KokChoy: Control Panel crash with newest PCI drivers

As another user posted, when using the newest PCI drivers posted, in my case, the Xtreme Music X-Fi drivers, marked as 2.8.500, the control panel, crashes or hangs when loading under Windows 7 or windows vista 64 bit.
Can you please confirm or relay to the driver team?

Well John, this will blow your mind I am sure. I download the newest X-FI titanium drivers and unzip them with WINRAR. Then I browse the driver folder inside and update with those. I dont use the setup.exe as it will detect incorrect product. I choose the have disk method and it works brillantly. I used my PCI Fatality PRO with the BETAS and the control panel gave me fits. So I tried as a lark to have disk......to the Titanium drivers and it worked beautifully.
This even gave me VOICEFX for soundFX with my microphone.

why is date and time control panel crashing?

I haven't noticed that in iCal. I don't normally use a 24 hour clock.
Glad to help on the other, though.

Hi,
I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, since the latest version of Flash Player, a new icon has appeared in my Control Panel, FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl is the file name. Since this update, my Windows Control Panel will continally crash. if I rename FlashPlayerCPLApp.cpl to oprevent it from loading with the Windows Control Panel, then there are no crashes? Is this a known issue?

I reject that definition, being as it's not a definition :\ furthermore, editing a launcher is not clutter, it is simply editing a launcher.
Clutter (organizing), a confusing or disorderly state or collection, and possible symptom of compulsive hoarding
I don't know where you get editing 1 launcher as 'clutter'.
and FYI there was a gnome-control-center update today, so if you can't remember changing a setting for all of about a day or two, that's pretty bad dude.

• ICloud control panel works with 1 ID but not with another

I don't get what the issue is. I can't get the iCloud control panel to work with my itunes/iCloud ID. I am running Windows 7 home premium 64-bit. I logged in with my wife's iCloud account and it worked, logged out and tried to use mine and nothing. It just sits there and the little circle next to "sign in" just spins.
I downloaded the newest update for the control panel and tried it again. Hers works, mine doesn't. This has been going on for about a  year and is really annoying.
It is just on the control panel, my iCloud credentials work fine everywhere else (iCloud website, here, iPhone, iPad), so I know that is not the problem.

Here's one way to simplify some of this code. I know that this has nothing to do w/ the original question, but nevetheless, it's an itch that I feel I have to scratch...
public class ssnBoard extends JFrame implements ActionListener,
        Runnable
        JPanel pane = new JPanel();
        JButton[] numberBtns = new JButton[10];
        Font bigFont;
        Color[] numberButtonColors =
            Color.MAGENTA, Color.red, Color.pink, Color.blue, Color.yellow,
            Color.green, Color.yellow, Color.blue, Color.pink, Color.red
        JButton clear = new JButton("CLEAR");
        JButton cancel = new JButton("CANCEL");
        JTextField RutgersIDField = new JTextField("", 6);and this
            for (int i = 1; i < numberBtns.length; i++)
                pane.add(setUpNumberBtns(i));
            pane.add(setUpNumberBtns(0));
            clear.setFont(smallFont);
            Color c10 = Color.white;
            clear.setBackground(c10);
            clear.setForeground(Color.black);
            clear.addActionListener(this); // register button
            pane.add(clear);
            clear.setFocusable(false);and of course this:
        private JButton setUpNumberBtns(int i)
            JButton myBtn = numberBtns;
myBtn.setFont(bigFont);
myBtn.setBackground(numberButtonColors);
myBtn.setForeground(Color.black);
myBtn.addActionListener(this);
myBtn.setFocusable(false);
return myBtn;

• Catalyst Control Center crashes with new video driver update

Hi Folks,
I just updated to the newest rev of the ATI driver (April 28, 2009).  Now, catalyst control center crashes at startup, opening a dialog box that says, "catalyst control center monitoring program has encountered a problem and needs to close".
Has anyone else run into this?  Any ideas on how to fix it?
Thanks,

• Thinkpad X61 Control Panel Crash

Like it says.
I would be using it for a bit and it would crash randomly. It doesn't matter what category of the control panel I go to either. I can browse around for like 30 seconds then it would crash and the say "The page failed to load." Then when I press the go back button, Windows Explorer would restart.
Looked this up online and saw that it had happened to Vista users too. Apparently it's still dragging into Windows 7.
Any help is much appreciated!

Hi,
Control panel works by loading applets corresponding to the different icons in the panel. I assume you have a problem with one of these applets. In my Windows 7 installation I have had no problems so I can only assume that it is some recently installed driver or application which has installed an applet in the panel for configuration purposes.
I can only recommend you try to think back to when the problem started and if you installed something prior in that case deinstall it to see if things improve.
Have you checked you system log for more information about the culprit?

• ICloud control panel crashes Outlook 2013

Hi everyone,
last week I installed the latest verson of the iCloud control panel (3.0). The only thing doesn't works is the add-in for Outlook. Outlook 2013 allways crashes when the add-in is activated. Before the update is used the latest second generation version of the iCloud control panel and everything was fine. Even "repair" didn't help me to fix the problem.
Does anybody a way to help?

