Kodak pictures in Front Row??

Does anyone know how i would get pictures from my Kodak Easyshare folder(s) into...where-ever...so when i bring up Front Row i can slideshow them? It says something about "shared photos"...and that their's none in my local network. So i tried putting an alias (are alias and copy the same thing basically...without taking up the room of "copying" the files?) of my "Kodak Pictures" folder in my "network" location but it says "unexpected error -61". So...in short...can anyone give me step by step instructions please???! I'm pretty new to Mac...still learning...i need all the help i can get!
THANKS!

Macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

BUT of course i don't have my entire hard drive for
pictures...songs, apps, etc. Before i go getting rid
of Kodak all together...can i do EVERYTHING with
iphoto as i can with Kodak (refer to ealier post)??
Like i said before...print to my dock?? What is so
great about iphoto (the whole Front Row thing
aside)?...i would like to know because if it is the
case i would have no problem using it. Definitely
would make life easier.
iPhoto is great for many reasons. It looks great, it has some very powerful editing functions, though it's never difficult to use, and if you've used iTunes, you'll be very comfortable with the iPhoto interface in a very short space of time; it's basically iTunes for photos. As I mentioned above, it integrates well with the other iLife apps. If you're making a DVD in iDVD, or a movie in iMovie, all your photos will be available right from within that application for you to use. The bottom line is, Apple are better at making Mac software than Kodak!
But don't take my word for it, take the iPhoto quicktour. Or better yet, open it up, import some photos (which as far as I know doesn't change the quality) and play around with it. See how you do the things you normally use Easyshare for. My father has an Easyshare printer, and I'm almost certain that you can print from iPhoto with it; but, as I say, give it a go yourself.
It's your Mac, and so the only important thing is how easily you can do the things you want to do, but don't be afraid to try some new things out. You're not going to break anything! (probably)

  • Front Row for pictures is useless to me!

I bought my mac mini to use as a media center, to stream and play eveything from my iMac G5 through the mini connected to my 32" LCD TV. Everything streams fine except photos. Most of the time the slideshow won't work, or after a long hesitation it shows one picture and then just keeps playing the Minuet in G. If I quit out of Front Row and go to iPhoto on the mini, many of the shared pics from the iMac only appear as empty spces with a grey dotted line around them. Sometimes if I click on a space, the pic will fill in, sometimes not.
And that **** music! WHYYYYY can't Front Row do as my iPod does, and go with the option to use music from iPhoto, so that once I have set up an album's slideshow music on my iMac, that carries over to both my iPod as well as through Front Row? I don't want to have to reset music choices everytime I wanna show friends some photos on the TV. iPhoto does not stream the music from the shared photo albums, so if you don't have any music stored on the mini, I am left with Garage Band samples or the Minuet in G.
Finally, Front Row does not seem to be able to read and hold the slideshow preferences for a shared album. Even if I take the time to go into iPhoto and make settings, it will still eventually revert back to the Ken Burns effect.
And here's a thought..what if I just wanna look at a picture through Front Row? I have to start and then pause a slideshow just to look at one pic?
With all this, it's just too frustrating to use for photos.

Although I do all of my picture imports to iPhoto on my MacBook, once a week I connect my MacBook in FireWire Target Disk Mode to my iMac and I copy the whole library over to the iMac. I do the same thing with iTunes. Although I only use my portable computer to manage everything, I copy all of my files over to the iMac. My iMac is connected to the TV and I use Front Row on the iMac to display the picture and music libraries directly from there.
So, your statement shouldn't be "Front Row for pictures is useless to me!", rather it should be "Front Row for shared pictures is useless to me!". This might be a valid statement and there may be things we can help to tweak your settings, but you're right. For the most part shared libraries (pictures or music) are not ideal in Front Row. I would recommend you get a FireWire cable and use your Mac mini as a backup for your iMac's libraries.
Since Front Row will be included with Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) when it's released later this year, you probably want your Front Row to work now. So, waiting for an update to Front Row probably is not a good option right now.

  • Why do I get a black screen in front row when watching some iTunes store purchases? esp Cars 2

We bought Cars 2 a few months ago from the iTunes store. The movie won't work in Front Row, we only get a black screen (except for the blue Front Row controls at the bottom) although the audio comes through just fine. The annoying part is all of our other iTunes store movies work fine in Front Row. Just Cars 2 is broken. I don't think that it is an authorisation problem because it plays okay in iTunes, Quicktime, even via airplay to an appleTV or via Home Sharing to our iPad.
The movie is only standard definition so I am guessing that it is not an HDCP issue; I understand that there is only HDCP on HD movies. We are playing it on a Mac Mini (core 2 duo) on a Sony Bravia via a VGA connector.
After a little bit of complaining, apple let us download the movie again in case the file was corrupted, but unfortunately the same problem with the new version.
The computer did have Perian installed at one point, but uninstalling and restarting made no difference.
I have found lots of reports of movies with missing picture in Front Row but these are all ripped videos, never with an iTunes Store purchase.
Apple won't refund our money as the purchase was more than 60 days ago by the time I gave up troubleshooting and reported the problem.

