Known working sites now blocked for security certifiates, needs fixed

Facebook and yahoo mail suddenly displayed the 'this site is not to be trusted' notice, and when bypassed by 'I know the risks' the page supposedly loads but is not in a useable form, it is just a list on the left but none of the items when clicked will do anything, the 'page' remains the same.
I have deleted and reinstalled firefox and the problem remains the same
My connection to the internet is DSL via Century link
Other browsers work but I would prefer to use firefox but it is NOT useable in any way as it is.

in case the error code equals ''sec_error_unknown_issuer'', please attempt to add an exception on the bottom of the error page & inspect the certificate (see the screenshot attached for instructions):

You are actually running an older version of Firefox (8). You should update to Firefox 9.0.1 and see if that helps

I have (sorry forgot to add that). I was switched around and finally I was told I would be put through to a supervisor but after being on hold for about 10 minutes the phone went dead, I did not lose connection so I do not know if I was hung up on or there was some technical difficulty. I called again yesterday and did in fact speak with a supervisor for Account Security but he told me he did not know why it was happening and put me through to a different number but that ended up not being any helpful either. That's when I decided to give it a shot on here!

If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. 502 Error received for a known working site

Hello,
I'm having trouble resolving an error with a particular website. A HTTP 1.1 502 (bad gateway) error is received when browsing the site. Bizarrely though our failover proxy which has identical rules and proxy.cfg options works ok.
I've used PKTSCAN.NLM to acquire a trace for each server, which showed a HTTP 1.0 GET request on the problem server and a HTTP 1.1 GET request on the working proxy, which led me to believe it was a config issue. However the PROXY.CFG files in \ETC\PROXY\LOG\HTTP\COMMON show the same.
We've restarted the problem proxy and deleted and attempted to re download the site to cache with no change, the problem has resolved itself in the past for a few days then returned and not worked since. Firewall logs show all traffic is being allowed and Routing appears ok.
Has anyone any ideas on what I can do troubleshoot this further? I at least have a working backup proxy, but cannot switch between without pushing out registry changes and this seems silly being as it's just the 1 site causing this problem.

proxy.cfg has a switch to enable http 1.1
SendHTTP11Request=1
This will work as long a Browser sends a http 1.1 request.

it is a comm issue. For any reason this site becomes available for this
proxy. you best shot is to take a lan trace on bm server. If you see
that proxy sends the GET to the correct ip (check destination mac
address to verify that it is send to the correct default gateway)and no
answer is seen back, then it is something in the path blocking it or a
routing problem. Next step will to take a lan trace on the next hop from
this server, normally its default gateway and see if it gets the packet
and if it gets forwarded. If not, you've found it, if yes, then another
device above this one is causing it so you move to the next
hop...etc,etc,etc till you find which one is causing it.

TUTORIAL: Previously working effects now missing? Here's the fix...

WARNING: This process involves editing the Windows registry, so if you are squeamish about that sort of thing, do not attempt this. I'm not responsible for broken computers, hurt feelings, or terrified household pets.
I've ocassionally run into an issue since CS4 where certain plugins/effects would spontaneously cease loading in Premiere Pro and functioning, and it apparently continues to affect CS5. This happened on three total different computers, so I'm not sure what the underlying cause is. There was no clear reason why this would happen: I'd use the effect one day, come back the next and load my project, and the effects would be reported as "missing" upon project load:
This doesn't happen with the "built-in" effects that ship with Premiere, but it has happened repeatedly with the Cycore effects (copied from the AE plugins directory) or with third-party plugins like those from DigiEffects, Red Giant, Trapcode, etc. After this loading mesage, the instance of the filter would show up in the Effects Control Panel as "Offline Filter" and the filter would have no effect on the clip to which it is applied. This isn't a case of the effect simply not being compatible with Premiere, as they had previously showed up in the Effect bin and could be applied and used, as evidenced by the error pop-up above. Uninstalling and reinstalling the plugins has no effect on correcting the issue. After a bit of hunting around, I finally figured out how to correct the problem--not the underlying cause, which I still cannot pinpoint, but I can at least get the filters/effects/plugins loading and operating again. Note that the following applies to Windows systems; I'm not sure if this affects Macs, and if it does, I have no clue as to how to correct it.
In Explorer, go to the following folder: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.0. Inside, you will find a file called Plugin Loading.log. This is simply a text file which you can open with Notepad or a similar text editor. In it, you'll find a long list of entries like this:
Anything that says "The plugin was successfully loaded from the registry" was obviously successfully loaded, and therefore able to be used in Premiere. However, upon scrolling through the file, you will see something like this (using the CC Snow example from above):
At some point in the list, the successfully-loaded plugins will stop and the list will change to "The plugin is marked as Ignore, so it will not be loaded." Herein lies the problem and the solution; we need to correct this issue in the registry, since we know from the above example that the plugins are loaded from the registry.
In Windows, click the Start button/orb, and select Run; in the panel that appear, type in regedit. This will launch the Registry Editor. A good safety precaution before going any further is to select File > Export and save your ENTIRE registry by selecting the All radio button. Pick a location and back it up; it may take a few moments. This is important to do if you're not familiar with editing the registry, because you can pretty quickly toast your OS installation if you poke at animals you shouldn't. You've been warned.
Navigate to the following key in the Registry Editor: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.0\PluginCache.64\en_US. Here, you will see a long list of other subkeys, each of which bears the name of a plugin. If you click on one of the keys in the left pane (looks like a folder icon from Explorer), you will see a list of values, their types, and the data they hold in the pane on the right. Using the Plugin Loading.log text file as a guide, compare a plugin that loads with one that doesn't. You'll see the following disparity:
If the "Ignore" value is set as "0" (binary data), the plugin loads; if the "Ignore" value is set as "1," the plugin does not load. Based on this information, the solution should be apparent:
Using the Plugin Loading.log text file as a guide, change this data for any "Ignore" value set to "1." An important note: this does not "enable" effects that wouldn't otherwise work in Premiere Pro anyway. For example, some of the Cycore effects, like Time Blend, Time Blend FX, and Split 2, do not work in Premiere, regardless of how the "Ignore" value is set. If you should happen to change them, Premiere will set the value to "1" the next time you launch the program.
Once you've changed these values (there's no need to save, as the changes are immediately made to the registry), launch Premiere. If you were successfully, nothing interesting will happen--you'll be greeted with no error messages, and your once-missing effects will resume their place and settings on your sequence clips. You can confirm the "fix" by reopening Plugin Loading.log (be sure to have closed this file before relaunching Premiere, as it is simply overwritten each time), and looking for the entries that were previously ignored:
There you have it. Again, I don't know the reason why this happens, but I've been bitten by this oddity numerous times in CS4, and now in CS5. My best guess is that it happens when Premiere crashes during loading (which seems to happen to me) or there is some other "issue" during launch. As a sort of self-defense mechanism, Premiere tells the registry to disable these plugins to ensure a successful load the next time the program is launched, but then they are not automatically re-enabled, and hence the need for this somewhat convoluted fix. Under normal circumstances, I would imagine that relatively few users will ever encounter this issue--but if you do, you now know how to get back to work.