Your first question should be researched on Microsoft's support forums.  This may get you started as it discusses how to create and configure an Outlook profile: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829918.
On your second question, to change the iCloud ID you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, go to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

• Virtu Control Panel issue with Z68A-GD80

Hello,
I am a reviewer for PC Labs (http://www.pclabs.com.tr) and I've been evaluating the Virtu software for some time now. I have the following problem:
This error shows up whenever I try to start Virtu. If I click Yes, it just pops up again, infinitely. If I press No, Virtu quits.
Yes, I read the Virtu installation guide section
Motherboard BIOS is the latest. I'd been trying the previous ones as well.
As stated in the manual; I first installed Intel HD Graphics 3000 drivers, then added the discrete VGA card, let Windows install the drivers, then installed Virtu
I also tried all possible combinations of driver installation with and without Windows Update - manually installed VGA driver from AMD, let Windows install HD Graphics 3000 driver, etc.
I tried multiple versions of Virtu; from MSI download site, from Virtu directly, etc.
Re-installed Windows and done the same, no luck
Here's the rig:
- MSI Z68A-GD80 motherboard with most recent BIOS update available at the date of this post.
- Intel Core i7-2600K processor
- Radeon HD 6870 discrete card
- 4 GB Kingston DDR3-2000 (also tried with Kingston HyperX DDR3-2133)
- Seagate ST3250410AS & Kingston 120 GB SSD
- Thermaltake Toughpower 875 W PSU
- Windows 7 64 bits with SP1
Any ideas?

Done.
Thanks for the extra hand, Jack.

Two related questions for clarification:
Which version do you have exactly?
---> http://eu.msi.com/service/search/?kw=Z68A-GD80%20&type=product
... B3 or G3?
Which version is that exactly? (Exact version ID)
The version will be different, depending on the motherboard variant you have.
In addition to that, there are always BETA and Final Releases.  In case you are referring to the latest Final Release, an even never BETA Release might already be available which does not appear on the board's product site.
The board is a B3. 7672 Ver. 3.0 exactly. As for the driver & application versions:
- Intel HD Graphics 3000 was tested with drivers from MSI and also from Intel. At the time I started this topic, the installed driver was 12.22.1.64.2361 (8.15.10.2361).
- AMD drivers tested (with Radeon HD 6870) were 11.6, 11.7 and finally, 11.8.
- Virtu software versions tested were: First was from MSI (can't remember the version number right now), 1.2.105, 1.2.106 from LucidLogix
- Motherboard BIOSes tested were: Initial BIOS (2011-04-25 date), 17.1 (7672vH1 ROM, date 2011-05-30) and for the time being, 17.2 (7672vH2 ROM, date 2011-07-18).
Quote from: HU16E on 23-August-11, 03:57:21
In the Virtu Control Panel, 'About' Tab, does the Virtu version appear, or does it say Trial Version?
Added: After reading & following the MSI Software Application Guide v1.3, & using the Virtu drivers off the install disk that came with the mainboard, I had flawless performance using Virtu. My mainboard was shipped with the initial UEFI release (17.0 for a B3). The Lucid Virtu license key was enabled right from the beginning.
The Virtu Control Panel never shows up. When the system boots up and I login to Windows, the error message I mentioned is shown. Clicking "Yes" results in the same error; clicking No quits Virtu. The same happens when I manually start the Virtu Control Panel app.
MSI SW App. Guide and software from the install disk didn't work for me. :( I don't think it's the Virtu license key because Virtu is actually *active*. I do get the Virtu logo on 3DMark Vantage (and possibly other 3D apps registered to Virtu) and get discrete card class results from the benchmark in i-Mode. Besides, I believe Virtu software doesn't mean to say my license key is missing. Please see below.
You could make it, then I'd like to ask you a favor. There should be two files in a LucidLogix folder, located in your User directory:
Code: [Select]
{Your_Drive_Name}:\Users\{Your_UserName}\LucidLogix
The files are lucidloader.ini and userSettings.xml.
Could you post those two? As far as I could deduce, there shouldn't be any personal information in those files. Just general settings and application profiles. The error seems to stem from a disrepancy between these two files. The software seems to look for some "keys" from the XML file (where settins and app. profiles are stored as "keys" like <key>KeyName</key>. I'll attach my files a few minutes later. Check the userSettings file; around the end of the file, you'll see the word "general". My bet is on that one.
Of course, while I quoted HU16E, Jack and anyone else interested is welcome in this discussion.

• Is there a way to protect the iCloud control panel access with a password in Windows 7?

I have MS Outlook sync'd with my iCloud services in my Windows7 office PC (I'm pushing for Macs, but quite there yet, unfortunately!), and I have it password protected so nobody else can access my files. However, the iCloud app in Control Panel doesn't have any password protection so it can be messed with at any moment. Is there any way to protect it, or are there any plans to include this feature in future updates?

