Kodak PhotoBook with PSE 8

I created a photobook, using  PSE 8. I go through the steps of ordering and get to the step where it is uploading the PSE file to Kodak. The system stalls, and says "Photoshop elements editor cannot access the internet, there may be a firewall from preventing it accessing the internet or there isn't an internet connection".
1. Has  anyone created a photobook, and been successful in uploading it for printing/ordering?
2. Has anyone else run into this problem and solved it?
I've changed browsers, disabled firewalls my account is active.   Any ideas would help.

Hey - here's an update.  I got past the problem by sending the photo book from my laptop that had PSE 7 installed.  The book sent without a hitch.
Therefore, the issue has been reduced to either PSE 8 or Win7 (my laptop is an XP machine).  I will check my internet security settings - but I
'm not sure where to start with that because I'm uploading and downloading stuff all the time without issue.  Seems like a strange and almost random issue.
It's not an issue of the computer "timing out" as such, because I watched the process the last two times, and the uploading bar went all the way across and only when it was finished (the computer didn't hibernate or sleep during that process) did it come back with an error.  The first page had been uploaded 94.7% and all the other pages 66.7%.
I'm still investigating.

  • ARC rendering of DNG Files of photos shot with the new Canon Powershot G16 with "PSE V10 + CR 6.4.1" and with "PSE V13 + CR 8.6"

Because (for reasons which  are not relevant to my questions):  I can not reasonably migrate to the newest PSE Versions and I am more or less stuck for a couple of years to the use PSE V10. I am therefore looking for a relatively efficient solution to process/edit (a small percentage) of the RAW Files of my new/future camera(s) with the combination of PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1 (according to my understanding PSE V10 does not support CR 8.6 – PSE V10 does not even allow me to import RAW Files of new cameras into the PSE catalog).
I was hoping that the DNG Converter could be a good solution for me. I was intending
to convert the RAW Files of my new camera (and of my future new cameras) with an up-to-date version of the DNG converter,
import the .dng Files into PSE V10
and then look-at (and then for some few of them: edit) the DNG Files with the combination of PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1.
However, I got recently the impression, that the only Camera Profile of CR 6.4.1 that renders reasonably well the DNG Files of my new Canon Powershot G16 compact camera is the “Adobe Standard” Camera Profile.  In my tests with the combination of PSE V10 and ACR 6.4.1, the rendering of these DNG Files with other CR 6.4.1 Profiles (e.g. the “Camera Faithful” Profile) is (regarding colors and brightness/contrast) really ugly and (for a non-expert  like me) more or less unusable (while  the rendering of the same DNG File with the “Camera Faithfull” Profile of the combination of CR 8.6 + PSE V13 is quite reasonable).
May I please ask the following questions to somebody who is familiar with DNG and CR?
Do my observations (i.e. ugly rendering of Canon Powershot G16 photos with the “Camera Faithful Profile” of ACR 6.4.1) correspond to what DNG experts should and are expecting?
What is the probable reason of the ugly rendering of the “Camera Faithful” Profile of CR 6.4.1? Does the DNG converter not include a G16-specific “Camera Faithful” profile in the DNG file?
Or do you think, that I made something wrong and that I am the one to blame for the ugly rendering with the “Camera Faithful” Profile used by CR 6.4.1? If that’s the case: what did I probably do wrong and what can I do better?
Do you think that with the combination of PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1, I will have similar problems with the DNG conversion of Raw files of future cameras like the follow-on to the Nikon D5300 or D7100 (which I will probably like to buy once available)? Or do you think that the problems that I encountered with the Powershot G16 photos are unlikely to happen with most other new camwras?A lot of thanks in advance for your answers.
In case you might wish to look at the typical rendering of one of my DNG Files (created with Version 8.6.0.254 of the DNG converter)  of a Canon Powershot G16 .cr2 photo, I uploaded at  https://www.dropbox.com/l/T3LJyZWkBZpcKkNe8S8ufr
    following screenshots:
rendering with PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1 with the “Adobe Standard” Camera Profile” – looks OK
rendering with PSE V10 and CR 6.4.1 with the “Camera Faithful” Profile – looks ugly.
I did not create screenshots of the ugly rendering by CR 6.4.1 with other Camera Formats..
rendering with PSE V13 and CR 8.6 with the “Adobe Standard” Camera Profile – looks OK
rendering with PSE V13 and CR 8.6 with the “Camera Faithful” Profile – looks OK
screenshot of the unedited jpg. File created by the camera - looks OK

