I have recently joined as a BW Analyst and will be attending another work location for Knowledge Transfer about the current system from one of the BW Consultant.
I would appreciate your views regarding important questions I need to ask during this session and also what preparation I need to make in advance so that I dont miss out anything.

For the KT perspective, following points are important.
1. Take a copy of all the documentation done at onsite...design docs, Func. Specs, Tech Specs
2. Have a list of all the object developed
3. You should be having all the business rule, if any, on your finger tips
4. Understand all the coding involved
5. Naming convention should be clarify.
6. Overall, you should have a bird's eye view of the project understanding.

J2EE Applications Knowledge Transfer

As a result of a rebid, the Company A for which I am working recently won a contract that had been administered by the Company B for the past 7 years.
To fully possess the application that was built by the Company B, I am preparing a list of questions (see below) to facilitate the transfer. Because my skills in the field are not quite up to the task, I am inviting comments and suggestions to ensure a smooth knowledge tranfer.
Particularly, I have no prior experience in the areas of building an application to Dev, Sat, and Prod and releasing an application, what should I ask in order to possess the knowledge in building and releasing an application?
Here is the list compiled by me:
1. Provide software application development documents; e.g. uses cases, sequence diagrams, class diagrams, and etc. If the aforementioned documents are unavailable, what are the document standards followed? And please provide those documents.
2. Provide the User's Manual for the software application developed
3. Provide access to software application code version control repository
4. List the application development environment
     What is the operating system used? Is it the Windows (which version)? Or UNIX (which version)? Or both? Or others?
     What is/are the application server(s) and their respective version(s) used for software development? WebSphere (which version)? Or WebLogic (which version)? Or Jboss (which version)? Or some other server(s)?
     What is the portal server used (which version)?
     What is the IDE and its version used for software development? The Eclipse? The NetBeans? Or some other IDE?
     What is used for version control? CVS? Or SVN? Or something else?
5. Provide application production server configurations for code development and deployment
Examples:
     Services configuration; such as data source, connection pool, transaction services, messaging services, cache services, authentication services, etc.
6. List the application development languages used and their respective versions
     Examples: HTML and XML and their derivatives? XSL and its derivatives? Java? C#? AJAX? JavaScripts? Sevlets? JSP? JavaBean? EJB? Perl? VBScript? and etc.
     Is the application web based? Or it is also a wireless application that uses WML or some other technologies to render data onto hand held devices
     Is the Web Services technologies; SOAP, WSDL, UDDL, and etc., used in developing the application?
7. List all the code development tools and their versions used for the application code development
8. List all the frameworks and their versions used for the application code development
     Examples: Struts, Spring, Hibernate, and etc.
9. Provide the original Java code of all the customized JAR files used in the application
10. List all the third party products used for the application development
11. List all the utility functionalities provided by the application and the technologies used to implement those functionalities
Examples:
     Does the application generate printouts? What are the format of those printouts? PDF? MS Excel? MS Word? And/or others?
     Does the application use single sign-on?
     What are the technologies used to impose application security (e.g. authentication and authorization)?
     Does the application provide e-mail functionality? Is JavaMail used to implement the e-mail functionality?
     Does the application generate reports? What technologies are used? JReport? Crystal Report? Or some other technologies?
12. Provide ANT/Maven scripts that are used to build and deploy and application
13. Provide the schema and DDL of the database tables used for the application development
14. Provide the code for all the stored procedures used for the application development
15. List the data persistence and retrieval languages used for the application development
     Examples: SQL? Or PL/SQL? Or others?
16. List all the business rules implemented in the application
17. Document the business rules engines used to implement the business rules in the application
18. Provide all the images and watermarks used in the application
19. List all the code testing tools used for unit test, integration test, and module test of the application
Examples: Junit, Easy Mock, etc.

