Knocking sound in J4680 All-In-One

My J4680 Officejet All-In-One is making a loud knocking sound when it powers on. It does it for about 1 minute then stops. It seems to be working ok, but the noise is very annoying & I know it is not supposed to make that noise. Any suggestions.

It sounds like the encoder strip is missing/damaged/dirty. Open the ink access door and check for a clear plastic strip that runs parallel to the ink carriage (it tells the print head where it is located). If it is missing/damaged you may require servicing. If it is dirty try cleaning the encoder strip GENTLY with a soft cloth or q-tips. Be extremely careful not to damage the strip.

Loud rat-at-tat-tat noise in my J4680 All-in-One

My HP Officejet J4680 All-in-One has suddenly developed an terrible LOUD rat-at-tat-tat sound. It sounds like something plastic ratcheting against something. It's so loud, it sounds like it's about to break.
It happens when I turn the printer on and also, when it gets ready to print and when it realigns. It prints OK - there is no paper jam and a Test Sheet prints OK. The sound seems to be coming from under the area where the cartriges sit when they are ready to print.
The print has has light use and not been abused.
HELP...Any ideas as to what is wrong an how to fix it?

I have the 4500 desktop & it just started making loud noises also the same as yours. Guess it's time for a new printer!

Thanks for responding. What I did today was hard wire the printer to computer. then was able to get my original printer icon back and it was set as the default printer. I deleted the other icons, they were ghosted and I didn't what to use them. the one was a online printer going back to HP. Now I have to got my son to fix the remaining problem I have, with my messing around I somehow change the Network Name on the printer. He is a computer eng working on high tech cameras and also is the administrator of my machine. He has me locked out of administrative rights and for good reason, I wrecked a couple computers and when he built this one for me that was the rule. There is a little info that I don't have to finalize the last step in changing the Network Name back. I have run the printer from the printer control panel and it did find the correct Network and Network Name but is seemed like that is far as I could go. So I'm not that far from completing this project.

HP officejet j4680 all-in-one paper jam issue

I bought HP officejet j4680 all-in-one two months ago from a dealer. Now it keeps telling me a "paper jam" which doesn't exist. I tried everything from the troubleshooting in HP website. The jam light just keeps blinking. Now I am so frustrated with this product.

why cant the email be the mac address? or the serial number?
Seriously I went thru hoops to find out that HP is too stupid to include an easy way for all of their wireless printers on a network to be accessed?
maybe I need to buy a different brand next time.! Toss my Hp laptop, Desktop, Printer! and buy a samsung! Sheesh this is not only depressing its typical of HP!
I paid good money to have a wireless printer! but because HP cant figure out how to reach it out to it on the network with a unique # thats built in I have to go buy one that has a email address?

Wireless Problems between laptop with OS Windows 7 64 bit and HP Officejet j4680 all in one

Hi I am having problems connecting wirelessly to a HP Officejet j4680 all in one printer, even though it has been connected wirelessly before, and also works fine with the cable in.
OS - Windows 7 64-bit
Error - driver errors, saying the printer is not compatible with windows 7 64 bit (however it has worked previously)
Changes to system - cannot remmeber making any changes to OS

Uninstall the HP software using the uninistaller in the HP folder.
Restart your PC.
Get the latest software for your printer from the "Support & Drivers" link at the top of this page.

It can fix a lot on its own and if not give a better idea of what is going on.

Scanner set up for HP Officejet J4680 All-In-One

I'm trying to set up to scan from the HP OfficejetJ4680 All-In-one. I do not know what software I need to download to my Acer laptop to get the scan function to work on the HP Officejet

The best option, if it's available for your Operating System (Windows 7, etc.), is to download and install the Full Feature Software for your printer. The FFS includes the scanning option.
Here are the instructions:

