Kodi-standalone stopped working

I've been using kodi-standalone (formerly xbmc-standalone) for a long time to start kodi when my machine boots. I just updated my system and the kodi-standalone service no longer works. When the machine boots, the screen goes black and then brings you to a terminal login prompt. I can start X just fine using the startx command, and the command used by the service works if you type it out when logged in.
All I have to go on in is the Xorg.log.0 file which doesn't really have any helpful info.

• Standalone (.exe) Flash 8 apps have stopped working with blank white screen

We have some standalone executable flash applications coded with Flash 8. These are the Microsoft Office 2007 command reference guides produced by Microsoft. Recently they have stopped working and now just display as a blank white screen when run.
As they are self contained Flash 8 movies, I'm unsure what would cause this.
Any ideas please? Could they be converted to a later version somehow? Or converted back to SWF so they can be recompiled back to exe with a later version of Flash? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

• I can't subscribe to Match on Win 7 with iTunes 10.6.3.25. When Apple ID auth window comes up iTunes crashes with "iTunes stopped working" and iTunes closes.

On Windows 7 with iTunes 10.6.3.25 I cannot subscribe to iTunes Match. In iTunes I click on iTunes Match in the left pane then click the "Subscribe for $25 a year" button. A window that looks like I am going to be asked to login using my Apple ID and password starts to come up but then an error occurs and I get a window that says "iTunes stopped working" then iTunes closes. What can I do ?

I've also read somewhere about using Win Rar to extract files to do with apple mobile device support from the itunes installer file, would you recommend that to? I don't really fancy the idea of doing anything that involves my registry because knowing me I'll end up screwing my laptop up for good lol
It's a little more involved than just doing a standalone AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi install, I'm afraid. The relevant drivers in AMDS are not digitally signed for 64-bit XP, so you have to force XP to accept a driver install that it would try its damnedest to not do. There's no driver issues for other 64-bit componentry in the installer package (I think the GEAR drivers install on XP 64-bit systems), but I believe there's still a bit of fancy footwork involved in getting them installed too ... although it's been a long time since I've looked at an instruction set, and I might not be recalling those things correctly. (So if you're not comfortable with system modifications, it might be best to steer clear of the Orca-based techniques ...)

• Itunes Has Stopped Working, Program closes

I have recently just updated my Itunes and it has stopped working. This happened in a previous updated version, but after a reinstall i was able to get it to work. This time it did not work, and I can't seem to find a way to get the program to work now.
The error looks like this...
I open itunes from shortcut on desktop or exe file from program file
I see itunes is opened up, i can see my playlists/songs everything
Before i get a chance to do anything windows pops up with a window and says
"Itunes has stopped working...windows is checking for a solution to the problem...A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.
I can only click on the "close program" button.
I have tried a reinstall twice now, and am lost for ideas on how to fix this. I'm not amazing at troubleshooting problems, so I've posted the error that shows up in my event log. Any help would be appreciated so i can continue to use the itunes store, and update my iphone.

Okay, taken at face value this is suggesting there's a problem with your QuickTime (which makes sense in context, because iTunes requires a properly functioning QuickTime in order to run).
So, let's first try swapping out your existing QuickTime.
Head into your "Uninstall a program" control panel. Uninstall QuickTime.
Next, we'll clear away any leftover QuickTime program files or folders.
Restart your computer.
After the computer restarts, open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your programs are installed on.
Open the Program Files folder.
Right-click the QuickTime folder (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer or whichever hard disk your operating system is installed on. Open the Windows folder. Open the System32 folder.
Right-click the QuickTime file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
Right-click the QuickTimeVR file (if it exists), choose Delete, and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue.
Right-click the Recycle Bin and choose Empty Recycle Bin.
Restart the PC and download and save a copy of the QuickTime standalone installer to your hard drive (get the one that doesn't mention iTunes):
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
Install QuickTime by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file.
Restart again, and try launching iTunes again. Does it launch without the error this time?

• ITunes has Stopped Working in Vista

Browsing this forum, I see quite a few people are having trouble with the newest version of iTunes.
Ever since I upgraded to iTunes 7.5 a few weeks ago on my 32-bit Vista Ultimate, the program will no longer run. When I try to start iTunes, I get a message saying "iTunes has stopped working. Windows can check online for a solution to the problem." Also, whenever I start up Windows, I get a similar message saying "iTunesHelper Module has stopped working."
When I tell Windows to check online for a solution, it just gives me a page telling me there's a newer version of iTunes, but it is the newest version that I'm trying to run.
Any thoughts?