Dear Lakshmi Nese,
Knowledge transfer means making you at par with your project mates in terms of knowledge. This is generally done for long term support projects. When you join a project which is running say for quite sometime, to induct you in the project Knowledge Transfer (KT) is given.
For upgradation part, knowlege transfer is very important. It will help you to find out what is in the existing system and help you to resolve the objects after the upgradation is over.

SAP's IBU for Higher Education offers a Ramp Up Knowledge Transfer Training for EHP 4 Student Lifecycle Management from March 16-18 in Walldorf, Germany. There are still open seats available. Hi all I need to transition off a project and need to come up with a knowledge transfer / transition plan. Does anyone have any that you have used on SAP projects in the past. When I google, I get very generic type of plans that are not IT/SAP specific.

KT or Knowledge transfer is Like when u r replaced by someone or when u r moved to some other project in that case some other functional consultant is coming in place of you.
So whatever work u have done.It has to be explained to him ,that means u r transfering your knowledge to him so that he can understand what customization and the business process that has been understood by you.And can take over ur charge.

Unfortunately, our limited exerpience makes it tough to know if the issue is with the CTI integrator or CRM. We have a different integrator AMC with Cisco very few issues. The CTI integrator should have logs where they can view the data passing thru their tool. In CRM t-code CRM_ICI_TRACE can be used to used to see the CRM user data. if the user has a PID with CRM_ICI_TRACELEVEL = XXX then more detail level is provided.
We have not experienced the issues you have described. Every blue moon we get a user gets in catch 22 where they can't hang up or end (hang up says not in a call, end says to end the phone call 1st)

much like the email above, i am having trouble importing movies --all taken with my same nikon camera and uploaded to iphoto-- from iphoto08 to imovie08. i did a software update today and half the movies i wanted from iphoto, somehow, ended up on imovie. not the half i need to work with, by the way. just came back from christmas with the family. the first time my dad has seen my son. the first time my wife has seen my dad. lots of pictures. my dad wants copies. i got great ideas about making him a DVD... in imovie, i choose, "import movies", follow the steps, create a new event AND... no movie clips show up in my new event... BUT, when i click "mac HD" on my desktop and go the "imovie events", i see the movies is just supposedly imported to imovie as files and can watch them. doesn't help me much when trying to create a movie to send to my dad. no video is played in imovie. HELP HELP HELP!!! i went so far as to trash my 15 movies from iphoto because i thought perhaps the computer was seeing them as photos and not movies. right now my vacation movies are on my desktop. how can i get them to show up in imovie and start my project? HELP HELP HELP!!!

I think you have set your iPod to an option which everytime you connect it to itunes, it will delete all songs on it and replace it with songs currently in your library. What you need to do is click on the ipod on the sidebar, and on the bottem of the new page click the tick box that says "Manually manage music and video". That way you can delete old songs from your computer and they will stay on your ipod everytime you connect it. Hope that helps ^_^

I'm currently working in a very big project, and there, it's organized like that:
Some time before GoLive, the teams were mixed (project team were mainly external consultants), and for every external consultant, an internal ressource was assigned to take over the tasks. Then, there's a time of parallel work, but automatically, the internal ressources take over more and more of the tasks, and finally, one by one, the external consultants are "phased out".
We defined, what documents had to be delivered for hand over - ppts describing the general issues, a system management manual describing the administrative steps and so on.
And: to check the performance of the hand-over of the tasks, there were weekly or biweekly meetings with the external ressource and the internal counterpart, where the status of the task handover was analysed.

