passwd '*'
and then repeat the "nicl ... -merge" command. Then:
    reboot
You will now be able to login as 'youruser' and have administrative privileges.
Membership of the 'admin' group is the only thing that distinguishes administrative users from ordinary users.

  • Visual admin tool not working

    hii guys,
in my netweaver system visula admin tool not working .when ever im trying to connect with user id and password its showing like this.how can i solve this issue.plz help me

    Hi,
Try to login to system info page with administrator or j2ee_admin for java and dual stack respectively to check if the password is correct.
If the password is incorrect, then check if you have any alternate admin ID. Change the administrator or j2ee_admin password, then try to login with the new password. Change the password of SDM and securestore to the new one.
If this is not the case, then check the log files in visual admin directory. Please post the same.
    Cheers...,

    Hi Sandesh,
First note that HR:Security Is for HRMS module for restricting data for respective OUs
MO:Security is for other Modules such as Inv, PO, AR, AP etc., for restricting data
Change the inventory Org to the one you want and then query data...
    Hope it helps.

  • Accessing Synchronizer Web Admin as a User not working

    Hello,
    We use DS Mobility 1.2.2.
Users cannot configure personnal settings from https://ds:8120/
They can successfully log, but the "Manage My Connectors" section is empty.
These users all synchronize their smartphones with GW.
    Thanks for any help.

The tree looks like somethings as :
    t=mytree
    o=myOrg1
    o=myOrg2
    ou=myou1,o=myOrg1
    ou=myou2,o=myOrg2
I add users only per groups.
    These groups are in cn=myDSGroup1,ou=groups,ou=myou2,o=myOrg2
Users that are in the same o that the groups can access Connectors Settings. For example, cn=myuser,ou=users,ou=dep,ou=myou2,o=myOrg2 is working.
    But cn=mybaduser,ou=users,ou=dep,ou=myou1,o=myOrg1 is not working.
There is no others difference between users.

  • Edit Template in Dynamic Conversion Admin is not working

Latest oracle UCM 10gR3 is installed with patches and Site Studio 1ogR4 on windows XP and it is running fine.
When I click on "Edit Template" button after selecting a template in Oracle Content Server >> Administration >> Dynamic Converter Admin >> Edit template nothing happens and no error message is displayed. Some times a dialog pops up with message "preparing to install template editor..". The first time I clicked on this "Edit Template" button, it has installed "Template Editor 10gR3(10.1.3.4.1) version 9.0.0" successfully and it is there in program files.
I find that Dynamic Conversion is working fine by checking in a word doc and it generates HTML. I tried this on IE6 and IE8 on two different UCM installation by enabling IE to run all ActiveX and Javascript but it did not work on either. I am logged on as admin user.
What could be the issue and how to resolve?

    Hi
Check Note.941978.1 to see the possible cause of the issue and also the workaround for the same.

  • OSX: Connecting to admin session not working anymore since 8.0.12

    Hey
It seems to me that connecting to console session does not work anymore since the recent update to 8.0.12. Had no troubles before the update, now it does not connect to the console session but a normal one. Please fix this.
Mac OSX 10.9.5, Apple Remote Desktop 8.0.12
    Cheers, Marcel.

    Hey Dharmesh,
Thanks for your reply. I mixed up terms. I cannot connect to the "admin session", in my last message I used the term "console session", sorry about that. Connecting works, but it connects normally instead of the admin session. Checkbox
"Connect to admin sesssion" is active.
In the logs I found the following message. Not sure it's related to my problem.

  • SES 10.1.8 Admin password not working

    Hi,
I installed SES 10.1.8 on my Windows 2000 machine and installation goes thro fine. For the Admin user, I specified the password as "welcome1" and it does not work when I try to login the Admin module. Can someone provide some pointer about How to debug?
I have an existing XE database using port 1521 and also an instance of SOA Suite 10.1.3 with its own Lite Database.
Can there be any potential issues with the SES DB installation/port etc.? How to debug?
    Thanks

I can't find the 10.4 install disk, so I was just using the computer's original install disk to change the admin password.
I am assuming these original disks that came with a Quicksilver may be as early as OS 10.1. I imagine password setting is a pretty fundamental process to any version of OSX but I would feel very uncomfortable about doing anything to a Tiger drive with an earlier OS version. Would be interesting to test, but not on my computer!
Here's two threads talking about resetting passwords without a boot disc:

  • Resetting admin account not working

I tried to update an application and was told I need to be logged on as administrator. I followed http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306876, but it did not work. I was able to log in a root and when I selected my user account to check "allow user to administer this computer" it was already checked. My account is noted as an Admin account and the the box is checked, but it still isn't working....
    Message was edited by: JayS

Thanks for the suggestions. I changed my account password and repaired the keychain as you described. Unfortunately, it still isn't working. I installed software for my digital camera off of disc, and I am trying to update the program within the program itself. A window continues to pop up stating that I need to log on as an administrator to do an update. My account is listed as an administrator account....
Any other thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks again.

