Kodak Printer can't install on Mountain Lion
I'm trying to set up my Nehalem and just installed OS v.10.8.2. I have a Kodak printer 6150 that is USB connected, but I can't use the software that came with it because it says my security settings won't allow any software to be installed outside that which is purchase from the App Store. The software is not on the list. I went to security setting in the System preferences and I don't see any remedies there. Help!
You can Control-click (or right click if you have it enabled) on the Kodak installer and select Open from the menu that appears. A message will appear stating that it is not signed but you can click OK to continue with the installation.

Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later

To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Open Disk Utility and verify the drive is partitioned using GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled. If it is then do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Now try installing Mountain Lion. -

I have recently purchased a MacBook Air with Mountain Lion installed on it. I would like to do some development back and forth from PC to Mac, and in some cases, it would be very convenient to do some work on my PC instead. Is it legal to install a Mountain Lion VM on my PC? If so, how can I do it using the Mountain Lion installed on my Mac?

However, you can run Mountain Lion on a virtual machine in your MacBook Air if you want. Parallels and VMware Fusion allows you to use Recovery HD in order to install Mountain Lion on a virtual machine, so you should consider the option -

You can't.
Mountain Lion is the operating system of the computer - it isn't in the accounts, the accounts are in it.
The only way to achieve something like what you describe would be to parition the computer into two seperate drives and install a different operating system on each partition. That would also mean that changing accounts would require rebooting the computer and changing the startup partition / operating system / account. Which is unlikely to be what you want.
I think you and sister need to come to an agreement about which OS to use, be it ML or something earlier. What are her reasons for not wanting to switch? Perhaps you can convince her. -

Well, the hard disk has been replaced and the Apple people replaced but innstalled the older OS (
X Lion 10.7)! So I tried to reinstall the newer OS which from App Store under Purchases but I had the problem I stated earlier: This copy of the Install OS X Mountain Lion application can't be verified. How do I install custom printer profiles in Mac os mountain lion. I can't find the icc profiles directory (if that's what it is).
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. You'll need to do it again after each system update that's applied.

I have an older MacBook Pro that I'm selling. I upgraded to Mounbtain Lion, but there was not an option to do a clean install (wiping everything clean and starting fresh). I want to do this to make sure all of my data is removed before I sell it. How can I do a clean install of Mountain Lion in order to accomplish this? In the past, from DVDs, it was easy. Thanks!

That was only OK when you bought the Upgrade DVD and included both the original system discs and the disc you used to upgrade the OS.
Since Apple has now gone to the Download only model of OS X you now always need to install the Original OS or an Upgraded version that you have the DVD disc for.
If a Mac came with Leopard and you upgraded to Snow Leopard and then to Lion or Mt Lion you must remove Lion or Mt Lion and reinstall either Leopard or Snow Leopard and include all the discs for that system, Originals and the Upgrde Snow Leopard DVD.
If your system came Snow Leopard and you installed Lion or Mt Lion thenn again you remoeve Lion or Mt Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard and include the original discs that came with the system
If your system came with Lion and you upgraded to Mt Lion then you remove Mt Lion and reinstall Lion.
The reason for all of that is because with the Download only OS all upgrades are TIED to YOUR Apple ID, not to the computer. So the new owner can not reinstall Lion or Mt Lion, whichever you upgraded to, without using your Apple ID. -

I backed up my entire hard-drive of my macbook pro - just prior to installing osx mountain lion.
I put everything into a folder on my desktop - then backed it up onto an external drive. Once this was done - i deleted the folder off my desktop - and following this - things started to go all weird...pages hanging, the coloured 'wheel of death' appeared for ages. So i had to employ a 'hard-boot' restart - as i had not other options.
I'm pretty sure i made copies of of files/apps/folders etc - however not so sure now as i cant even start up my laptop!!!
Can somebosy please help me urgently??!!!Got the exact same problem, and I also did this operation many times before, from 500Gb to 750Gb, and then from 750Gb to 1 Gb. Not My HD got a little such complaining about bad sectors when in windows bootcamp, but still runs fine though.
So I bought a new 1Gb drive exactly same drive as the one thats getting sick. I did the clone thing, with super duper, CCC, DU, but no matter it will not boot when i move the new drive inside the macbook…….**** thing exuse me, but wasted so much time.
Now I get this strange feeling that something must have changed in the macbook itself. Just wondering if this could be a EFI "mac bios" prevention thing, they made just to sell more new computers, when you can't improve or fix your old one.
If so, then its pretty scary. If not then I simply can't figure out why this suddenly becomes a problem for so many people, as I see so many posts about this!!

Stuck in a limbo: can't install Safari or Lion/Mountain Lion, can't access App Store
If someone would take up this challenge and attempt to solve it with me, I would appreciate it! I have troubleshooted for 2 days now to no avail.
This is what happened:
1) I accidentally installed Safari 6.0, even if I have Lion 10.7. which doesn't run the new version
2) This disabled my use of Safari and my access to App Store
3) With a combination of AppDelete + Pacifist I tried deleting all Safari files, and re-installing old Safari 5.4 from scratch.
I rebooted, repaired permissions and did a disk check.
4) Rebooted again, tried to open the newly installed Safari, but it gives an error:
"Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X."
5) At this point I thought to revert back to a previous point in Time Machine. Unfortunately all the points in Time Machine somehow showed Safari 6.0 (even a month-old points), so reverting back to an old point didn't help.
6) I try logging into AppStore to upgrade to Mountain Lion, but I can't do that, since it needs Safari to run and I don't have a Safari anymore!
7) Now I tried re-installing Lion from restart + cmd+R, and it asked for Apple ID to start the installation.
--> At this point I am getting desperate, as this computer was purchased second-hand, so I don't have the Apple ID used to install Lion!
8) I try searching for Apple's official support, but obviously my warranty has expired, besides it's based in another country so they can only call cellphones from that country!
So I cannot enter App Store; reinstall Safari; reinstall Lion; or upgrade to Mountain Lion. I have no access to Apple official support. I currently work in a developing country with limited access to any MAC support.
I don't know what to try anymore!
- How can I enter App Store without Safari?
- How can I reinstall Lion without the original Apple ID?
- How can I upgrade to Mountain Lion without App Store?

I finally managed to download the newest combo update and installed it successfully!
However Safari still doesn't open. It keeps saying the following:
Check with the developer to make sure Safari works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
I also finally got access to App Store: but the download of Mountain Lion doesn't complete, because it seems to need Safari.
So I'm still stuck with the two issues:
i) Safari doesn't work, and I can't get it to work unless I can reinstall/upgrade the OS.
ii) I can't upgrade the OS without Safari!
--- unless someone knows a way to install Lion/Mountain Lion _without_ Safari??

because it was a demo laptop when i bought it i was trying to update my app it was asking for user id password i gave my apple id but it says like this id is not valid i think it was reg in different id when i bought so that the reason i bought new Mac OS but in my lap i already lion has pre installed so that the reason i was keep pending

I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 installed. For me to use XCode 4.5, I must have 10.7 or later. What is the best way to go ahead? Should I install OS X Lion and then move to Mountain Lion, or can I straight away install latest Mountain Lion, i.e. 10.8.2
You can directly install Mountain Lion 10.8.0 to 10.6.8, and then apply the 10.8.2 Update.