Digibeta Transfer newbie question (CS4 encoding issue)

Hi,
I need to export some footage (17mins) and transfer it to digibeta, the footage is shot on Panasonic HVX200 HDV 720p (24p) and edited on Premiere CS4 with the HDV 720p 24p setting.
I got to ask someone from a local transfer service and they said the output file should be in quicktime format, preferably 720x486 uncompressed yuv 10bit 4:2:2 codec. but then he said it needs to be in 29.97fps, even if my footage was shot on 720p (24p) 23.976fps.
So my questions would be:
1. should i really encode the footage with the 29.97fps setting? will it change how the footage looks, especially if it is supposed to have a 24p film look?
2. Also they need 720x486 but the original is 720x480, does it change the aspect ratio a bit too?
3. I heard there is a file size limit of rought 4~5gig for quicktime format encoding on PC. Since my footage is about 17mins long, I expect the uncompressed file will be very big (i did a test to encode a 10sec clip and the resulted file is about 300mb), so will I have problem encoding file of such size?

File > Save As
Choose Illustrator Format (.ai)
Click OK
Choose Adobe Illustrator CS3 from the drop down menu at the top of the second dialog window
Click OK
Open file in CS3
This should retain most everything, but as Myllennium pointed out, if you use a CS4-Only feature some changes may occur to maintain appearances in CS3. For example, multiple-artboards in CS4 will be converted to a single artboard with guides for the other artboards.

File Transfer - Preparing Endlessly

Me and my buddy both have Google Talk accounts set up in iChat and we're trying to drop images into chats and transfer files between each other, but we can't. Whenever we try to send a file it says "Preparing..." and never stops.
Both of us are using the same settings:
Server: talk.google.com
Port: 5223
Use SSL (ticked)
Automatically discover server & port (not ticked)
Warn before password is sent insecurely (ticked)
Use Kerberos v5 for authentification (not ticked)
Is there a solution to this problem?

I searched iChat Help and pressed the ? mark in the Connection Doctor Network Status.
iChat Help states clearly now that iChat prefers a Full Cone NAT device.

Port Restricted in the Connection Doctor seems to read that ports are pointed to specific places. (Which seems a little at odds with UPnP)
I have a Sagem Fast2504 which has a very similar set up (it does Ping Blocking but not the DOS or SPI option) and I am getting the Port Restricted listing.
I can Call the Test accounts at least and can get Incoming calls.
I would check first if a Firmware update is available.

Two Songs Won't Transfer + Another question

I purchased two songs, dollars were deducted, they are showing on the Playlist on my computer, but when I "sync", the songs don't transfer to my IPod?
Question #2: I had to have my computer restored, so I lost my playlist; the playlist on my computer isn't as complete as my IPod songs. ie, there are 26 songs on my playlist but 41 in my IPod. How do I transfer all the songs from my IPod to my computer playlist.
I'm not real savvy with all this so please keep answers on a beginner level. Thanks

When you say Playlist, do you mean the Purchased playlist that has a green icon next to it?
Or do you mean, your main music library is only showing a total of 24 songs?
If your main library has the 41 songs, you can drag them all over into the green Purchased playlist again. You should get a message about adding or skipping duplicates. Obviously, press the Skip key.
Anyway if you can check this without your Ipod plugged in. I can't tell if they are missing from your entire library, or just the Purchased playlist.
You can tell if they are purchased files by setting your view options.
itunes menu > View > View Options > "Kind" checkbox
If the Kind column shows Purchased or Protected, then it's from the itunes store.

Classic ipod update/transfer/compatibility questions

I have a classic ipod (old) that has a cracked screen, and does not hold a charge well. I have itunes downloaded on my pc (also old). I'm looking to upgrade everything at once. My questions are:
If the songs on my current ipod are windows compatible, do I need to purchase a pc again, or can I purchase an ipad or mac and have the songs play without having to repurchase my whole music catalog?
If I can have the "windows" music play on a new apple product do I have to use my ipod as a hard disk to transfer the music, since classic is not icloud enabled? If not, what would be involved with the "switch-over"?
If my current windows compatible music won't play on a new apple product, will an ipod touch be compatible with the new windows version? At my local apple store, it said XP, Vista and 7, not ME.

I believe iTunes version 7.x will support the 3rd gen iPod. That's what I had before I had to upgrade to a new iPod. Version 2.2. was the last firmware update for those iPods.
