KODAK Pro PHOTO CD support

I have been happily moving my photos into LR and I've been very pleased so far. I have gone through all my digital photos (from cameras). Today I went to start importing my photos from film. Most of my stuff was scanned many years ago to PhotoCD for Kodak. I discovered that LR will not read the files. Even iPhoto can import form PhotoCD.
I know I can open them in PS and save them out as JPG then import them into LR, but with sixty some odd disks that would be a big pain in the a**.

I should point out, in addition to the distinction between PhotoCD and Photo Disk, there was also a distinction between the "regular" PhotoCD (which perhaps yes, was a mediocre format) and the "pro" version of PhotoCD. The "Master" version, as has been pointed out, a very high-quality format (and still is), and was by far the best archival method at the time.
That said, I agree with the others, it's time to move the files out of a format that's been orphaned even by the company that made it. A batch convert to TIFF, or some other format, is just a one-time conversion even if you have to go through multiple steps. Let's keep Lightroom simple and streamlined ;)
Personally, I would archive to max quality (10+ in Photoshop) JPG; storage may be cheap these days, but beyond this it's just wasted IMO. The reason I archive and work with RAW/DNG or TIFF is so I don't lose data in 12+ bit sources; when you're dealing with an 8-bit source format, eg PhotoCD, you don't gain anything by up-converting to a higher bit depth and at those high settings the JPEG compression loss is unnoticable even for fine detail. Maybe burn a copy or two of the TIFF on a DVD just for the heck of it, then keep the JPG on online storage (eg, hard drive) and don't look back. But TIFF vs JPEG, that's your call, just get it out of PhotoCD...

  • Kodak Pro Photo CD

I think I know the answer to this question but I thought I would ask anyway. I have some Kodak Pro Photo CD's with images that are very important to me. Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom no longer will open these disc. iPhoto will open the images but sorry, I dislike iPhoto very much. My question is will Aperture open images from Kodak Pro Photo CD?
Ideally, I would like to finely adjust and balance these images, and archive in the .dng format. I do not own Aperture but if it will help to do what I want I am willing to give it a try. Any assistance is appreciated in advance.

I believe that Graphic Converter (a most handy photo app to have around) is still licensed to be able to open them.  Once open you can save the images to a standard folder and then import into Aperture.  Buy it from the App Store.
If I can find one laying around, I will test.
You can email Thoreston Lemke and ask about Graphic Converter -- use support at lemkesoft.com.  Can find at http://www.lemkesoft.com/contact.html

  • Microsoft Pro Photo Tools 2 Includes Support For XMP Sidcar Files

This is a link to Microsoft's new Pro Photo Tools 2, which includes reading and writing to XMP sidecar files. I don't know how well it works.

Have you looked at Jeffrey Friedl's cross platform tool? http://regex.info/blog/lightroom-goodies/gps and http://regex.info/blog/2008-10-29/979
This works inside Lightroom, understands track log files, works with manual tagging from google maps and much more.

Try deleting the photo cache from your computer and then re-try the photo sync - the location of the cache, and how to delete it, is on this page http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1314

  • Microsoft Pro Photo - Geotag metadata in Lightroom

Geotagging (embedding location information in image metadata) has occasionally been mentioned in posts in this forum, but I just thought I'd share my recent experiences with Microsoft Pro Photo Tools (MPPT) with those that may not be aware of its existence/capabilities.
MPPT is essentially a metadata editor with Geotagging capability - and it is free (
). Since version 2 it has supported Adobe's XMP sidecar file format. I've recently used it with the following workflow to tag my images with location info directly from a separate GPS:
    1. Whilst shooting pictures, I carry around my Garmin GPS, recording my track (optional).
    2. Back at home, I download my images into LR, automatically adding copyright metadata, etc to all files at import.
    3. I download the track information from my Garmin GPS, saving it as a GPX file.
    4. I then open up the track GPX file and the images in MPPT.
5a. Based on the date/time exif data embedded in the image file and the date/time information in the track file, MPPT automatically identifies the location of each image and displays them on a map.
5b. If you have no GPS, you can easily enter in location and fine tune on a map. For example, enter "Seattle Art Museum" and the selected images are associated with the location of the Seattle Art Museum and shown on a map for you to fine tune!
    6. With one click, MPTT then writes location metadata (Country, State, City, Location, etc) to either the original image file or the sidecar XMP (depending on user defined configuration) - I write the data to XMP.
    7. Back to Lightroom and sync metadata (one click). At that point, all the location metadata is visible within the Library module.
I was impressed how easy this all was. One day this capability may well be within LR, but until then this is an easy way to geotag your images.