Thank You very much to all of You: in alphanumerical  sequence to 99jon, to R Kelly and to ssprengel. You spoiled me with the Information in your answers. Thank You very much for it.
Based on your answers I will first try the probably simplest solution: the download of ACR 6.7.
If that will not work for me, I will try/investigate  something else, that, if I interpret your suggestions correctly is the following: create with the combination of PSE 13 and ACR 8.6 profiles that I will try to use with the combination of PSE 10 and ACR 6.7 or 6.4. That is an idea that I was not at all aware of and that I owe to you.
All that is quite new to me, and I can therefore imagine that I will come back to you and ask for detailed suggestions or directions.
A Detail: it is on the same machine / same Windows-occurence that I have installed the combination of "PSE V10 + ACR 6.4" and the combination of "PSE V13 and ACR 8.6".
    1) The main reason why I can not use for my main real-life "productive" PSE Catalog the combination of "PSE V13 and ACR 8.6" is the lack of Support of/by the 32-bit mode "KODAK Digital ROC Professional" Filter/Plug-in in a PSE V13 Environment.  I need and will need that filter for a couple of years for the retouching/restoration of thousands  scanned Versions of my old slides that have a strong color-cast.  I am also using the 32-bit mode "Kodak Digital GEM Professional" Filter for a strong noise reduction in the scanned Versions of my old slides (but I can imagine, that I could find good 64-bit mode alternatives to the GEM Filter).
    2) In addition I have with the V12 and V13 PSE Editors,  for a lot of my photos files, problems with the wrong Dates/Times assigned by the V12/V13 PSE Editors to new file containing a new/edited version of my  Foto files.....
But these 2 previous items are other stories/problems  that I would like and shoud keep separate.
Thank You again for your wonderfull help.

  • Printing with PSE 8 for Mac

    Hi,
hope some of you may give me some help.
Have tried to print with PSE 8 for Mac, but in the printing options there is none where i can choose the type of paper (ie: glossy, premium glossy....).
My printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 1400.
It works fine with iPhoto, here i can choose paper type. And prints come out fine.
    Thanks for any advice,
    dangerly

My printer is a Canon so not entirely sure if this helps but when I print from PSE 8 I do not get to choose the media type until I have clicked on the print button in the PSE dialog box. I am then presented with the dialog box for my printer where I can set the media type amongs other attributes.
It is normal for the media type to be the job of the printer driver so perhaps it is the same for your printer.

  • IPhoto 08 with PSE 4.0

I recently upgraded to Leopard and then also got iLife 08. I am a digital scrapbooker and use Photoshop Elements 4.0 in connection with iPhoto on my MacBook Pro. My question relates to iPhoto closing when I try to copy a picture into PSE . . . not sure why it closes and getting frustrated. Checked the Adobe site and found a PSE updater but can't install it . . . what's a girl to do?

    AnnaRobyn:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. How are you opening the photos with PSE?
    For what it's worth:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.
What version of PSE are you running and what happened when you tried to run the Adobe Photoshop Elements Updater application?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Opening an image with PSE 11

When i try to open an image in PSE 11 from Windows explorer by choosing "right click" - "open with Pse 11" the editor starts but does not open any file.  This was not the case in previous versions of Photshop Elements.  Any idea why this behaviour?
    ..Bjorn

    Solved.
After PSE11 installation the image files would open automatically with "Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.exe" and not
"PhotoshopElementsEdtor.exe"  I changed file association to the correct program and it works fine.
I have been running PSE sins since version 06 but first time i can reon. having to do this change.
(Raw files however open correctly even pointing to the  "Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.exe" no change necessary)
    Thanks for Your help

  • Problems with PSE 10 when saving for the web.

I'm having problems saving for web with PSE 10. I edit in RAW, edit in PSE 10, save as Jpeg, resize and save for the web.  Results are muddled and not sharp (looks cartoonish). Also, there is no metadata when you look at the image properties.  I uninstalled the program and installed again. No change.

Are you resizing the photo before save for web?
What settings are you using in the save for web dialog for the jpeg quality?
If you compress the jpeg too much (low quality settings below 60), that can make your photos look bad.
And save for the web in pse 10 automatically strips any metadata in order to keep the file sizes smaller.
Also, the save for web in pse 10 has a bad habit of not remembering your last used settings, so it's good to verify that your actually set to jpeg instead of the default GIF setting.

  • ACR 5.7 not compatible with PSE 6 or 7

Though the recently released ACR 5.7 works with PSE 8, it is not compatible with PSE 6 or 7.  A number of people (including me) have observed that if you try to open a raw file in 6 or 7 you get:
Unable to use the Camera Raw plug-in. It is not compatible with this version of Photoshop Elements.
The accompanying documentation is an inconsistent mess about which versions are supported, variously implying that it works with 6 or later, 7 or later, or just 8:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4685
This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Adobe® Creative Suite® 4, Adobe Photoshop® CS4, Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 and Premiere® Elements 8 software.
The Camera Raw 5.7 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS4, versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 6.0, or versions of Premiere Elements earlier than 4.0.
The latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in available for Photoshop Elements 6.0 (Windows) is Camera Raw 5.5.
This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed with Adobe Creative Suite 4, Photoshop CS4, Photoshop Elements 7.0 or 8 and Premiere Elements 7.0 or 8.

I agree with John,  there is certainly a mess and confusion
over the use of ACR 5.7 with PSE 7.  I have tried to upgrade and got various error messages including the version incompatibility one. I did try both the 32 and 64 bit versions since I am running Windows 7 64 bit.  However I have now reached a slightly different opinion since I am still able to open Raw files from my Canon G10 (which previously worked with 5.6) but cannot open my EOS 550D Raw files which suggests a specific code problem rather than a version incompatibility.  Any comments or help Adobe?