  • Hyperlinks in Web Admin Client not working | BPC 10

    Hi all
    We are running:
    BPC10
    SP 13
    IE9
    Office 2010
2 of our admin users have been haviing problems with the 'Launch' menu on the homepage of the BPC web interface homepage.
This happens several times per day and in different environments. but there does not appear to be a pattern which might cause this.  Once the problem happens (no links can be launched in the launch menu) the user has to log off and then back on.  The user is trying to click the link "Planning and Consolidation Administration" when this happens
Has anyone else experienced this problem ?  Any suggestions on how to fix / capture the error ?
    Thanks
    Ian

    Hi Bishwajit
I can only really send you a screenshot of the admin launch panel where none of the links are clickable.
    Any ideas ?

  • SAP* user not working in new client

    Hi,
I created a new client from SCC4. And now I am trying to login with SAP* user and pass password but it is not allowing. Note provided in SAP Config Guide is not working.
I installed SAP Solution Manager 7.0 SP12 and then created a client.
Please let me know how to solve this issue.
    Points will be awarded.
    Regards.

    Hi!
I agree that the issue is probably due to the parameters for the automatic user SAP* - not sure about the Masterpassword though - the newly created client is only an entry in a table at this stage, so I don't think the system will know any password but the hardcoded one...
Something you should be very careful about is the Java-Stack, which is part of SolMan7 and which runs SMD. The Java stack can only interface with one client properly, so I am not sure what's the idea behind the newly created client.

    Hi Patrick
We are using SSO. and domain controller has service user. We are in 7.31 PI as Java so user mapping is not done but have same users in Active directory.
SSO is working fine. But, once specific service is not working where we are using technical user when SSO is active and it is working when SSO is inactive.

  • Oracle ses Admin password not working

    Hi,
The ip address of my machine has changed. So, the admin and search pages were not opening up since they have old ip address.
So I went to the files and changed all the occurences of old ip with new one. I was not able to change it in .dbf and .lock files.
After that, when I try to login through admin page, the password is not working.
Getting "Login failed. Check the log file for more information." Which log file to check for?
    Please suggest some workaround.
    Thanks,
    Shyamala

The log file is the oc4j log file in $SES_HOME/oc4j/j2ee/OC4J_SEARCH/log. See more info here.
Is this Windows? Before installation, you should have set up a loopback network adapter, as per the install guide. The setup would then have been immune to changes in IP address.
If the server name is hard coded into the various config files, it's easy enough to add an entry to the HOSTS file.
For example have a look in %ORACLE_HOME%\network\admin\listener.ora. You might find a line
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = DHCP_HOST_12345)(PORT = 1521))
This means the machines host name was supplied by DHCP and is no longer valid. If so simply make an entry in your hosts file
(C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts or /etc/hosts) which looks like
    127.0.0.1 dhcp_host_12345
That will force it to loop back to the local machine for all references to dhcp_host_12345
If you've actually got hard-coded IP addresses in the config file, things are a little harder. See what's in the oc4j log file and I might be able to suggest how to continue.

  • Manufacturing-admin still not working

    Hi everyone!
I had no problem in getting SQL Trace up and running on my local Netweaver instance. However now I'm stuck getting SQL Trace running on our test machine. I followed the instructions given in the respective documents as well as the ones given in thread [http://localhost:50000/manufacturing-admin/ not working |http://localhost:50000/manufacturing-admin/ not working   ]  - yet it won't work. In ICM Monitor the status of HTTPS protocol is inactive.
What might I be missing? Thanks for hints on solving this issue.

    Hi Juliane,
There are a lot of SAP Cryptographic libraries available from Service Marketplace, but it's tricky to find them:
    1. Login to the Service Marketplace
    2. Navigate to Software Downloads - > Installations and Upgrades
    3. In the download catalog find the link SAP Cryptographic Software
    4. Click the same link once again and in the popup window agree to the terms
    5. Browse the list of all available cryptographic libraries and download the one suitable for you software/hardware config
There are just three different libraries for Microsoft Windows:
    1. SAP Cryptographic Library Microsoft Win32 for x86/IA32 3342 08/06/2010
    2. SAP Cryptographic Library Microsoft Win64 for IA64 (Itanium) 3342 08/06/2010
    3. SAP Cryptographic Library Microsoft Windows 2003 for x86_64 3342 08/06/2010
You probably need the first one
Let us know if it helps
    Good luck