Yeah! Problem solved: It's a QT issue.
Cause: Mac Update Software downloaded a faulty QT.
Solution: Download QT from Apple's QT site.
Great to have the Video back

  • Two problems with Front Row

    Hello.
I have all my music on my iMac and I am streaming it to my Mac Mini connected to my TV and stereo. What I have noticed is that the cover art on my music tracks don't show when I play any of the shared tracks or playlists, just the default picture with the two notes. Is there something I can do that will display it? I have tried to start iTunes and connect the shared library there before starting Front Row but that didn't help.
I also have a problem with listing my pictures in Front Row. I have an external drive connected to my Mini that has all my pictures and movies. I have no trouble playing the movies (I created an alias in the Movies catalog to the Movies catalog on the external drive), but if I create an alias in the Pictures catalog to the Pictures catalog on the external drive the catalog isn't shown in Front Row. Do I have to import all the pictures into iPhoto? I don't use iPhoto at all because I always use the program that came with my Nikon camera that shows all the picture information, such as focal length, what lens I used, white balance setting, etc. (or Adobe Photoshop Elements it I want to make some changes). Is there something I can do to fix this too?
    Thanks,

Bernd, since your comp is still under warranty you may wish to give the online tech support a try -->HERE<--</a>. Click on the "Chat with a support agent" link.
If you don't want to go that route, then I suggest that you call them over the phone. Hopefully, you have the AppleCare Protection Plan if your 90 day warranty ran out.

  • Kiosk with Front Row???

Is it possible to create a Kiosk app using Front Row?
I want the ability to allow the user to start various websites (on localhost) from a Kiosk interface. Hopefully the user is then locked out of the main HD directories....
    Any help/direction appreciated.

Front Row doesn't open Web sites. It will help you browse the pictures from Front Row, DVD movies, music and videos from iTunes and video files in your "Movies" folder.

  • Front row annoyance

Hey, I have a 2.0GHz White MacBook, with 1GB of RAM (not sure what difference that makes, but I might as well say it). Front Row has been pretty cool, works flawlessly and looks really nice. However, when viewing a movie, and JUST THAT, after I'm done viewing it, and exit out of Front Row, I see iTunes has launched in my dock. I never even went to the iTunes icon in Front Row, just the Movies, watched a movie, and left. Yet iTunes launched for some strange reason. I have duplicated this dozens of times, so I know it's not just some one time thing.
Any suggestions/ideas? I'd appreciate it, thanks.

You've got it in one. If you look at your pictures in
Front Row, you'll see that iPhoto has opened. Front
Row is just a frontend for various apps.
You need to upgrade to Quicktime Pro in order to play
fullscreen video using Quicktime, so Front row uses
    iTunes to play video.
Don't ask me why Apple's video app doesn't play
fullscreen video, but their music app does!
Yeah, I knew that Front Row had to open certain apps to do things, but I didn't realize it was the irritating limitations set on Quicktime. That explains it then, thanks a bunch.

  • No pictures load on Front Row

I can do everything with Front Row, except access my pictures on iPhoto. Any ideas?

Thanks, I will take a look at your thread. An update in my case: iPhoto wouldn't load at all. The error I got was something about a problem with permissions. I tried to rebuild the directory / repair permissions with Disk Warrior, but after that, my MacBook's hard drive just died. It wouldn't even mount, so there was no way I could try to repair it. I had planned to do a fresh re-install, since I used the same 10.5 DVD to install to my iMac, and have had no problems with this photo issue. I will get a new MacBook hard drive, reinstall, and see if the permissions / dying hard drive was the issue. I'll let you know what I find out.

  • MBP Clamshell Mode - DVI to TV Adapter - Front Row Works - But No Video?

