Hi, is there any way I can open my PCD files with Photoshop CS5 Ext. or Photoshop CC from all the Kodak Photo CD's I have??

Is it possible to convert Kodak Photo CD (PCD) files to DNG ??

I have hundreds of Kodak Photo CD and Pro Photo CD images and I would like to archive them all to Adobe DNG format. What is the best method? In Photoshop CS2 on a Mac G5 I can open the PCD files and save as TIFF, but I would prefer to archive in DNG. Ideas and comments appreciated.

RAW is demoasiced data. RAW processors are required to work with that data, basically convert it to bitmap. Want to open Kodak Photo CD files (.PCD) in Photoshop CS5. In CS4 i copied file "Photo CD.8BI" from an older version into the File Format folder. This does not work with CS5. Any fix?

I have several old Kodak Photo CD with PCD image files. I am now using Photoshop CS5. Some years ago while using Photoshop CS4 I copied a file: "Photo CD.8BI" from an older, CS2, version to the Plug-ins/File Format folder of CS4. This does not appear to work with CS5. Any fix?

It can be made to work, but you have to run the 32 bit version of Photoshop CS5, and as I recall there's an additional DLL called pcdlib32.dll that's needed from the old installation.

Can't open Kodak PCD files in Photoshop CS4

I can not open Kodak PCD files in Photohsop CS4, I do not have a diskof Photohsop CS3 or CS2 to copy Photo CD.8bi file. can anyone have idea form where I can download this plug-in so that I can open Kodak PCD file in Photohsop CS4. I am using windows 7.

People have been googling this. There are several free downloads that will open this type of file. Then just convert it into something like a jpg so photoshop can open it. Even Kodak no longer supports these files.

After downloading the PHSPCS3_Cont_WWE.exe, double click on it to extract the contents, probably to your desktop.
Then in the Goodies folder, Optional Plugins folder, you'll see the Kodak PhotoCD folder
Open that and copy the Photo CD.8BI to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11\Plug-Ins
Copy the profiles to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Profiles

How do I import Kodak Photo CD files into iphoto 09

I have a number of old Kodak Photo CD disks that use .pcd file format - how can I import these photos

You will need an application that can convert those pcd files into one that iPhoto supports, mainly jpeg. GraphicConverter is supposed to support many, many formats and might just support the pcd. If so you could use it to convert them to jpegs.
There's an automator workflow that I've put into an application that will take many image files and convert them into jpeg with the RGB color profile. I've never tried it on the Kodak files but you can give it a try. It's called +*Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile*+ and can be downloaded from Toad's Cellar. Make a copy of a couple of files and see if it will work. If so then you can batch convert folders of the files at once by dragging them onto the application.
I believe GC can do batch conversions but am not familiar with the application.

How do I convert Kodak PCD files in CS6?

I had some negatives scanned onto a Kodak Photo Cd as PCD files. CS2 used to handle them but CS6 does not. I could reinstall CS2 but wonder if there is an easier way.

Kodak dropped support for these disks and files years ago.

anyone any idea how to read Kodak PCD files in lightroom ? I can read these files in PS CS5 with a file from the " Goodies " box in CS3 !

pcdMagic converts to both TIFF and DNG, and has all the correct color profiles for Photo CD images built in, so the image color will be right without having to spend forever making adjustments: http://sites.google.com/site/pcdmagicsite/

Kodak Photo CD file format

Does anyone know if there is a way to open image files from the once so popular ( back in the '90's) Kodak Photo CD?

Back in them good ol' days, Photo CD was a great way to get reasonably good and cheap scans - and opening the files no problem.
What was once a newly invented and wonderful format has in less than fifteen years become obsolete, and my treasured photos remain in sharp digital form as ones and zeros, but apparently forever hidden. Like Egyptian hieroglyphs, they are super sharp, only we do not know what they mean.
My oldest Photoshop is CS2 which has a Photo CD plug-in, but will not open. Some open-source programs will open a reference file size 512 x 768 px, but not the large files.
Isn't there a museum guy out there who has had similar problem?

I was fiddling with 512 x 768 originally because of the high cost back 20 years , but, nevertheless, the result at the smaller size will do., well it will have to.. The Master Photo CD stands up pretty well on a SONY 55" HD monitor.
Thank you for your interest., we could be all dead at our age, I must hit the defrag button ? (Unless you are a young fellow and really with it). My son who is in high definition video production cannot believe the quality out of the old Ektachromes and Kodachromes ?
The color and sharpness was spot on , I was using a Canon A1 with an L Series Pro F1.2 55 mm lena in those days.

