Knowledge source failed? Here's a solution . . .
I was searching these forums for a solution because every time I tried to use the form wizard on a particular document, I would get the "Knowledge source failed. <Gather Form Data> [1]" error message. It drove me nuts for about a half-hour. Here's a quick workaround. Simply print the troublesome document with the Adobe PDF built-in printer, and run the form wizard on the "printed" PDF. Easy.
However, there were no active forums in which to share this nifty solution, so I started this thread. Hope this helps!
I'm getting this on my mac (10.8.4). Trying to print a word 2011 (14.3.6) document and convert it to a form. As you know, printing a PDF from a mac requires saving it as a PDF because you cannot install a PDF print driver. There are two options, the built in mac pdf printer and the Adobe PDF. I have tried both printers. I have converted the docx directly in Acrobat (XI, 11.0.03) and still get the "Knowledge Source Failed" error when I auto generate the form fields. Not sure if it's even affecting anything. Form seems OK otherwise.

Acrobat 9.1 "Knowledge source Failed"
Upon clicking add or edit fields the knowledge base fails.
Is there a way to repair or fix or a reason why this might occur?I'm getting the same error except that I'm using Acrobat for Mac. I created a form in inDesign and exported as PDF. It opens just fine in Acrobat but when I click on "Add or Edit Text Fields" and then click ok so Acrobat detects the fields I get this error:
"Knowledge source failed. <Gather Form Data> [1]"
Anybody have a clue?
Is it a font issue? How the PDF is exported issue?
Anyone?

Connection for Source failed because the environment is not trusted
Good day all,
This is the second time I come across this error on two different forms.
This happens whenever I have a form connected to my database(SQL) and configured my ODBC.
My form is Reader Extended, when I load it outside LC Designer I get this error : "Connection for Source failed because the environment is not trusted".
I have searched for solution, one that I saw says one must change bindings from None to Normal, I've done that and didnt solve my problem.
Can someone please assist me.
Regards,
AceCheck the two below links and see if they can be of any helpful to resolve your issue.
In this thread Paul is asking to change the DSN setting.
"If you set up your DSN as a system DSN instead of a user DSN then that message shoudl disappear."
http://forums.adobe.com/message/2873482
In the below blog, Steve is mentioning to clone the connection to get rid of the issue.
You should be able to get around this by changing this line:
var oDB = xfa.sourceSet.nodes.item(nIndex);
to this:
var oDB = xfa.sourceSet.nodes.item(nIndex).clone(1);

Here is the solution that fixed flash locking up my browser...
OK, I will attempt to explain as clearly as possible what was happening, and what I did to fix the issue. pretty simple, without all of the registry key hacks and edits, no in depth, "advanced", if you will, knowledge needed, so here goes
The system that was affected is an HP DV4 laptop that I upgraded from win vista home premium 64 to win 7 home premium 64. This system did not have the issue before upgrading from Vista to Win 7. Okay, so I banged my head for about a week, trying to figure out why flash was locking up on all browsers after about a second or two, I tried searching forums and trying methods to fix the issue that made sense. None worked. I tried simple things, uninstall, reinstall, reboot, offline uninstaller/installer, etc....nothing worked....suddenly I had an appifany...if I spelled that correctly. Why this had not dawned on me in the first place, I dunno.
I figured that If I disabled all other startup programs and services that aren't microsoft and see if there were any issues, then that would give me a base to work off of as far as excluding other programs that are installed on my system, and go from there, depending what my finding were at that time. So, what I did was first Uninstall completely the adobe Flash client on my system (don't think that needs explained).
Now that the Flash client is out of the way, you want to bring up the MSCONFIG utilitiy and modified the startup of the programs and services when the system boots. You can do this by simply navigating:
Start button in the bottom left/ click on the RUN command/ type in the white bar, "MSCONFIG"
the Microsoft Configuration utility will appear on your screen. You only need to pay attention to the SERVICES and STARTUP tabs.
Go to SERVICES tab. Click on the "Hide all Microsoft Services" checkmark box, make sure there is a checkmark in the box, then click on the button that says "Disable All".
Next go to STARTUP tab. click the button that says "disable all".
Click apply, then click okay. The utility will prompt you to reboot the system at this time, DO NOT reboot the system at this time, you have some more stuff to do....
Now you will make some changes to your browser....kindof clean it up a little. I'm assuming that everyone is using IE8, this is what i'm basing this technique off of.
go to start/run/ type in the box "INETCPL.CPL" or while browser is open, go to tools/internet options.....either way same thing.
Go to ADVANCED tab, at the bottom of that tab, you'll see RESTORE ADVANCED SETTINGS and RESET tabs. First, click on the restore advanced settings tabs in order to reset the advanced settings just in case there is something that might be set incorrectly, Not likely, but just a precautionary measure. Next, clikc on the reset tab. This will reset IE to it's default state when Windows was first installed and IE was first run. This will most importantly get rid of any addins, toolbars, etc that might be having conflicts as well.
Now that your startup programs and services and browser is reset, you will go ahead and reboot the system.
When your system reboots, you can go to youtube to watch a video, in which, the website will recognize that you don't have adobe flash installed, and prompt you to go to the flash site and download the latest version. Once you have the latest version installed, you should be in business.
As far as the programs and services that you've disabled on startup, there are some must haves that are going to have to be restarted by going back into the inetcpl. Things like your antivirus and other security programs are gonna have to be reenabled first, then any others, course I would only reenable one or two at a time simply for control measures, in order for you to keep track of which program is conflicting with adobe.
BOTTOM LINE: In my case, I had a conflict between adobe flash and either a third party background service or a third party program that was set to start at boot up. After completing the above procedure, my problems were permanently fixed. I however have not even attempted to reenable each and every background service and program that I disabled, simply because most of what I disabled, and might notably be the case in most everyones issues, is that when a system is bought from the store or manufacturer, the manufacturer; in my case HP, puts a crap ton of programs on the computer that ARE NOT NEEDED. the programs like HP system monitor or hp wireless assistant, etc.. etc...
I simply reenabled my antivirus and CAC card programs and a couple others that I need, other than that i'm good, those programs don't conflict, and i've been watching videos in flash for more that two weeks now. If anyone has issues or questions just ask.Artificially induced intelligence deteriorates a rate-time directly propositional to the quantity of the increase.

