Konqueror 4.3.2 frequently times out vs. Firefox never does

Hi,
I'm on a fully (daily) Arch 32b/KDE 4.3.2 PC.
I've noted that Konqueror frequently times out (error message "Socket operation timed out") whereas Firefox NEVER does that (same sites). I've topped up the socket read (System Settings, Connection Preference)  to 20 Sec (was 15 originally) but this didn't help.
Besides I notice that Firefox is much faster rendering various sites.
Please Advise!
Thanks

The Chrome bookmark issue is internal with Google since the Android team and Chrome team are seprate and is being addressed. There is a great app that I'm using called Chromemarks which comes in free and pay versions that sync your Chrome bookmarks and allow you to access (and for the pay version edit) them. Highly recommend this app since it looks like this issue is months old.
I know I returned my Ideapad for another, but I'm trying to stick around and help with small issues best I can and share any info I've gotten. Desipite this set back I'm still a Lenovo fanboy and hope to one day own a fully functioning Lenovo tablet (with all the bugs worked out). Highly recommend you guys also turn to some of the larger Android communities for help, some issues aren't Lenovo issues, but issues with the actual OS shared by all Androids (though nothing as major as the current Ideapad K1 issues). This inclues small app crashes, the bookmark syncing and being able to access all of your internal storage on your PC. Most of the communities are still mostly focused on phones, but because of the popularity of the tablets are beginning to shift gears.

The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • HT204266 My App Store keeps struggling to load up. Requests frequently time out and searches just don't do anything. If it does load up a search, the iPad closes down App Store, returns to home screen and, upon re-opening, the search has been deleted. Hel

I've had my iPad (retina display) since last year. Over the last few weeks the App Store struggles to load on occasion and times out completely. When searches do rarely complete, the App Store closes down and returns my iPad to the home screen and, when I open the App Store again, it has just reset the store, forcing it to load all over again. I've tried closing all running background applications, with no difference being made. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    1. Double-click the Home button to reveal Task Bar
    2. Hold the App Store app down for a second or two until you see the minus sign
    3. Tap the minus sign to close app
    4. Re-launch the app and test
Note: If necessary close all apps in the Task Bar

  • I keep getting the an Alexa Sparky pop-up each time I open Firefox, it does not provide a "no" option... how can I permanently stop the popup?

Every time I open Firefox, I get a pop-up asking me to install the Alexa Sparky toolbar--which I do not want. The pop-up box does not offer an option to say "no" or "do not ask me again", which is VERY annoying. How can I permanently stop the popup?

    '''This worked for me:'''
How to disable extensions, Personas, and plugins
Disabling an add-on will turn it off without removing it:
At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions or Appearance or Plugins panel.
Select the add-on you wish to disable.
    Click the Disable button.
Click Restart now if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
To re-enable the add-on, find it in the list of Add-ons and click Enable, then restart Firefox.

  • Frequent time outs loading pages

OK, I'm running OS 10.7.4.  After downloading the latest version of FireFox (12.0), I started experience extremely frequent timeouts in loading pages.
So, I launched Safari.  Same thing happened.  Reloading the pages doesn't seem to work in either browser.
Checked with the ISP.  Download and upload speeds were within acceptabe ranges.
The only common denominator seems to be the OS.
The other major thing is that streaming video will start, but after about half a minute, it hangs and will not reload.  I also have the latest Flash Player.
Also running Sophos Free Antivirus, recently downloaded.
It's also pretty slow launching Finder.
All around I get lots of beach balls.
I know it's enticing to blame something other than Lion, but Lion seems to be the only common denominator.

None, or ClamXav if you must have something.

  • Safari times out but Firefox does not

I am using my MacBook Pro on a windows network at the office. It works flawlessly with one exception. If I use Safari as my browser, in inevitably stops loading pages after a few minutes. For example, I can go to www.apple.com and it will load fine. When I click on "support" in then hangs up while trying to load the page. It does not give me an error message, it just continues to try loading the page. If I use Firefox, however, this behavior never happens and it works without problem.
I only have this problem while on my office network. If I use my Macbook on another network, Safari works flawlessly. In fact, this behavior at my office started about 6 months ago, and prior to that Safari worked OK.
So obviously I think the problem has something to do with the way my network is configured at the office. However, my IT people have no clue where to look because the problem is so bizarre.
Does anyone have any idea why Firefox would work but not Safari, on the same network??

I wonder if we can find a pattern in these sites that do not work. By opening the "activity" window in safari it tells us which components of the site are not loading.
    Dell.com:
    Dell Global
    Yahoo mail:
    http://ad.yieldmanager.com/pixel?id=175891&t=2%20width=1
    Weather.com:
    Weather Program
Facebook.com does not even show up in the activity window....this would suggest to me that Safari is not able to find it via DNS.
Since Safari runs on the open source WebKit, I wonder if another WebKit browser would have the same problems, or if the problem is specific to something Safari is doing.
Any apple technicians care to join in the discussion please??