  • Pro photo lab having trouble with customer's lightroom images

I am not a Lightroom user.....I am a pro photo lab using Noritsu equipment and Kodak DP-2 software.........when I import files converted to JPG in Lightroom, they have a pasty, yellowish, flat, lifeless quality.not at all as they appear when displayed in Photoshop.........Is this a profile problem...Can you help me????

It sounds like the JPGs may have been exported with an AdobeRGB or even a ProPhotoRGB color-profile instead of the sRGB they should have. This is not a problem with Lightroom, just a problem with how someone used Lightroom.
You should be able to correct this in Photoshop if you have that. Use Edit / Convert to Profile... which should show what they have currently and then select sRGB as the Target profile.
If the images were exported without a color profile then look and see what Photoshop (which you said they look ok in) is using as its working RGB profile using Edit / Color Settings...
If the embedded profile is sRGB then it seems outside the realm of Photoshop and Lightroom problems. It could be that these have had the Noritsu profile for a particualr type of paper applied, but I don't know that you can do this with Lightroom.

I'm trying to pair my iPhone 4 with my MacBook Pro and it is saying my MacBook Pro is not supported. I just bought this thing and it's telling me that it isn't supported???

    Do you mean Bluetooth?
If you are trying to activate your iPhone you need to use iTunes.
There's no need to "pair" an iPhone with a Mac. Syncing, restoring, backing up, apps/ music / photos etc., is all done with iTunes.

  • Kodak pro back 645

Anybody knows where should I request support for an old Digital Back? Kodak ProBack 645
I have a lot of raw files of this DB. Lightroom supports these raws but I want to add them to Aperture

There are many raw convertors which support Kodak Pro Back (Lightroom/ACR, Raw Developer, Raw Therapee, Silky Pix, RPP (best) etc). So I even don't look towards DNG. ) I just want to store ALL my raws in one good catalog software. I don't like Lightrooom and it's color redention and because it is not MacOS-native. If Apple will not add support then I just continue to store my files in folders and convert with RPP
By the way — topic about this digital back with a lot of examples developed mostly in RPP

  • Adobe acrobat pro is not supported on this architecture

adobe acrobat pro is not supported on this architecture i have cs4 me

I had this problem yesterday. An odd thing had happened, and a folder within the FCP had been corrupted somehow and was broadcasting that it was a .mov file, when it was in fact a folder.
The folder in question was the "MacOS" folder within the FCP application file. I created a new folder, moved the contents of the corrupted folder into the new folder, deleted the corrupted folder, and renamed the new folder MacOS.
    And it works again.
Thanks to Zebulun, Jon Chappell, and Shane Ross for helping find a solution...

Do you have the paper type set to "Automatic"?  If so  specifying the paper type as some appropriate photo paper and see it that resolves the issue.

Color space…creating a book in My publisher….when I look at the share book pre print the colors are all dulled out. I work in pro photo rgb in LR and PS ….My Pub is sRGB….where is the problem?

I finally got to my references. This had to do with "soft proofing" on screen in Photoshop.
So this may not help you at all. Re: Strange sRGB soft-proofing behavior  So go ahead and leave that setting at Basic.
However there is a Color Management forum that you also go to and see if anyone has answers for your particular problem.
Here is the link: Color management
I hope they can help you out.