This solution has worked on one of my 4 computers so I can't guarantee but it might be worth a try.
Uninstall Itunes and Quicktime. Reboot your computer
Empty out the recycle bin
Use Search to locate any and all files and folders that reference itunes or quick time. Of course do not touch your music folder.
Delete all these references to itunes and quick time.
Reboot.
Download a standalone version of Quick time and install.
Download Itunes (I used version 7.4.1 that I obtained from Oldapps.com.)
Once this was done I was able to run itunes on my laptop. I did upgrade to 7.5 but I could not get my sons nano 8GB to sync so I reverted back to 7.4.1 and it works just fine.
I have yet to get itunes working on My wifes vista laptop and it quit working on my XP desktop some time ago (I have never used it and wouldn't care except my son just bought the nano) Itunes a version prior to 7.4 was running on my sons laptop until he upgrade to 7.5 when he bought the nano, just last Friday, and 7.5 totally borked things up. Aside note is that his hard drive crashed a day later, but I don't think that had anything to do with it.
If you read through this board you will find that itunes and windows are not getting along well at all. If you have a "new" ipod be it nano, classic or what ever I beleive you must use version 7.4 or newer. It seems to me that if Apple really wants floks to buy these things they should be sure the primary piece of software is stable and works!

• Audio tracks stop working

This issue has been discussed before in these forums, but since it's happening more frequently, I thought I would see if anyone found a solution.  The issue is that in Premiere 7, when a narration is recorded, any other audio tracks that existed in the timeline before the narration was recorded stop working (soundtrack, audio 1, audio 2).  The narration track still works, though.  This used to happen to maybe one student per class in my video course, but now it's happening to about 3 per class, all on different computers.  A workaround is to add some more audio tracks, and move the clips from the broken tracks to the new ones.  As this can be cumbersome, has anyone found a reason why this happens in the first place, so I can avoid it?  Or has anyone found a better solution?

Are you working on a network?
If so, are your media and project files stored on the individual computers or on the network?
If on a network, you need to contact Adobe Tech Support. This program has some unique configurations and challenges when not installed a standalone PC.

• Upgrade 10.3 to 10.4: Kerberos authentication stopped working

Hello:
I upgraded a G5 XServe from 10.3.9 to 10.4. It almost worked - ie: system booted again, all disks are visible, etc. But, trying to log on with a user in the OD hosted on that machine has stopped working... this happens when I try to mount a shared AFP volume, and also when logging on from a 10.4.8 client bound in Directory Access to that server. Logging on under the admin account at the console (over ARD in this case), or via ssh, works fine. I didn't think to try other accounts via that method, I will do this tomorrow morning local time and post a followup.
Upon connecting to the server with Server Admin, a message told me that there were new services which needed kerberizing, and to go to Open Directory and click 'settings'. I did this, and also looked at the overview: netinfod was in local-only mode, while all the others were marked as "Running" (lookupd, slapd, Password Server, Kerberos). In the old 10.3.9 system (ie: where user authentication is working OK), all are marked as "Running".
I clicked the "Kerberize" button, and entered a directory admin username and password as instructed. I think the process completed (unfortunately I didn't get a screenshot). Now, the kerberize button is gone.
At various times when admin passwords were requested, I have to try several; the expected ones didn't always work. Eg: I thought the "diradmin" account was needed in one dialog, but I used the system "admin" account instead. (Sorry, didn't record proper details of those events).
Forward and reverse DNS lookups with the host command work ok - they return the expected IP address.
I looked through a bunch of logs (/var/log/*.log, /Library/Logs/.../*.log), and found a few lines with possible clues... these are shown further down.
I have now tried updating to 10.4.8 (I'm not sure if I should have done it before kerberos was going again, but getting the system up to date does seem prudent). Errors are all exactly the same.
Any hints or suggestions much appreciated! Here's some promising things I've found, which I'll be studying today. I hope to take the server down tomorrow morning again to try this stuff out...

Thanks heaps for your reply
Yes, I did indeed use CDs.
I followed the instructions at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301909-en , but struck problems...
Step 16:
here's what I got after pressing CTRL-D:
ldap_add: Server is unwilling to perform (53)
additional info: no global superior knowledge
I thought I'd press ahead anyway... and struck the next problem:
Step 18:
here's what I got when attempting to add a record in /AccessControls.. a dialog box that said this:
Record type not mapped
The record with type "AccessControls" is not mapped. Your should report this error to the administrator of your directory server.
I found the following:
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=ServerAdmin/10.4/en/c7od31.html
step 8 on that page, bullet point starting with "To add a mapping for a record type ..." seems what I want, but have no idea which object class name to use.
Not sure where to go next. I'm somewhat inclined to blow away the OD database, and rebuild it from a backup. I would do this...
On the 10.3.9 system:
- export the OD from WGM
Go into 10.4.8, and:
- in Server Admin, change OD to be standalone only
- reboot
- go back to Server Admin, change OD to be a OD master
- import the records exported from the 10.3.9 system
I will post another update tommorrow.