    Hi all,
Have picked up an Apple DVI to TV adapter for my MB Pro. Have successfully got it to work in clamshell mode displaying Front Row on the TV without the external Mouse or keyboard.
However, it will not play videos or movies on the TV.
If I keep the lid open, it will play the video/movie on both displays as hoped. However, when I close the lid, all other Front Row stuff works - but no video picture! Is this some sort of overlay issue? How can I fix this? I do NOt want to burn my LCD when using it this way - would be a waste.
    Please pass on any thoughts!
    Thanks,
    Stu

I also have this exact same problem. A little annoying since I have just spent $A35 on the mini dvi to dvi adapter and another $A50 on a good quality DVI cable. My LCD tv is set to millions of colors so that is not the issue.
I have a 2.0Ghz Core2Duo Macbook. A quick google search If anyone knows how to fix it I'd be very grateful.

  • Apple control - Front Row takes a long time to open through the Menu Butto?

I am using a ManMini as a HTPC. Front Row is being used as my Media Choice. When I click the Menu Button Front Row may not open or it may take a very longtime to activate.
    lister

If you use the Accounts System Preferences to create a brand new user, log out and log in as the new user, how long does it take the new user to open Front Row with the remote? If it's just as slow, you have a system-wide issue. If Front Row opens quickly for the new user, then your original user may have a movie, song or picture that's taking a long time for your Front Row to access. Let us know what you find out from this troubleshooting step.

  • Big Mini Trouble with DVD and Front Row

    Set-Up
I am trying to use my mac mini as a media centre connected to a 42" sharp aquos 1080HD, for sound i use a 5.1 bose speaker set-up, which is irrelevant to my problem, but the mac interfaces with a yamaha rxv661B 7.1 channel digital home theatre receiver, via DVI to HDMI and sound through head phone to RCA set-up that will soon be upgraded to optical. All connected to the appropriate DVD channels on the recevier, video goes to the TV via HDMI. My set-up has no DVD player other than the super drive on the mac mini, the only other input is a Bell ExpressVu 9200 PVR.
    My Problem
    1. Playing DVDs the brightness on the picture fluctuates in a very regular wave like pulse. What am I doing wrong?
    2. Front Row Crashes the computer whenever I try to access any of the movie files. The files play fine when accessed directly or through itunes but crash the system in front row. DVDs play, and the online movie clips play, and music and picture content are no problem.
Any help would be much appreciated
As an aside does anyone know if youtube will be available to non Apple-TV front row users, as well?
    Mini 1.83   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   12" Powerbook G4

Everything is plugged into a three pronged plug using a relatively sophisticated surge protecting power bar, but you may be on to something, the power bar has a light to indicate if it is properly grounded and that has not lit up since its been in use, perhaps the outlet isn't properly grounded, I live in a recently renovated 100yr old home.
As for the files they are a mixture of mpg, mov and a number of m4v (that might be my postal not a file format) I mean the ipod format, a lot of the video files I produce I put directly into the ipod ready format.

  • Is there any way to change the screen resolution in Front Row?

    Hi all,
I've got a Mac Mini plugged in to my TV, and I want to be able to change the screen resolution depending on the content I'm watching (as some content is in 4:3 aspect ratio, some is in 16:9, and I'd prefer to have the picture filling the screen completely). Unfortunately, the TV doesn't have a "stretch" mode for making an 4:3 picture fit a 16:9 aspect ratio. If I know what I want to watch in advance, I can set the resolution accordingly using system prefs on the mac, but if I'm just sitting back choosing what to watch with the Apple Remote, it's annoying to have to leave front row, walk over to the computer and change resolution once I've decided what to watch, open system prefs, change resolution, re-launch Front Row and find what I wanted to watch again.
So I was wondering if anyone had figured a way to allow the screen resolution to be switched from within the FrontRow UI. I've seen that people have written python based plug-ins such as PyeTV and Understudy that allow different types of content to be added to FrontRow, but I've not found any utility plug-ins such as what I'm looking for on the net (nor could I find SDK documentation on this API in the stuff that comes with XCode).
I guess the other approach might be quick keys: has anyone had any success hooking up quick keys macros alongside front row in response to apple remote events? (seems too few events to be able to choose from, but I've never tried it, so I won't assume!) Or how about is there a way to trigger an AppleScript from within Front Row? And, of course, I'm very open to any other ideas you might have!
Thanks very much in advance for any ideas on this.

  • Mac Mini, Front Row and projection TV?

I am wondering whether our plan to get a new MacMini with Front Row to be the heart of our entertainment system is a good idea. We want to use the Mac as our DVD player and stereo (music) source. We also want to get a fairly high resolution projector (like the ones used for presentations) instead of a TV, probably for ~ $1500.
We saw a projection setup at a friend's house (not with Mac, just used for TV) and it was fabulous to watch a basketball game in giant size on their white wall. They could switch from letterbox format to regular TV size display at the push of a button. The picture was very clear.
Our new house will also have a large wall space available. Has anyone done this kind of setup? What words of wisdom, advice, or warning do you have in terms of the setup or the type of projector to get?
considering new MacMini Intel   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Considering getting a Mac Mini to be the heart of our home entertainment system.