trying to activate ods but getting this message that the creation of the export data source failed.
and it also gives message that RFC Connection to source system is damaged===> no metadata upload
Please can someone help me with this.
Thanks in advance.
MichelleHi,
Check ur source system connection. by going to RSA1-> Source System-> right click and then select check.
U will get the info about the source system Connection. IF RFC has failed then better be in touch with ur basis.
Or try restoring ur source system connection by
Source system-> Restore.
Its sets all the default conenctions b/n ur systems.
Once again check the connection now. if it says ok.. then try do the export data source and then assign the data source to info source and then maintain the Update rules..
Hope this helps-

Broken image links on APEX 3.0 in Oracle 10g XE? Here's the solution
You're on Oracle 10g XE and you've just upgraded your APEX from 2.0 to 3.0. You log into APEX Admin and there's tons of broken image links. You look into the Oracle documentation for APEX and it instructs you to copy the Images folder into your htmldb directory if you're using Oracle 10g standard, etc. But you're using Oracle 10g XE and there is no Images folder anywhere to be seen!
HERE'S THE SOLUTION:
http://daust.blogspot.com/2006/03/where-are-images-of-application.html
Excerpt from the website:
In OracleXE these resources (Images) are stored directly in the database, using the Oracle XMLDB feature. You can access the resources and modify them directly by using the WebDAV feature of the XMLDB.
(1) With Internet Explorer, just go to File > Open > http://127.0.0.1:8080/i (check "open as webfolder")
Then, copy the contents of your apex/images folder into this webfolder. It will take about 10 minutes. When it's done, refresh your Apex 3.0 website and lo and behold! Images! :)
Be sure to thank Dietmar Aust for his solution to this problem, provided on his website: http://daust.blogspot.com/2006/03/where-are-images-of-application.htmlAnother option: Try the Oracle Database XE and Application Express 3.0.1 install guide.

32-bit VST plugins in CS5 - here's a solution
For all people who want to use their old VST plugins in Premiere CS5 but could not use them because they are programmed for 32-bit hosts - here's a solution:
There is a little program called jBridge (jstuff.wordpress.com/jbridge) which works as a bridge for 64-bit hosts and 32-bit plugins. It's simple to use, install it and run the configurator. Here your are guided through the few stepps that have to be done: Choose directory of the 32-bit vst plugins and choose the destination directory (premiere vst directory) that's all. Remember to start the configurator with administrator rights because it have to write files in Premiere-VST directory).
Now I can use my old VST plugins as good and fast as in CS4. jBridge is shareware, you can test it as demo which fully runs for 20 minutes. The full version costs 15 Euro which seems to be a very good investment.
Just an information, hope it will help s.o.
spreeniGood to know.
Hope that it solves problems for a lot of users.

If Office seems 'broken'... Here's a Solution.
This applies to Office365 and Office 2013
If, you have suddenly, recently, found Office to be 'broken' or not functioning fully or properly...
If, you find Microsoft Office Click-to-run (Service) is stopped & won't start
If, both Quick & Online Repair are tried but, to no avail
If, you are getting Error 3088-8 & or Error 30145-4
And various messages to the effect "can't Run, can't complete, can't uninstall, etc. etc."
Here is the solution:
> Here,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501/en-us
Follow the instructions, starting w/ hitting the Fix-it button. Basically, you download & save the removal tool somewhere, > that location & run it. Then > your Office install file & re-install Office. Upon completion, all will
be peachy, once again.