(Re)install the basic driver or Full Feature Software:
Drivers control hardware connected to the computer (wired or wireless).
Software controls the programs that interact with the User.
Go to the top of the forum page to Support and Drivers
Enter your Printer Model information, and then go to Software and Drivers...
Enter your Operating System in the Drop-down menu... Scroll down
Look for category Driver - Product Installation Software
Select the appropriate Basic Driver or Full Feature Software – if available for your printer Save the *.exe installation package on your computer -
NOTE the name and the location - the *.exe file will likely save to "Downloads “Install the Software / Driver installation package: It will be named *.exe – the package will most likely be located in the Downloads folder. HP Officejet J4680 All-in-One Windoes 8 64-bit Driver Error

Hi,
I'm trying to install a driver for my J4680 officejet printer. I've downloaded the windows 8 64-bit driver for my new computer (I can't find the original CD anyway). I have verified that my OS is indeed windows 8 64-bit.
When running the installation. the install program successfully self-extracts, I choose "Install" in the newly-opened window, but then I get the following error during the system check stage:
The system cannot find the file specified.
I would appreciate your help.

I have run sfc/scannow three times, each time rebooting, and each time it apparently found problems but couldn't repair them all, I then ran the next phase DISM, online componenent store corruption utility, this found problems and fixed them, rebooted and ran scannow again, no problems found.
Rebooted, clicked the printer zipped file, it unpacked and came to the 'welcome, install-quit' window, clicked install, straight away the same file error message appeared, so no change apart from some windows files were missing/corrupt, but not the right ones?.
Thanks for the assistance, any thing else we can try please?.

HP J4680 all in one printer & scanner

I had to uninstall and reinstall my printer. I have windows 7 and it won't support my printer so I had to do a download of driver and software. All went well and I printed out some stuff. But, when I rebooted the computer the printer was no longer installed. I reinstalled via the HP print and scan doctor but the printer will not show up. Don't know what to do.

No problem. Please follow these steps in order:
1) Click on your start menu, then click all programs
2) Click on the HP folder
3) Click on the Officejet J4680
4) Click on printer set up and software, then add a new printer
5) Click on wireless and follow the instructions
Let me know if a printer gets installed after performing these steps.

J4680 All-In-One won't print

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, my HP J4680 won't print. It does everything except put ink on the paper. I have downloaded all S/L updates and even tried reinstalling drivers from the HP website. My printer operates in wireless mode.

1 HP printers and MFDs are notoriously poor performers with OS X 10.6
2 for real help on this, I'd move this thread over to 'Print & Fax', where there are a lot of people with a lot of experience in dealing HP nonsense.
3 I used to have an HP MFD. I no longer do, because I got tired of putting up with HP nonsense.

Print Cartridge Problem: Tricolor - HP Officejet J4680 All In One

I am seriously going to have an anxiety attack. I run a business from home & I HAVE to have a printer. I just spent $50 on new ink cartridges. My printer was working fine for the last week, and then tonight I have this error message:
Print cartridge problem: [Tri Color] . Refer to device documentation to troubleshoot
SO I reset the printer, shut it on and off, cleaned the cartridge and the printer, switched out the new cartridge with the old one ~ same problem. Over and over.
I called HP and they said that since my printer is out of warranty they can't help me unless I purchase a new warranty plan. What horrible customer service. This printer is a product of HP and I should be able to get help regardless of when the warranty expired.
This is so frustrating. If I can't get help, I think I would rather buy a new printer of a different brand instead of paying for a warranty after I just spent 50 bucks on ink. GRRR!

Hp j4680 all-in-one printer stops before printing is completed

Ever since windows 8.1 downloaded to my computer I've lost my scanner and have problems printing. It stops before printing is completed and now it won't print at all. I've tried going to H.P. to help but it now says that no printer is found. What can I do?

Be sure to clarify how the printer is connected to your PC, what HP software has been installed and what security program have been installed.

No sound on HP all in one ms226d how to set up driver ?

I just bought new pc model ms 226d which come with window7 32 bit version
but no sound out. I tried to install driver from realtek and HP support website.
After finished installation there are no sound out. How can I set up and adjust my PC?

To be honest I didnt understand what happened exactly. Is headphones jack still in the port and you cannot remove it or what?

I cannot say if the repair would be expensive. If the headphones jack is defective now it must be replaced.
I recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help.