Same here, I use iCloud on an office PC.
I would like to password protect the access to the iCloud Control Panel. Is there a way to do that? I can either "Sign in" or "Sign Out."
if I sign out I can't add iCloud calendar to Outlook. If I stay signed in, IT could easily activate my personal iCloud mail.
Ideally, there should be a checkbox to just add calendar and leave mail, contacts and task out all together.
Thanks.

• NI IVI Soft front panel compatibility with IVI-COM drivers

Does IVI soft front panels support IVI-COM instruments drivers ?
For example, I would like to use IVI-COM driver for Tektronix TDS5000 with TestStand...
Jean-Louis SCHRICKE
├ CTA - Certified TestStand Architect (2008 & 2010 & 2014)
├ CTD - Certified TestStand Developer (2004 & 2007)
└ CLD - Certified LabVIEW Developer (2003 & 2005)

The IVI soft front panels that ship with the NI IVI Driver Toolset do not support calling IVI-COM drivers. The soft front panels support IVI-C drivers. On Instrument Driver Network there are IVI-C drivers for other Tektronix scopes.

• PE7 crashing with new NVidia Drivers

Just a note, I updated to the NVidia 191.xx series driver, from the 190.xx version, on my notebook and my desktop PC.  Both crashed whenever I used the scrollbar to scroll down the effects or transitions area.  I went back to the 190 series and it's fine again.
Just a note the latest 191.xx series drivers from NVidia caused PE7 to become unstable on both my PCs, both running 64 bit Vista.

Check out this thread, there have been quite a number of posts on various Forums concerning nVidia issues with the latest drivers:

• No sound front panel audio with newest CMI 9880L driver

So basically I plugged in a headphone the other day on the front panel and noticed the audio jack randomly stopped working. They  worked for about 3 years and the last changes I've made was updating the CMI 9880L driver to the newest one on the MSI website for my mainboard( 915P combo), about a month ago. So I thought the problem was the new driver, I went back to the CD that came with the board and installed the audio drivers I had before, It also didnt work!. I went to the hardware manager and clicked on the ROLL BACK driver button and it installed a microsoft driver, this time the front audio jacks DID work, this means is not a hardware problem. What is going on with the new C-MEDIA driver? what should I do to restore sound to the front jacks?
ps. I messed around with the BIOS options(switching between Azalia and AC97) and nothing happened.

I am quite confused... would appreciate your help.
Well, so was I. A good explanation can be found at
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-015851.htm
The point is, that the same output can be used either for AC-97 front panel audio (what you have on your chassis) or for High Definition Audio (which I've never seen). The board seems to differentiate between these two by means of the PIN #4 (Presence), which you just leave disconnected in your case.
Microphone should use PINs 1, 2 and 3:
1 - Mic In, 2 - Ground, 3 - Mic Power
Audio output should use PINs 5, 6, 9 and 10:
5 - R-Out, 6 - R-RET, 9 - L-Out, 10 - L-RET.
After you'll have connected the PINs to the audio connectors, do not forget to turn off the jack detection in the "Realtek HD Audio Manager" as I described before.

• Skype causing display crash with newest AMD driver...

I have two graphics cards, an Nvidia GTX 750 Ti, and an XFX R9 280X. Skype gives me zero problems with the 750 Ti and latest Nvidia drivers, but with the 280X and latest Catalyst drivers from AMD, about 5 seconds after Skype starts up, my display freezes and just displays some crazy lines and colors. To test this, I closed Skype just before it completely started up, and, to my surprise, things ran smoothly, so this has to be a Skype issues with AMD drivers. Before I installed drivers for the 280X, there was no problem with Skype starting up. After, my PC becomes unusable with the drivers and Skype starting up. Any thoughts? I cannot just simply neglect to use Skype. A conflict between Skype and AMD drivers seems to be the only possible explanation if this problem does not occur without the drivers, nor with Nvidia drivers.

• Fix: Entrypoint error with newest ATi drivers on R200 series

Hey,
It seems that copying the libGL.so.1.2 from 8.24.8 works around this problem. I've taken out the middle man, and in the latest (ati-fglrx-utils-8.26.18-2) update to ati-fglrx-utils, I included it as /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2.R200
If you are affected by this problem, to correct it, simply:
cp /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2.R200 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1.2

disclaimer: I dont have the hardware to test this, but it seems to work for quite a few people.

Thanks iphitus, but still no luck in my laptop.
Good news for the HP-Compaq laptop users: The BIOS hack enabling Sideport+UMA and 128M of aditional memory for the graphics card is not needed anymore (maybe this was solved with the last kernel upgrade to 2.6.17).
Now I'm using the ati-fglrx driver with 3D accel disabled, commenting the Load "dri" line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and everything is working fine (no hangs when change from X to VC and so on).
Here is my /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

I have the following modules loaded (related to graphics card):