• ITunes has stopped working on Vista, help!!

Earlier today, my iTunes was working fine. But then a friend of mine wanted me to download software that included a program called "Quicktime Alternative." I was skeptical but decided to try it our anyways. After the installation of a few things, my iTunes, along with my Quicktime, has stopped working. These are the errors I get when I try to open iTunes (Quicktime has the same error except anywhere it says iTunes, it says Quicktime)

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling a few times, with no luck. I uninstalled all the files that I had previously installed at the recommendation of my friend. Still nothing. Any ideas?
Can anyone help? All help is greatly appreciated!

Those QuickTime alternatives will frequently break itunes, because iTunes depends on a good QuickTime installation. itunes uses hte Qt audio & video codecs.
See if you can download and install this QuickTime standalone. That should get iTunes working again. Make sure to get the version withOUT itunes.

• My Prefered Start Up Disk Stop Working

Here's my problem:
As of yesterday, my prefered start-up disk (on the Hard Drive "Bob") stop working as a start up disk. The smaller older Hard Drive "Michele" is the only one that works, and is dated back to June (thus being outdated with our Email, iTunes, Safari preferences, etc) There doesn't appear to be anything wrong with "Bob", I see it, and I can select it as my Start -Up, but it won't start from it.
When/How it started:
The Mac went to sleep, and couldn't be woken up (which I don't undestand becuz i set it never to go to sleep). After a 2 restarts with only an "Apple" logo with no spooling, we re-started holding "D" or "C"... thinking it would boot up on the OSX Disk ( I forget the start-up commands) anyhow, it started up on the older drive "Michele" which is NOT what I want.
What I've done so far:
I've gone to my preferences to choose my prefered Start up disk ("Bob") on both the current drive ("Michele") as well as the OSX DVD. That doesn't work. Everytime I restart, it restarts on the wrong Hard Drive. I've ran repairs using the Utilities prog (both from the current drive as well as the DVD) I've also reinstalled Tiger 10.4 onto "Bob" with the "archive" option.
Here's my configuration (as best I as can give)
"Michele" - Original HardDrive (30G) in it's original place
"Bob" - 250 Hard Drive (Internal) on a Controller Card (to allow the this old G4 to recognise a HD over 120G)
(irrelevant) another 160G HD(Internal) partitioned into 30 + 130 on the same controller card
ATI Radeon 9200
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
PPC G4 Dual 450 upgraded to Dual 1.3   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   ATI 9200 Radeon Card, CSCSI Controller Card for internal Hardrives

Actually, Disk Utility is more robust and has gotten better with each update. But you have to use it, even if that means using fsck from the command line in single user mode; or Applejack (but you have to install it when your drive is working).
the other thing is - keep your backup current, and keep a separate "emergency boot volume" that you can use.
Disk Warrior 4 is out now.
If the journal is shot and corrupt, you are not going to get a Safe boot to work or help, and you have to repair what is wrong.
I would zero the drive, or even do a 7-way write, to insure that there are not any bad blocks. Bad blocks within the partition table require reformat/repartition at the least.
Also, an Archive & Install when there is/was a corrupt drive or bad block may only mask the problem until later.
Lastly, don't use the boot drive while it is being updated. Boot from another drive and install the combo update, but don't use an active system being updated. And use the standalone downloads for the updates, you can save and use them later. *Using a system while it is being updated is pretty much asking for trouble on the next boot.

• User issue-- "itunes has stopped working"

This week I have been unable to access iTunes, instead receiving the following error message: "iTunes has stopped working."
I have reviewed earlier discussions, especially this recent one:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1464059&tstart=15
I have tried most of the suggestions, but I have run into a few roadblocks that I wanted to see if I could get some help with. But before all of that, I wanted to note that I created a new user account and was able to access iTunes that way. Unfortunately, however, this is not a good long term solution. I would like to try to resolve whatever issue exists with my user account.
With respect to the potential solutions identified in the earlier post:
*“Completely Remove iTunes and Quicktime”*
#17—no such files existed in my windows\\system32 folder.
*“Empty your Temp directory and restart”*
I got the following error message :The action cannot be completed because the folder is open in another program. Close the folder and try again. I thought that I had closed all of the applications.
*“Clean Up iTunes installer files on the computer”*
When you click on the link under this suggestion, you get a warning from Windows not to use this utility with 2007 Office system products, which are what I have.
*“Download Quicktime Standalone Installer”*
I have no interest in Quicktime and only have it because it is apparently bundled with iTunes. Still, I tried this and it did not fix the problem. (BTW, Quicktime still works fine.)
*“Disable other conflicting software”*
I used MSCONFIG to try to troubleshoot conflicts. First, the instructions in article 305415 indicate that the following two items will be under the "startup" tab: "iTunesHelper" and "qttask." These were not listed. Second, when I clicked the "services" tab and selected "hide all microsoft services," there were 25 items still listed, which seems not right to me. I did not proceed here because I was concerned about causing some disaster.
If anyone has any insight here and would be willing to share it, I would greatly appreciate it!
PS--is there a way to copy and paste the list of startup programs so that I can print them and review them one by one? Thanks!