  • Problems with PSE 11 and Filter Forge

Is anyone else having problems launching Filter Forge from PSE 11?  It used to work, but now freezes after a very partial load.  FF still works with PSE 9, and yes, I have the latest version of PSE 11 installed on a 64-bit version of Win 7 Pro.

I did not use the trial version of PSE 7 but installed directly from a purchased CD.  The "registration" option under the help menu of the editor is not highlighted and there is no option to deactivate the serial number under help in either the editor or the organizer.  Therefore I must assume that Ankush is correct that there is nothing that I need to do prior to uninstalling PSE 7.
Also, am I correct to assume that since this original post was marked as a discussion and not a question, I do not need to close it in any way?
Thanks to all who have responded and offered assistance.

  • Certificate with PSE type SystemPSE has been invalid for 9 days

    Hi,
I am seeing the above message in my ERP system transaction SM21 along with Validity of certificate from list with PSE type >SystemPSE< ends in 5 days message.
I have seen several notes and SDN threads on this and have replaced the PSE etc.  However, when I download a new verify.der file from the Portal, it still shows a valid to date of September 29, 2007.
How do I change the valid to date to something other than what has already expired?

  • Using kodak C360 with Iphoto

Has anyone used the Kodak C360 with Iphoto? The camera is not on the "approved" apple list, but it seems some people in the discussions have still had luck with some cameras working.
    Thanks

    appledesire:
I don't think it will work with iPhoto even if you use a card reader since it uses the Smart Digital memory card. It seems that support of that card format has slipped based on all of the users reporting problems with cameras using that type of card.

  • Consistently size employee photos with PSE 9

I have PSE 9 and would like to use it to consistently size all employee photos for ID badges.  For example, after taking the employee’s picture, it would be uploaded/dragged into PSE and cropped appropriately, then saved at the ideal size.  Overtime, this would involve hundreds of photos so it’s important that all photos be consistently sized for importation to the ID badge application and to use with Outlook email active directory.  Years ago this was accomplished by creating a template in Photoshop, which I do not have. Can this be done with PSE and if so, can someone provide instructions. I’m new to this…  Thanks

Thank you.  I'm looking more at bringing in the raw image and crop accordingly.  I want each photo when all is said and done to be the same size.  For example, I take photos of a new employee today for ID badge purposes.  I import the raw image into PSE, crop, save as a jpeg, and upload into the ID badge program.  Tomorrow, I take another photo of a new hire employee and repeat the steps.  Next week we get new employees and repeat the process.  I would like to develop a process that would consistently make the cropped employee photos uniform each and every-time.

  • Unable to open RAW files with Samsung TL350 with PSE 8.0

I have tried downloading camera raw 6.3 which seems to be the right upgrade, but I have trouble opening it. I even installed the adobe download manager 1.5. I have windows XP with service pack 3 and 1GB RAM,Intel Core (TM)2 CPU [email protected] processor.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you

Unfortunately, you can't use 6.3 with PSE 8, only with PSE 9. 6.2 is the last update that's compatible with PSE 8. If that doesn't support your camera, you can try downloading the standalone DNG converter part of the 6.3 update and see if PSE 8 will recognize the DNG files from your camera, or else use the Samsung conversion software and then open the converted file in PSE for further editing.

  • How Do I Free-hand Cut an Object Out of a Pic With PSE 8?

I want to completely free-hand cut a horse out of one pic and then save it into another pic with a different background. I can't figure out how to do this with PSE 8. It is my first time using this program. The only picture editing program I have used before was Microsoft Picture It (v.7 from 2003 I believe), and it had a cool multi-selection cutout tool that included free-hand cutting. It worked perfectly for my needs, so I'm pretty frusterated that I can't seem to figure out how to do the same thing now that I have PSE 8. Can anyone advise me on this please? I'd sure appreciate the help. Thanks!

You need to select the horse. Use one of the selection tools. In PEv.8 there is the magic extractor (Image>magic extractor), and also the selection brush, which I find works very well. The lasso tools should also work well for you. Once you have selected the horse, you can copy/paste it to your new background.
If you post the picture, either here, or at www.pixentral.com (provide the URL so that we can access it), we can provide detailed step-by-step guidance.

  • Why isn't camera raw 8.3 compatible with PSE 11?

I'm furious and want to know who to complain to. Less than one year ago I purchased PSE 11 which is what I needed for it to work with my Nikon D7100, also less than a year old. I have just purchased a Nikon D610 and it seems I need to downlaod Camera Raw 8.3 but it doesn't seem to work with PSE 11. When I check the adobe site it appears that I need PSE 12! How can this be when my software is less than one year old!! Is it adobe money grabbing again? Are there any plans to add support for RAW photos taken on the Nikon D610, which after all is only a very minor change to the Nikon D600, to PSE 11? If not why not????

Here is why (one of the most read faqs in this forum, where you don't speak to Adobe, it's a user to user forum):
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1030798?tstart=0

    http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family/topics/why_doesnt_my_version_of_photoshop_o r_lightroom_support_my_camera-17cz5b
So, to summarize, you have to use the free Adobe DNGconverter as described in the first link.