A great set of screen clips & tutorial. But I'm compelled to tell you guys it's even simpler than that.
All you have to do is delete the en_US keys for both the Premiere Pro & After Effects plug-in caches in the registry at:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.5\PluginCache.64\en_US &
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\After Effects\10.5\PluginCache.64\en_US
Of course, have the applications closed prior to deleting the keys. Upon launching the Premiere Pro & After Effects again, both applications will regenerate their cache folders (they'll re-appear) in the registry & you should then see all your installed plug-ins if they are installed in the correct folders & aren't corrupted.
Note that Pr & Ae will take significantly longer to launch as it re-scans all the installed plug-ins again.
If you don't want to dig through the registry, here's a copy of VBscripts to do it for you. Don't see all your plugins? One of the apps choose to ignore your plug-in's without provocation?
...just run these & re-launch the Premiere & After Effects. Enjoy.

Update to iOS7 now asks for security code. I don't have one.

During the update to iOS 7.0.4 you are encouraged to create and use a passcode. Are you sure the screen you are seeing is not just asking for you to CREATE a passcode? If so I recommend creating, REMEMBERING and using a passcode to protect the data on your iPhone.
But there should also be a small "Skip" button that you can tap to avoid creating a passcode.

So, I've been working on scripts to restore some functionality back to QuickTime X (mainly the preferences part of QuickTime).

I'm now trying to implement the "Recent Items" selection.
I almost have it all set up. It still won't make the selection though >_< The script won't open when I'm in QuickTime (via the script menu. all of the others open just fine. Have to run it from the AppleScript Editor to test it out). All of the individual Terminal commands work just fine though. Oh & there's an invalid connection with QuickTime apparently >_<

Poor Speeds for Entire Street Needs Fixed

Hi everyone, new to the forums and posting on behalf of BT Infinity users in my street and village in Inverallochy NE Scotland. Our exchange, Inverallochy was upgraded to fibre in November last year and ourselves along with a number of household in our street signed up to "super fast broadband". We thought we were alone when we failed to reach the BT Infinty speeds that we had been sold. We should get download 70 and upload 30. We have never achieved anything better than 40 and 7. We have had two engineer visits and a third scheduled for this Friday. 1st visit was a no show, 2nd was a very helpful engineer whom changed the master socket but said the fault was outside some where and he would have it fixed next day, that was two weeks ago, so after various follow up calls we have another visit this Friday. Through the power of social media however we discover that we are not alone in having the same issues within our street. Slow speeds and various engineer visits to households. The BT Openreach van has been here many times, but we are all still experiencing low speeds. Unfortunately we all feel that BT is not seeing the bigger picture in that we are all having issues and that there must be a common issue somewhere in our exchange or street cabinet. It is street cabinet 3. As much as we all felt that the BT helpline was initially helpful we all now feel that we are being fobbed off as we are not seeing any improvement. The reason for this post is to hopefully have someone collate all the issues at this exchange or cabinet and then do something about it. For me we are paying Infinty 2 prices but at best only getting Infinty 1 speeds, so I and the rest of my street should be getting refunded for this failure to provide the agreed service. one showing the speed when joined, one showing the speed a week after connection, third showing reduced speed following an engineer visit and the final one taken today that shows a massively reduced speed. albeit that when i checked the home hub is has speeds of 47 Up and 7 down. As you can see getting gradually and then suddenly worse. I'm a bit worried about the one i took today!

Update so that all apps are registered to my current apple ID from an email that is no longer valid. When I try and log into the old Apple ID I am told it has been 'locked for security reasons'

I have a very old apple ID that was used to install some of my first apps that I still use today such as Whats App. I cannot install updates for these apps because my apple ID is no longer operational and when I try and reset this apple ID I get an error message saying this apple ID has been blocked for security reasons. NB. I cannot reset using email verification as the email doesnt exist anymore and when I tried inputing my security questions I couldn't get past my birth questions and then got "you have too many failed attempts at verification...so this apple ID has been blocked".

The old Apple ID apps cannot be transferred to the new ID so you would be best to delete and download new.

For security questions reset, contact the country support number from http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57 and ask to speak with the Account Security Team.

Known working sites now blocked for security certifiates, needs fixed