+But before all of that, I wanted to note that I created a new user account and was able to access iTunes that way.+
Up until now you've been working through techniques for troubleshooting System-wide problems. But that fact you relate about the user accounts indicates that you've got a user-account-specific problem, and the troubleshooting techniques are different for those.
In your normal user account, try the techniques listed under "User-specific Troubleshooting" in the following document:
iTunes for Windows Vista: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues

• Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 has stopped working

My Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 has stopped working.
I receive the following error when trying to start:
An error has occured. See the log file
C:\ Documents and Settings.......\.metadata.log
I have attached the file.
I have searched the web to try and find a suitable reason/solution but can't seem to find one.
I'm using WIN XP
I had another look on the forums and have managed to cobble together an ini  file which launches Eclipse (as the IDE) instead of Flash Builder but it's not ideal although it does seem to work.
It's really very strange.

• Fresh Install Mac - Licensing for this product has stopped working  Error: 6

We just got the new macbook pro refreshes at work and decided to make the switch to standalone CFBuilder.   We downloaded the trial and installed.  On launch we get this error, "Licensing for this product has stopped working  Error: 6".  Every macbook had the same result.   All are running 2 Ghz Quad Core i7 with 8GB of ram.   All of them get the same error.    All have a fresh install of 10.6.6.   Other than installing Air before the CFBuilder install they have no other applications installed.   Other than Air, there are no other Adobe products installed.  All CFBuilders were installed under an admin account.
We've tried all the troubleshooting.   Permissions, LicenseRecovery, Setting the clock back to 2010... we even tried reinstalling OSX, then installing acrobat, then air, then CFBuilder with the same result every time.   We even activated the root account on the system and installed under root.  Same result every time.    The Flexnet service never gets created unless we use the License recovery tool.   If we install the updater it still makes no difference.
All options for CFBuilder are grayed out under help.   Registration, Deactivation, Updates...
Any suggestions?

Thanks for posting and letting me know. Yes, it is crappy to have to work-around it like that. I noticed when I installed
Builder that it over-wrote some newer files, but I said "Okay to All". I'm using CS4 not CS5 and my newer files were probably better. I'm glad you got your program working at least. My problem is I started my first Project at the wwwroot level, like all the instructions say. It wasn't until I saw Ben Forta's video of it that I realized I was supposed to start a new folder within the wwwroot folder as my Project folder. Now I can't get rid of my first Project folder without DELETING all of the files in wwwroot, WHICH I CANNOT DO. MANY OF THE FOLDERS THERE ARE WORKING WEB SITES! If you know of any way to detach that original Project, I'd sure like to know how to do it.
Thanks,
Tedra

• CS6 on Windows 7 - when I try and send my project to Adobe Link, then to Encore I repeatedly get the error message "Encore has stopped working, windows will close the program".  I get the same error message when I try and open Encore on its own.  Help wou

Both when I open Encore as a standalone program, and when I try and export my work via Adobe Link to Send to Encore, I get the same error message - "Adobe Encore has stopped working.  Windows will close the program.  Help would really be appreciated.  Thanks.

Now that is impressive Stan, thankyou!  So simple ...  I don't suppose you know why the "build" button is greyed out do you?  Don't worry if you don't have more "magic dust" at your fingertips, I'll re-check my settings again, and again ...  Thanks for your help.  Doreen.

• Help!! My itunes stopped working!!!!!

Right after I updated my itunes for windows it stopped working completely it doesnt even open anymore. I've tried uninstalling it and re installing it but it wont help i even made a system restore on my computer and it wouldn't fix it. I've downloaded the newest version over and over but it just wont help. What can i do because now I cant update my ipod. Help please i'm desperate.

9 times out of 10 this is a windows problem or norton hasn't been set up to allow iTunes, etc.
Please read some of the posts over on installing and upgrading
http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=792
top fixes are
- turning off security software before the install as Apple suggests
- installing QuickTime standalone, not regular
- setting up Norton to allow iTunes
- scanning for malware with ewido