Import of Kodak Photo CD-format

How can I import files with extentions .pcd in Lightroom 1.1 from a Kodak Photo CD. In Photoshop CS3 (Windows XP), with the plugin "Photo CD.8BI", I have no problems to read such files.

PhotoCD is a dead format. Shame really as it was pretty good. Kodak however,
got greedy and wouldn't open it up and so it died. I would suggest you
convert your PCD images to TIF. I doubt that Lightroom will ever support it.

Kodak Photo CD conversion issues

The Kodak Photo CD seems to be obsolete these days, but I have a number of old Photo CDs from years ago, so I have an interest in converting the files to some other format in the best way possible. In trying to do so with Photoshop CS2, I've noticed some issues:
1. Highlights are washed out. This is not so bad when the highlights are in the sky and I just lose some cloud detail, but it's quite unpleasant when the highlights are in people's faces. When I try converting the files with Paint Shop Pro, results look somewhat inferior in other ways, but there's more detail in the highlights, so this seems to be a Photoshop problem.
2. Photoshop provides the option of 16-bit colour when importing from Photo CD, which looked good to me, so I used it. I've only just realized that, as far as I can tell, the Photo CD images contain only 8-bit colour information, so I've just been wasting space by saving large TIFF files with 16-bit colour. I wonder why Photoshop provides this useless option! Or does it have some purpose unknown to me?
Has anyone found a good way of converting Photo CD images that doesn't wash out the highlights?

Yes, I've seen the Ted Felix site, downloaded his DLL, and used it with Paint Shop Pro. Unfortunately, although it does preserve more of the highlights, in other respects the Photoshop conversion looks better.
As you say, it seems that it would be possible for an intelligent conversion tool to convert a standard PCD image to a TIFF with genuinely useful 16-bit colour. Unfortunately, no-one seems to have produced such a tool. I tried asking here just in case anyone has found a better solution than the ones I've tried.
I get the impression that Adobe merely bundles the conversion tool provided by Kodak without attempting to correct its defects or even to document it properly (the Photoshop help says very little about it).
Although PCD is more or less a dead format now, there must be lots of old Photo CDs at large in the world, and quite a few people interested in converting those images. I suppose most people innocently convert the images with whatever tool they have, and wrongly blame the PCD format itself for the imperfect results they get.

Recently, I was given several Kodak Photo cds ( yes, I belong to the century club) and was wondering if there is a way I can view them with CS3 or CS4 and if they can be viewed with Bridge.

If double-clicking in WinExplorer doesn't open the file, I think you're going to have to go to Kodak's web site and find viewer or converter software
Or maybe Google for a PCD plug-in for Photoshop
Hmm... just thinking out loud here... does the CD have an autorun?
I can't imagine that Kodak meant those CDs to only be viewed by the person who bought the software, so I would think there should be an autorun to start viewing software
But, again, I've never actually seen one, so that is only "theory" that may not match actuality

I can't upload from Kodak Photo CD 1992 directly. I have first to upload to iPhoto and from there File upload to Aperture. Is this normal?

Kodak Photo CD format

I have hundreds of Kodak Photo CD's which I built up by having my negatives scanned onto this format from the 90's and early 2000. I'd love to get these images into Aperture in their original format and have Aperture treat them like RAW files. Aperture doesn't support this format at the moment so the only way to import them is to use Photoshop and the Kodak Photo CD plug-in and then save the files as TIFF images. Messy and time consuming. It would be much easier to just pop the CD into my Mac Pro and have Aperture import them just like any camera-card.
I have requested this through the feedback form http://www.apple.com/feedback/aperture.html If like me you also have a stack of old Kodak Photo CD's that you'd like to manage in Aperture then use the form to request it that Aperture recognises the format, the more people who do this will mean Apple will look at adding this format.
Just how many people out there have images on this format?

This is another "long way" but you might want to try to use the program Graphic Converter included free with most Macs to change the Kodak format to one that Aperture recognizes. It is a powerful program that recognizes and converts many photo file formats. It can also be run in Batch mode (may take a while), and you can save the converted files on your HD for import to Aperture. Maybe less hassle than the iPhoto way.