  • O/s Win XP 64 bit - Java latest version installed but Firefox Nightly 64 bit will not recognise it after re-install 3 times & re-loading FireFox, IE does see it

Although I had Java latest version installed and IE and Chrome recognise it, i can't get Firefox Nightly 64bit to see Java. Websites with Java functionality in Firefox report that i need to install Java.
I re-installed 3 times, I cleaned out older Java versions and did all other steps in Firefox help articles.
If I go to Firefox plugins page, its says the only plugin I have is Shockwave. If I select the Java option, it tells me to download and install Java - which I have done before several times.
I have shut down and re-opened Firefox many times to get it to see Java.
Java is installed to c:/Program Files(x86). Is Firefox looking for Java in c:/Program Files ??
The website in question is the nVidea driver download page at http://www.geforce.co.uk/drivers, where the auto-detect correct driver function is a Java function. In the end I had to use IE to run the Java function.

  • After I updated to 5.o, every time I start Firefox it does the " Checking for compatibilty of add-ons " thing and also opens a " Welcome to Firefox 5.0 " tab in addition to my home page. Is there any way to stop this, it is really annoying.

    Same as above.

    See:
Thee can also be a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.sqlite, extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry.<br />
New files will be created when required.
    See "Corrupt extension files":
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to do a compatibility check or see if there is an update.

  • When I log in to livejournal, it asks me if I want to remember my password. (Not firefox, LJ.) I tell it yes. This means I should NOT have to relogin at all 'cause I don't get logged OUT. Firefox NEVER brings me back logged in and IE always does.

How do I make it work the way it should? I have tons of sites I don't want to have to log into daily and this is ridiculous.

Its simply too complicated - it is NOT userfriendly and the help is a laugh.
Firefox is becomming just like any other program that does not work with humans. Like windows....

  • Apple Mail fetch repeatedly times out

This is not a specific Lion problem but has continued under Lion, it's related to Apple Mail. On each of our 4 Macs our mail fetch from our ISP frequently times out  on all POP email accounts, repeatedly asking for a password even though the password is clearly stored in Mail preferences and Keychain. Sometimes I find that the POP email passwords are deleted from Mail, although they are always there in the Keychain. It only happens with POP, not IMAP etc. Needless to say our ISP has been vague and unhelpful. Any suggestions?

Even if it happens from outside their network, your mail still uses the same settings for servers and ports as to what you put into the settings. So, it's still routed through them regardless of the network your on. That why I suggested it may be the cause. Like I said, the same problem went on with ATT for many months.
There were many thoughts also on how mac mail was talking to the ISP, but in my case wasn't the problem. If you open up connection doctor in mail and test the connections from time to time, it failed in many cases. Sometimes, it failed constantly.
And since you've said it happens outside your network, that should eliminate your router.
So, you may want to talk with your ISP support group and ask them if they are making any changes to ports or servers. And if you haven't, check their website and search for mail server and port settings for mac to make sure you have the latest.
And I do understand that it's probably a wasted effort because most of the time they won't know what's going on.
    I feel your pain.

  • Time out when seinding Idocs from XI to receiving system

    Hi All,
we have implemented a file to Idoc scenario in our XI test environment.
When sending more than one file at a time (containing one record -> 1 Idoc after conversion) XI creates the Idocs but gets a time out when passing the Idocs to the receiving SAP 4.6C system. We find the messages blocked in transaction SM58 with the status message "Transaction recorded" and on the XI system short dumps are created with the time out error message.
Does anyone know this problem and can give us some hints how to resolve it ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Christiane

    Christiane,
Check your partner profiles in the target R/3 system. Use Tcode WE20 and check the inbound parameters option to see if the radio button 'Process Immediately' is switched on. If yes, change this to 'Process by background program'.
This way, the IDOC will be created in your system with status 64. You can then use program RBDAPP01 in the R/3 system to post these IDOCs to application.
The reason I say this is, sometimes, posting applicaitons may take a long time thereby resulting in timeout. If this is not the actual reason, atleast this will lead you to the correct problem.
Try this and let me know what's happening.

  • ABAP Program analysis with se30 how to avoid time out ?

    Hi Gurus,
my problem is that I would like to analysis the performance issues of an ABAP Specific transaction.
BAsically, I launch se30, provide transaction code under transaction field and click on execute.
This launch transaction and then I put parameters and :
    a ) launch transcation
b ) launch in background immediate.
In both cases it doesn't work due to time out and I never obtain a usefull result.
My question is : how can I use to analys such a transaction and avoid time out problem ?
    Thanks for your help,
    Regards
    Morgan

One way would be to limit the selection criteria in such a way that the processed data is still representative but it finishes before the time out.
Even when a time out occurs, there should already be a trace file up to that point that you can evaluate. Depends on your processing logic, if it is one big outer loop it might be valid data, if you have several independent blocks, then you might be missing something important.
There is also the option "in parallel mode" where you can capture running BDC processes for analysis, maybe try this option as well. The trace file might grow pretty big though the longer your process runs, depending on aggregation level.

  • JMS time-out

Hi, could anyone tell me what exactly means time-out for JMS? Does JMS has time-out concept? If any, what does it time out, session or connection?
    Thanks

    Hi,
JMS Timeout has nothing to do with Session Timeout or connection timeout.Concept is same.
Application server waits till the message is delivered and within some time if it doen't get the response, it times out.
    I hope u understood this.