Anyone having problems Tethering with the USB Cable here is the solution
Here is the solution to what took me 3 months to figure out, absolutely no one in this discussion board had the answer to no even the most expert.
here is the site
http://www.mackb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/mac/28074/USB-tethering-with-iPhoneclaire10b wrote:
does anyone have any other ideas to try or observations on compatibility between iPhone, Samsung, and HTC for international SMS?
International texting can be a crap shoot. It's not a question of phone compatibility but of carrier interoperability. I regularly text from my iPhone to my (domestic) colleagues (who all have Samsungs) and to a friend with and HTC (an old one, too) without difficulty.
One last question - I've never deleted my SMS from my friend, and would prefer not to. But it's pretty much the only thing I haven't tried. Does anyone think this might solve the problem eg if there are orphan texts somewhere on the network?
I'm not sure there really is such thing as an orphan text. If a text isn't deliverable, the carrier deletes it from it's system. SMS is quite a robust system.
There is no general incompatibility between iPhones and other phones as far as texting is concerned. I suspect what you may be seeing is a combination of an old phone and/or an issue with one or both of your carriers. Intermittent technical problems are some of the most difficult to solve.
I have vague memories of people saying that a trailing space at the end of the text made a difference when they had similar problems. It was a couple of years ago. (Honestly, this problem doesn't come up that often!). I don't recall if putting in the traling space helped, or removing it helped. It may also just have been magical thinkning.
Best of luck. -
Why is type inference failing here?
Hi
I tested code with generics 2.2. Can compile it but get runetime-error:
Thx Gerhard
public class Cell2 {
<A> void doS(A[] h, A i){
h[0] = i;
public static void main(String[] args) {
Cell2 c = new Cell2();
c.doS(new Integer[]{new Integer(5)}, new String("Hallo"));
}Actually, inference is not failing here. Some would say that it is just doing its job too well.
A call to doS will be allowed if inference can come up with an actual type T to replace A with such that, in this case, String is a subtype of T and Integer[] is a subtype of T[]. Notice that this doesn't mean that the type of i has to be identical to the element type of h, they just have to both have a common supertype. In this case, Object works (as does Serializable and Comparable<?>). In fact, no matter which arguments are given to doS, the call will be allowed if the first argument is an array, because Object can always be used for A. So, though it may seem counterintuitive, the method signature exactly corresponds to this:
void doS(Object[] h, Object i) { ... }which would also compile but fail at runtime.
The method can be written safely, however. You just have to state explicitly that the second argument has to be a subtype of the element type of the first:
<A, B extends A> doS(A[] h, B i) { ... }With this signature, the call to doS with an Integer[] and a String is caught by the type system:
Test.java:8: doS<A, B extends A>(A[],B) in Test cannot be applied to
(java.lang.Integer[],java.lang.String); inferred type argument(s)
java.lang.Integer,java.lang.String do not conform to bounds of type
variable(s) A,B
doS(new Integer[] {new Integer(5)}, "hello");
^
1 errorI hope that helped -- inference can be tricky (and hard to explain, too).

Using SSIS XML Source failing / renaming a node element
hello
I have tried to use SQL Server SSIS XML Source reader to load a file from one of our data providers to SQL Server however the reader fails with the following error:
The XML Muni File was unable to process the XML data. The element "default_status" cannot contain a child element. Content model is text only.
it seems that for some reason the reader fails to identify when the node and its child here labeled "default_status" have the same nomenclature.
I am reaching out to anyone with a solution for this - or a way to write an SQL XML script that renames the children of that node to "default_status_id" for example. then we can use the out of the box reader to load the file.
any ideas suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

you can simply use this

How to find all uses of data source views in an SSIS solution
I am upgrading Visual Studio from 2008 to 2013 (with SSDT) and SQL Server 2008 R2 to 2012. I have a solution with over 30 dstx files. Each file has multiple OLE data sources and lookup tasks. There is inconsistent usage of data source views
throughout (as compared to SQL queries or table references). It is my understanding that all data source views need to be removed before upgrading SSIS packages from BIDS to SSDT. I tried searching the files as XML for the DSVs but it appears the
GUID reference changes per dstx file. It seems like I will have to look at each source/lookup. Is there quicker way to search for where they are used?
Thanks
Adding this question here. Posted question incorrectly in VSO forum.All right, yes, they are dropped
Never upgraded a package that had them.
What happens if you just upgrade leaving a copy?
Arthur My Blog
This ended up being what I did for many of the packages. Upgrading the packages severed the data source views and left the SQL in the related tasks (e.g. OLE Source task). Sorry for the delayed mark as answered.