I too have the latest mini, hooked up to a Denon receiver via pass-through HDMI.
I am not an audiophile in terms of setting up this stuff and just want to know what I need to do to get the optimum performance out of this mini, audio wise.
When I go to Audio MIDI Setup app, my receiver (DENON-AVAMP) is listed next to the "source" button. I have no clue about channels, bits, etc. When I click on the "Configure Speakers" button I am presented with different configurations so I selected "Multichannel" versus "Stereo". And I can see where you can test all 5 speakers and subwoofer, but I just don't know which "format" I am supposed to select.
The 5.1 mapping is shown when I select 8 channel/16 bit, 8 channel/20 bit, or 8 channel 24 bit. I can click on each speaker in this map and it tests properly no matter which one of the above combinations I select. Just not sure which one I am supposed to be using.
All I know is my Denon is a 5.1 system and all this works perfectly (getting 5.1 sound) with my Playstation 3 hooked up the same way to the Denon.
Does anybody know the correct settings to output 5.1 sound from this Mac Mini?
    Thanks guys!

  • Problems with new MacBook Pro when using Front Row

I posted this in the MacBook Pro forum, but someone suggested I post it here, so here goes...
I just picked up a new 15" MacBook Pro 2.4 last night. I was very excited, as I've wanted one for a while now, but when I tried to watch a dvd in Front Row a few strange things happened that I've never seen anyone post about on this board.
First, when I selected play from the DVD's menu, Front Row quit. I launched it again and everything seemed fine as the dvd was now playing, but then I noticed that the backlit keyboard would light up and turn off every minute or two. This went on for the whole time I was watching the disc... about a couple of hours... the keys would light up then they'd be unlit and then light up again.
Finally, while I was watching the dvd the screen went blank... there was still audio, but no picture to go along with it. After I touched the trackpad the video came back. This happened a couple of times.
I don't think it should matter, but I'll also mention that I was using the MacBook Pro on battery while all this happened.
So, has anyone else experienced these issues? I tried looking through all the posted topics, but couldn't find anything related to my experience with Front Row. I'm debating on whether I should exchange my MacBook Pro as I may just have a lemon.
If anyone has any advice/tips I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

I would be curious to know if the same kinds of things happen when you are using the AC power? It's possible that the ambient light was just at the point where the keyboard backlight would turn on and different parts of the movie would make it just light or just dark enough to turn the backlight on or off...

  • Using my TV for Front Row

First of all, apologies if this question has been asked before. I did search for it, but couldn't find it anywhere.
I have an iMac on my desk, and right next to my desk I have a 32" Samsung HD TV (Model No: LE32C450). As I don't have a DVD player for my TV, I was wondering if there was any way that I could connect my iMac to my TV for watching movies using Front Row? And before anyone says it, I know I could just buy a DVD player for like £20, but I wouldn't just be using this for DVDs.
Now, I'm not all that good with the technical side of stuff, such as which cables and adapters I'd need, or if I'd need any special software and things like that. My iMac has a Mini DisplayPort, and my TV has 3 HDMI slots, and according to the manual for the TV, one of them is DVI.
I know it's possible to use a TV as a monitor, but would it work for what I want? The iMac doesn't seem to have an Audio Out slot, so I guess I couldn't use my TV's speakers? And would the resolution be good enough for things like movies? I believe the TV is 720p (so not full HD) if that makes any difference. Basically, I don't want to spend money on this if the picture and/or sound are going to be poor.
Sorry for such a long question, but any help would be much appreciated. If you need any more info, just ask and I'll do my best.
    Thanks

Actually, it's a little more complicated than Kappy suggests. "Pairing" the remote means only ONE remote will control the device that's been paired. However, that same remote will still control other devices. So, unless you have two remotes and can pair each one with one device (computer & Apple TV), one device will still receive stray commands.
If you do have two remotes, then pair one to the Apple TV and the other to the MacBook. Then they won't get confused. Pairing a remote with the Apple TV does NOT appear in Mac OS X help at least not in either Mac I checked. However, pairing a remote with a computer does:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.5/en/8993.html
Pairing your remote with the Apple TV:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1555
If you only have one remote, in the MacBook's Security System Preferences, check on the option to disable the built-in IR receiver. With the receiver off, the MacBook won't react to any signals from the Apple TVs remote.
